These are great features, but falling short of what the smartphone application does is still a huge disappointment. I understand the cost of development, but Studio should be a selling point. Currently it feels like a bait and switch operation. Although, I'm not hating. I love my camera and what it does.
It is really light on less extreme transitions like a cross dissolve or a fade to black, no fade audio, color grading is a bit light and I would really like to see Shot Lab on a desktop. I get pretty tired screwing around with phone or iPad and then exporting to the editing program. It's a good step but still needs more. Dissolves, fade for audio and vids and Shot Lab please!!
For me, unfortunetally and on several of my PC's it simply crashes, closes down unexpectedly, is very slow with stuttering playback in the viewer, so, not impressed at all 😞
It's diabolical not being able to choose a frame rate - can't change from 30fps but even worse is that if you time a video sequence to a musical beat it does not export correctly and goes more out of time the longer the clip is. This is fundamental stuff and I can't believe nobody has addressed the timing I just described!
I am a fairly new video editor/studio editor (X3 and Go3 plus IPhone 14 Pro clips). Before this update I was doing a prelim edit on iPad, then to Studio and then to Premiere Pro. Now, I do everything but music, audio and color grading in Studio ... those tweaks in Premiere Pro. I use Epidemic Sound which has a PP plugin and no Copyright flag although I am not yet monetized. So, my workflow now is: InShot for iPhone 14 Pro editing to clips, move X3 and Go3 video files to laptop, make clips in Studio of each video, Project with all clips, add titles, transitions, keyframes, etc., Export file and final music, audio, color grading in Premiere Pro. Everything is easy and straightforward as far as I am concerned. Thanks for this video ... helped me understand some features that I have not yet explored.
Summary from the test video I uploaded just now - - Yes you can use your own audio - Yes you can use video not related to Insta360 cameras - Yes the Insta360 music is copyright on RUclips but allowed to be used (no strike) - No you cannot crossfade audio between clips - Yes you can fade audio in and out - No you cannot fade in video at the start nor fade it out at the end.

You can see on his project time stamps that he has access to the Insta360 Studio Update 5.0 since March 19, 2024. And can also see that he was working on this RUclips video until 11:33PM (i.e. right before midnight) for a 12:01 AM release. All this implies that he has a direct connect with Insta360 and PERHAPS The 360 Guy is also right now secretly previewing the next new hardware release?!?! Why else would Insta360 have a massive software update (from a hardware company) ... only if a new camera was imminent ... maybe a new ONE RS 1-INCH 360 EDITION 8k???? Come on 360 Guy, you can tell us. We will keep it a secret.
I believe this must be software preview for him. Not available for public yet. But since Insta360 has Announce it on their RUclips channel, i believe itu Will be available publicly soon
A significant missing feature (as far as I can see) - you cannot fade in or fade out the beginning and end of the video. The fade to black transition is just that - a transition between 2 clips, not something for the start or finish. To get around that you would have to use a bit of black video of your own making at the end and start and fade in and out from that with the transition.
@@kislyjdozhdik Personally I don't make that kind of video but I do agree that it should be supported. I very much hope that more features will appear soon in new versions.
That's one thing I noticed when I first used the phone/tablet version. You can also use a jpg or other image file instead of the video, but yes, you need to put something at the start and end for fade in/out.
why fps is locked? i wanna edit my onex2 videos which are 25 fps..and i cant? why is thaT? i will have to export at 30 fps which will cause drop frames ..any clue?
Excellent update we all have been waiting for! But but but.....still no shotlab features inside the studio software. This means you still need to use a smartphone for that. Why why why is this not added to the studio software?
How do I sort my files in the project media tab once it's been imported? It appears randomly. And there is no option to sort by date or name or any other way. I have 116 files. I cannot even begin to edit my footage chronologically cos I'm trying to make a video about a trip to vietnam.

