Jeff Wallace I’m thinking of getting this gun for my first gun the person buying for me thinks a 308 will be a good choice for me cause how much Ive shot there guns and how I manage recoil and I will be hunting is this a good gun
These are awesome. Picked up a 30/06 for 295 bucks new in the box and put a 3x9 bushnell trophy on it and took it to the range after loading up a bunch of different handload combos in 150 gr hornandy interlocks. That rifle outshot some of my much more expensive guns with sub MOA at 100 yards. The trigger is superb at 2.89 lbs with absolutely no creep.Im getting one soon in 7mm mag. Very underrated and great budget rifle for those looking for a good solid workhorse which wont let them down.
The sling studs on 783 remington 308win are tough. I'm a big guy and I've carried my rifle on sling. I've replaced two sling rings and the studs on my rifle weren't damaged at all. I love my rifle. Remington 783 is a good rifle I guarantee. Good video sir. Very explanatory.
I have two 783's with 16.5 " Heavy Threaded Barrels, in .308 & .223 they both shoot sub MOA groups out of the box, I upgraded the stock to the Boyds AT-ONE and they both are keepers.
I have this in 30.06 and love it. Its a tack driver and I bought mine way cheaper than retail. The plastic swivel eyes are cheap but hey the stock is fully bedded and the barrell is thick and of high quality. Go to the remington website and check out the barrel and how they make it so accurate. I was going to buy a surplus mosin nagant but let me tell you..this remington will run rings around a surplus mosin. Im using a Tasco world class 4-16x on it and its holding up fine. Dont waste your money on a higher dollar rifle..this rifle WILL do the job on the cheap. I just wish it had iron sights...but then again its a longer range rifle.
The cost of spare mag's, and the fact they're metal for this one, made it the winner for me. I've gone back and forth between this, the Axis and the American; with the cost of the latter two, and the fact the Ruger is polymer, it kicked them to the curb. Which is sad. I really liked that heavy barrel Axis.
he's right about the sling mounts. I broke my front one with a bipod after a few rounds. Otherwise I absolutely love my 783. Fits everything I'll need it to do
Did you just make a new hole in the stock and screw in a sling stud? If not how did you fix it? I don't own this rifle but want to know how to fix it if this happens to happen. Thanks :)
Matt Jones: I ended up removing the barrel from the body, drilling two holes beneath the sling mount and bolting on a picatinny rail underneath. Bought a rail-to-bipod adapter (relatively inexpensive) and went that route. Looks a little cheap and cheesey, but with a pivoting bipod it works great.
Bought the 783, 1 year ago, in the 30-06 caliber. GREAT GUN! I’ve put exactly 68 rounds through it, with ZERO issues. Yes, the safety is loud. Yes, the sling studs are cheap, and may eventually break. But for the price, it’s got a great trigger, smooth bolt, free floating barrel, and groups extremely well. The scope that came on it was broken right out of the box. But I was gonna replace it anyway. Ended up choosing a vortex crossfire II, in 3x9x40. Favorite bolt action I have. Highly recommend picking one up. Also, best magazine of all the budget rifles in the same price range.
I bought one right before deer season from Gander mountain with a huge rebate. $215 with taxes it was a 300 win mag for that price so no way I was going to pass it up. it came with a lityle no name scope so I put on a really nice 50mm high power scope and I love the thing. Good long range rifle that is pretty accurate. As accurate as my model 700 but does not have all the aftermarket options....the only down side.
bought one for $300 at Academy. ditched the scope that came with it and put a Nikon Buckmaster 2 BDC scope on it. It's a Tack driver. Sling mounts aren't the greatest but for $450 including decent glass. This rifle gets the job done quite nicely.
Nice video review. I'm looking at getting one of these chambered in the 270 caliber. Also considering the Savage Axis and Ruger American. Right now I'm leaning towards the 783 for many of the same reasons you mentioned in your video. Looking forward to more reviews of the 783.
I put my 783 (308) in an MDT( LSS) chassis wich actually cost more than the rifle itself. The MDT chasis takes AIC mags. As far as the bolt sticking, mine loosen up after 120 rounds fired. I suggest not using 180 grain rounds unless you don't mine a sore shoulder. It kicks like an angry mule...ouch
Just a thought on the sling studs... I have a 770 with the same sling studs they do break if you use a tripod on the front and are really weak.. I took a grinder and sand paper to mine and replaced with metal sling studs problem fixed...
