* JOURNEY ACROSS JAPAN CONTINUES - MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! *
One of my favourite episodes of the trip, as we get to see the epic Tachineputa floats with the awesome team.
Also I realise the last couple of thumbnail/titles are about food - but make no mistake this isn't a food tour!
The main reason is food topics are generally better promoted on RUclips to viewers (as opposed to arts, crafts, culture), so we typically gravitate towards it.
Still it was a delicious bowl of ramen and I highly recommend swinging by if you ever visit Aomori city!
Have an amazing Christmas everyone and a big thank you for joining us on the journey - we still have 6 epic episodes to go as we head into Akita soon!
Merry Christmas Chris thanks for the hard work you put in this year👍
A very Merry Christmas to you Sharla and the Cats
Happy Ho Ho
Merry Chrismas Chris!
I think they look great. lmfao.
I'm really happy to see the crew getting a bit of time on screen, rather than being stuffed out of sight and pretended not to exist. It's great to see them enjoy themselves, and they can also bring some additional flavor to the video. :)
Absolutely! Legends the lot of them - and they'll be back in a couple of episodes!
@@AbroadinJapan how can you afford to pay all of them? youtube revenue sucks
This is definitely the anonymous RUclips account of a crew person. We see what you’re doing…
@@_Hewman_ Channel is making 50k a month on patreon alone. That's enough to hire 10 staff.
@@samelmudir ok thx, I thought yt is not sufficient...
i know seeing chris grumpy is funny and iconic but seeing him genuinley happy is even nicer
Well, I loved the part where he was salty about the cider xD
w pfp
Chris is great at playing up his grumpiness, for sure. @@Sukenus
@@gabhug9338 ???
oi m8 what's uh, what's with that profile pic? who is that character and what is she looking down at?
I love how Chris becomes so much goofier and visibly happier whenever he is with Sharla.
So true
Before they revealed their relationship, they must have felt pretty restrained when on camera together. They were certainly entitled to their privacy but this is more fun for us viewers.
Thats called coping…its a trauma response…

Sharla won the art contest but Chris gets an A+ for effort 😂
Sharla made astroboy for the kokeshi doll
@@lyricofwise6894 I see it now 😂
hell yea!! 👍😁
Chris' rendition of Sharla makes me think of the mispronounced French phrase, Bon apple tit.
@@lyricofwise6894 I literally scrolled the comments to see if anyone else thought it looked like Astroboy haha!
Love that the crew is being shown on camera, theyre definitely all stars 👍👍👍
Legends all round!
Good work, crew, please keep up your efforts!
Chris' art is so good. He even managed to perfectly represent Sharla's grievous head wound. Truly an inspiration!
This is a very clear example why you should do a festival mini-series. I don't know why you haven't just yet. It could have a part dedicated to exploring the origins and what it stands for, maybe even speak with some local festival experts too, and then enjoy the festival itself.
partly because most of them are in the middle of the summer. the time Chris often flees back to the UK to escape the crazy heat.
@@sirBrouwer I have done a bit of research, there are in fact so many festivals that they got many of them year round, spring, autumn, winter, and summer. Few more in summer, but the amount of festivals is so high, I doubt it's the weather or a particular season stopping him so many years. So it's a good chance for him to do a mini series on it
Agreed!
So for the Nebuta festivals from what I remember being told during my time in Aomori, they were started in the 1950s to try and invigorate the local economy and also encourage local residents to come together post war. Different areas in the prefecture have different versions of the festival. Hirosaki's one is to act as jf its a group of soldiers going to war as the floats usually have warriors on one side and then crying women on the other side. Aomori city is more meant to be them returning from wR victorious as the festival participants are always meant to be dancing. It's worth seeing though for sure
Sharla's Kokeshi doll was painted with love, effort and skill and Chris's Kokeshi doll was also painted with love and effort.
It's been such a blast following you & the gang on this epic journey! You aimed big and delivered. Merry christmas to you & Sharla
Thanks for the kind words! A very Merry Christmas to you!
Sharla giving Chris slurping lessons is so precious 😂
I laughed when she told him to just put a little bit in his mouth to start, then he shoves a mouthful in 😂
"I don't suck, that's the problem!"
That's what she said!!🤣😂🤣
Yeah it's generally the other way around...
I'll get my coat
One of your best video this year! I don't know why, but this video felt like I was really there travelling with you guys. The upward shot of the float, the music - very artistic. Great job! Great team! Love your works! oh and Merry Christmas to you and the entire team!