I can see the STATs GPS Data when I am on the Media tab, but when I transition to work on the Project tab, I don't see it anymore. Will it show up once I hit Export? 1:07
Is it just me or anyone else noticed it? Exporting became really slow. No matter if I use x264 or x265...As I remember I didn't have this before the version 5 update.
what is the LRV file is that needed in the editing to download onto a PC as well , also can you convert the files to proxies running from the camera or is that exclusive to saving files to the desktop or any drive you happen to be storing the files on. my first clip is huge my PC can't handle it I'm converting to proxy now hopefully that will work . next time ill press stop and go on the record button . i hope to get somewhere with this I have an X4 and and an One RS 1 inch and don't know what Im doing lol , although I'm familiar with FCP and Affinity photo and some other stuff which should help I'm excited .
Unfortunate that this "STUDIO" app is still missing major things that the phone app has... The ability to place a LUT on log footage and or be able to correct LOG footage at all. You will still NEED to use another program to color which is a headache for a "STUDIO APP" The "STATS" portion of the app has not changed at all!! Why does the phone app allow soooo many more options 🤕 this still has the same 3 and the only thing you can change is size and color. If they can fix those things and also add the option to directly upload to the web that would be super clutch! Not sure about what other options may be missing ....but add on if you know more!! I do like that they are trying to keep this application constantly updated but its been limited from day one imho 🤕... fingers crossed for the future updates
this is exactly what i missed in the older studios.. bit dicky that one couldnt have longer videos than 20 or so minutes in em.. thats fixed now thankfully.. i do however hope they can let you scroll through the timeline better than 'zoom out and have a guess'.. maybe my pc is just a bit slow.... ohwell.. multiple video merging is a good start
This latest software upgrade is so much better and previously. Question can I add horizontal lock in this studio as forgot to add it in camera setting, I have managed to find Roll angle but after adding in my new angle it the defaults to zero as video is played ????