The plastic sling studs on the 770 are exactly like that & are common to rip off when using a bipod or sometimes even a sling. Other than that it looks like a step up from 770 excluding the 90° throw.
Back home in St. Louis at the Bass Pro, they have them listed for 280.00$ w/ a 3-9x40 scope mounted & boresighted. The reg. price on them is 330.00$. The way the article was written up didn't give the gauge of it, so I had to look it up here. DUH!
Looks mostly pretty good, though for a hunting rifle I kinda prefer a built in box magazine rather than detachable (a detachable magazine runs the risk of getting lost).
Carry two. Seriously, this mag has a pretty nice latch (v-notch) and it fits flush so snags won't pull it out and the release is far enough forward you won't catch it by accident. Don't know how strong the latch spring is though but it feels adequate.
I own a 783 and my studs haven't caused me any troubles. Not saying they won't but I have a Harris 6-9" bipod on it. I was looking at the Boyd's stock for it too but the Boyd stock isn't pillar bedded which is drawing me away from it a bit.
Nice video. I am considering buying one next year. A definte bonus is this year they introduced the 783 in a walnut stock. I will definitely look for that.
My new 783 fails the fire the first round.. Soft Strike, but then fires the next 2 fine. It happens every time ! 3 round mag, first round soft strike fail to fire, the next 2 fire fine.. What gives?
The Model 873 is an excellent rifle and it is not only high quality Remington built, but is budget price too. On the Cabelas catalog they were listed at $299 with all of the popular chamberings including .270, .30-06 and .308 as well as a factory 3-9x scope included with the package. In today's world of ultra tactical and ultra steroid-pumped $2000 competition bolt actions, there are some folks who just want a decent and accurate big game rifle for hunting and defense and the Remington 873 fits that niche perfectly. Honestly, most of the other hunting rifles in the catalog were priced $2000 and up, and I bet the 873 would do the same thing with a bullet out to 600 yards that the other ones would do.
Yup. In the woods the 783 will do anything the 2 and 3 grand rifles will do and at the end of the day the black synthetic stock wont have a scratch from prickly pear or brush it scraped against as you drug that nice buck out the 783 put down on the spot.
At 7 1/2 pounds w/scope (in .223) and the soft buttstock you'll have trouble beating the pig to death if you miss but it seems to have few jams or misfires. I'm told there are some problems with Winchester ammo though.
This gun shoots great ,very little kick for such a high caliber and right on the money the stock is a bit ugly though so I'm getting a Boyd's replacement wood
I've got a .308 version and the action was kinda rough but after 24 rounds and a good cleaning/oiling its now very smooth, can't wait to put many more rounds through it. I adjusted the trigger down to 2.5lbs after the first 4 rounds and liked it even more!
Could you be able to put a model 700 picatiny rail on top, and then the rings plus scope, since their scope receiver bases are similar according to Remington website
They're both great options. Remington has fixed some of the early QC problems that I saw with the 783, and Savage's new magazine they've developed for the Axis is much better than the one before.
It is modified version of the xl7. Overall a great value gun. The two biggest dings in my experience are the sling studs and box magazine. It will do what you want it to once dialed in . I would spend my money on the Marlin xl7 first it is way better quality for the price. I bought the xl7 270 and love it. When I decided to get another rifle in 30-06. I was lying to myself at the shops checking out other guns like I wasn't going to get another xl7. it is an unbeatable value and unmatched performance. I love Remington and one day I will have the legendary Remington 700. It is sad that the 770 was so horrible they had to use Marlins designs to make a hybrid version now known as the 783. At first I was disappointed when I heard Marlin was now owned by Remington. But look forward to their new options like the 783 rifle. The barrel stock and half the bolt are Remington. On the783. The rest is exactly like the x series from Marlin. Why change a good thing. Overall I think it is a good deal. Thanks for a good video.
Remington and Marlin both have the same parent company. Freedom Group owns them both along with other firearms manufacturers. Freedom Group screws up every company that they get involved with... Examples such as Remington and Bushmaster so far
from my perspective, an excellent action, great trigger that adjusted down for me to near 2lbs, waaaaay better in the heavier 24" barrel (i have it in 6.5 creedmoor), typical tupperware junker stock (never even used it, replaced with a boyd's at-1). with a 6-24x50 scope on a 20moa base and an MBM beast brake it delivers hornady 140 grain eld-m's in about 5" groups at 700 yards.
