Adjusting Xfinity wifi routers to fix a Roku that won't connect to the network

  • Suddenly having troubles with your Roku connecting to your wifi? You are not alone. If you use your Comcast/Xfinity modem as your wifi router, this fix is for you. This tutorial will show you how to log in to your Xfinity internet account and adjust your 2.4 GHz wifi settings so you Roku will be able to connect again.
    Over the weekend I helped my brother troubleshoot his Roku and why it wasn't connecting to his wifi. All the other devices in his house connected fine and the Roku could see the network and had excellent signal. Scanning the Roku forums, this seems like a constant problem for Roku owners.

    Thank u so much! Xfinity technician was over to my house and spent two hours, restarting modem, changing old cable wiring outside our house (under Winter storm warning with below zero temperature), unplugging modem etc and still our Roku would not connect. I was about to switch to AT&T internet if i hadn't come across your excellent tutorial. Thank u so much. Happy Holidays to u and your family.

    Thank you! I recently traded in my old 21 year modem for Comcast latest with modem and wifi all in one. Well after 2 weeks Roku stopped, couldn't figure out why, tried everything. Refused to connect to internet. Well stumbled on this tutorial. Wow it worked! Saved me from a call to a snively nosed Comcast worker! Thank you!

    thank you Dominic. In my case i used the Xfinity app on my cell phone to log into my Xfinity account and from there was able to get to the Comcast modem settings, was able to drive down to the WiFi protocol settings and yeah, just g,n no B. On my phone app there was a drop-down dialog that had a radio button with 2 choices, 2.4GHZ g,n or 2.4GZ b,g,n, I clicked the radio button for the b,g,n option and then clicked 'apply settings'. After a couple of mins, the Roku connected and content was displayed.

    Omg thank you so much! I literally tried everything and this worked. For anyone wondering this can also be done in the xfinity app. In the app click the connect icon at the bottom. Then click then name of your Wi-Fi. After that click advanced settings from there you want to select 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Then you will click edit next to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

    This was the cure for my Roku issue... I have multiple Roku's throughout the house, some with Excellent Wifi signals and others with Poor Wifi signals. Was going to but a Signal Booster... You saved me, even my Poor signal TV's are working perfectly. Liked & Subscribed1 Thanks Brother Dominic!

    Tysm, they use the app now but all the directions are still basically the same. I knew something was up when this issue only appeared with our roku devices after using the comcast gateway so this was a lifesaver.

    O.m.g I totaly dont use Xfinisomething and I come from somewhere in Canada, I had the exact same prob than your brother, I tried two other different methods online and it never worked a bit. I was TOTALY unsure about yours, and... wtg it did work almost instantly! I am flabbergasted! Thx thx thx!

    OMG, tears, I'm so happy, nobody could help not xfinity nor roku, thought I'd never have access to my Roku ever again. Took me a while to find advanced settings because I have a Chrome O/S - but I found it and changed it really easy! Watching my Roku as I type. Thank you soooooo much Dominic, I think I love you! 😍

    I tried this out the other day and it worked like a charm, but I had to do it again today and it still wouldn't connect no matter how many times I tried. No joke, I got pissed off and threw my roku at the wall, plugged it back in about 15 minutes later, and to my surprise, the abuse worked.

    I am having this same issue with my Roku, after an xfinity software update. I tried this fix, but I do not have access to 2.4 and 5g settings. These are "automatically managed" now to "optimize my experience" and it seems like there is no way to circumvent it. So my Roku box is a paperweight now. Thanks, xfinity.

    First off I gotta thank this guy because I've been at it for a week now since I got home from camping and had unplugged my roku for some reason and haven't been able to get it to reconnect, but this actually just now did the trick. The downside is I couldn't get anywhere on my computer trying to follow his instructions until I got on my phone and logged into the xfinity app (I hate how they seem to be FORCING me to use my phone app for everything now and quite frankly distrust it. I don't use xfinity phone services so why do they want me to put an app on my phone?). Anyway, i went into the app (my phone is connected to my wifi, I clicked on "Connect" down at the bottom of the screen, my wifi name popped up and I tapped on it, then tapped on "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of that screen, and at the top of the next screen is the "2.4 and 5GHz WiFi" he shows in this tutorial. I tapped on the "edit" 2.4 GHz WiFi option and saw that mine was set wrong, it gives you a little drop down menu and I selected the b,g,n option, scrolled down and tapped "Save Changes", waited five minutes, and VIOLA, it connected on the first try.

      @@user-yz8jg5bs1g My issue was the devices would connect and then drop with "couldn't connect'. My router has the default 2.4 and 5ghz networks with the same names. Each of those wifi networks has different protocols. If you rename each network, you can select the one with protocols that match your device. In other words, I renamed my dual band network network from "myWifi" to "myWifi2.4" and "myWifi5", and then chose the 2.4ghz network for my device.

    What if I have a different internet like Kinetic? This is definitely my issue but don't have Comcast or xfinity. Both Roku and Kinetic techs were no help and blamed on each other. I have been working on 2 diff tvs for hours!!!🤬 Thank you for your kind help ❤

    Xfinity has stopped people from making these adjustments.
    Why am I no longer able to view/change some advanced settings?
    If you don't see the 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi settings (WiFi Mode, Channel Selection, and Channel Mode) in Advanced Settings, this means these settings are now being managed automatically to help optimize your home network and provide the best performance possible. Additionally, if you have xFi Pods, you won't see your 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi networks listed separately. Pods require that you only have one WiFi network name and password, so that all of your devices can seamlessly connect to the network that will provide the best WiFi signal at any given time.

Even though my IP is COX and their internet wifi settings are little different than Xfinity it was easy enough to find it and to fix/modify my 2.4G wifi in order for my Roku to finally connect!!     mine worked by charging my wifi password might be simpler for most people. my projector that has a roku on it randomly disconnected one day and wouldn’t connect back for the life of me i did all the restarts and factory settings even to my modem nothing worked even my other devices were still connected. i had been using my hotspot for a week and finally got tired of it. tried the password before going into the setting s and it connected immediately after i put the new one in hopefully helps someone else.

    THANK YOU! I just bookmarked the link to this video so I can come back to it if/when this problem occurs again. I spent a week futzing around with my roku, (and on their website) modem, hdmi cable, tv, etc and finally just bought a new Roku box. The one I had was less than a year old so I'm not happy about Roku failing to support their product by putting this solution on their website.
    Now, does anyone know why Roku has been auto-billing my credit card 4.95 a month? (they only have my cc# because I used it to purchase my last ROKU box directly from their website and did NOT consent to any subscriptions) Shape up, Roku or I'm gonna replace you with a Fire Stick .
