  • With this video, we provide you with a concise overview of the Fraunhofer HHI project Live Interactive PMSE Services (LIPS). It focuses on the interactive linking of live events (e.g. concerts) at different locations. These interactions require almost instantaneous networking of the audio and video systems used in event and production technology.
But how do we achieve this?
Extending on the concert example, a communication system distributes the audio signal to various speakers via wireless signals. Additionally, the speakers must be connected via multicast for the data rates to scale with the number of speakers. Such a mode is prone to delays. However, human perception requires a delay of less than 50ms for an immersive experience.
That is why the LIPS project implemented the technology "Single-Carrier-Point-to-Multipoint" to push this delay below 50ms. In the single-carrier point-to-multipoint process, multicast and unicast data are transmitted in time division multiplexing and frequency division multiplexing. Consequently, we can reduce the delays between the speakers to up to 5ms.
LIPS was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
