Insta360 just dropped a major update to their free desktop editing software, Insta360 Studio. The update comes with a fresh design and layout and some long, long-awaited features. Because now:
You can combine all the 360° files into a single timeline, Multitask and work on multiple edits at the same time, and you can now add background tunes, text, and fancy transitions. And incredibly, you now get proxy editing on Studio 5.0. Alright, let’s dive in so I can show and tell you more about Insta360 Studio v5.0 - more than the trailer from Insta360 shows you. And I'm not a big Studio user - I use the app 99% of the time - but these changes could draw me into using Studio far more, when I’m not travelling. Or if I ever transfer out of using my iPad and onto a MacBook.

great video, thanks for this, I was hoping if you would know how to save 360 Videos to upload to youtube. The kind of 360 Videos that you can pan around, I cant seem to export as 360, only as flat videos.
There's a couple of basics missing - no way (without workarounds) to fade in the beginning of the project or fade out the end - and no crossfading of audio to avoid a jarring jump between the audio of loud and quiet clips (but you can fade one out and the other one in if you don't mind the brief silence between). Hopefully they will improve on this in future versions. Also it's strange that only 30fps exports are possible, and I know that some users want 360 degree exports. Lastly, it would be worth someone (me??!) making a short video showing the new way of editing the transitions between keyframes in the Project tab, which is completely new and much better than the old way.
Agree with those basics - as far as I can remember, there's never been fade in at start or fade out at end - which was / is frustrating. Am I right? And cross dissolve for audio is something i use all the time on Lumafusion - needs to be here too. And go for it with that video!

I’m not sure why but when you add your own music, when exporting the playback sound is heavily compressed and somewhat muffled
This IS a really nice update, very smooth timeline scrubbing/preview, but I cannot fathom how they overlooked a basic crossfade transition. THE most basic transition is missing creating a HUGE problem. All of these transitions are arguably fast paced/for upbeat and action video. So if I want the most basic transition in editing I have to make the cuts with extra time on each end of each clip for finishing in premiere. When editing it to a music track in the 360 studio, it makes it a nightmare.
I did suggest they add this asap

I was so happy to see the projects, until I found out it does not allow to export it as 360 video... Someone have a work around how I can combine multiple clips from different videos and make it one video?

Hi Sarb, you mentioned you use a iPad when travelling. How do you manage videos with it? Do you wifi transfer to iPad to delete on Go3 to make more room? What about running out of memory on iPad? Do you then transfer to ssd? What is your set up? I’m travelling soon and don’t want to have to take MacBook Air with me. Any advice is appreciated. Love your videos, experiences and advice. Hi Sarb, thanks for the quick reply. Watched your suggested video. Useful and good, but a new video on how to take your 360 videos when travelling, wifi transfer to iPad (mini in my case) and then transfer to ssd to take home for editing on my laptop when home to clear off 360 camera and iPad storage space when travelling. Thus eliminating the need to travel with laptop. I have spent hours looking for a video like this but cannot find any. Most only show transfer to laptop. Would be very useful if you created one. Thank you for all your helpful and entertaining videos.
@gerrydearing1401 my workflow with 360 videos like the X3 is very different to GO 3 and Ace Pro as they need to be processed via the app or studio for reframing first. But after that, it’s not too dissimilar. And I use this workflow so I can used wired transfer not wireless. Much quicker. Will bear that in mind but have schedule baked in for next few weeks. Hopefully soon though.
Ok, so I’d have to wifi transfer from Go 3 to iPad in 360 app then edit first before transferring to ssd or can I just transfer in to 360 app then export to iPad photos then copy/transfer to ssd? Would that be the process? Thanks Sarb.

Sorry to bother you with these questions, just been frustrated with trying to keep memory clear on both 360 go 3 and iPad while travelling to be able to take more videos without memory restrictions. They added so much, but none of the features that I'm actually needing like AI punch-in and effects. They STILL don't allow us to change the default export format, a simple feature that could really save me a lot of time.

Anyone else getting "Export Failed: export task interrupted due to rejected request" messages after trying to export the project?
V5 will not export edited videos. Keep getting ERROR code 1024. The INSTA help community has numerous of same complaints but no answer as to how to fix problem
I haven’t experienced any yet. I hope they come up with a fix for you and others soon.
@@TheTechPacker Well it's been two weeks since last post and Insta came out with Version 5.1. Again they DIDN'T bother to fully test it account the same bug is still present. You can't export edited videos, as in ver.5, get error code 1024
Has anyone figured out how to change the frame rate in the Project mode. Allowing it to match the clip rate you are adding? It seem to be greyed out at 30FPS
No - you can't do that yet. Hopefully in an update.
can you export as 360 video? I have not figured it out yet...
Correction: yes you can export 360 immersive video for individual media files using the Media tab, but not for multiple clips on a single timeline in the Project tab - not as far as i can see anyway
I'm having a lot of crash/freeze issues since the update, serious pain in the @$$.
That is a pain. I haven’t experienced any yet. Make sure you log problem with insta360

"Split a clip in two then split it again" Hi, but where? I have Studio V5.1 and I can't find any split menu, just 'mark as trim.'
The bigger viewer area is SO NEEDED. You could have done a shorter video by saying, "Insta360 Studio is now 47% of Capcut."
Wouldn't get much watchtime. Maybe a second if I really enunciate. Good title though.
It's a shame you can't (yet) detach it and drag it onto a second monitor and full-screen it there, like in VideoProc Vlogger (and others). But the tracks beneath it are resizeable if you drag on the join between them and the viewer (which of course makes the viewer smaller, however).