So if the bolt is out it can fall out if it gets hit. The Savage axis I think 🤔 is better.. Just put in the seel servals on it like my Rem.770 works perfect for me and my kid's the plastic one's brake off 📴. Owner scoop's sucks on the 770 one inch relief on the scoop.
My wife purchases me a Remington 783 in the 308 for 249 dollars. Early Christmas present.. Dunhams Sporting Goods is a great place.. They have sales on every sunday and monday.
I also found that with my savage axis, but I did just install a spring in the axis trigger that takes it from an 8 pound pull to a 5-6 pound pull. Yet to try it out though
I have a question. When someone says "budget rifle", or says this rifle isn't near the rifle a Saiko or Ruger rifle is, what are they saying? I thought if you can load a round into the chamber, aim and fire and the round hits you target consistently, that is a good rifle. I guess people with a lot of money have different views of a good rifle.
+Brett Stroman Cheaper materials, more hastily finished, less fully featured, fewer QC steps. Don't get me wrong, I think these budget rifles are incredibly good these days and as a hunting rifle, you'd want for very little more but you can't put a Remington 783 next to a Sako 85 and have any doubt which one is the budget rifle of the two.
my from along stud broke at the range after about 50 rounds. I had harris bipod legs attached and it just snapped. gonna get a Boyds on it before I even fire it again. take warning I would immediately upgrade stocks or look at other firearms. its was a realiable accurate shooter and that is my only complaint
But that trigger guard ? Why did they make it so ugly? And how much did they save with those cheapo sling attachments? Remington, go into the tool for the stock and re do the trigger guard. I was looking at one in a gun shop and that thing had me handing it back to the clerk real quick. Make it rounded like a real rifle. When the gun shortage is over these or deeply discounted.
A gun shop let me hold a .270 the other day to check it out. Does the 783 seem a little more barrel heavy compared to a Ruger American, Savage, etc because it did to me? I just seen at my local Wal-Mart where they got black synthetic Remington 700's priced at $389 and that's with a scope (and I bet money its the same scope as on 783's). They didn't even have a 783 on display. I may just buy a 700 for that price.
Yes, the 783's use a slightly heavier weight barrel than most of the other budget hunting rifles. I really like the barrel weight. $389 seems far too low of a price for a Remington 700, so make sure it's not the inferior 770.
I find the extra weight makes a little more difficult to keep stable but everything else about it seems worth the money. I like the beefier stock and butt pad too. I double checked at a different Wal-Mart tonight and the only thing I was wrong about telling you was the price. They have true Remington black synthetic 700's w/ scope for $379. I almost can't believe it either. I would tell you to google it but apparently it doesn't list gun prices nor does Wal-Mart on their website. Why is that?
Looks "based" on the Marlin XL7 but I wouldn't say it's "upgraded". The XL 7 had screw in sling studs and was top-loading. I can't stand the tiny little ejection ports on most of these magazine fed rifles. To me a bolt action should be relatively open in that area. Still a lot better budget option than the Remington 710 or 770 though.
How much cheaper? The 783 has a better trigger and a slightly nicer magazine than an Axis, but it needs to be a quality one. Check bolt turn-in when you buy.
I bought one and will be using it for target shooting all summer, ill get back to you all with a round count and barrel inspection after that. But i have alot of faith in this rifle especially after i fixed the mag feeding issue last night lol.
@@bspence5151 Exactly. Ive owned my 700 bdl 7mm mag for 29 years and doubt ive put more than 400 through it. Its just used for hunting .3 shots to check its zero and 1 into the deer.
Truly the Boyd stocks its not pillar bedded and keep in mind that the wood wont work so well in the forest (scratches) and after a rain or abrupt changes of humidity and temp(seasons) in a long time will get spongy and touch the barrel..
Laminate will resist better than a standard walnut stock, but I agree; nothing beats the utility of a synthetic stock. The laminate just looks so much better.
+darkspectro100 You can pillar bed yourself for about $10 and about an hour worth of easy elbow grease. And the laminate is the best of both worlds. It has durability fairly close to the synthetic, but is far more rigid with the previously mentioned pillar bedding which aids in pinpoint repeatable accuracy. Cheap injection stocks are so flimsy that they flex at the fore end when using things like a bipod, and flex at the wrist under any type of moderate recoil reducing accuracy. If someone is just going to be hunting out to 300 yards or so, the factory synthetic is fine. If they want to build a dual purpose hunting/target gun, a stock upgrade is almost a must.
