I found a model 71 Beretta in an original box w/papers & 2 mags at a gun show 45 or so years ago and got it for $100.00. It has an adjustable rear sight (which I never had to adjust - it printed a dead center group @25yds.) The prior owner thought it was too ugly because the bluing on the frame didn't match the bluing on the slide- frame was a deep black and the slide had a purplish hue. The 71 is my favorite squirrel/rabbit gun. It has had several thousand rounds put through it and has NEVER jammed. It shoots best with Federal target grade .22s or similar .22 target lead solids -- it doesn't like hollow-points. It has never jammed with the hollow points but they just aren't as accurate as the lead solids. I've been deer hunting in Vinton County Ohio with the same group of guys for 25+ years and this little pistol has gone with me every year. I didn't get a deer every year but the group has always had squirrel meat on half of those hunts. At home there's probably still 10-15 rabbits in the freezer from the last season. The model 71 and my dad's old .22 Browning auto are my two favorite hunting guns. In my area, i have never seen another model 71 for sale. My wife and I each have a Ruger MK4 slab-sided .22 target pistols and routinely take them to the range where we routinely gather up as many unbroken clay birds from the trap range and then lay them out on the 50 and 100 yard hills and spend some time busting them up with the rugers. The mod. 71 can compete with Rugers on the 50 yard hill but not at 100 yards without a lot of luck and sandbags. As stated, I've never seen another mod. 71 for sale, but if I did or when I do- i'm going to buy it. It's a marvelous pistol.

