Have to keep in mind the 1st gen 3000gt has a very odd caliper setup on the front. It is very hard to find wheels that will fit the caliper as it is very close to the center. It has nothing to do with offset and everything to do with the shape of the wheel. Most 1st gen 3000gt will replace their calipers from a 2nd or 3rd gen so that it is easier to find wheels. The 2nd and 3rd gen have brake calipers that are much further from the center of the hub, making it much easier to find wheels that fit.

I don't know why someone doesn't just make "adapters" that simply extend the 1g calipers further from center and then all you would have to do is run 2g rotors. I mean, thats all they did with the 2g calipers anyways lol.

I’ve been doing copious amounts of research. And everything I’ve found, is telling by me that your 18 X 10.5 +30 with 275 tires should be too wide lol. Do you mind sharing what camber you are running? I’m looking into 18x10 +35 I feel like those should fit if you’re fitting 10.5 wide

I wasn’t able to test fit (parked outside, rainy day) and the shop I took it to tried to mount without testing them. They damaged the wheels and now I can’t return them 😭. I felt so defeated since this is my first sports car and my first set of wheels. Gonna work on selling these wheels before I look at another set
When I had my 2000 mustang with 95 year cobra wheels I got board and took them off and put them on my 3000gt and they fit and looked way nice but I sold the mustang with the wheels and always think about getting another set and putting them on my 3G.
I have a set of 18x8.5" rpf1s on my other 1g vr4 with 265 Michelin on it and they still weigh 50lbs each. The chrome 17" boat anchors that came off (with 245s) weighed 52lbs each. Wide tires come with a serious weight penalty, not ti mention getting assessed points by scca if you're running HPDE. 100% not worth it unless you just want style points.
@@MiguelDsm my other 1g vr4 (I have 2, both silver) has evo 10 brakes and a set of Drag brand knockoff wheels (came with the car) actually fit over the 1g brakes AND the evo X brakes. The rpf1s did NOT fit the 10 brakes (2 piece rotors) by at least 5mm, so they went on the other car. Also: they weigh 46lbs with 255 Falken rt615K tires. 8lbs x4 wheels is significant. Carbon fiber driveshaft on top of that is SIGNIFICANT. The 2 piece 14" rotors weigh something like 3lbs less than the 11.7" 1g vr4 rotors. The car FEELS light now 😁
The problem with 3/S wheels is that they need the lower offset usually unless you're going super wide. That's why mustang wheels are common budget options. Back in the day those saleen reps were super common, I wanna say they had a +20mm offset. That being said the conquest/starion SHP rears are +0mm
Also the reason why this is a problem is because if you look at the landscape, fwd or fwd based vehicles (aka most japanese vehicles) tend to have large offsets while rwd vehicles (german/usa mostly) tend to have low offset wheels. This is because structurally a 0 offset is ideal for the wheel (not the knuckle or hub but that's a different story) and packaging wise if you have a transverse engine the suspension gets pushed outboard more. Japanese manufacturers tend to stick to high offset when they make rwd cars now adays because they're just pulling stuff off the shelf. What that means is wheels from japanese aftermarket wheel suppliers like gram light tend to not make low offset wheels. And euro suppliers tend to not be 5x114.3.
I ran 19x9 +35 with 275/35 tires on front and I had to roll the fenders. On the rears, You can run very wide tires. Maybe even 12" wheels. but offset should be high.
7:45 In order to have the closest outside diameter he needed to run 285/30 in the back not 275. 275/30 are 0.99% smaller, and 1% is a LOT. a 285/30 is 0.08% smaller, that is pretty much as identical OD as possible.

I know my stock tires are 225 55r16.. but when I search wheels, options are like "18x8 +45mm off set" or like "17x8.5 +38mm offset" and I'm just like "???" LOL. anyone have suggestions ? tryna to keep mostly everything stock, I wouldn't mind changing tires if i need to but like the whole wheel size and the offset is so confusing to me.