I really want a .308 bolt action for my collection and I really like Remington in general. Are these good for the $350 tag? I don't hunt and I usually target shoot with a .223 AR. Just wanting something scoped and bolt to change it up.
I got one at Cabelas in south Edmonton. Its got an aftermarket Nikon buckmaster scope and Talley 4 screw rings. The trigger guard broke the first time I fired it. Not sure how it broke on a stand? The scope wouldn't keep a zero, and found that the gun expert either cross threaded or over tightened the ring screws. Called Cabelas and was told there is no warranty because it was purchased on sale. The so called free floating barrel is tight all the way back to the lead pillar as well. Kinda feel a bit ripped off with the 783 and after looking at the new 700's I think Remington's quality is definitely in question. Not impressed at all!
It's a cheap gun, I've never seen a broken trigger guard break, Remington will fix for free, as for the gun you can free float the yourself in less than 1 hour, 783 with the barrel floated will shoot accurately out to 200yds
Question. If you put your clip in, empty or loaded, and put your hand underneath the clip on the bottom of the gun, and apply very light upward pressure, and then try close your bolt, does it bind against the back lip of the clip? Wondering if this is normal, cause mine seems to be doing this. I know it really doesn't matter, but I'm sure if the gun was resting on something that the clip pushes up on, it would prob never work. Just wondering if they all do this. Great vid! Just bought a new 783 in a 7mm mag chamber. Looking forward to trying it soon.
Blake Levarno if you can pick it up and try it, the 783. Some of the ones I tried had a hard bolt turn in and varying quality. Technically, it's got more than the Axis, but the Axis is a better standard rifle.
Great review on the 783 Remington 30-06 I just bought this exact rifle I also dislike the sling studs but I am trying to put a bipod I noticed on your video before you click on it that you have a nice bipod set up. How do you mount the bipod do they make one that connects to the sling studs or do you have to mount a rail?
Mr.hunting gear guy have you ever considered doing a review of the Tikka T3 vs Ruger American? Or Prehaps R 783 vs 770 since they're about the same price range. Anyways keep up the great work man!
Stock was about the same as any of the other tupperware stocks that are on the value priced rifles except it uses plastic sling attach points instead of metal sling studs: not fantastic in my opinion. The buttpad was nice and squishy. The barrel itself is a heavier weight profile than most other rifles at this price point.
It's the cheapest way you'll ever own a 7 mm mag that's for sure . The 783 series and with the help of. A sales offer made it possible to have a 750 dollar gun at a price any hunter can afford
The cheapest Remington ever I had many problems with this when the one store sent me one and the barrel heats up fast and the bolt in so cheaply made rattles and is too loose go with a rem bdl or adl
Ben It's not a high end quality like the 700 but remember the 700 is also responsible for more accidental deaths than any other rifle by going off without warning . Yes it's a little cheaper made but it shoots accurate and functions fine , it does what you need it to do and the price is half what it would be . A little slop in the action won't hurt a thing . It's a 100 yard hunting gun nobody claims it's the best out there
e2sguy you right about that... the 700 is the rifle who killed the most amount of ppls by accident because of there triggers.... at least the 783 have a way better trigger... i have a legend ultra hd scope on mine with a boyds stock varmint thumbhole and a bipod in .308 win... beleive me ... its a great rifle... im probably gonna get a second one in 300 wm
The 783 can compete with bolt guns 3 times its price, that heavy barrell and fat bolt makes all the dfference. Just keep metal surfaces clean and lightly oiled and your good.
Yup. At the range the weatherby and kimber boys couldnt believe my 783 was putting their 3 grand babys to shame. One guy offered to buy it at twice the price I paid. Just walked off with a smile knowing I made a good buy.
Jacob Roy lol ya I don't think they make extended mags for these.....too bad i would get a 100round drum mag for my 7mm mag....I wouldn't have to reload for 2 years.
That bolt release is just like a a Marlin xL7. And the sling studs suck, it's just like the Remington 770 and I had a bipod on a 770 and it broke the stud from the recoil.
Just recently bought my remington 783 30.06. Got it home and took the bolt out. Looked through where the barrel meets the action and I could see the threading like the barrel didn't get screwed back far enough, is it suppose to be like that? First time rifle owner. Thanks for sharing your review.
