I've come back to this video multiple times just to listen to the Blind Faith jam. So good.
Damn Andy plays and demos pedals sooooooo awesome! I actually go back and watch these videos sometimes just to hear him jam!
Make no mistake this is one of the best pedals for the price and sound on the market.
Pair it with solid state or valve or just add another overdrive for sweet sugar. Versatile.
It's one of three pedals that kingfish uses...that'll do for me!
Literally why im here
@@donnellkennedy2492 #metoo LOL!
Exactly. His tone is amazing. I always say that about this pedal. I’ve been using it for a long time. I have a lot of expensive overdrives too because I like to collect and try different things but this pedal with a good amount of gain stacked or into an already overdriven dirty amp can get you some serious tones. I find it really stacks well with a TS, Jan Ray, Steel String or any Dumble style pedal. I was really surprised at how good it was. If you play a high gain amp and use those to tighten it up or add harmonics to your sounds, you’ll be a schooled at what this pedal can do.
That’s hilarious. I just saw that he used it so I wanted to check it out haha.
Kingfish made me interested in this also lol
amazing rendition of that blind faith song, this is one of my favourites ever. Amazing tone through that little stompbox!
I just come to hear that legendary intro speech, "Hey there it's Andy"
Man, the tracks you create for your reviews are just awesome. A true delight to listen to while learning some of the possibilities of the featured gear. Awesome!
Lovely setlist Andy! Blind Faith, Joe Walsh, brings back the days of my youth👴
Someone finally used "Had To Cry Today" for a pedal demo. Awesome.
Opening jam is absolutely awesome. Well done once again Andy!
Had To Cry Today Blind Faith - It is a great song.
A true musical talent, Andy makes EVERYTHING sound great
Believe the hype this is a great pedal on its own. But in chain with another overdrive it's just pure class through both solid state and valve. Best stomp I've bought in a long time.
Do you put it before or after the other overdrive?
@@auberginedreams00 I have it before the overdrive in the chain its great to dial in
What a lovely pedal. It's beautifully done. I must have this in my collection. Thank-U MXR:))
WOW! That thing really opens up! Dig the mini format!
You always cool, and surprising songs to review your pedals with. This one is no exception, very nice!
Your fav Guitar plugged directly into your fav amp. Sounds great but needs "something." Add a pedal to thicken the tone. Another to add treble. Get a eq to mold your tone, a buffer, some reverb and a little delay. Pick any of the 100s of overdrives including clean boost. 30 years later you are back to plugging directly into your amp again. Perfect.
Amazing tune, you nailed the tone as usual!
Man.... that tone is KILLER!
Killer demo, as usual, Andy. :-)
Clean boost sounds pretty sweet on this one!
Literally brought me to tears has been a tough couple of days and this song always makes me emotional
Take it easy fella.
....and I had to cry today...knowing I must now add yet another pedal to my board.
Andys at namm this year . Awesome.
Waiting for some company to finally bring out a "compressed and non-transparent" overdrive pedal. Its been too long a wait!!
Try a Boss Metal Zone!
@@binface9 garbage
@@stratcat7162 Is it not compressed and non-transparent?
strat cat71 its a klon copy
It's called fuzz...
Great video. I just got mine and love it!
In the city! One of my favorites. I'm buying that pedal!
Jeepers Andy...demo-ing a drive pedal with "Music for Gong Gong" by Osibisa!! That's some vast repertoire you've got under your belt man. You just keep giving :-)
I love it!!! How come I never heard of this pedal before? Sure, off course I know MXR, I'm not an idiot, but this little thing should be seen on many more pedal boards, imho.
Great licks at the end of the first solo!
This guy always has a good music
I like the way you did this review...
Who else heard Steve Winwood’s voice during the first song?
hey you are ian anderson from jethro tull u must know that!!!!!
Totally did!
and EC's tele with the strat neck
They didn’t have a tube screamer today when I was trying out the Origin 50 so I used this instead and OMG!... the tone was beyond any expectations I had. I tried it with both a Les Paul and a strat and I found myself not wanting to stop playing. It just brought the sparkle out of everything! When I finally make my decision on what amp to buy, this baby will definitely make it on that same recipe! OMG!!! I’m in love with this damn pedal! As a matter of fact, that little blue light will never be off!!!
