Honestly this game's soundtrack is WAY better than you'd expect considering the development hell it went through (10:34 ignore Arius breaking down, just listen to the music)
i agree that the themes atmosphere and ost has some interesting pieces. at this time period a lot of japanease media was set on using european architecture and cathedrals as setting for demonic or evil themes like the anime monster or devil may cry 1. the gameplay and story suck but dante's design and the neo gothic atmosphere is nostalgic
Thank you for spending time on the exploding house. That shit is literally so funny to me, it makes no sense, isn't explained, and is never mentioned again. Also gotta love how Dante teleports into Arius office, defeats him, jumps out the window with Lucia and then flies across half the globe for some reason, with the next three missions having you returning to the exact room you were just in (the story stuff is in Lucia's campaign I think. Her being created by Arius (so she's basically Trish 2), but eh)
Woa woa there cowboy don't you DARE disrespect my girl Trish like that! Plus, This literally was the only game (until DMC4SE) that you were actually able to play as her! Lady was technically the only special edition to 4SE (which I was so so excited for) since shes technically a port-over (with additional moveset ofc) from this game! It's crazy to think lol And if you want even deeper lore, "sin devil trigger" (or SDT) from 5 is so dam close to Majin. Only real big difference is the awesome elbow needles, but basically the same concept, right down to a similar design too. Like they brought back Majin but injected it with awesomeness and gave it a refillable bar 🤭🤦🎮💯
I thought the explosion was mildly explained? Wasn't it something like they were trying to kill the last protector of the island/ritual item things? I swear it was mentioned, unless I know this because I've also read like all dmc novels etc or something. Side note, it's not like dmc1 had much dialogue or cut scenes or story either lol
@@Cornelius9013 Sorry but I really don't like Trish. I think her story is incredibly underwritten and she hasn't been allowed to do hardly anything interesting so far. The fact that her movesets in both in 2 and 4SE (Granted, I haven't played her in 2 before) are 95% just reused Dante animations doesn't help. Especially since Sparda had such interesting potential, but it literally never got to be anything much more than a minor animation flourish on stuff like million stab and round trip. Playable Trish was the place to expand on it and come up with something unique that uses the transforming stuff, but they just didn't, and now the Sparda sword is all gone cuz of DSD. It's really lame. And I know about Majin of course. It's cool. Needless to say though, I think Sin DT is way cooler, and the way it is activated and controls is much better handled. All the good ideas 2 introduced to the series I am grateful for
@@boicer11 It might have been some kinda supplementary material, cuz I am pretty sure granny just goes "they really made a big mess, didn't they?" and then it wasn't acknowledged any further. And I guess you're maybe right, but the way in which it happens it still so hilariously random and out of nowhere. Agreed on 1's lack of an actual narrative btw. I don't think any DMC besides 3 has much of a worthwhile story lol. Love the games tho
@DestinySpider yeah idk i have a bunch of random jumbled dmc info from when I played them all and read all the extra stuff i could find. Maybe it was even from playing Lucia's side of the story. I just remember having a better understanding of DMC2 than people here are saying, but I don't remember how lol. Yeah, they all have issues with story. Even DMC5 explains like nothing of a certain character returning (trying to be vague in case people still really don't know and would be mad at me about a spoiler) but then sort of explains some stuff with a tie in manga. But agreed love them and the gameplay anyways. Even DMC2 has a special place for me.
that coin in the start of the game Arius wants it and other objects to become more powerful and dante and lucia gathered them before arius gets them all also there was a underground stairs beneath the house that's how the old lady survived and u can see her waking up the stairs strangely i enjoyed this game
DMC2 was the game that taught me to always wait for reviews, even if the game is a sequel to a game you absolutely loved. The best part is that the secret character Trish, who just has the the DMC1 moveset ported to her, is the most fun part of the game. Could've just went with that again!
If you wanna get into Devil May Cry with training wheels, play DMC2. If you want the full experience, play 3 onwards, but if you want to be really challenged, play DMC1; it doesn't have the mechanics of its sequels and feels the most like a proof-of-concept.
I got into the series without knowing anything, and I actually loved the movement in this game. Though incredibly incomplete, I definitely enjoyed this game 😁
It's a shame the game was so butchered and patched together by final release cause you can see the skeleton of something truly cool. The extra acrobatics and expanded gun combat was great it's just a shame it's the only correct form of engagement. The soundtrack still manages to be good. Drip Dante is as alive as ever even if his character seems asleep at the wheel at times. Maijin DT was cool but the circumstances to use it really brought it down, I hope it comes back as a more conventional mechanic later down the line :^) Lucia deserves to be in a good DMC game so she can be a better character. "King? Yeah... Here's your crown" Mah boy finally woke up! I'm looking forward to your DMC 3 video because boooooy is there a lot to unpack with it.