+Kou Lor the 783 uses a barrel nut to secure the barrel to the receiver as oppose to traditional thread extensions you would find on a 700 for example. the barrel is threaded into the receiver until it is properly head spaced, then the barrel nut is torqued on to secure it. the extra treads are supposed to be there. using the barrel nut is a much cheaper and easier to manufacture than traditional methods. it can be agued that the barrel nut style also offers improved accuracy
Caution note for anyone purchasing the Remington 783! I just received mine in 243, it was manufactured by Remington Outdoors with a major defect rendering the rifle useless unless you would like to use it as a single shot. The receiver wasn't machined correctly and if you can get to install the rounds are not high enough to allow the bolt to strip them off. I own the same rifle in 223 and 270 that function beautifully. Beware of purchasing one that was made by the Outdoors (Old company)(of which you will not have any idea it was), they will not honor the brand name and you'll be stuck with a non functioning rifle. The only support you'll get is a list of repair shops and the cost is solely on you!!!!!!! Just remember CEO Ken cares more about the bottom line than loyal Remington customers. I'll go for either Ruger or Savage. BTW Ruger has a spectacular customer service dept.
That's what I bought mine for. Used to plink in 22 LR, got tired of the LR high prices and scarcity. Buy my .223 as quality reloads, recoil is minor, can drag this iron around all day and not notice it. Check out your well connected and customer oriented LGS for bargains they can ship in. These can be had for a little over $300.
I hear the 783 works really well and is very accurate out of he box . I wish everyone a Great Hunting Season this year .
I own 2 783 remingtons in 30-06 & 308 win and I plan on getting one in 300 win mag these rifles are underated
+Jeff Wallace hows the stock scope on them throw them away?
i just bought one but 243. cal though
they come with weaver bases get some decent rings and a bushnell banner scope and your set
Jeff Wallace I’m thinking of getting this gun for my first gun the person buying for me thinks a 308 will be a good choice for me cause how much Ive shot there guns and how I manage recoil and I will be hunting is this a good gun

Your rings outlasted the molded in plastic studs?
The Hunting Gear Guy let me reverse that. The molded in plastic studs are tough. Thanks for correcting me I was kinda buzzing.
I have two 783's with 16.5 " Heavy Threaded Barrels, in .308 & .223 they both shoot sub MOA groups out of the box, I upgraded the stock to the Boyds AT-ONE and they both are keepers.

We really are spoiled these days with these inexpensive bolt action rifles. So cheap and accurate.
I bought one in .308 shot it twice out the box without cleaning put around 120 rounds through it no problems fairly accurate as well

I got one in .270 a few years ago for $220.00 without a Scope. Great video
Joel Towle my son bought one a couple years back in.270 and that thing shoots lights out!! Federal Fusion 150gr half inch groups almost all the time!
@@KeystoneTexan very nice!
I've put a couple drops of oil on my safety and it has made it much quieter...not too concerned about the noise anymore.

The only thing that seemed like a flaw was the plastic sling stud, but I found a nice walnut stock with metals studs. That might be perfect..
I bought one in 308 and have taken many deer with it. Bought it when it first came out, and still works great.
Great review. I did not hear you mention that the barrels are magnum contoured and are free-floated

Big time step up from the 770 on the action/bolt/trigger, but yeah. . .those plastic sling studs are soooo cheesy.
I own a Remington 783 7 mm it’s a great rifle I love it it’s awesome to shoot It’s a great heart and rifle are use it all the time to go Hunting

Just bought one yesterday at Gander for 180 out the door including the mail in rebate that i should get in a few weeks.
Wow and I thought the 295 I paid was a steal.
thinking of buying one for a pig gun would you recommend it ?
Hell yes. A fine rifle all the way around.
Get
At 7 1/2 pounds w/scope (in .223) and the soft buttstock you'll have trouble beating the pig to death if you miss but it seems to have few jams or misfires.
I don't believe so, since the model 783 uses 2 front Rem 700 bases. The rear one wouldn't match up right.
As a beginner hunter, what would you rather buy as your first rifle, savage axis II or the remington 783
They're both great options. Remington has fixed some of the early QC problems that I saw with the 783, and Savage's new magazine they've developed for the Axis is much better than the one before.
bought one in 300 win mag kicks like a mule popped bull moose 300 yds no problem upgrade to leupoled bases and rings
was thinking about getting one in 300 mag or 7mm. not sure which i want more :(
I got one in 300 mag and it dont kick any harder than the remington ADL had about 5 yrs. ago and it seems to group just as good
Thanks a lot am buying 1 tomorrow
It was for sale for 270 at wal mart. I might get one
Cool video, i was wondering the difference between the 700 and 783. This answered it for me. Thanks!