Great comment when these days with so many pedals to choose from it can fry your brain trying to decide what's best for your rig
I prefer this pedal over a lot of boutique overdrives people swear are the best. I’ve A/B’d this pedal with the Jan Ray, Duellist, King of Tone, Blues Power, Tube Screamers, Morning Glory, Strymon Riverside, EQD Palisades and bunch of others and this one is my favorite every time. It’s like the best sounding TS-9 ever but it’s warmer and does low gain and high gain so well. It also doesn’t get out of control and adds a ton to your high gain amp sound. Kingfish uses it and listen to this overdrive tone through a Peavey combo. Doesn’t get much better when he plays.
Excellent playing bro...BLIND FAITH
Andy is a Legend for sure!!
Andy playing some classic Joe Walsh in there, too? Lol! Oh man, this guy is a rock library! Love it!
Woah buffer or true bypass option is awesome
Andy "Clapton" the Blind Faith was awesome!
Killer demo Andy
HELL YEAH! 37510 Overdrive/distortion pedal on the market!!! Finally!
That song from the Warriors soundtrack made my day!
Marc Pascual was that the 2nd song? The second song sounded so familiar but I couldn’t figure out what it was.
Called "In The City" by The Eagles, Joe Walsh on lead vocals
Nice chops!
Great jam to open up with
They must have had fun writing this script! I want to get one - because Andy.
Idk if it’s the pedal I want or your complete skill set lol. Really helpful though! Thank you!
Just played it today. I really liked it, kinda torn about my mini tube screamer. The sugar still sounds clean when you push the drive all the way up, unlike the TS. But do I really need this when I already have the MXR Badass distortion pedal with EQ??? Someone say yes...
The Warriors !!!!!!
Sweet Baby Jesus that sounds good!
Alex Breyer Joyo Sweet Baby also sounds good
Had to cry today by Blind Faith.
Sounds like a Tweed amp pedal on low gain. Would like to know amp used, it probably sounds way different on different amps.
Sounds good
I'd love to know what pickups are in the Les Paul. They sound great. Many thanks for the demo.
As soon as I heard had to cry today I was sold
You're a good player, thanks for demo-ing! It'd also be useful to mention what kind of amp you're using, settings, and guitar settings too, since all those factors influence the final sound. Thanks again.
Just bought this pedal. I tried out the Tumnus and MXR Timmy as well. This one sounded best for my needs (sweet chord crunch and lead richness). The Timmy has more flexibility, but was more fizzy in the crunch. The Tumnus didn't sound as good me on rhythm, but sounded simply fabulous on lead. Would love to have both the Tumnus and the Sugar Drive running into each other.
With humbuckers or single coils?
@@lovecraftmusic8717 I play single coils, mostly a telecaster, but also a strat. I don't like the gain all the way up. But to add bite and crunch, it is great.
I did get the Tumnus as well and run the Sugar Drive into the Tumnus. They are different and play nicely together. The Tumnus sounds better than the Sugar Drive with the gain past midnight.
I know it's mentioned in another Reverb video but what glorious pickups do you have in that Les Paul? AWESOME
Transparent...I think the word has run its course with overdrive pedals.
Two years later - still a popular term among marketing teams.
Andy hit it out the park ⚾
Algún día podrían sorprender con colores nuevos...
Hey, with the popularity of mini pedals and MXR releasing so many of their own, where's their mini Dist.+?
Heck to the yeah. That one is such a simple circuit that a mini pedal would seem to be a no-brainer.
Goddamn I want one!
It's because they are using new surface mount components like resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc. that are tiny and do not need to be soldered. Mini pedals are attractive to players because they take less space on the pedalboard, and have the same or nearly the same functions and tone.
I know a lot of people think that we should be sugar-free, but this sounds better than wampler's version
What is wampler version?
