    Great album for a band that’s gone 15 years between albums. Huge Extreme fan here and I think it will take a few listens to warm up fully to it. Gary and Nunos chemistry is legendary.

      It’s like they’re a “new” band after 38 years together. Pretty hard to do this late into a band’s career. While I would have enjoyed a more traditionally sounding Extreme album, I’m really impressed with this one.

    I loved it. I continue to love it.
    My standout re-re-re-repeat song is Save Me. Really dig the sound on that.
    The mix to me is a bit off, but not when I hear it in headphones, but only in certain playback equiptment. My house stereo plays fine, my headphones it's okay, my car stereo it really suffers. I feel like some albums now are mixed for headsets and the engineers forget to test them in different rooms and open spaces to see how it sounds when blasted in different settings.

    When I heard the first track I thought this was another band trying to be too heavy with the down tuned guitars and all that (but does have a face melting solo),but as it opens up this sounds like the melodic, catchy Extreme of old. It’s a great record I’ve been enjoying this week.

    ….and this was the video I was looking forward to! It’s incredible we have much of the same thoughts. I sent my review of this to a buddy and said almost the exact things you just said here. Let me preface this: I love Nuno Bettencourt. Easily in my top3-4 favorite guitar players of all time. I think Pornograffiti is one of the best guitar-driven rock albums ever. From the day I heard Kid Ego, can’t remember if it was MTV or radio, I was hooked. So that gives an idea of my appreciation for this band. The very first thing I said was if you are looking for the debut or the Pornograffiti, don’t even pick it up because you’re not gonna get it. The first single was VERY STP-ish which didn’t bother me, track number 3 is very Aerosmith-y, whether it’s because of Gary’s recent work with Joe Perry or because the two bands are from Boston, who know… Other Side of the Rainbow immediately became my favorite track. If this track was released, if management, labels, whatever actually got behind their bands and sent this track to radio, even today… it would be a monster hit. Unfortunately labels and stuff still don’t promote their bands as much as they should. That song, would top charts. I did not find a bad song or anything that will hit the skip button. Here’s to the Losers at the end I did find to be weird placement, but doesn’t bother me. The track with Gary and Nuno singing instantly reminded me of More Than Words. I do agree the mix is a bit on the “muddy” side but that’s something that didn’t take anything away for me. I think it was intentional from Nuno to maybe not put the total spotlight on him even though his playing is superb. I think the vocal mix is excellent. For me, I’ll still go back to records 1 and 2, but for me this one slotted in at number 3 right away. If that Alder - II CD didn’t come out, this woulda been the winner of the week for me, I just love that Alder CD so much right now. Great video, great review… I laughed that you spotlighted some of the exact things I said to my buddy. Great minds, right!!!!!

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Год назад +1

      It is true that this album given the right push could be huge today. But record labels don’t prompt like they used to. They’re not pushing songs at radio. MTV doesn’t play videos. It’s all about streaming and RUclips, TikTok, and other social media presences. Most contracts with a record company leave all of the social media up to the band which is the bulk of promotion these day and if a band doesn’t know how to do it, it falls flat. Very unfortunate. But I’ve got a feeling this album is going to do well with the little push of Nuno being known a Rhianna’s guitarist, some of her fans will check it out boosting sales. I’d prefer if it was all the Pornograffitti fans coming back but I’ll take it wherever it comes from. The new videos they made were expertly done. Now people just have to find out and know where to look. Let’s get the word out!! 👍

    Man I really thought this was going to be in my playlist for months but unfortunately not the case. The first 3 songs released were the best imo. To me I felt they knew this and that it would bring those long time Extreme fans out to buy the new record whi h was quite clever I must say. There's maybe one or two more tracks I thought were good ones and it was Mask and Save Me . Way too many digital sounding mushy pop/folky tunes and ballads for my taste. I'm from the old school Extreme of the first 4 albums when they were really at their best imo. Still added those 4-5 to my playlist.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  Год назад +1

      Even on Pornograffitti, there are multiple ballads and folky tunes. This isn’t anything new. But stylistically, it’s very different from the first 4 albums. It sounds as though the album was made by a new side project that features both Gary and Nuno from Extreme. Not like a new Extreme album if one was expecting them to sound like their heyday.

