Matt you are a literal life saver!!! I filmed a short using my canon m200 in vertical and have never posted a short before. I had everything already filmed and edited when I realized something was wrong. After 3 frustrating hours of trying to figure out what the issue was I came across this video and realized that my timeline was in the wrong resolution... such a simple fix and didn't have to redo anything, thanks a trillion!!

Hello, Matt! Davinci is better then prmiere pro in video editing?
Any idea why the project settings won't save when you try to use 1440x2560 resolution? Any other resolution works fine but trying these it will just revert back to the default.
I was wondering if these export settings would work for Instagram reels or anything needs to be different 🤔

Interesting, but in QuickTime i has no issue, but exported in mp4 video has audio quality problems, ease to hear it if it come water fall, or sparklers

You saved a .mov format and uploaded a .mp4 format. I am getting issues while uploading on RUclips through phone. It says unable to preview video. I am not sure whether that's because of some settings used by DaVinci or some different stuff.
Hello. I have received a project file which was exported with the latest free version of Davinci Resolve. I am unable to import the project file with my Studio version 18.1.2. First I thought maybe the different version is the issue, but the projectfile itself is only 80kb which seems to be not a normal size it's too small it should be 1+ MB. Do you have any idea what could be the issue? Thanks a lot.

So I got a dilemma (might be able to help) I’m a video editor for a friend that I use Davinci. When I send him the video, he said the video doesn’t work when he tries to add his thumbnail. But when I put it through an encoder (handbrake) it works but the aspect ratio is zoomed in too much and I can’t get the settings for his preferences. I need help figure this out.

i dont know why but my youtube shorts always end up laggy or fussy when i upload them but on phone and pc they look perfect and clip software is set to clip at 1080p at 60fps..
I followed all of these directions, but I'm getting the error message "Unable to preview video" when trying to upload my video to youtube shorts. Googling the error message, it seems to be a problem with Davinci Resolve. How are you able to upload without getting this message? Thanks
Hi Matt, I did everything possible but RUclips Studion on my Android phone doesn't upload the short. It only pops up: preview of this videio not possible. With tiktok and Instagram is everything working fine. Also with the setting from your video, it blocks it. Do you have an idea what could be the issue?
after doing all that when I try to upload the clip, youtube refuses to upload it. {unable to preview video}

Hey Matt, I followed the steps you described and used the same export settings but when I get my video file from dropbox and I select it in the YT app I'm getting the "Unable to preview video" message and nothing gets added to the short I'm trying to create. Other videos made on my phone work fine. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance! ;)

@@Simp.lySimpleton unfortunately not yet. The couple of shorts I've been able to upload were edited on my phone. I was hoping Matt could give us an alternative export setting.

Quick question why upload the video to dropbox, or similar, to download it on your phone to then reload it up to RUclips? Wouldn't a USB cable be easier to use for transferring to your phone, and if your internet is good enough then why not just upload it from your PC?

Wish i knew how to force it to show me vertical video in the preview...no matter how many times i tell it vertical video it never shows as vertical in the edit view
Ok so the vertical check only ONLY works if you have 1920x1080 picked it will ignore you if you have anything but that selected. terrible way of doing it if you ask me.
Can I use Da Vinci in an i5 Processor,?
Davinci may show you an error when you have not enough RAM memory. Core i5 11400f works fine, but not with 4k 50fps 10bit :)
hey Matt, I#ve got a problem with YT shorts and maybe you know the solution?
when I render a danvinci video , upload it to google fotos, download it to my phone I receive a "video preview not possible" when adding a youtube short ...
when I instead of "adding a short" in my youtube app I just select "upload video" it will work ...
but I want to use the "add short" option to later add music from the shorts library ...
I dont find a solution on the internet ... do you know one ?

AAARRRRGGGG! I follow every step, happy camper, all goes well, I finished my short, go to export, follow all the steps, it looks great and when I hit "add to render queue" PLOP, it adds it to the queue just fine, but not before resetting the resolution to 2160x2160.
Which I have not selected at any point in the process, nor are any of my clips in a square ratio.
I can do everything you said, but for the life of me I can't get it to render the video in a vertical ratio (2160 x 3840 in my case).
My bad for not trying this with a random clip first, but here we are. This is my first ever short, yay!, but this is driving me up the wall right now.

Ok, I found my answer. I am using the free version and it won't allow me to render anything over UHD. Meaning, in this case, they won't let you export with a vertical resolution over 2160.
Did the math, used manual settings, 1215x2160 aaaaaand...
FAIL! Can't use odd numbers, so I changed it to 1216x2160 and it exported like a boss.
Annoying, but there you have it.

Thanks! Does zooming in degrade the quality? Or is there a way to make it into a vertical without the zooming? I thought there was a way, but maybe it doesn't make a difference. Nontheless, thanks for all your informational videos!
Yes, when you zoom in and crop the edges, you lose some resolution. You could rotate the footage 90 degrees, but then your viewer would have to rotate their phone, which on RUclips shorts kinda defeats the purpose. Ideally, you should shoot for the format and rotate the camera for vertical footage.
I swear i did that and it still cuts off the video edges left and right.

Why does every RUclipsr I come across recommend a different bit rate for exporting to Reels/Shorts/etc? Where do you guys figure out the best bit rate to export as, because you all say something different, I don’t know who to listen to.
I work in cafeteria in school in Chicago. When kids make fun of my deformed face I'll scratz there food with my finger nails before I serve them on there food trays. Some look puzzled as to why there food has Scratz marks hehee hehe