Majin technically does come back (almost frighteningly close to the same) in DMC 5 so, technically you are right lol But out of all the games, this was probably one of the coolest forms. Also this game paved the entire way for the stylish movement and acrobatic controls we got in DMC 3 not to mention I personally feel this was one of the coolest outfits Dante ever had, and such a shame how they rehashed and reused almost all of the other costumes in almost every single game, EXCEPT for this one. The only one that is consistently been modded and not officially brought over in a special version of any of the number series 😮💨🤦🤷 Flight, give us some kind of DLC that gives us this costume or something! They included DMC1 Dante in the rebooted universe even (in the definitive Edition) So I hope like hell if they end up doing a sequel to the reboot, they include this costume as DLC or something. Damn it, I want drip Dante! Lol 🤦🎮🕹️💯
Devil May Cry 2 has such a large emphasis on gunplay because Capcom overcorrected based on criticism the first game received; that it was too hard (it has its occasionally rough moments, but the game greatly rewards pacing yourself and looking for ideal openings, and once you realize it, the game opens up immediately) and that mixing gunplay with your primary weapon was too confusing. It doesn't help that the enemy AI is practically braindead; whether it was intentional or not doesn't matter.
@@AluminumFusion22 Yea, DMC1 in particular relies more on exploiting the enemy's opening, it's hard to just button mash in that game which is why people complained about difficulty
I know most of people hate 2 cause the poor story and gameplay and i totally agree they did fcked up in it but seeing Dante depressed and serious is something rare actually cause 2 takes event after he released he k*lled his brother for real this time and that trauma haunted him to the point he stopped mocking enemies and bosses and just finish them off So best thing so far in this game for me Dante's personality and clothes And final Boss Argosax he really made me try
You know i also did not heed the warnings and played dmc2. So I can say that you really did condense the experience beautifully. Every important bit is here, namely the incredible voice acting
Honestly i love dmc 2 alot it was my fav tbh i think its the personality change makes sence considerin this is right after his brothers death n hes in his 30s
I loved Dante's animations in DMC2. That's it. Also the secret missions broke me when I realised There is a different set of them for every difficulty, but they arent set in stone, only the order you do them in. So I was left with the harder secret missions in DMD mode when I realised I could have waited and used DMD mode for the easiest secret missions.
It was my first dmc game, I was eight at the time, and totally fucking loved it. It got me into hack and slash games. I have since developed more taste, but it's still awesome.
I decided to go on a journey to beat all the stories in DMC. I break my vow for DMC 2, because I don't think I'm strong enough to endure Lucia's story.
As bad as this game was i really liked Lucia and she could have been better if they actually had ppl knowing what they were doing at the start, as for Arius he little cry at 10:34 has always lived rent free in my head since back then. Id really love to see him Remake this game and bring Lucia back and better
I only had experience with the DMC series via my copy of DMC2 for PS2 that I got at SOME point in my younger years, i really don't remember when i got it, but my first memories of it are playing it around age 11. That would have been around 2004-2005. I loved it honestly. I never once payed attention to the story even a little bit, but some of the cutscenes were really cool with their visuals and then devil trigger was like a combination of Inuyasha and Dragonball Z to my young mind. I dont think ever made it more than an hour or 2 into the second disc, and then i completely dropped it. But by means of nostalgia, i appreciate it anyway. I played 3 some later on. Like 8 years later i think, and i liked it enough to play all of 2 missions (good game, just had way more games id rather have played) and actually i got DMC5 for my PS5 maybe a month ago... Ive got an hour in it... I havent played the series much if its not obvious by now, but i never knew part 2 was supposedly bad, its funny to me that since it was the only DMC game i put any real time in, i consider it the best by default
Man I loved all of them and I will forever be a die hard DMC player ever. The third was very nice especially when you put a code in to have unlimited demon time.
You need to do waaaaaaaaaay more videos like these. The honesty and comedic setting is brilliant. I’m currently playing through all of them again. Haven’t touched them since the good ole PS2 and PSX days. I wonder if I’ll give DMC 2 a try or skip it. I’ll toss a coin.
The elevator music playing, while you prattled on about elevators, while also, I got to watch Dante deal with elevator arena portion of the game, earned you a sub.
