Good to know someone else actually LIKES the look of poplar when it's just oiled or lacquered. Nice to see the old saw back. I actually watched an old vid of yours where you used that saw to make something else. Good times.
Love it! Love the contrast too. Your daughter has great taste in colors. Matches her workbench. Hopefully it keeps inspiring her, and us! We could all take a page from her book!
Thank you for sharing this awesome bandsaw box with us. Love the none painted areas. Sure your daughter will love it. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
From the thumbnail I thought “Poor Jay… His box cracked!” 😂 That is so cool. She will LOVE it! So unique and so cool. Great build, Jay. Merry Christmas!
I love these. And the process looks fun, because, you know… everyone loves copious amount of sanding! But, the smile on your daughter’s face will make it all worth it! ❤
Looks great, beautifully done! You’re right, of course, re finishing the non-face parts of the drawers with Danish oil instead of painting them. Especially true re the crack. Otherwise, the crack wouldn’t look so much like a crack in the box. For the OCD amongst us, a thought re the drawers’ gaps. They’d be more even, and the drawers would have a floating effect, if you glued some durable, slightly less than kerf-thick, strips to their bottoms and sides (stopping short of their fronts). Make them out of waxed leather, Teflon, wood, whatever works best for you.
It was actually Matthew Peech who designed it. He has a build video of the full size version on his channel. For anyone who’s interested. Awesome job making a miniature version!
Looks great. I want to make a couple for our granddaughters , so this is the video I will use to do them. I really appreciate your videos and your expertise in making projects. How about our Lions Jay? On to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. Go Lions.
EE OR... That's Donkey talk for a Great Job. I'm sure she will be all giggles and laughter on the morning. Now of course she will need the jewellery to fill it. Have you looked up the address for Tiffany's? Because only best will do for your little Sweet Heart. Merry Christmas to you and the Family Jay. 🎅😁
It’s a cute design that I can see kids loving! I personally wouldn’t have painted, maybe stained it a color to still show the grain it it’s precious and I love that you kept the poplar exposed in the drawers and in the crack.
Just want to say I really appreciate your voice overs. Most people do this weird whisper voice and it drives me crazy!!! Thanks for "just talking" lol.
Jay, did you ever consider us8ng a small round over bit for the drawer edges and their matching sections in the body? It seems that might be easier than sanding them.
Jay, each and every single time I see this exact shape of bandsaw box the ONLY thing that I think about is the movie " Beauty and The Beast!". It alway's reminds me of the talking furniture from the movie 😊. I think that we can say for sure that the original person who did the design for this bandsaw box was also thinking about that very same movie 😊. As for your daughter I think that this set of draws and the workbench are going to blow💥 her mind. Definitely going to be a Christmas to remember for you all 😊. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
I've seen a full sized version of this box in Matthew Peech's shop. Always curious how he did it. Now....well I still don't know. But...this is a super-cool project! I enjoy the way you work...steps and processes very much like I think and work. I like the way you explain things as though I was there...never talking down to me, but simply walking me through the process.
I recently added a laguna 1412 in my shop and have been playing around with some of the fun things a bandsaw can allow you to make. I originally only wanted the bandsaw to do some resawing, but I'm loving the boxes I can build now. Thanks for a well timed video and I will be building one of these for my daughter soon.
Your daughter will love it, especially being blue. Great way to reassess your "unpractised" bandsaw skills, though as an architect, I'd have like to have seen the drawpulls to the split drawers, split at the edge of the crack, not pulled back, but each to their own.
love it looks great but if it was to have had split open shouldn't the knobs have been originally been one piece and split with the drawers too. that would be a cool look a neat touch too
Do you know of any other clamp companies that have that style of handle? I'm disabled and my grip is crud so those would be handy... except I can't find them in the UK
I would like to know what 1/8 inch blade you are using? The blade I have smokes a lot I don't remember what brand it is but it's either a Highland woodworking or timberwolf. Pretty sure there would be no way of getting through anything over 2 inches without leaving nothing but burn marks
Do you have any challenges getting the 1/8" blade to track properly on your saw? I have a Rikon 305 10" and any blade under 3/8" seems to be a pain to tension and track properly. I get it eventually, but it may take me 30 mins to an hour.
What’s the width of the band saw blade you used in cutting the cracked band saw box? Also, could let me know where you found the design for it? I’ve been following you for several years, and I really admire your style and content.
I think it is a great job but the more important thing is the f you are happy how it turned out but the most important thing is what your daughter thinks about. I think the smile will be big
The handles on the cracked drawers have to be to the edge of the crack, please correct that on the future build, cheers from Toronto Canada!!! Great project thou
thank you Jay. what was the tooth count on the 1/8 " bandsaw blade you used? oh the wife heard you say no you do not need a second bandsaw yes i do lol .
I can picture how many years later, a friend will inevitably ask your daughter how her Dad crafted such a beautiful gift... and she'll likely respond, "My dad made it with love."
Good to know someone else actually LIKES the look of poplar when it's just oiled or lacquered. Nice to see the old saw back. I actually watched an old vid of yours where you used that saw to make something else. Good times.
Super cool! Love the Domino pulls too.
very nice, your daughter will be very happy about it 👍
I love it.... great job.... never made a bandsaw box...I want to try to make this one.
Great project. The only addition I would have made would be shims to fit under the drawers, since the sanding took away some of the fit
Sehr cool, da freut sich eure Kleine!👍✌
That is the coolest gift. I know she'll love it. You're an awesome dad to be sure. Don't stop being you Jay ✌️
Your daughter will treasure that forever.
Love it!
Love the contrast too. Your daughter has great taste in colors. Matches her workbench. Hopefully it keeps inspiring her, and us! We could all take a page from her book!