I had Remington 770 .243 had the same sling stud and it broke
My wife purchases me a Remington 783 in the 308 for 249 dollars. Early Christmas present.. Dunhams Sporting Goods is a great place.. They have sales on every sunday and monday.
nice plinking rifle (I am not a hunter). got one. Honestly only one disadvantage - plastic sling rings.
If you wanted a big improvement on looks of the rifle, stiffer stock, plus steel sling studs, Boyd's makes laminate stocks for the 783.
This rifle was recommended as a good beginner hunting rifle. Would you agree?
Yes. I've also got an article on hunting rifles for beginners: www.huntinggearguy.com/rifle-reviews/hunting-rifles-for-beginners/
Natasha K beginners or poor folk lol
783 Trigger is crisp and smooth much better than my savage axis 243 trigger
Very nice video review. But I am just loving my Ruger American .308!
I think that's the next rifle I have to get my hands on for review.
I bought mine in 300 wm ,i love it
my from along stud broke at the range after about 50 rounds. I had harris bipod legs attached and it just snapped. gonna get a Boyds on it before I even fire it again. take warning I would immediately upgrade stocks or look at other firearms. its was a realiable accurate shooter and that is my only complaint
my front swing stud**
I have one of those with a vortex scope
But that trigger guard ? Why did they make it so ugly? And how much did they save with those cheapo sling attachments? Remington, go into the tool for the stock and re do the trigger guard. I was looking at one in a gun shop and that thing had me handing it back to the clerk real quick. Make it rounded like a real rifle. When the gun shortage is over these or deeply discounted.
This morning I just scored a 783 7 mm mag with scope for 289$ and a 40$ mail in rebate brings it down to 249$! It's a Black Friday special
e2sguy That's a screaming good deal! Where'd you buy the rifle?
Where?
e2sguy That's insane. They're around $400 bucks more or less, that's almost 50% off...
not sure if archangel stocks already made a good one for it.
I don't think they've made one for the Rem 783 yet. Their new Mosin stock sure is cool!
Can you do a mossberg patriot please
So the 783 or the Savage Axis in .308? Can't decide, but the 783 is cheaper right now.
How much cheaper? The 783 has a better trigger and a slightly nicer magazine than an Axis, but it needs to be a quality one. Check bolt turn-in when you buy.
It is about 30-40 cheaper right now for the scope package. I hear the savage may be more accurate, is this true?
I can put 10 shots in the same whole at 200 yards, and shoot dimes at a hundred with the 783
I have heard rumours that the barrel especially the 308, will only last about 300-400 shots, then you will have to replace it, any truth to that???
Pieter Greyling For 308? I really doubt it. 308 is a mild round and should give you ~5000 rounds per barrel.
Most rifles won't even get shot 400 times lol. Its a hunting rifle.
I bought one and will be using it for target shooting all summer, ill get back to you all with a round count and barrel inspection after that. But i have alot of faith in this rifle especially after i fixed the mag feeding issue last night lol.
None at all. Depending on how hot the loads are you would need to run a lot more than 3 or 400 to burn out a tube.Thats all bullshit.
It's a cheap gun, I've never seen a broken trigger guard break, Remington will fix for free, as for the gun you can free float the yourself in less than 1 hour, 783 with the barrel floated will shoot accurately out to 200yds
your camera is amazing
I try to light the rifle well. I've got about 180 watts of CFL lighting to really blast it.
Dunhams sporting goods in northwestern pa.
It was an awesome deal. I grabbed the same caliber from Dunhams in Michigan. Too bad whitetail season is almost over...
e2sguy Academy sports and outdoors SC. 299$
If the Axis without accutriger and this are the same price, which is better ?
This one has a better trigger.
So would you recommend the 783 over the standard axis if they are the same price?
Blake Levarno if you can pick it up and try it, the 783. Some of the ones I tried had a hard bolt turn in and varying quality. Technically, it's got more than the Axis, but the Axis is a better standard rifle.
Thank you for your response! look forward to watching more of your videos and reviews.