Devil May Cry 2 had some good ideas (most of which were thankfully brought over to later games), and Lucia is a better character in Disc 2 than what she seems like in Disc 1. That said, yeah, pretty much everything you said is pretty much correct. It suffers in extreme amounts of poor execution. I do not envy the team that were practically forced to make the game, or Itsuno who had to go in and make it FUNCTIONAL (btw, this isn't the first time he ends up doing this in the franchise. The second time he did so was when the reboot was being made)
Playing this game was like a fever dream. Only thing I remember was that all you had to do was spam your guns and you basically can clear the entire game that way
I'm glad you played this game instead of skipping it like a bunch of other content creators do, it's definitely the worst devil may cry and has problems but I like it and enjoy it and I feel like it gets shit on more than it really deserves
I unironically really like the second game, everyone saying it sucks arent wrong really, but that doesnt mean you should never play it. Dmc 2 its a solid game on its own, sure its kinda goofy and a little boring at times, but its not the worst game ive ever played and some bossfights are pretty good (infested chopper tho... absolutely not) it also has my favourite (visual) design of dante out of the series, and the level designs (even if they are way too big) are pretty cool too. Overall dmc 2 is definitely the "pimple faced puberty" of the series but without 2, we wouldnt have 3, which is hands-down the best in the series. So it served one purpose at least
If you're someone who's new to the series. You should always at the very least play through 60% of DMC2. Why? Just for the sake of playing every game in the series, but also most importantly to make your experience when you jump to DMC3 three times more exciting seeing how everything just did a complete 180.
@@gibleyman oml yes i completely agree. id played 3 and 1 in the past when i was a kid so i kinda knew what to expect, but since i played them again recently in chronological order this time the switch from 2 to 3 felt amazing.

i remember beating dmc2 but no idea what the story or that chick were all about. i like the fact that you got a lot of skill without unlocking them like double jump.
there's only 2 good things about dmc2: the music is pretty good, and it's the game that introduced Dante's iconic "Rebellion" sword. otherwise, it's easily one of the worst gaming experiences I've ever had, and I literally thought to myself "I'm glad I never have to play another second of that" after finishing it. That's not a thought anyone should have about anything that's supposed to exist for entertainment, especially in a game series that is otherwise beloved. I've heard the story described as having the feel of "Dante just got back home from a 20 hour shift and realised he has no food in the apartment, so he has to force himself to leave and go get food". the stakes are so low and he has so little energy that this analogy honestly feels fitting
I don't dare what anyone says. OG DMC 1 fan here and I love DMC2. It's got its own flavour, a great soundtrack, and there's something about it that if remade and corrected a bit, would be an 10/10 game.
I need to also add that unlocking Trish and DMC1 Dante did very much improve the enjoyment of the game. If you haven't done this and are a DMC fan... You should do at least that. Pretty slick.
If DMC 6 ever comes out, I hope Lucia appears in a cameo and Dante just says “Stay away from me; last time I met you, you drugged me.” Meaning DMC2 was all just one bad hallucination.
This was always a weird thing for me. DMC2 was my first when I was young and I really liked it. Unfortunately it set my expectations wrong and although I played them I could never get into the other games for awhile because to me, I was like why is Dante making all these quips and being kinda goofy at times? Why’d they change his character? 😂
The best thing about DMC2 is that it forced Capcom to course correct into DMC3.

(10:34 ignore Arius breaking down, just listen to the music)
i agree that the themes atmosphere and ost has some interesting pieces. at this time period a lot of japanease media was set on using european architecture and cathedrals as setting for demonic or evil themes like the anime monster or devil may cry 1. the gameplay and story suck but dante's design and the neo gothic atmosphere is nostalgic
That song is called Chaotic Gloria if anyone is wondering
@@ldkWhatToWriteHere yeah, see? even the name goes hard
5:44 you have triggered a deep trauma in my mind with this part of the game
Thank you for spending time on the exploding house.
That shit is literally so funny to me, it makes no sense, isn't explained, and is never mentioned again.
Also gotta love how Dante teleports into Arius office, defeats him, jumps out the window with Lucia and then flies across half the globe for some reason, with the next three missions having you returning to the exact room you were just in
(the story stuff is in Lucia's campaign I think.
It's crazy to think lol
And if you want even deeper lore, "sin devil trigger" (or SDT) from 5 is so dam close to Majin.
Even DMC2 has a special place for me.
that coin in the start of the game Arius wants it and other objects to become more powerful and dante and lucia gathered them before arius gets them all also there was a underground stairs beneath the house that's how the old lady survived and u can see her waking up the stairs
strangely i enjoyed this game
DMC2 was the game that taught me to always wait for reviews, even if the game is a sequel to a game you absolutely loved. The best part is that the secret character Trish, who just has the the DMC1 moveset ported to her, is the most fun part of the game. Could've just went with that again!