Ian's reaction absolutely killed me, was the most British reaction to a float I've ever seen, got to love that man as well as the whole team 😂😂❤
Dunno what is it but seeing the team behind the videos being included feels so cozy. You never truly realise how much work and manpower it takes to create Abroad in Japan, so giving them some spotlight is really nice!
It's crazy, I knew you had quite the team working hard on these videos while on the road but seeing them all next to you guys at the ramen place really made me realize what a group effort this series is.
Much respect to the behind the camera staff! They're making this enjoyable journey possible!
So true!
Sharla has the patience of a Saint 😆 Chris is a lucky man! Merry Christmas to everyone on Journey Across Japan!
It was madness at the time, but I'm glad I went to Aomori for just a few hours up from Tokyo using the Shinkansen and back in November last year (while the JR pass was much cheaper) to experience the Nebuta museum, bought some giant apples, gone to the Aomori Nokkedon to get some fresh sashimi straight from the market, walked along the boardwalk, and back to Tokyo in the same night. I did go back to Aomori again last October and explored a little more to the North Korea-esque building of an information centre, but forgot that the Nokkedon wasn't open during that day. What a shame.
Sharla and Chris, you guys are so cute together. The best videos are the ones where we can see this love between you both! The whole tuna thing in the last one illustrated it well I think.. it's a healthy relationship and may you enjoy each other for the rest of your lives!
Sharla's doll of Chris looked absolutely amazing! Seriously, well done Sharla. Not only did it look like an actual Kokeshi doll, but it really does look like him!
Thank you both for another amazing video!
i really enjoyed this episode, so many funny moments with you and Sharla, she's truly a gem Chris ..loved the great camaraderie & really appreciate you showing us your crew as well. Merry Chrismas ! Have a lovely Chrismas eve dinner too..
the sweet teacher trying so hard to be supportive when u could see in his eyes the horror at chris' attempt 😭
if you look in the background when he first reveals Sharla you can see him trying not to laugh. I lost it!
This video seemed more upbeat and energetic, might be that you have sharla with you or the excellent videography, but the entire video was a gem. You seemed truely happy! Perfect for Christmas!
The sound that pig made when Sharla tossed it in the back seat! Squeal of despair, that was. 😹 As a soup curry connoisseur, I *need* to try that ramen!
My favorite episode yet of this series of JAJ. Chris just beams at Sharla, it’s the cutest thing ever. Wish I could taste that ramen, sounds so delish - speaking of sounds, I love Teacher Sharla giving the slight nod to “some improvement” in Chris’s slurping technique - and would so love to see those amazing neputa, wow. Cheers, guys, and Merry Christmas!
It’s so cute how happy Chris is around Sharla 😊 Have a happy holiday y’all ❤
No words can describe that feeling of grandness when you see the scale of the Tachi Neputas. Absolute stunning pieces of craftsmanship. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
This has been one of your best Journey Across Japan's yet! I love when you do content about North Japan ❤ Also, Merry Christmas! 🎄
I love seeing how silly Chris is with Sharla, and seeing the crew members is a real treat! Merry Christmas to you all, hope you enjoy it!!
Brilliant episode. Very funny. I find it hilarious when Sharla swears because it always seems to fit the situation perfectly.
putting these dolls on the wedding cake would be hillarious. merry christmas to you guys
Merry Christmas Chris, Sharla and everybody at the wonderful "abroad in Japan" team. Your channel is so amazing and I cant thank you all enough for bringing such joy and hapiness again and again to myself. I love Japan, the culture, the tradition, the history, the people and the food there, and thanks to your channel I can again and again enjoy it, even though I am very far away from it. You are a great person Chris, and I love to enjoy what you are doing and experiencing in Japan, with Natsuki, Ryoataro, Connor, Joey, Sharla, Ellen. And also when you are just alone.
The Kokeshi outro was 👌🏻🤌🏻
Kokeshi Chris is definitely the most epic of paint jobs. Kawaii af! Great job, Sharla! 💖
The epic filming and cinematic music for the mega Nembuta was just perfect! The expressions on the team's faces was the cherry on top. Merry Christmas to you, Sharla and Abroad in Japan Team!
Loving the wide variety of content in the series, as well as the mix of guests!
Thanks for all your hard work over the year to you and your team Chris and a Merry Christmas to you too.

Every place you visited in this video is phenomenal. This is one of my favorites. I'm so glad I got to visit through you until i can go myself. Perfect Christmas Eve thanks guys!
