Im looking forward to see new video of how to preserve or store the sphagnum moss after buying from Sybotanica 😊 like the one i got the 36L... I got instructions thru email but still im looking forward to see a video for me/us to fully be contented of what i/we understood 😅. Sample video will be great for us to see how exactly what we should do and follow. 💚
We haven't found sanitizing to be necessary, we mostly use unsanitized moss anyway, we do have some Sphaxx moss which is grown indoors and 99% clean, but actually cleaning the moss after use I don't think is needed.
Good question! For plants that can use the extra humidity around the roots like Orchid's it works great. I also see great success using it with carnivorous plants. However for other plants I found it's not ideal and holds onto too much water. However this also depends on your circumstances. If you are in a dry, hot area and you are having trouble keeping the plants moist it might be a good bet. In terrariums soil it's also a great add. I would recommend to start out with about 20% of the soil volume in sphagnum, and make sure to mix it up well (this is a bit more challenging due to the longer strands) and see if that solves your issue's! If still dry, you can always add more. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
@@sybotanica thanks a lot! I've just set up a mix with 20% sphagnum together with some coco coir, coco chips, coal, rice husk/charcoal and some manure (basically what's left in my stock) for my ZZ plant. Will update the result later.
@candoxang I never heard of using coal. I pinch a little coffee grounds into my indoor spider plants. When I second brew coffee for a weak blend for the kid to mix with milk for taste. It is good and free to add to plants. Just a bit at a time though.
Thank you for this great video. I could not find any info on how else to use this moss! I bought it for my Bonsai clipping because it speeds up the rooting process while preventing rot. Now I have so much left and plenty of things that I can use it for thanks to you!
thanks for the feedback Rupali! These can easily be turned off by clicking the "CC" at the bottom right for now. For next video's we will make sure to take care of that. Sybren
@@DomTL Hi Dom, great question! For the fittonia mix we recommend the Calathea & Maranta mix. For future reference check out this list: www.sybotanica.com/pages/sybasoil-guide Which will soon have AI picture recognition so you don't even need to know the plant name!
love the video! i mixed a bunch of this stuff into my ball pythons substrate, and around the plants and bark hides for isopods. Now i still have a bunch of moist dead spag moss.. will it go bad? Should i dry it out again and then just throw it in a bag? not sure if i have any more uses for it :/
Thanks Lucas! No it won't go bad at all, you can keep it slightly moist even, do make sure it gets some airflow and a little light (no direct sunlight) and it will stay perfect. If you do not want to keep it with airflow and light you can indeed dry it out and store it that way Sybren
I will make a video on it! Basic explanation for Sphagnum Moss: - Get a see-through container with some ventilation holes, use a small layer of soil or mineral substrate (not required) and make sure the moss is adequetely moist - Place in a indirect spot of light. - In a few weeks to months, depending on quality of the moss, humidity and amount of light you will have beautiful green moss
Sphagnum moss can be grown from spores, or even dried sphag moss! Do note the dead moss will not turn green again, but small strands of green sphagnum will start to grow slowly from the moss. Providing ideal conditions is key here, stable humidity, a bit of airflow and ample lightning all have to work in Harmony for the best result. I will see if we can start some cultures & make a video on that. Sybren

Yes good point I will try to record a shorter video on that. Stay tuned :)
When reusing sphagnum moss, what is the best method of sanitizing the moss?