I've never watched this channel before, but I'm subscribing based on the strength of this video. I loved the history and the style. Anyone who buys a gun can tell you "it shoots nicely", but I appreciate it more and get more enjoyment when I know the historical context in which it was used. Great job, these stories and characters were fascinating and make me appreciate the pistol as a historical weapon. Compact, quiet, easy to obtain ammunition for, and limited penetration for use within an airplane filled with passengers. It was a treat to have a interesting gun history lesson combined with a shooting demonstration. I like your sense of humor, too. Thank you for the video.
Did you survive the ending? Leave a comment w/o giving it away ;-) Honestly the best part of the video is the second half with "war stories" involving this Beretta .22 in multiple counter-terror operations 10:23 : 11:05 Operation Wrath of God - Mossad agents assassinate terrorists in Europe and the Middle East who were responsible for the Munich Terror Incident 13:55 El Al Flight 432 - How an Israeli Sky Marshal took on multiple terrorists with Kalashnikovs and explosives... while he only had a Beretta .22 (and came out victorious) 17:04 Sabena Flight 571 - The elite Sayeret Matkal special operations group takes on a plane of terrorists with firearms and explosives... while only having concealed Beretta .22's 20:04 the mad lad Mordechai Rahamim 14:23 the swiss police press conference footage clearly shows the Beretta model 71 that Mordechai Rahamim used:
Israeli small arms usage is really wild. I was there in 2012 and I remember seeing security guards with surplus M1 carbines and those weird pistol-carbine conversion kits that I’ve never seen anywhere else, and then regular soldiers with M4s and Tavors. I visited an IDF base and saw one soldier with a carbine built from an M16A1, some of the parts were completely in the white! I can’t imagine the stories that rifle could tell. It’s a beautiful country-and the falafel is amazing.
This was just one of the best videos...especially towards the end where he was telling the stories of the Israeli's agents blowing away terrorists. His quiet understatement was perfect.
Mordichai Rahamim , What a badass!, btw I'm israeli and when you said legendary Ehud Barak i giggled a bit because today in politics he's a bit of a meme but if we talk about military career standpoint i think you'e right!
@@9HoleReviews Ehud Barak is Israel's most decorated soldier. Up until the moment he became Chief of Staff, his career was exemplary. From that point on, including the Tze'elim catastrophe, and his political career, Barak has lost it. It is a shame.
I owned a 70S in .380 in the 1980's. I wanted a Model 71 as a training aid. I sold the .380 as my department didn't allow semi-auto for off duty carry at the time. I never did get that Model 71. I think I'll fix that mistake soon. Thanks for a great tribute to a great firearm.
A .22 has always been a favorite for stealth killing. From assassins to serial killers. It's a quiet round but the main reason is that long rifle ammo is hard to trace back to any given gun when ballistic forensics are involved.
In the early 80s I took my wife to a gun store to pick out her first pistol. She was immediately drawn to the Beretta Model 70 in .22 cal. I bought it for her and almost 40 years later it is still my favorite .22 pistol. It never has had 1 problem an it it very accurate and it's a blast to shoot. An exceptional firearm! PS- I own a lot of pistols and revolvers, many Rugers and Colts and this is the most reliable.
I bought the model 70s in the early 80s I still have it, shoots and looks like new. the only thing I did't like is that it only came with one magazine.
40 years ago I purchased a Beretta Mod. 70 and soon fired it off-hand using standard velocity Remington ammunition at a small paper target at 50 feet. I was stunned to find the pistol had put six into a small ragged hole, with two just outside of the group, all eight of which could almost be covered with a quarter. I never achieved any group before like that one, especially firing off hand. As far as I am concerned, the Beretta Model 70 is absolutely the most accurate .22 pistol, and my choice of a carry weapon.
I love your videos, more specifically, I love the rhythm and tempo of your presentation. There is no fast-paced staccato delivery, just a calm telling of the story. As a Brit I find a lot of the gun related videos from US RUclips channel go down the chaotic, breathless ‘hell yeah!!’ and ‘gnarly dude!!’ route which can get tiresome... lovely to find a channel that takes a slightly less relentless approach. As I said, I love this channel, all the best from over the water 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Wonderfully detailed, fact-based, and entertaining video, Mr. Chan. Thank you for spotlighting the classic Beretta Model 71 and its place in history! What is the difference between the Model 71 and the Model 70s, also chambered in .22LR and whose magazines contain 8-rounds. The weapons look to be identical, except I believe the 70S can not accommodate a silencer without some barrel work. Once again, very well done and much more a cinematic immersion than a typical YT video. Bravo!
Of my 3 ccw handguns.... one of them is a Beretta 21a 22lr. It is a primary carry and not a backup, been carrying it for over 30 years and even carried it in combat zones while I served in the military. They are nothing to snub your nose at as the 22lr is as lethal as virtually any other handgun round and mine has functioned more reliably than many center fire pistols I’ve owned. I considered the model 70 &71 but chose the 21a for its DA/SA action as the 70s are SA only. A well made, well maintained, .22lr loaded up with quality ammunition is a serious firearm.
I've been meaning to re-read Legionnaire ever since I got the Mas 49/56.The last time i read it was a decade ago when I was still in Paris, and it was so good that I think i finished it in a week!
Ive always been very interested in these stories. And impressed with the operators marksmanship and skill. While I'm not a fan of 22lr for defense when I hear people say it's completely useless I point the model 71 and some of these stories out. Thanks so much!
That intro honestly scared me. You’re extremely talented with firearms, I’ve seen you hit those long range targets with irons too. I’m glad your a Texan youtuber and not an assassin or terrorist

