Hello egg and bread is when we dont have any money lol. Yes we eat heavy in the mornings. And we love porridge as well. Ackee can be eaten raw as well. Once it is open by the air and sun it is safe. You wont be poison by it. Most people eat it cooked but it can be eaten raw as well but most of us are afraid to consume it that way. Yes we walk and pick fruits from our neighbours trees once it hang on the outside lol. Nobody dies from starvation in Jamaica. Because if someone knocks on our gates and say they are hungry we give them something. Food or money but most times food. Because we dont want them to buy drugs with it if they seems off in the head.

Great vid. It's so cute how Miss Trudy and Wode Maya was fascinated yet apprehensive of collecting ackee. The name ackee comes from the Ghanaian Akan word: Akye Fufo. As you know ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica. However because of ackee being synonymous with Jamaica, even the ackee poisoning is named 'Jamaican Vomiting Sickness'.
    I'm glad you're loving Jamaican food/cuisine.👍😋

Seeing Jamaica breakfast, I am not surprised. West Africa as a whole, we love our heavy breakfast. It can be any food in the morning. Doesn't matter for us., Boiled yam , sweet potatoes boiled or fried, Rice, plantains boiled or fried, Green bananas boiled , fried cakes , baked bananas bread etc 😂. You don't have to eat lunch if you don't want to 😅 after good breakfast. We do give Plantain porridge to our babies, if you think the imported baby cereal is expensive for you. Matter of fact the plantain porridge is very healthy and rich in iron. Especially the country I am from, nothing on that is strange to me on that table, except the ackee fruit. 😅.

Let's tell them the correct way to pick ackee as a Jamaican born and still living in Jamaica..I grew up on ackee I had eleven trees in St Elizabeth, ackee must open naturally on it's own. The ackee carries an gas/ acid name stearic acid that's the skin can be also used for soap making. Again ackee can be eaten but it must be open on it own naturally..the breeze open ackee fast.Dont force open the ackee I personally love eat the ackee raw as it is.

This is not every house. Most folks don’t have time for all that in the mornings when they are rushing out for work and or school . Those who can afford it can do that spread on a Sunday morning. They are certainly being very kind and gracious hosts as that’s how we generally treat visitors. But that is NOT an everyday every household occurrence.

Actually, if you leave the closed ackee that has been taken from the tree to open, it’s all good. I do it all the time.
The main idea is to allow it to open by itself. DO NOT FORCE OPEN!
So you won’t be poisoned if you take it from the tree and it’s closed but you leave it for some time to open, it’s fine!

Hi friends...please relax and enjoy the Ackee- it is delicious. Have it with "Food": Steamed banana, dumpling and yellow yam. It is amazing. Jamaicans know how to prepare ackee so you dont have to worry about the toxins. Remember that Garri comes from cassava (which is also poisonous) but it feeds millions daily.