The best thing about DMC2 is that in the end Dante manages to drive all the way into SMT3 Nocturne.
DMC 2 introduced me to the world of Dante so no matter what it’s in my heart
Same
If you wanna get into Devil May Cry with training wheels, play DMC2. If you want the full experience, play 3 onwards, but if you want to be really challenged, play DMC1; it doesn't have the mechanics of its sequels and feels the most like a proof-of-concept.
Real Men don't skip DMC2
The Soundtrack makes me want to play it
True men also play Lucia for EVERY BIT OF LORE
Suffering brings forth true strength
and the reboot banger ost
@@_Tzer the reboot in a nutshell “Decent gameplay, nice (good) music, they have massacred my boy”
I got into the series without knowing anything, and I actually loved the movement in this game. Though incredibly incomplete, I definitely enjoyed this game 😁
This game gave us Desperation Devil Trigger, the ultimate devil trigger of all devil triggers.
Maijin DT was cool but the circumstances to use it really brought it down, I hope it comes back as a more conventional mechanic later down the line :^)
Lucia deserves to be in a good DMC game so she can be a better character.
"King?
The only one that is consistently been modded and not officially brought over in a special version of any of the number series 😮💨🤦🤷
Flight, give us some kind of DLC that gives us this costume or something!
Everybody told him not to play dmc2 he didn't listen.
He is just doing for fun, let him be.....
Who is everybody?
I live for your videos, this is what I look forward to every single day anticipating an upload
I know most of people hate 2 cause the poor story and gameplay and i totally agree they did fcked up in it but seeing Dante depressed and serious is something rare actually cause 2 takes event after he released he k*lled his brother for real this time and that trauma haunted him to the point he stopped mocking enemies and bosses and just finish them off
So best thing so far in this game for me
Dante's personality and clothes
And final Boss Argosax he really made me try
Me personally i like how running up the walls and shooting the guns and being upside down with it.
I like how the run time of this video compared to the others dmc videos this is the shortest, its basically 'the less we talk about it the better '
You know i also did not heed the warnings and played dmc2. So I can say that you really did condense the experience beautifully. Every important bit is here, namely the incredible voice acting
Arius’s lines and voice acting are hilarious.
Thats the age I was when I enjoyed it 2 😂
1) I'm obsessed with just rewatching this dmc playlist it's become my go-to "good vibes videos"
2) I'm so glad Arius is getting the love he deserves
I decided to go on a journey to beat all the stories in DMC. I break my vow for DMC 2, because I don't think I'm strong enough to endure Lucia's story.
Thanks for playing DMc2 for me. My health and family sure appreciated me being around longer.
Dmc2 is what under the mayo thinks gameplay in stylish games should be
Best thing you can say about DMC2, is it gave us the sticker on the SMT4: Nocturne box that says: Featuring Dante from DMC2!
Nocturne is game number 3, not 4
As bad as this game was i really liked Lucia and she could have been better if they actually had ppl knowing what they were doing at the start, as for Arius he little cry at 10:34 has always lived rent free in my head since back then. Id really love to see him Remake this game and bring Lucia back and better
DMC2 really was the blueprint for where Itsuno went with the franchise.
0:38 Bro chose to REBEL, by playing the game that introduced the REBELLION as Dante's signature sword. 😆
Tbh, I had unironic fun with DMC2 and I will die on this Hill
The quality of these videos is insane for not many subscribers
I like 2… Ooh except for the level with the tanks and helicopter boss. Fuck that level with steel wool.
Man I loved all of them and I will forever be a die hard DMC player ever. The third was very nice especially when you put a code in to have unlimited demon time.
I actually liked 2. Dante's look in 2 is my favorite as well.
Hey, I made into the video. I feel so fulfilled.
We Definitely need a complete Remake of DMC 2 with a Few DMC1 to DMC3 fixes.
cyan man, you MUST play DMC3. It's a divine game
"Your hate for me is DIVINE."
Vergil is messaging you now
Play DMC3 so you can feel the motivation and make sure you wouldn't get easy mode
Say what you will about DMC 2... one thing is for sure though, THIS IS THE BEST LOOKING DANTE TO DATE. The best design EVER.
Agreed, that's like one of the 3 things I like about this game.
1) Dante's 2 Drip
2) The Soundtrack
3) It lead to DMC3
TBH, I prefer 2 to 3 in general.
I actually like DMC4 Dante design
hell naw
The elevator music playing, while you prattled on about elevators, while also, I got to watch Dante deal with elevator arena portion of the game, earned you a sub.