you clearly never heard Manc before. People in Leeds also speak very differently from Mancunians. Henry speaks educated non-regional English, much like American military speaks non-regional American English.
The .22 LR is easily the most underestimated cartridge in use, and one of the older as well. Because it is subsonic it's also effectively suppressed. At the ranch where I grew up there was a split cedar post about 4-inches by 4 inches (ca. 10 cm by 10 cm). There were a series of holes about 2 inches (50.8 mm) across down the center line of the post that were made shooting targets on the post from about 15 yards. The guns used were .22 revolvers and single-shot .22 rfiles using .22 LR. Twenty-twos are easy to shoot and more than adequately accurate at reasonable ranges.
I really liked the history that Henry brought out in this episode. Henry and Josh tell it like it is and I really like that. I hope they continue 9 hole reviews for a very long time. 2 thumbs up to these patriotic Americans !
When a pistol is pointed between your eyes, they _all_ seem .50 caliber. but I saw the pistol come up and thought, he's not someone to casually point the pistol at the camera...
As someone who has unfortunately seen a .38 from the barrel end...I heartily concur. .38 looked like an ICBM! Armored car personnel just can't take a joke...
There is a book called "Brotherhood of Warriors" by Aarron Cohen that touches on this. The book detail's his time in another special Israeli unit, but he gives a quick overview on how Sayeret Matkal (SM) uses blood relations for eligibility at the time. The gist being if you had a past relative who served in that unit your chances are relatively good of at least getting to tryout. If you are a someone who is Jewish and born outside of Israel and are a citizen your not getting in. If you were born in Israel but lack any previous family connections to SM your most likely not going get the opportunity based on what the book says. Keep in mind its been a long time since I've read it and I'm not from Israel so I might be miss remembering things or they might do things differently now.

I have one of these beautiful little handguns, mine is the earlier model with the crossbar safety as opposed to the thumb safety. Light, accurate, 100% reliable & beautifully made. Also easy to aim if you use both eyes & "superimpose" the handgun over the target.
I had one of these with the barrell internally tapped to accept a male/male adapter allowing a supressor to be used. It was really good fun for plinking and was quite reliable even with the can. Headshots at 10m were trivial to achieve - maybe 2-3 inch groups when fired deliberately. The gun went to the goverment in the Australia gov gun extortion ("buy back"), but I can't recall any issues using the sights with the can. The can was quite an old fashion suppressor from the 70s or so. Suppressors were legal before 1977, and still commonly owned and available after that time - mine was one from that time, IIRC it was only about 1" or so in diameter. The previous owner of mine was the RSPCA - our animal protection NGO. Apparently it was used o injured racehorces and wild dogs etc before I bought it.
Thank you for showing the truth and reality of life, and how dealing with terrorists must be done. People need to come back to understanding these realities, and quit watching “reality” tv.
Real history is more unbelievable than fiction. Too many are unaware. This was incredibly well done. Much respect for those who have opposed radical forces of evil. That sounds hyperbolic but they stand convicted by their own actions.
Spielberg got it wrong in that Munich scene for 1 reason...notably anti gun, therefore he inherently couldn't care less if the weapon in the scene was correct
And the movie carefully neglects to show that the Mossad killed an innocent Moroccan emigrant clerk by mistake in Norway, and in front of his wife. Should be more unbiased. Overall, not a great movie. And we must remember that - although it is no excuse - the Munich massacre was caused by the adamant opposition by Israel of the Palestinians having an Olympic team too...
@@duartesimoes508 Accidents happen. Like during the 7/7 Religion Of Peace slaughter, British police chased down some random kid from Brazil, and shot him in the face about a dozen times.
I believe Spielberg is a very big gun collector. He just might be of the typical east/west coast progressive mindset that HE/THEY can and should own guns but YOU/I shouldn't.
In the documentary 'Milius' (about Hollywood screenwriter John Milius, a notorious conservative in a very liberal industry), it's briefly mentioned that Spielberg is hardly 'anti-gun' at all.
Is Henry Chan the same gent that reviewed the Lee Enfield 303 rifle? An excellent review from a man that is an excellent shot. Secondly, the suppressed noise of the 22 Beretta is amazingly quiet. Not that I'm thinking of going into the assassin business or anything.
This is a Great Video and I wish all serious gun owners would watch this! Having said this, I have been a Glock user all my shooting life and I carried a G19 as my Duty Weapon for over 10 years up to my retirement in 2009. I never shot or carried a .22 handgun until last year and decided to do so because of the high prices for 9mm ammo and I'm glad I decided to purchase several .22LR handguns and a .22 rifle! I am now 78 years old and I have since sold or traded all my Glock 9mm handguns and I now own two Kel-Tec P17's, a CP33, a Beretta .22 Bob Cat and a Rossi RS22 Rifle. I did keep my Glock 48 but now my EDC is my P17 with a 17 round magazine & a spare, for self defense! Now at 78 years old, I have the utmost confidence for my self defense needs!
If you don't have suppressor-height sights, you're supposed to use the circle on the firing pin (where the hammer strikes) as your point of aim since it is in line with the barrel.
My Dad went to Vietnam in 1966. He used a "Target Master" .22 with a silencer. A .22 short round was very effective when you are out playing in the woods with your friends.