Anyways keep up the great work man!
russianky I've been trying to get my hands on an inexpensive 770 to review for a while now and no luck. They're not as popular up here in Canada.
Just got this for 300$ did I get a good deal?
yes, it is, I got one, new from a friend for 300, I'm holding it in my pic
My local gun dealer has it for $259
Damn straight. Got mine for 295 in the box. Love it.
You didn't talk about two important parts, the barrel and the stock. Are they good at all?
And when he was shooting it at the end the bolt must be hard be cause when he pushed forward it lifted off his shoulder
Ben
It's not a high end quality like the 700 but remember the 700 is also responsible for more accidental deaths than any other rifle by going off without warning . Yes it's a little cheaper made but it shoots accurate and functions fine , it does what you need it to do and the price is half what it would be . A little slop in the action won't hurt a thing . It's a 100 yard hunting gun nobody claims it's the best out there
e2sguy you right about that... the 700 is the rifle who killed the most amount of ppls by accident because of there triggers.... at least the 783 have a way better trigger... i have a legend ultra hd scope on mine with a boyds stock varmint thumbhole and a bipod in .308 win... beleive me ... its a great rifle... im probably gonna get a second one in 300 wm
e2sguy the 783 is the best of the low price remingtion rifle ever made
The 783 can compete with bolt guns 3 times its price, that heavy barrell and fat bolt makes all the dfference.
I really like the looks of this rifle
I have a important question? R these rifles any good for hunting , like some the reviews I've read about this rifles ?
Sure, used this one for deer hunting
@@Huntinggearguy is it true what they say about a bolt coming out of the trigger when the trigger wares out
Hmm.. Thinking of grabbing one in .308 at Gander. The are on sale right now.
Do it 'you wont be sorry.
I'm getting one can't wait
can this be upgraded to take a box mag ?
It comes with a detachable mag, but if you're talking about the Rem 700 kits that take higher capacity magazines (5+), I don't think they'll fit.
The Hunting Gear Guy
Was gonna buy this from Cabela’s for $430 plus $50 mail in rebate. Does anyone know a cheaper place to buy this in Canada ? In .223
Can one get a larger mag for this gun?
I don't believe so
Other than the detachable magazine, no real benefit here over the Marlin. Marlin has real sling studs at least.
I am a Mongolian and order a scoped version. Is this unbranded scope decent?
+Davaajav Chanrav Not really. Even getting a $200 scope would be a big upgrade.
One question. Do they sell extended magazine for m783 308 ?
humpty79ify I believe they do I got the 783 in 30 06 it has a 4 round mag I think the 308 has a 4 round mag to
Jacob Roy what's a clip?
Jacob Roy lol ya I don't think they make extended mags for these.....too bad i would get a 100round drum mag for my 7mm mag....I wouldn't have to reload for 2 years.
Jacob Roy it’s a magazine not a clip
Jacob Roy I believe they do come in a 7mm rem mag....ive got a savage 111 in the 7mm rem mag and I love it. Great cartridge for elk!
good group there at the end.
That bolt release is just like a a Marlin xL7. And the sling studs suck, it's just like the Remington 770 and I had a bipod on a 770 and it broke the stud from the recoil.
+blake hagan You're right, the 783 is pretty much a Remington-ized version of the Marlin XL7.
What kind of bases are you using???
That's a beautiful rifle I have the Remington 783 in 30.06 and yes the action is really nice I was wondering what kind scope you using on it
I had a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 on it.
mossberg patriot review please?
ok article: www.huntinggearguy.com/rifle-reviews/mossberg-patriot-review/ video: ruclips.net/video/GGn1OdseqO4/видео.html
will it accept a 700 trigger assembly?
+Unrealistic Daydream No, the 783 is closer to a Marlin XL7 than it is a Rem 700.
Is the 300 win?
What kind of bases are you useing

BTW Ruger has a spectacular customer service dept.
would this be recommended in 223 for plinking?
That's what I bought mine for. Used to plink in 22 LR, got tired of the LR high prices and scarcity. Buy my .223 as quality reloads, recoil is minor, can drag this iron around all day and not notice it. Check out your well connected and customer oriented LGS for bargains they can ship in. These can be had for a little over $300.
is it a free floating barrel?
yes
What round do you recommend for this gun? I think you said you're firing a .270 but I was maybe thinking 7mm?
PJ MasterDiddy Nothing wrong with 7mm Rem mag either!