Sharla is good for you man, I don't think I've ever seen you laugh this much
It's been a while since I've run into Sharla on youtube but nothing brings me more joy than seeing her happy with you :)
This is my favorite episode of Non-stop North, and one of the best Journey Across Japan episodes ever! I also love when we get to see the crew behind the videos. Just makes the whole journey feel more authentic! Merry Christmas to you and the Abroad and Japan team!
That major float was absolutely stunning, and great music choice for the reveal and presentation of it. Thanks for sharing this part of Japan! I enjoy every episode. Wishing you both and the team Happy Holidays!!
I'm loving the series! Thank you for putting in all the effort with the team. It really shows❤
Merry christmas everyone. Here where i live we celebrate it the 24th, so i just wanted to say this now 🥳🇩🇰🎄
Really fun video once again you guys! I am always so thankful for the amount of effort and the positive energy that is put in each of these videos! I was almost able to witness the Nebuta Festival this year, but sadly I broke my foot while changing trains at Hakodate😿 effectively ending my journey. I really hope I can redo my journey across North of Japan in the future with the help of Journey Across Japan non-stop North!
Just getting a preview of the next video's challenge has me looking forward to it so much more LMAO Been loving this Abroad in Japan series so far!!!
Love seeing more of the team! Hope to keep seeing them in videos, it's so fun to see the people behind the scenes getting involved in the main video!
Love seeing your journeys across Japan and sharing the good and culture with us! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 to you both!
I remember when you first showed the Tachineputa floats in a video with Ryotaro many years ago but to see them again in 4K is unreal. Thanks for continuing releasing JAJ in the lead up to Christmas, hope you and the team have a lovely Christmas!
This was the best episode, love it when you find such interesting places and those amazing floats, wow!
Your videos are amazing! And seeing you share these experiences with your partner brings warmth to my heart. The day I go back to Japan, I'll have to do a full channel review of all the wonderful places you made us discover.
Chris’ look down the camera at 11:40 killed me 😂😂
And you should have the Kokeshi dolls as your cake toppers 😂
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a Wonderful New Year 🥰
For all his British reserve Chris can’t hide how happy he is around Sharla
We're not so reserved when we're around the person we love...well, maybe still a LITTLE bit, ☺
Loving this series of JAJ, wishing you and Sharla a wonderful Christmas. 🎄
The one Sharla did was absolutely amazing like the face looks like a Kewpie doll it's so good and it really does look like him! and then there's the one Chris did
It's great to see how far you've come from when you sat in your little one room apartment explaining how it feels to live in Japan as an English teacher to a journey such as this. Amazing job Chris. Kudos to you.
You can see the genuine warmth coming from Chris towards Sharla. Stark contrast from the coldness he normally radiates.
Really entertaining episode!
Chris and Sharla you make a lovely couple together.
Thanks for posting and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
This is one of the best episodes! 👏👏👏Loved seeing the floats-incredible Happy Christmas
Man Chris and Sharla have sparkling chemistry between them
Merry Christmas Chris and the team!! My partner has gotten around to watching the series and both really enjoy the quality content! Keep up the good work but enjoy some well deserved rest
Great video as always. I love the chemistry between you two
BEST AND CUTEST episode so far!!! I love how Sharla brings out the best happiest real version out from Chris for real and they look so cute and loving together!!!! ;-;
I was about to go to sleep and now I get to extend my night for another banger episode of JAJ 🔥 thanks for the well-timed release Chris 😂
Love that Sharla's speaking habits are becoming more and more English lol
@jaehimself yes I've noticed that too lately! Just a few words here and there or the inflection of things. It's cute!
Really enjoying this series. Nice to see places off the beaten trail. And great presenters 👏🏻
Loving these videos Chris and crew. Genuinely enjoy these food challenges.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays people
Thanks for all your tremendous video content this year guys yet again. Watching is my way of keeping in touch with Japan as I haven’t been back since the pandemic 😢
Keep up the good work and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year when it comes.
Finally an episode that does not focus so much on eating food at some restaurant! Nice to see the Tachineputa and some factual information, they look pretty awesome 😉 more importantly though, is that applecider an export product?! I need to try it!
Thank You so much Chris
You have no idea how much these videos make my day. Your energy is just incredible, thank you very much
This was such a wonderful episode!
Thank you so much, both for always making very interesting content and entertaining us, but also for not being afraid to let us nor each other laugh at your (own) expense, in a wholesome way!