This has been brought to Insta's attention and their position is -- If one wants to combine 360 content then use a 3rd party program.
No - Although in Project one can add 360 clips to the timeline and even do Stats and the video will play in the preview screen. The issue is when one Exports the Project -- It will not be a combined 360 video. This is a shortfall by Insta.
This is only available in Media. It's not available in Project. While one can combine 360 content in Project and even do Stats -- When Exported one does not get a combined 360 video. This is a real shortcoming using any of Insta's software.
BIG concern here: the export quality. My Insta360 X3 footage records at 5760x2880. In the *previous* version of Studio 360, I could trim the (single-clip) video, and then export it at the SAME resolution. It now appears the maximum resolution (in this video and in my downloaded version) is only 3840x2160. That's a 30% drop in picture quality/resolution! Am I missing something? Am I really giving up 30% of my resolution in order to combine clips?
Note: the media tab STILL exists in the update, so I can still upload the single-clip video in full 5760x2880 resolution. But it appears that combining the clips (in project tab) lowers the max resolution when exported. If this is true, it's no different than what I already have in Wondershare Filmora 12/13, but Studio has far fewer editing features than Filmora.
There are some new lessons using the features in version 5. The other lessons using older version you can still use as the process is exactly the same. Hope that helps.
Within Project one can combine 360 clips together - One can even overlay your data (Stats) and it plays well in the Preview screen. The issue is when one Exports to the camera roll. What one sees in your Project isn't what you end up with in your camera roll. This is a real shortfall by Insta. Their position is -- If one wants to combine 360 clips together - Use a 3rd party program.
Has anyone figured out how to change the frame rate in the Project mode. Allowing it to match the clip rate you are adding? It seem to be greyed out at 30FPS
This would be a great tutorial if it included current instructions or procedures, only. How it is now as opposed to how it used to be introduces confusion and dilutes your obvious expertise. Hopefully, someone will come out with a tutorial for the current version designed for the new camera owner who wants to do well.
What's missing is the convenience of syncing the audio. I don't have the mic adapter, yet. So had to use the motorcycle horn or clap. When you click the left/right arrow keys, it goes to the next/previous frame. But it does not play the audio on that frame. So syncing is a bit more work.
Hello, I just installed Version 5 on my macbook air m1 - but the resolution is different to the former version.There is no green fullscreen-button in the upper left corner (is grey) - so this version is running in window-mode. On my windows-machine everything is o.k. Feature or bug?? Wolfgang
Still can't export combined 360 videos, which is the main reason I have premiere pro. But nice to be able to do more in the studio for reframed only videos.
Played around it a little, and the updates are great. Really love the transitions and text features. One problem I ran into however, was trying to use footage from other cameras.... Osmo Pocket 3 was fine, but the Sony ZV E1 10-bit 4.2.2 footage would crash the program. Still nice, but limited if you use multiple cameras.
is it possible to add video clips onto that program that i didnt record with the insta360? like will i be able to combine my insta360 x3 videos with my iphone videos on the 360 video editing program?
@@falutvtarjan7772 Yes, that facility does exist. I have been testing to see if there is any actual crossfade between clips when the video transitions are used, but I don't think there is. But I am using a Chromebook to access my PC 50km away and so I can't be totally sure. Still, it does seem very usable in all other respects.
Thanks for the video. I just had a play and I noticed that if you add a timeshift in the media section on a clip if does not bring that across to the project section unless I did something wrong.
this has to be the best tutorial I have seen, such clear dialogue and precise, some are by creators with a different language , so it's nice to have a home grown version. thank you so much
Biggest issue that I have so far is that you cant select multiple clips on the timeline so that you can grab and drag them all over to the right to make room to insert a new clip. You have to move one at a time starting with the last to move several so you can insert a clip. Please tell me if someone knows another way. That and I have several crashes... very thankful for the autosave feature...
You don't need move existing clips to insert a new one. Just select the new clip and drag it to the timeline location over the existing clip where you want it inserted. The new one is inserted and the existing clips and transitions will be moved to the right.
That doesn’t work for me. Says that there isn’t enough room to insert. Maybe it’s because there I already have an audio track as well. Don’t know. But it doesn’t work.
You can in Project - Then hit the Play button and watch in the preview screen. The issue is when Exporting the Project. The resulting video isn't a combined 360 video. Insta is aware and states to use a 3rd party program to accomplish.
It's a copyright breach when you are using the music from App or Studio on RUclips. It would be great to make a tutorial, how to add best free and non copyright music for insta360 videos on RUclips.
When I uploaded my test video I got this - "Status overview - The Content ID claim on your video doesn't affect your channel. This is not a copyright strike." But someone else has reported a different message. Maybe it depends on the exact music item chosen.
I just DL 5.0 and most of the options in your tut aren't even present. The only options I have are Media Processing, Clip Management, and File Propertieson the right, all of which are F**k all useless. No options at all for turning off the horribly wandery flowstate "stabilization". Honestly I'm done with Insta360's garbage apps and garbage overheating after 15 minutes file corrupting cameras. This junk has cost me so much time and productivity. It's way past time to go to the competition (aka DJI or GoPro or ANYTHING that's not Insta360.)
@@The360Guy in the about section it literally says version 5.0.0 released March 26th. I tried it, got nothing, deleted it and reinstalled it, same version 5.0.0 directly from the insta360 website, still trash. Definitely NOT a version issue. Maybe it’s got bugs or whatever but I’m done.
@the360guy according to the about info I’m on the latest version 5.0.0 from March 26 2024, so definitely NOT a version issue. I DL directly from insta360’s website. When o installed it on my M1 Mac it was missing most of the features you show in your tut. I then uninstalled it and all of the associated files, re-DL from insta360’s site, and reinstalled it. Still Trash. Idk if this version just has bugs or whatever but I’m super done. Hopefully it works well enough for your other viewers.

