- Once you have the basics of 3D modeling down, it's time to learn the real power of 3ds Max! In this beginner-friendly tutorial, we start with very basic animation techniques like animating moving objects, and progress into more advanced operations like animating modifiers, physics and cloth simulations, and using path and position constraints. This crash-course is meant to blast your way through the learning curve, so you can start creating your own animations in no time! You'll be surprised how easy animating with 3ds Max really is!
After this crash course, you'll have the foundation you'll need to animate just about anything. In future tutorials, we will go in-depth on character animation, using motion-capture files, and more procedural workflows for really advanced animations! But first.. the basics!
If you haven't done so, check out the "3ds Max Beginner Crash Course" video here:

Thanks for watching!!!
hello, i'm trying to learn animation on 3dsmax and ive noticed there is a lack in youtube for these kind of video. I just want to thank you for taking the time to create these videos as they are extremely helpful. I hope you continue doing them!
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video to be helpful!
Thank you Kyle! There is not enough this quality tutorials online regarding 3ds, so I thank you again for publishing this!
Probably the best animation tutorial for beginners in 3ds max I have ever seen!! Thank you very much and keep going! Already subscribed, of course:)
Thanks, I'm glad you found it to be helpful!!
Thanks Jerry, keep these 3ds max tutorials coming please. 🙌🏽
when I looking for max animation, I see your video today, OMG! thx!
You’re welcome! Have fun animating!!
I keep running into your tuts.
Great stuff.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much.
Thanks!! I'm glad you like them!
I just hit Like & Subscribed bro even when I watched your video for the first time. It's so much helpful for the community.
Awesome! Thanks man!!
Just started using this today. Cheers for the video!!!!!!! Will be watching more of your material !!
Awesome, great set of explanations for anyone looking to understand the basics. Amazing job! Will you be continuing the series gradually with more and more advanced lessons?
Thanks!! I could definitely dive deeper into character animation, and other more advanced topics. Let me know if you have any suggestions for stuff you’d like to learn!
@@simulation_lab Character animation sounds great! Camera-related nuances would also be appreciated - like, slowmo or sped up shots, dynamic movement like in car commercials rotating around an object or zooming in/out, natural camera shake as if filming by hand.. Just an idea!
@@simulation_lab I would love to see more advanced topics, spesificly an indepth tutorial on how to animate rigged characters/ Thank you!
Awesome video, please create a video on product animation and how to add motion blur in animation
Very well explained! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of 3D MAX. Best
Oh wow. This is really great! Thanks a lot for this video!. Best Regards
I'm glad you found it to be helpful!!🙂
very nice dear great tutorial
Thank you bro! Great tutorial.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks man ! This was really needed . ✨
Hey ,thanks for this much information and smooth learning.can you please share that how we renders with that animation and how we can save them
First, thank you for the 3ds Max tutorials. They are immensely informative and helpful. I specifically like the fact that you explain the what and how of the technique.
Assuming I had 4096 x 4096 texture map, where the 1024 x 1024 square would represent a slide in a presentation. How would one setup the animation to display slides 1 through 16 in a controlled manner (e.g., slide pause, slide pause, etc) without using a video map. I assume animating the uv map might work. Wouldn’t mind seeing a tutorial on the approach.
Hey sorry I'm a bit late on this comment. If the presentation slides are just static images, I would put them all together into one long image using Illustrator, photoshop, etc, and animate a UVW map modifier to switch between the slide images. That sounds like the easiest approach.
amazing tut thanks!
now I want to know how to get an animation rendered!
Thanks for your categorizing!
How to make a spline track animation like lines transfer location in maps
Thanks man :)
Is it possible to animate pulleys connected by a belt in 3Ds max? maybe also simulate if the belt was carry some weight while moving on the pulleys?
I m faceing troubles to reach after motion - path parameters, now every object is not moving in new file, its starting creation only @ centre and not moving Any were.. i m confused... Kindly pls healp me...!!🙏
I just wish Max had SOMETHING like Mograph in C4D.
how to export the object (fbx format) with melt and FFD animations
Love your content ❤️😍
Thanks!!
I grew up on 3dsmax but somehow I found cinema4d nice but sometimes it's annoying that c4d can't hande big scenes or can be clunky. I would love to go work with 3dsmax but as I see the UI, it's scaring me dude.
All 3D software are a bit clunky in their own ways, lol. Once you get over the learning curve with the Max UI, I think it's pretty intuitive and straight-forward. I'd suggest to poke around with Max for a while, make some stuff with it, and see if you like it!
@@simulation_lab But I don't like it. 😩 The UI is terrible. How people can work with that? Material stuck is absolutelly horrible. 😭😭
Amazing
Im having issues with the cloth modifier and it goes through my sphere a little showing the sphere through the cloth. how can i fix that?
You can try increasing the resolution of your cloth object by adding more subdivisions. If you're looking to do really realistic cloth simulations, I'd suggest the TyFlow plugin, which I have some tutorials on. It has a much more advanced cloth solver.
thank you so much. I'm just starting to get into tyflow and learn it. Been kinda putting it off since it just seems like a LOT to wrap my head around. Slowly reading over the tyflow documents on what each thing does. But yeah, Im going fully realistic on my files. Got a new job ill be starting soon that involves cloth for some of their objects so id like to get that down here soon@@simulation_lab
3ds simple animation has always been a HORROW show! Absolutely frustrating to work with even the simplest animations. And I'm a huge 3ds fan.