@@ResaAdilaksana tumnus
I ordered an MXR Sugar Drive and tried it through a PRRI, it didn't produce any gain; my Fender Amp didn't have its own bendable gain dial. Later I got a Vox AC 10. Through the Vox I would be able use the gain dial from the control panel built onto the amp to blend into the gain inside the MXR Sugar Drive. I may try the Sugar Drive again. Relegated to the Fender clean channel amp situation, I immediately returned the MXR Sugar Drive at that time and bought a Wampler mini Tumnus. The gain using the Tumnus was audible through the clean channel Fender Amp. If anyone has a clean channel amp, The Wampler Tumnus would be the mini Klon pedal to get, unless you're okay with the feedback/hum when engaging the footswitch on a cheap pedal like a Mosky, Caline or the budget Amazon klones
To retort to the "Not another Klone dudes"
Its simply not just a copy. IMO its an improvement on the original. Buffer/True Byspass switch, smaller enclosure, and yeah nuetral EQ more transparent and organic vs the focused lower upper mid Klones like the Archer, Tumnus that are practically straight up tone copies of the originals. Never mind the Soul Food that just sounds too compressed and muddy, nothing like a Klon.
Sugar Drive= Klon 2.0. More Transparent/Organic Neutral EQ
Tummnus/Archer=Klone 1.0 Original focused lower upper mids
My full review for those interested. www.strat-talk.com/threads/new-pedal-day-new-mxr-content-check-it.472515/
Good points. And I agree about the soul food. That pedal sucks ass but everyone loves it. Probably because it's all they know
Lol check out the soul food jhs mod
I really like your review and agree with your opinions. Kingfish uses this pedal so that’s says an awful lot to me as he is one of the best blues players in the world today and maybe the best young blues player since Derek Trucks
"Somewhere out on that horizon..."
I’ve never been a big Klon guy, but this is quite nice.
Just buy it; its awesome.
Man i so enjoy the intro that i forgot about the pedal
BLIND FAITH !
Is this still apart of the left-handed series? It sounds good.
I gotta get $119.99 outta my change jar, so I can get that thang! Reckon I gotta wait 'til sometime next month.
I just tried this pedal out side by side with the OCD. I think the OCD has more crunch but this one definitely has more mids and punches through when doing a solo and also I noticed with both of the tone knob turned up that this sugar Drive makes the OCD sound muffled a lot but I always hear very great things about the OCD and that's why I got it but after playing on the sugar Drive I think that I like this one better but then to each there own. This also sounds great with my mini ts9 pedal
Andy, will you use DR built in speaker and SM57 mic please?
I do not get it. How are some demos not allowed to play songs due to publishing rights, yet Andy is allowed to play any song note for note? Please educate me.
Blind Faith for the win
Another Klone is never a bad thing. Is anything really bad if it sounds good?
Trade mark first song cover. We love it.
The feelings like living outside of the law.
Rockin the Doyle PAF Pickups?
So is Dunlop just releasing their Saucy Box in a small form factor?
Jorge Tripps put the Way Huge Saucy Box HC or maybe original into a mini MXR enclosure. Thoughts anyone?

It's about time someone made a Klon knock-off for a $119 ;) Nice job MXR :)
Brian Anderson soul food by ehx is in this ballpark too. And preferable, I’d say.
Blind Faith!
This is what we fought all night to get back to?
In tha citttttyyyyyyyy
We're driving down down in an earlier round, and sugar we're driving down swinging
Hell yea Andy blind faith!!!
nice
What's the name of the first song? It sounds awesome!
Facundo Rodriguez good lord, trying to remember it too, I believe it's Allman Brothers
Had to cry today by Blind Faith
Thanks haven't heard it in years
Matias Manni Thank youu
Had to cry Today blind faith
need a dual sugar drive
Anyone know where the riff at 0:52 came from?
Is this a Klone? And what song is being played at the 5:00 mark????
Matthew Pike the song is In the City by the Eagles
used in the warriors movie.
And yes, it is.
Aaron Flexer *Joe Walsh!!!! The Eagles may have performed the song later on but he recorded it.
I don't know what pedal the Sugar Drive is trying to emulate.
metal zone obviously
Klon
A blue tumnus appeared!
Gummmibaer Andy used "yet another tube screamer clone"...it is not very effective...
@@samuel3040 wrong pedal, but I get the point lol
I might have to put some blind faith into this pedal
What is the first song called?
Another Klone? Well, I´m still buying it. :)
Andy can literally play a stick with a string and it would sound amazing
At least it’s Not Super Baddazz.
Is this similar to timmy ovd?
Looks cool, sounds nice, feels responsive -
Yes! Oh hell yes!