    Pro Tip if you want a "Lost" Extreme album pick up Dweezil Zappa's "Confessions" as Nuno also produced that album and He Pat and Gary sing amazing background vocals on most of the tunes, plus it features Nuno's first solo vocal song ever "the Kiss." I picked this up right when Pornograffiti had also hit the world and I love them both so very much. Six gets better with every listen but my heart is true in saying that III sides is one of the greatest albums/concept albums of all time and an absolute Zenith for Extreme. I did not realize that Warheads was written way before their first album though until recently. Anyway, great review and Hurricane breaks my heart every time I hear it with a beautiful sadness.

    I think the album is pretty good however as a mux engineer myself they should have maybe left it an A list mix engineer (their albums sell for a reason) also the mastering engineer could have assisted with the track sequencing because the momentum drops right off after the 4 big songs at the start. In my opinion this is the best Extreme record hands down. The first song I heard was "Other Side of the Rainbow" which I immediately thought was the best tune these guys have done! This record is exactly what you want to hear from a band that's been off the grid for 15 years (unlike some other bands i.e. GNR/VH). It shows maturity not only in songwriting but in song qualty and in their playing. After 3 listens I realized I needed to hear these tunes live and bought tixs to see them when they come through. I give this a big thumbs up👍for this. Great job Extreme!👍🎸👏🤘😁

      Nuno has always “borrowed” from great guitarists. For example, he did it with the song “Rest In Peace” using part of a Jimi Hendrix riff. Blatant, but it’s also just a form of tipping his hat to his heroes.

    Really strong album, I am a fan of the ballads even though I'm not a fan of songs like more than words. The one song I hate is beautiful girls. It's so nothing and the music is too different for me. I kinda wish the album had ended on x out if I'm being honest, but this album is a solid 8/10 for me. Better than the debut but not as good as II or III (I still need to listen to the other 2)

      Yeah first listen of Beautiful Girls and I wasn’t into it either. But then it unexpectedly grew on me.

    Lol, "modern-sounding mix"... That's an extreme way to put it gently. IMHO, the simpler way to put it would be to say that the album is unlistenable. Great songs, great playing, but the mix is total junk. That's the very first thing that hits you when you put the CD in the player - and keeps on going through the entire album. I could only listen to 8 songs and stopped. It's what often happens when one single person decides to do it all - from songwriting to playing, to recording, engineering, and producing.

      My thoughts exactly. I believe they knew those first 3 tracks were the best and thought we'd figure if the first 3 are that good the rest is going to be awesome and we'd rush out to get it. Very clever and effective. Like you said too much Gary influence on this record. Love his vocals and Nunos solos and riffs but I couldn't listen to it straight through and in the end I added just 4 tracks to my playlist.

      @@larrybrown9883 Thanks, brother. It helps to know that I am not the only one who hears this. ...I didn't even add any songs to my playlist. Too bad, I loved this band so much - and still respect them a lot for Pornograffitti and 3 Sides. But at this point, to me, the King's got his pants down - and I can't help but say it. I can't figure out where all this global hype about this album is coming from. Reminds me of the 2020 toilet paper hysteria, lol :) They will bury themselves with this album. Not good.

    I love the album but Nuno's solo vocals are overly compressed and don't have clarity in the high end. A lot of the words sound processed and unintelligible. It's a classic mistake producers make when mixing their own voice. It stands out like a sore thumb in contrast to Gary's perfectly clear voice. How did the same engineer mix both? Makes no sense to me.

    Im not sold. Sorry, if people like it thats fine, but for me its not the product of a fifteen year wait that ticks all the boxes for me.
    And that Teala 'i need your loving' song on this album that sees the 'band standing in an open field for no reason' bon jovi commercial friendly song is just cringeworthy to me.
    More than words was so popular because theur ballad was opposite to every over processed rock power ballad at the time, its simplicity is what won everybody over. This new song is about as original as anything bon jovi or poison could muster and its so radio friendly bland.
    And yes, nuno can play, we all know that, but sometimes you dont have to remind everyone you can play by trying to stuff 50 pounds of gear into a 20 pound knapsack.
    I also heard too many things from other artists in here, litterally the guitar rythm fromnthe outro of motley crues girls girls girls, the chorus of panteras walk reqritten but still holding the same theme, extreme always sounded like themselves but now its like theyre borrowing from others and it cheapens it.
    Meh.

      Same here. They pulled a good one on us by releasing those first 3 tracks which were very reminiscent of the old school Extreme. Great marketing approach to get fans out to buy the record. Maybe Mask and Save Me have a chance to grow on me but I too felt duped and very underwhelmed.

    i think production is really flat, there is no depth. Lyrics are poor and songs are almost decent until...beautuful girls that ruins everything. Their weakest effort
