I know Bose did UPP pricing for many years. They also would check your store if you displayed their product line exactly according their specifications. For the customer it was good because any dealer would have a working product to demonstrate and it wouldn’t matter where you bought it, it would be same price every where. Maybe the prices were artificially high, but if people buy it they think it’s worth it.