Leave a comment w/o giving it away ;-)
Honestly the best part of the video is the second half with "war stories" involving this Beretta .22 in multiple counter-terror operations 10:23 :
11:05 Operation Wrath of God - Mossad agents assassinate terrorists in Europe and the Middle East who were responsible for the Munich Terror Incident
13:55 El Al Flight 432 - How an Israeli Sky Marshal took on multiple terrorists with Kalashnikovs and explosives... while he only had a Beretta .22 (and came out victorious)
17:04 Sabena Flight 571 - The elite Sayeret Matkal special operations group takes on a plane of terrorists with firearms and explosives... while only having concealed Beretta .22's
20:04 the mad lad Mordechai Rahamim
14:23 the swiss police press conference footage clearly shows the Beretta model 71 that Mordechai Rahamim used:

Bravo gentleman. Bravo 👏🏼
Good stuff! Thanks.
Ps. I understand Russian. But you did not know that. That's how i survived.

Not only these guys a great channel....THEY ARE HISTORIANS...bravo on the documentary-style conclusion. The production was top-notch! Loved it!
That martial, what a legend. Your channel is turning into a new forgotten weapons channel.
This beauty is not forgotten! In some parts of Europe, still free of anti-gunism, is all the time well-beloved.

Well , the pistol is what it is , but the person wielding it is a well trained , lethal weapon. Perfect combination .
The way your talk and how you have such love for the firearm world it’s amazing. You made it a documentary more interesting
moral of the story..,. don't underestimate a 22
Or Israel.
Respect all firearms.
A .22 has always been a favorite for stealth killing. From assassins to serial killers. It's a quiet round but the main reason is that long rifle ammo is hard to trace back to any given gun when ballistic forensics are involved.
Yeah I did not perceive the 22LR as an assassin level caliber
And actually learn the difference between stopping power and killing power.
Yes I too purchased my 70s in .22 cal in the early 80s. Many thousands of rounds through it, & it is still my all time favorite .22 pistol.
I agree. Reliability is unsurpassed.
Finally someone admits that the 22 will do the job especially if you practice with it alot and you can with the price of 22 ammo
10:04 I had to pause to admire your books, Henry. Nice choices!
I've been meaning to re-read Legionnaire ever since I got the Mas 49/56.The last time i read it was a decade ago when I was still in Paris, and it was so good that I think i finished it in a week!

Mark Felton is a fraud.
@@ID-8491 A very bold and potentially libellous statement. What is your reasoning?
I love my 71, it was the first pistol I ever bought. Cool to learn some of the history.

It's kinda of amazing how 2 brothers ended up in the same elite unit and both got injured/killed in an counter terrorism operation
The youngest Netanyahu brother (Iddo) also served in the unit.
I had one of these in South Africa. Got a suppressor made for it. Totally loved it. Had subsonic rounds as well.

Bravo! What a great production and story!
Spielberg got it wrong in that Munich scene for 1 reason...notably anti gun, therefore he inherently couldn't care less if the weapon in the scene was correct
Or maybe....just maybe they didn't have such a gun at their disposal? 🤔

Realistically you're supposed to be close enough that you can press the silencer into your target's ribs when you pull the trigger
Very interesting video! I enjoyed it. The model 71 is definitely a great pistol. In my opinion, the Beretta model 87 is just as good.