This looks like something pulled from a cartoon or movie. It's fabulous.
She is a very lucky little girl her daddy is so creative.
I love these. And the process looks fun, because, you know… everyone loves copious amount of sanding!
But, the smile on your daughter’s face will make it all worth it! ❤
Jay, beautiful band saw box. It was a delight watching cutting the drawers out at the 7:00 mark 👍😁
I honestly think it’s beautiful
Nice, surprised that there was barely any sanding in this project too!
Great tutorial! I've always wanted to make one of these, and one day when I get an adult sized band saw, I'm going to tackle one. Thanks Jay.

I think the original design belong to Judson Beaumount. He has passed away but used to run a company called Straight Line Design.
@@rlamarchyeah I think you're right. I really a really similar design done by him
Great job. I've made many of these...
merry Xmas to your daughter! Nice, fun build
Going to make some
Bonjour, super travail, super résultat 👏👏👏👏
Looks great. I want to make a couple for our granddaughters , so this is the video I will use to do them. I really appreciate your videos and your expertise in making projects. How about our Lions Jay? On to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. Go Lions.
Its a great looking bandsaw box. Glad there wasnt too much sanding to do.

Hi Jay, I’ll just bet the look on your beautiful daughter’s face will be fantastic. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Awesome! A fun future family heirloom
Looks great. Nice little twist on the cracked bandsaw box
Nice departure at christmas, and I, like the colour
It’s a cute design that I can see kids loving! I personally wouldn’t have painted, maybe stained it a color to still show the grain it it’s precious and I love that you kept the poplar exposed in the drawers and in the crack.
I really like the look of that, I'm sure your daughter will love it.

YESSSS!!!!!! I say, all the time, "a cheater pipe, is NOT for extra torque, it's to get the same torque, out of less effort"!
Super project. Nice instructional video, too!
Very nice. Thanks for all the tips and instructions.
That's a fun design
I remember when you got that bandsaw.
Great project, like the color
Gorgeous project and great for your daughter. Makes me think about trying to build one meself..
Great project!
I have the same bandsaw, just finished restoring it also.
Nice build there Sr and have a great day with your family 🎉
I found it!
Really cool drawer indeed
Thanks for sharing.
Hand made gifts are always a great treasure. I'm sure she will have it for years to come. Merry Christmas
Time flies Jay!
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
A great gift for your sweet daughter.
cool
Love it, Jay!
Jay, did you ever consider us8ng a small round over bit for the drawer edges and their matching sections in the body? It seems that might be easier than sanding them.
Looks really neat, a bit lonely though, needs more cracked furniture to go with it 😆
What? I watched the original video last week :D. I specifically looked for it, because I wanted make a bandsaw box for christmas
I am in the process of making the same box
Very cute
Love this Jay…thanks for sharing
Cool project, I'm definitely going to give it a go 👍thanks Jay

I believe Mathew Peech has “plans for the hands” in his Etsy shop for the cracked dresser build. I’ll check and come back and edit.
He has a 9 minute video of the build 2 years ago. Search “Mad Hatter Dresser” and it pops up
I love it!
Great project, it looks awesome.
It's classy cool
cute
Very cool, Jay~! Love the use of Dominos for the drawer pulls. Very creative~! Big fan of the blue.
very nice!
Love it
Love it thank you Jay now I know what to make for my college freshman grand daughter, Merry Christmas.
Came out lovely. I am sure your daughter is going to love it. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Would you kindly let me know where I can get the plan for this pencil box?
Fantastic build. Well done Jay.
Such a cool project, Jay. Your daughter will love it!
This is a great box. Well done! 👍👍

Jay I am going to try to make one for my niece wish me luck your friend Phillip white
Nice job I have always liked these boxes. great contrast too merry Christmas
I love it Jay! Always thought about making that design. It’s hard to explain but it just really looks cool.
love it looks great but if it was to have had split open shouldn't the knobs have been originally been one piece and split with the drawers too. that would be a cool look a neat touch too
Really wonderful work Jay. Merry Christmas to your family!🎉
Do you know of any other clamp companies that have that style of handle? I'm disabled and my grip is crud so those would be handy... except I can't find them in the UK
Having built a band saw box myself, I'm just amazed at how well your saw handled that giant billet. Mine would have straight died. 🤣😂🤣
Dang I downloaded the plans for these years ago and still haven’t gotten around to making one!
I would like to know what 1/8 inch blade you are using? The blade I have smokes a lot I don't remember what brand it is but it's either a Highland woodworking or timberwolf. Pretty sure there would be no way of getting through anything over 2 inches without leaving nothing but burn marks
Do you think you sanded it enough?
Where you get your miter saw blade
Do you have any challenges getting the 1/8" blade to track properly on your saw? I have a Rikon 305 10" and any blade under 3/8" seems to be a pain to tension and track properly. I get it eventually, but it may take me 30 mins to an hour.

1/8"
Nice! How did you do this without any sanding?
I sanded
I think it is a great job but the more important thing is the f you are happy how it turned out but the most important thing is what your daughter thinks about. I think the smile will be big
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍
The handles on the cracked drawers have to be to the edge of the crack, please correct that on the future build, cheers from Toronto Canada!!! Great project thou
But....but just maybe, I wanted them where I put them? Should I still correct it for you?
thank you Jay. what was the tooth count on the 1/8 " bandsaw blade you used? oh the wife heard you say no you do not need a second bandsaw yes i do lol .
14tpi
thank you@@JayBates
I can picture how many years later, a friend will inevitably ask your daughter how her Dad crafted such a beautiful gift... and she'll likely respond, "My dad made it with love."
What size bandsaw blade did you use for this?
1/8"
Nice work! Great inspiration. How long did it take you to make this box, so that I know if I can make it by Christmas :)
You'll manage until next Christmas
Where on your website is the template for this box?