Any idea how to remove an object from a video? I put my X4 on a tripod and it's all invisible aside from the base and I'm just trying to figure out how to remove it.
Thank you for being ahead of the curve on this and providing such thorough tutorial. My question is can I take a timeline out of 360 and insert it into Davinci Resolve to further edit or color grade? Any limitations, concerns, etc?
You can export from the Insta360 Studio and then take the resulting video and further edit it in Resolve. The only problem is that exporting twice can impact quality slightly, but probably not too noticeable. Best way would be to export in the ProRes format in the studio and edit that in Resolve, then export in whatever final format you want from there.
Are keyframe transitions broken? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. In the previous version I just clicked on the yellow line between keyframes and selected the desired transition. This doesn't seem to work anymore in 5.0.0. Thanks for the video.
It does work but I forget how... off the top of my head you have to ensure that the relevant clip lights up as selected first (you know, click on it). Or was it by ensuring that the "playhead" is within the clip...?
Ok, here's how keyframe transitions now work. Instead of delicately clicking on the yellow line, simply ensure the playhead (the playing back position) is over the relevant keyframe transition line. Make sure that the clip you are working on is selected (click on it so you get the yellow box round it). Ensure that the "video" tab is displayed on the right hand panel of the interface. Then you will see the options for keyframe transitions appear and you can click on the one you want, to edit the yellow line currently (in effect) playing. This actually works much better IMHO but - YMMV!

The most important of all….. slice out parts within video, no still not.
i hope they add to select saving to a memory card in the phone app as the files consume to much of the onboard memory
As far as I can tell you can't combine multiple 360 videos and export as full 360 format. You can only combine reframed clips. Bit of an oversight.

In the *previous* version of Studio 360, I could trim the (single-clip) video, and then export it at the SAME resolution. It now appears the maximum resolution (in this video and in my downloaded version) is only 3840x2160. That's a 30% drop in picture quality/resolution! Am I missing something? Am I really giving up 30% of my resolution in order to combine clips?
Note: the media tab STILL exists in the update, so I can still upload the single-clip video in full 5760x2880 resolution. But it appears that combining the clips (in project tab) lowers the max resolution when exported. If this is true, it's no different than what I already have in Wondershare Filmora 12/13, but Studio has far fewer editing features than Filmora.

There are some new lessons using the features in version 5. The other lessons using older version you can still use as the process is exactly the same. Hope that helps.
It seems the Project mode doesn't have a function to combine 360 clips into a longer 360 video. Or am I missing something?
Within Project one can combine 360 clips together - One can even overlay your data (Stats) and it plays well in the Preview screen. The issue is when one Exports to the camera roll. What one sees in your Project isn't what you end up with in your camera roll. This is a real shortfall by Insta. Their position is -- If one wants to combine 360 clips together - Use a 3rd party program.
Has anyone figured out how to change the frame rate in the Project mode. Allowing it to match the clip rate you are adding? It seem to be greyed out at 30FPS

No - Use Media instead then you can.

This would be a great tutorial if it included current instructions or procedures, only. How it is now as opposed to how it used to be introduces confusion and dilutes your obvious expertise. Hopefully, someone will come out with a tutorial for the current version designed for the new camera owner who wants to do well.

What's missing is the convenience of syncing the audio. I don't have the mic adapter, yet. So had to use the motorcycle horn or clap. When you click the left/right arrow keys, it goes to the next/previous frame. But it does not play the audio on that frame. So syncing is a bit more work.
Hello, I just installed Version 5 on my macbook air m1 - but the resolution is different to the former version.There is no green fullscreen-button in the upper left corner (is grey) - so this version is running in window-mode. On my windows-machine everything is o.k.

Still can't export combined 360 videos, which is the main reason I have premiere pro.

Played around it a little, and the updates are great. Really love the transitions and text features. One problem I ran into however, was trying to use footage from other cameras.... Osmo Pocket 3 was fine, but the Sony ZV E1 10-bit 4.2.2 footage would crash the program. Still nice, but limited if you use multiple cameras.
is it possible to add video clips onto that program that i didnt record with the insta360?
like will i be able to combine my insta360 x3 videos with my iphone videos on the 360 video editing program?
This is an amazing update. The project tab looks exactly like Shotcut which I use so the learning curve is a bit flatter.
Unfortunately you cannot add additional tracks, I.e. a music track and a sfx track or am I missing something

if it's a Mac you have to un-full-screen it I believe to see the new options.

