    I purchased a 2015 model S 85 2 months ago and I love it. It already had the rear motor replaced by the previous owner and door handles replaced. I had it retrofitted for CCS2 charging and also retrofitted for 32 amp charging.

      Hey there Deb, the battery is still 98% perfect which is better than most for its age so I reckon it will take a long time before battery needs replacing. But yep, it will cost heaps of mula.

    • @tiloalo
      @tiloalo 8 месяцев назад +1

      @aussietaipan8700 the % has nothing to do with the battery failing.
      Most fail suddenly due to the bms failing or smth failing in one of the modules.
      They can be repaired, but even that sets you back 8000$.
      Buying one out of warranty is the lottery but for the money they're awesome cars.

    Ive run a Peal white cream interior Model S P85 sunroof delete black 19" wheels from new, now its 125,000 uk miles. Rear drive unit replaced at 35,000 miles (slight noise, Tesla replaced under warranty) then battery at 75,000 miles (slight coolant leak from day 1 turns out a leaky 4 way valve, Freemont detected fault and replaced under warranty) at no time has the car ever let me down. Still love driving it and agree get a set of winter tyres its a 2.2 ton car it makes then work so well. The delete sunroof (black roof panel and cream Alcantera headlining was a good idea in uk theres no sun! ) and free supercharging for life.....thats genius. Superb quick car (the P versions have a much more powerful inverter that gives 0-60 in 4 seconds) and I spent £1,400 to have all 4 door handles upgraded to V2.5 the redesign that does not fail.

    We have a 2015 85D Factory ordered in 2015 in the fam.. Only thing done and that has been needed is Pads and rotors last year (After 7yrs) Since then nothing else to date other then cabin filter. Have lifetime supercharging on it also. We have 2019 100D also purchased new and to date only thing that was major that needed doing was minor water leak making its way into the rear truck sill not actually into the truck. Other then that have done cabin filter on it also.. Have lifetime supercharging on that one also. Am expecting to have to pay for new drive motors at some point but not expecting to have to worry about that till they have 300 - 500 thousand miles on the clock and thats if at that time it will be needed. Drive motors have really improved over the years and am confident that from 2017 onwards drive motors should last the life of the vehicle... When it come to the battery again same thing should last the life of the vehicle with battery degradation of course ope the the years but which tapers off after a while so the degradation is slow after first 4 or 5 yrs... For example my 2019 S 4yrs in i have just under 9 percent degradation. Over the next 5 yrs i'll most likely see another 3 or 4 prcnt and then maybe 2percnt over the following 5 yrs after that... Tesla's are amazing vehicles... Would never go back to buying a gas powered vehicle especially now with Tesla and their Technology. No other manufacture really stand a chance. Buying a gas powered vehicle is like buying a horse and carriage at this point... Really makes no sense.

      Put a Temperature sensor on that charging plug and watch it over a few hours of charging. Those dryer receptacle plugs aren't really made to dissipate heat for full power for hours. There made for dryers, full power for maybe 45 mins. The internal components cook due to high heat.
      Also, don't gang multiple extension cords at these high power (6 kW +) levels.
      Also turn off the lights and looks for sparks in the outlet and in your power panel while it's charging. Older power panels do not manage heat and full circuit loads as well as modern, fit for purpose panels
      Thanks.

    I was in the same boat as you in terms of buying a used 2015 Model S (85). It had high miles on it, but these cars depreciate like gas cars do, which is ridiculous because Teslas last longer. Becuase its a 2015 i also got free supercharging for LIFE. I've had a few maintenance issues since having it (door handles, etc) but otherwise its been great. So much so that I want to get another one.
    Funny story about the fart signal feature and I found this out the hard way. Make sure you turn this feature off when you're taking work related calls in your car while driving. 😅

    • @tiloalo

      Price depreciate mostly once out of warranty, as the 20k$ battery replacement is quite scary.

When I bought mine I did all of the paperwork that I needed to send to TESLA while I was at the dealership and by the time I got to the first supercharger they had already changed ownership to me. That is the one disadvantage because TESLA couldn’t tell you anything about the car

      Well……….. a lot of it is determined by where you live. I live in Ohio and in the winter it really sucks up the power. With a full charge of 245 in the winter I’ll maybe get half of that when it is around freezing. When it is warmer out of the 245 I will probably get between 200 and 215 miles. Not bad for a 10-year-old car. I have also heard that when it’s really hot around 100° mileage is affected. I have taken a few long trips and never ran out of juice. The car does a good job of monitoring your power and sending you to the right charger.

      @williewilliams9871 Год назад

      Yes it is still the original battery. When it is fully charged, I still have a range of 250 miles. I was talking to my service guy who always comes to my house when I need service and he said they have very few batteries that completely go out and have to be changed, of course the few people that have had them go out makes such a spectacle of it that people feel like it is a really common issue. I think at this point when my warranty is up I am still going to keep the car. My initial plans were to sell it and get something that still had a battery warranty on it but the car still looks and runs amazing and I want to keep the full sunroof. I also have unlimited super charging so I’m willing to roll the dice.

    Best Review ive seen so far. I definetely wanna get a tesla model s soon, sell my current bmw, i really live tesla and all the tech, i drove 3 teslas before, First a model x performance for a day with 800 horsepowers, then model Y for an hour, which was long range and less fast, and then a Model 3 Standard, drove 2 laps around Nürburgring Nordschleife as well. The weight was scary cause it isnt the best braking or handling car. But i fall in love with this older Model S, specifically cause of the Life long supercharging, its too good to be true, like 500 HP, which is good enough, enough range, and otherwise i dont see anything why i wouldnt buy a Tesla as my next car. Need to save some money tho, also waiting for the cheaper Model 2 or Model Q coming out, for 25 Thousand euros. Need to see how that one is.
    But thank you for that awesome review, really helped me what to look for when i do buy a Model S

    My understanding is that if you don't have an account set up with Tesla, you won't be able to supercharge. Most used dealers don't bother to set up an account so it's tough to test supercharging.

    • @carsgrillingandtechnology7800
      @carsgrillingandtechnology7800  2 года назад +1

      That is a good point I am not sure how that would work. When I bought mine I did all of the paperwork that I needed to send to TESLA while I was at the dealership and by the time I got to the first supercharger they had already changed ownership to me. That is the one disadvantage because TESLA couldn’t tell you anything about the car.

      I have no idea. Prices are all over the place right now. If you are getting it from a private owner, I would try to get as much service information as you can. My P 85 has about 95,000 miles on it and if I sold it I would want more than $26,000 for it.

      It's kind of the price. Mileage doesn't matter too much as the battery do not tend to fail due to the mileage but rather unpredictably.
      As soon as they reach 8 years and the battery/motor is out of warranty the price crash (a motor would cost you 10k and a battery 20k).