I actually like DmC 2.
It was fun playing as a kid.
Blazing my guns.
Easy combos.
Feeling like a badass!!!
I genuinely enjoyed this video from start to finish ahah good shit man
Devil May Cry 2 had some good ideas (most of which were thankfully brought over to later games), and Lucia is a better character in Disc 2 than what she seems like in Disc 1.
The second time he did so was when the reboot was being made)
This video is one of the best parts of my playthrough of DMC2 years ago!
True gamers don't skip Devil May Cry 2.
Yes we do. Sh*t was trash. True gamers call a spade a spade even if it hurts to say it or not mention it at all.
Context you gotta play Lucia for the context.
Yes you have to play as the short side story for context
I will never forget when my bro came home with dmc2 and I was in shock at how much it sucked because I loved the first game.
I like part 2 more
I absolutely amazed that i found this gem of a channel ❤...now make dmc 3 please
One of the games of all time
I’m not sure what you were going for here but I’ve never wanted to play a game more in my life
Ok but the plane is actually hilarious and i think it wouldve worked so much better in another game lol
I couldn't find this video even after searching for it. I thought this video didn't exist until RUclips recommended it to me accidentally I presume
Dmc 2 deserve a remake
💯
Really interesting that while I watch these videos I get a steam notification to say that the collection is on sale
Sloths are really strong swimmers though!
Playing this game was like a fever dream. Only thing I remember was that all you had to do was spam your guns and you basically can clear the entire game that way
I'm glad you played this game instead of skipping it like a bunch of other content creators do, it's definitely the worst devil may cry and has problems but I like it and enjoy it and I feel like it gets shit on more than it really deserves
dont forget to play Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne; featuring Dante from Devil May Cry!
Anyone: "I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed."
Me: "Really? Because I'm fucking livid."
I unironically really like the second game, everyone saying it sucks arent wrong really, but that doesnt mean you should never play it. Dmc 2 its a solid game on its own, sure its kinda goofy and a little boring at times, but its not the worst game ive ever played and some bossfights are pretty good (infested chopper tho... absolutely not)
it also has my favourite (visual) design of dante out of the series, and the level designs (even if they are way too big) are pretty cool too.
WELCOME TO THE DEVIL MAY CRY FRANCHISEi hope you'll enjoy your stay in our little party cause youre going in a crazy one that you never want to end enjoy your stay
fuck everyone dmc2 was my childhood game and i still occasionally come back to it
I loved it
i remember beating dmc2 but no idea what the story or that chick were all about. i like the fact that you got a lot of skill without unlocking them like double jump.
"The seconed game bit me in the ballz and killed my dog"☠
Now DMC3, go go go, THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR (YES, THIS IS A REFERENCE)
11:55 clearly, the demon possessed the knowledge that it was in DMC2 and chose death
infested chopper my beloved 🥰
there's only 2 good things about dmc2: the music is pretty good, and it's the game that introduced Dante's iconic "Rebellion" sword.
otherwise, it's easily one of the worst gaming experiences I've ever had, and I literally thought to myself "I'm glad I never have to play another second of that" after finishing it.
DMC 2 had the best visual design for Dante I think tho. He’s really cool lookin. That’s why I got it lol.
Dmc2 is the first game I beat like period, and I love it, it’s matrix af.
IF YOU SKIP THE SECOND THEN YOU ARE NOT A TRUE DMC FAN
man makes devil may cry content instant subbed :p
I don't dare what anyone says. OG DMC 1 fan here and I love DMC2. It's got its own flavour, a great soundtrack, and there's something about it that if remade and corrected a bit, would be an 10/10 game.
I need to also add that unlocking Trish and DMC1 Dante did very much improve the enjoyment of the game. If you haven't done this and are a DMC fan... You should do at least that. Pretty slick.
If DMC 6 ever comes out, I hope Lucia appears in a cameo and Dante just says “Stay away from me; last time I met you, you drugged me.” Meaning DMC2 was all just one bad hallucination.
the cool detail about the coin is that both sides are the same so whenever dante flips it he already knows what side its gonna land on
Those elevator facts were genuinely interesting, btw
Romans always are ahead of their time
This was always a weird thing for me. DMC2 was my first when I was young and I really liked it. Unfortunately it set my expectations wrong and although I played them I could never get into the other games for awhile because to me, I was like why is Dante making all these quips and being kinda goofy at times? Why’d they change his character? 😂
Had to like the video after that elegant and informative section on elevators. Bravo sir.
i love your video, you deserve more subscribers.
Thanks to your video, i finally know, where rebelion sword came from.