Example: Try making a chess play, where 4 pieces moves in turns. TRY DEFAULT ANIMATION TO MAKE THEM MOVE DELAYED FROM EACH OTHER!!!! IMPOSSIBLE!
Move 1: White Pawn moves one square at frame 1 to 10.
Move 2: Black pawn moves one square at frame 10 to 20.
Move 3: White pawn moves two squaresd at frame 20 to 30.
Move 4: Black queen moves diagonally at frame 30 to 40.
TRY TO DEFAULT THIS SO The four pieces don't all start in frame 1 and all ends at 10-20-30-40. TOTALLY AND UTTERLY STUPID AND INCOHERENT.
I hope scripting can help me out bc this is TOTALLY frustrating to work with!!!! Unlike many many other animation tools that are actually working as expected!!!
How do I attach a video or link to show you? Does this work: drive.google.com/file/d/1RkSM9uZTbnO7f5xaHJpHPmm8_lqm56Hq/view?usp=sharing
So, the two pawns move forward correctly. But then the start going BACKWARDS??? What kind of nonsense is that? I haven't ANYWHERE specified that they are supposed to go back.
I have totally given up on using anything else but scripting. And for the life of me: Why in the land before time are they moving backwards??????
Great tutorial! Learning Max on and off at the minute and finding your content very useful!
Thanks great to hear!

I made a marble run and domino run out of your tutorial and your tutorial is amazing
Thank you, very helpful tutorial,
Please don't stop sharing tutorials like this
You are a goood man,,,,,,Dear vro....
👋👋
Thx, man! Great lesson!
I really like how you teach man. your voice and attitude is brilliant. thank you.
That's so awesome to hear man! Really brightened my day! 🙂
Thank you so much , animation has always been a daunting task for me. But you explained it in a very clear and easy-to-understanding way
Thanks for great tutorial. But I notice that in your video didn't show how to make the blue curled carpet (rectangle) which shown in the end of this video. And I kind of need to do something like that now. Can you explain to me how to make it? Thanks in advance!
I think the curled carpet animation is included in the example file in the description, but it's very simple to make. Just create a plane surface, and add a bunch of segments to it, and add a bend modifier. You can control how many rolls the bend modifier makes on the plane, and you can rotate it slightly, so that it doesn't intersect with itself. After some playing around with it, you should be able to get it to work!
@@simulation_lab oh, I watched video on smartphone so I didn't notice there is a file in desribsion. Thank you a lot! I will try
Nice tutorial, tkssss from Brasil !
You are awesome 😎😎😎😎😎😎 you help me alot
Thanks so much! I'm glad the video was helpful!
Love you brother for this course, even though I'm using max for 8 years.. this is still helpful for me!
That's great to hear!
hello guys someone knows why my curve editor is empty ?
thanks
Great job 👏
can you please make a complete series of animation tutorial videos from rigging a character to a final animation loop in 3ds max?
Thanks.
3DMax is DEAD ....to many LAG and Crashes inside the engine
Max is actually quite stable, for me at least. It hardly ever crashes, unless I do something to make it crash. If you're experiencing a lot of crashes, it could be that you're maxing out your RAM or you need to update your graphics drivers or something.
thank you bro its really helpfull
You’re welcome, glad you found it helpful!
@simulationlab Hey, I have a quick question about an old project, I used an audio float controller to control part of a tyflow instance,
I needed to edit or "bake" the audio float into the curve editor so I can adjust the points... Is there a way to do this?
Watching you use the waveform as a float reminded me, say for instance the waveform you used, instead of it just running continuously, can you "print or bake" the waveform to the curve editor for a given number of frames only, and then manipulate the points on the editor itself.
I searched online previously when I was trying to edit the audio controller I had but couldn't find anything.
sorry in advance, maybe outside of the video. I want to ask why my material editor can't be pressed/clicked and nothing appears. usually a box will appear and ⚪⚫⚪🔴 like this right?
how to fix this?
because I am a beginner, I have only been guided by my lecturer for 4 days.
Thanks ❤️
Do you know if I could import parts that I have built in Autocad into 3ds? Basically, I have a lot of parts (equipment) I use on projects. It would be awesome if I could import them in and then manipulate and animate them as you have shown here. Awesome content!!!
Need help, for example let’s say I’m moving a block, and then A few seconds later I add another block that wants to join in? And then a third one comes in and vice versa. How do I make it into one animation
Are the blocks overlapping, so it looks like the animation starts with one block, then you see duplicate blocks coming out of the first block? If so, you can just duplicate the blocks on top of each other, and animate them all together, and at some point, you can deviate the animation of subsequent blocks to make them appear from the original block. You can also animate the scale/visibility of the blocks too to make it look nice and clean. If you mean that a single block is moving, then a second block just joins the scene, you can position the 2nd block outside the view of the camera, and animate it sliding in when you want. Hope that helps!
YOO BRO, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! GOD BLESS YOU!
You're very welcome dude!
this video is rich and thorough, thank you!