Have a wonderful Christmas Chris & Charla, and a Happy New Year as well!
Love these vids Chris! Hope you, and everyone has a Merry Xmas!
i think sharla episodes have been best so far thanks
Thank you for sharing your journey w/us!! Have a Merry Christmas Chris & Sharla and team!!! 🎄🎅🏻🎁♥️
Excellent video guys. That float is beyond amazing 🤩. I'm so glad that it's displayed all year round 🫶
Sharla's kokeshi definitely has a touch of early Astro Boy about it. That's a win in my book (although the apples are good, Chris!)
Yes!!! Astro Boy is exactly what I thought of when I saw it. 😆
Thank you for making this December and Christmas so much more fun with this series!!😊❤️ Super fun and excited to watch the new videos every time!
Merry Christmas Chris, Sharla (+Maro and Tuna) and the whole team!!
Thank you for all the amazing video work you all do throughout the year. I love your content and look forward to it!
May 2024 be happy, healthy and full of love and new adventures!
Much love from Atlantic Canada!
I love this series so much!! Keep them coming!
Looking at Chris' open mouth wanting to eat whatever is in front of him instead of the main museum attraction just speaks to his hunger, I aspire to be as hungry as the affable man's stomach.
Incredible episode, I love Aomori and it's thanks to videos like this that it's my dream holiday destination BUT I must say that Chris being so excited to show 'even' the editors the giant float killed me, he's like a kid dragging his long-suffering parents outside to show them his favourite tree 😂
I love the dynamics of you two when you work together in the video.
I stopped here last year and it was my favorite port. The museum is stunning. I want to return during the festival.
This is up there as one of the best videos of this journey
Happy to see Chris in a happy, giddy mood in this episode.
Happy Christmas, Chris and Sharla!
Have a wonderful christmas Chris (and team), I've been enjoying the videos a lot, can't wait for the next ones!
Merry Christmas Chris and the team. Thank you so much for the great videos.
I love your videos, Chris. I love your sour British character, but how you’re also always very in awe of the beauty of Japan, I love how you go on wild adventures and have somehow managed to find such a brilliant entourage of friends (with the exception of Connor lol) your beautiful and lovely lady wife in waiting, representing Canada and your commitment to filmmaking and an honest insight into stuff that people actually want to know. Big ups, mad respect, kodewa pen des, and happy Christmas man. 🍻👊
I really want to go to Japan and try all these foods omg you always make the food look so gooddd
Me too!
As much as a love all the videos you put out, there will always be a special place in my heart for journey across Japan
Merry Christmas! Nice kokeshi challenge! Always nice to see Sharla & Chris & crew ramen eating 🙂 Thanks for Aomori tour!
I love the videos with Sharla
I like that you seems to take the criticism seriously, and portray the "Journey" part a lot more compared to the previous episodes in the last two episode.
Those floats are amazing!!! Such a treasure!!! I’m glad they are preserving them for all to see!
I’m really enjoying these videos this series had been a lot of fun so far. Hope you all have a great Christmas :) looking forward to next years videos and your future nuptials 🥰🥰 sending hugs from the UK xx
Where did you go - been 5 days since the last video. Was that a quick 21 days?
I watched Sharla since like 2010 and never heared her curse before. Now every other word is "fkn hell" :o CHRIS YOUR BAD INFLUENCE ON SHARLA HAS BEEN NOTICED.
This episode is deffo one of my favourite viewing pleasures I’ve had with my newly purchased OLED tele. The colours pop like crazy
Merry Christmas! Awesome video from you, sharla and the crew!
We all know the rarest ramen is the elusive roast chicken flavor. Nice try
Right???
Top Ramen
Rarest ramen is my homemade one ..not Instant.. i tried the real deal and it was good..
Only did it once.. sooo much Work ..so only 6 portions ever existed..
But even rarer might be Jamie Oliver's ramen.. no one in his right mind will ever recreate this abomination..😊
Speaking of instant ramen, I actually just got some Momofuku instant ramen and my god is it good!! It’s a little expensive compared to normal ramen packets but trust me, it’s worth it. I got the wavy chili oil kind and they were the best quality noods I’ve ever had in instant ramen!
make your own freaking vlog then
I love the videos with Sharla. You guys seem so happy and have great chemistry on camera, it's really fun to watch.
Great project Chris really love the content we’re getting
I love this channel so much and I'm happy to have been here for a long time. Merry Christmas to all! May the British wit and affableness (that's a word now) never stop.