Possible dealbreaker - are audio crossfades, or at least audio fade in/out, provided?. Kind of essential in most productions IMHO.

@@falutvtarjan7772 Yes, that facility does exist. I have been testing to see if there is any actual crossfade between clips when the video transitions are used, but I don't think there is. But I am using a Chromebook to access my PC 50km away and so I can't be totally sure. Still, it does seem very usable in all other respects.

Thanks for the video. I just had a play and I noticed that if you add a timeshift in the media section on a clip if does not bring that across to the project section unless I did something wrong.

This is possible in Media - One video at a time though.
Biggest issue that I have so far is that you cant select multiple clips on the timeline so that you can grab and drag them all over to the right to make room to insert a new clip. You have to move one at a time starting with the last to move several so you can insert a clip. Please tell me if someone knows another way. That and I have several crashes... very thankful for the autosave feature...
You don't need move existing clips to insert a new one. Just select the new clip and drag it to the timeline location over the existing clip where you want it inserted. The new one is inserted and the existing clips and transitions will be moved to the right.
That doesn’t work for me. Says that there isn’t enough room to insert. Maybe it’s because there I already have an audio track as well. Don’t know. But it doesn’t work.

You can in Project - Then hit the Play button and watch in the preview screen. The issue is when Exporting the Project. The resulting video isn't a combined 360 video. Insta is aware and states to use a 3rd party program to accomplish.
It's a copyright breach when you are using the music from App or Studio on RUclips. It would be great to make a tutorial, how to add best free and non copyright music for insta360 videos on RUclips.
When I uploaded my test video I got this - "Status overview - The Content ID claim on your video doesn't affect your channel. This is not a copyright strike." But someone else has reported a different message. Maybe it depends on the exact music item chosen.
I just DL 5.0 and most of the options in your tut aren't even present. The only options I have are Media Processing, Clip Management, and File Propertieson the right, all of which are F**k all useless. No options at all for turning off the horribly wandery flowstate "stabilization". Honestly I'm done with Insta360's garbage apps and garbage overheating after 15 minutes file corrupting cameras. This junk has cost me so much time and productivity. It's way past time to go to the competition (aka DJI or GoPro or ANYTHING that's not Insta360.)

I DL directly from insta360’s website. When o installed it on my M1 Mac it was missing most of the features you show in your tut. I then uninstalled it and all of the associated files, re-DL from insta360’s site, and reinstalled it.
Still Trash.
Idk if this version just has bugs or whatever but I’m super done. Hopefully it works well enough for your other viewers.

Any idea how to remove an object from a video? I put my X4 on a tripod and it's all invisible aside from the base and I'm just trying to figure out how to remove it.
Thank you for being ahead of the curve on this and providing such thorough tutorial. My question is can I take a timeline out of 360 and insert it into Davinci Resolve to further edit or color grade? Any limitations, concerns, etc?
You can export from the Insta360 Studio and then take the resulting video and further edit it in Resolve. The only problem is that exporting twice can impact quality slightly, but probably not too noticeable. Best way would be to export in the ProRes format in the studio and edit that in Resolve, then export in whatever final format you want from there.

Yes - Under the Media tab. This cannot be done in Project.
Are keyframe transitions broken? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. In the previous version I just clicked on the yellow line between keyframes and selected the desired transition. This doesn't seem to work anymore in 5.0.0. Thanks for the video.
It does work but I forget how... off the top of my head you have to ensure that the relevant clip lights up as selected first (you know, click on it). Or was it by ensuring that the "playhead" is within the clip...?
Ok, here's how keyframe transitions now work. Instead of delicately clicking on the yellow line, simply ensure the playhead (the playing back position) is over the relevant keyframe transition line. Make sure that the clip you are working on is selected (click on it so you get the yellow box round it). Ensure that the "video" tab is displayed on the right hand panel of the interface. Then you will see the options for keyframe transitions appear and you can click on the one you want, to edit the yellow line currently (in effect) playing. This actually works much better IMHO but - YMMV!
