Yeah, i feel like 3 is an acceptable starting point if people are put off by 1 being kinda unfair and dickish. 3 still has some bullshit but it's where the formula really started to gel, and has a much better story than 4 imo, though 4's buster arm combos are very satisfying.

Also ignoring the artificial difficulty that's created by bad (more like forced due to being repurposed from a RE Game) design choices like CAMERA ANGLES and while souls has camera issues its mostly in ur control. That said DS1 blows compared to 3, and I personally prefer 2 over 1

Mostly because I'm *_still_* salty about them intentionally nerfing Poise -- hell, I ignore it in 2 and 1 'cause I play Fashionsouls style, but the fact that it only triggers on specific attacks, for specific weapons, attacks that are either useless, or useless-but-capable-of-one-shotting, makes me _actively avoid_ gear that I would otherwise use. Havel's Legs, in particular, are my favourite greaves in the entire franchise, but they're useless to the point of being nonviable in 3, just like the other heavy armours, for everything but damage resistance; and we all know how useless damage resistance is in Souls. People complain about having to waste points on ADP in 2 for something they think they should have; _I_ complain about having to waste points on END in 3 for something that _doesn't do its job anymore._ I suppose I checked on on 3 a little early, I'll admit, so I don't know that the meta PVP SL is, maybe it accounts for dumping points into END the same way 2's accounted for ADP. ...As a final note, while it is my favourite in the franchise and genre, I will fully accept that 2's Soul Memory system is complete dogshit.
The reason the puzzles feel like they are straight from Resident Evil is because they are, this was supposed to be resident evil 4 with a dude named Tony Redgrave who would have had bio-weapon powers but the game became more action packed and eventually into DMC 1
Yeah, the company got to a point where they looked at the game and went "this isn't resident evil" but they still loved the idea so they rolled with it, and now we have arguably the best hack and slash ever made
The game went too much into mystic/to far scy-fi, giving you powers, and it was no longer a RE. So they were gonna discard it, but to not waste so much work they pick what worked and made a new game with a more magic setting that fitted all better.
I'm aware that Drew Coombs was just holding back his laughter when voicing Dante's infamous line "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with liiiiight!" But he'd be perfect as Sparda to contrast from Reuben Langdon as Dante. 😏
Funny thing is, when the devs asked if Drew wanted to redo that scene due to the voice crack, he actually didn't want to do another take of that scene.
Imo more people should play older game. Its fun to start a series from the beginning and after every game you beat, you see how the games improved on everything and youre not lost following the plot. Like nowadays half our games that come out are LUCKY to stay within the next year, but not older games so whenever that happens you can always fall back to the finely aged wine of games of the past.
It was fun to watch someone else experience a dmc game without any real prior knowledge to what they were getting themselves into! That only happens once.
honestly at first i thought purple orbs were just temporary upgrades and to get permanent dt upgrades you had to do something else, at least i got blue orb fragments to help me understand that blue orbs were permanent upgrades

I just don't have that kind of patience haha. That being said, if you thought this game was goofy, just wait til you get to the third. Straight drippin' with style.

I don't understand why but I tried running away dozens of times and I swear to god those fireballs were locking on to me. I wouldn't even stop and somehow he would always be on my ass and destroying me with the fireball. I couldn't even jump to avoid them. After about a half hour of this, I just put the controller down and walked away. I swore that part was absolute bullshit until just recently and I accept that DMC 1 just isn't my game. I love the series but the first one is beyond my skill apparently.

I cant even count how many times i had to re-do entire missions and how many times i died for the most stupidest reasons and yet i still havent beaten it because im stuck on the mundus bossfight because of the stupid jumping around and parkours theyre so AWFUL in this game im really debating on just skipping and going straight to dmc3 because my patience is wearing OFF

dante is one of my favorite characters from video games, i loved these games when they came out, and his appearence in one of the best rpgs ever made (smt nocturne) made it even better... long live dante
To be fair the bosses are all generals or guardians of hell so when you kill them your only inconveniencing them untill Mundus gets tired of their failure. Plus DMC2 is the first game with facial animations because the guy who make the series was so annoyed that they couldn't figure out how to do that on the budget or time they had for the first game.
I experienced and got into DMC when I saw the triple pack for ps2 at a GameStop in like 2006. I blasted through all 3 in a week and became a massive fan. A couple years later I got a 360 with DMC 4 and maaaaaaann. Think I played DMC all through high school back then.
Dmc fans need to stop telling people to skip 2. Playthrough the normal difficulty 1 time to watch it because it does have some cool set pieces and the character designs are pretty cool. If Devil May Cry 2 was called Devil may cry case files or capcom gave it the code veronica treatment it wouldn’t be so reviled.

Actually, the real order is: Read the Manga for 3 (though it never truly got finished), play 3, play 1, watch the Anime series (not the Netflix one once it comes out, I don't know where that fits, if it fits at all), read the novel for 2, watch all the cutscenes/read the story for 2, play 4 (if you want, if not, watch the cutscenes), read Visions of V (though wait until certain parts of DMC 5 before continuing), read Before the Nightmare, and finally, play DMC 5.
Skip 2... but 3 special edition is absolutely fantastic. Easily one of my top games of all time along with Castlevania SotN and Freelancer. Playing as the special feature character is a blast too.
As far as anyone is concerned, 2 doesn't even exist in the series history. Nothing in it is ever mentioned, in 4 or 5. Not to mention Lucia is gone with it. So yeah, 2 is good to just skip because it has no bearing on the story.
@@Maniacman2030 I agree with most of the things you said, but it is mentioned in the DMC V: Before the nightmare novel (which is canon), where Dante returns to the island and meets Lucia again. In the same novel it is also explained how he managed to get out of hell after DMC2.
Fun fact the north American version of this game is by far the hardest. For some reason the devs here thought if would be a fun idea 💡 to double the damage output of all enemies while also cutting the damage Dante does in half. So if you played the north American version it is indeed hard as fuck.

Weird to think Devil May Cry and Haunting Ground developed from early builds of Resident Evil 4. It certainly shows in the gothic castle designs and escape scene at the end with exploding island is very Resi 4.

Play the second at your own peril. I got into the series last year playing 1, 2 and 3. Liked the first game, loved the third game but the second bit me in the balls and killed my dog, it was just bad and somewhat depressing to play just a slog to get through

There is no soul reaver 3, there's soul reaver then soul reaver 2 and those are followed up by Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

Skipped all the games and went straight to DMC5. I have no regrets
