*JOURNEY ACROSS JAPAN CONTINUES!* Happy New Year everyone! And so we reach the most northern part of our journey, in a remote region of Aomori where there’s not a great deal going on save for a bizarre train station and some rather picturesque Tori gates. Fortunately, today’s awful challenges certainly keep us busy though. Now let us never swap accents again. The final FIVE epic episodes of Journey Across Japan featuring two more guests (three if we include a certain character) will be out in early January. For the next few days, the editing team and myself are taking a much needed break to welcome in the New Year after a relentless December. I’m really proud of the team for delivering what’s been an incredible series travelling around Tohoku and for delivering a record amount of Abroad in Japan episodes in a single month! But the journey’s not over yet and some of the best is still yet to come (including perhaps the most difficult challenges of all). Onwards into Akita and Yamagata! Wishing you all a great start to 2024!
Chris my wife and I adore your show and watch it on the tv RUclips regularly. Thank you so much for your inventiveness and friendliness. Really feels like you invite us all on these journeys. Happy New Year to you and Sharla!
I love how Sharla turned into an old british woman who prioritizes gentle manners, and Chris just sounds like someone doing a commercial ad for US tv in the 2000's, loved this episode!
I cannot express how much I was dying listening to Chris’ American accent voiceovers. This was the funniest episode yet hands down. Videos with Chris and Sharla warm my heart.
I remember watching the American accent episode from the original JAJ when it first came out. Watching Sharla attempt a British accent alongside you is definitely more entertaining thanks to the contrast 😂
The way Sharla said 'I would fancy some lunch.' directly followed by a quick "Oh god, kill me." by Chris had me rolling. haha I like you two a lot! You are a joy to watch! :D Sharla and her slice of life videos and blogs and all are lovely and relaxing and Chris documentary style journey videos are informative and always a joy, too! Keep it up! You are awesome!
He absolutely sounds like Pete when he tries to do an American accent. He seems more animated and expressive too, similar to Pete. I wonder if that is his go to mimmick.
The accent challenge was really enjoyable to watch LOL Chris looks like he is enjoying this himself watching Sharla attempt his accent. Happy New year Abroad in Japan!
The video Sharla mentioned where she walked around town with Ellen was indeed a fun one. I hope to see more stuff from the crew behind the scenes, it would be interesting to see their experience of this journey.
Love how the only requirement for the challenge was to switch their accents, and Sharla felt the need to be polite and proper as possible, despite being engaged to Chris and knowing how he talks XD
The Jōmon period of Japan's history is the inspiration behind many of Zelda - Breath of the Wild designs (Jomon literally translates to "rope-pattern"): the towers and shrines, the Guardians, the Sheikah slate and gear, etc. You can see the similarity when looking at the Shakōkidogū ("goggle-eyed dogū").
Considering that Jōmon pottery is some of the earliest ever recorded, there's a joke that Link has smashed so many pots over his career that the Elder Pots have come for revenge
Chris COMMITTED TO THE ACCENT, even doing the voiceover, well done! I also speak in accents when I'm home alone so this video was very entertaining for me!
This is so hilarious 😂 I love how much Chris laughed when Sharla first did his accent. I can’t believe this lost you subscribers last time, this is gold
This cracked me up so much. 🤣 I love how Sharla changes not only her accent, but also her manners to those of an eldery british lady. 😆 Thanks for this treat on the first day of the new year!
Such a fun series. Thank you for enduring the headaches, physical challenges and wicked schedule. We appreciate the work you, your guests and crew have put into this to give us a few laughs as the year ends. All the best in 2024.
Happy New Year! This weird accented Chris was certainly an interesting way to end the year. This series has been wonderful, can't wait to see the final episodes!
Watching a new abroad in japan video while entering the new year, one of the best things I could've asked for really! P.S. I love the fact that even in the voiceover you continued on with the challenge, that's some real dedication there!
I’ve never laughed so hard in an abroad in Japan video and it was all because of Sharla 😝😂 worth the wait. Thank you for always doing incredible content
I love this challenge. I'm always thinking how Sharla has picked up so many of Chris's British-isms like "shut tup" so fun to watch them try this all day.
The accents were so jarring, I could barely even hear what either of you were saying because my brain was too distracted trying to make sense of what was happening. Lol I love how Sharla’s accent turned into a complete overhaul of her entire way of speaking.😂 Whenever I attempt to do a British accent (also Canadian), I pretty much use the words I always use but throw in a few “bloody hell”s and whatnot… not difficult since I use that phrase often enough anyway.😅 Missed you guys. Thanks for the upload.😊
I love the story about how a bunch of small towns got money to revitalize their local areas, and just ended up blowing it on the most absurd shit. I'd love to find out what exactly the plan was, and how it went so horribly wrong
The plan was simple, the problem was probably that they just received the money without any conditions on how to spend it. So some just thought, "ay a slide is fun, people will travel all across Japan to ride it!". Also a great way for money to dissapear into some deep pockets.
I hate this happens in Japan. I romanticize them too much, I suppose. Just used to things like this happening in America. Like weekly, sometimes even daily.
One of my fave AIJ episodes ever. I don't think I stopped laughing the entire time. Happy New Year to the entire Team and sending thoughts and good vibes to everyone in Japan given all that's currently going on. Stay safe!
I’ve heard British actors say they grew up watching so much American TV and cinema that they do the accent(s) pretty easily. That probably has a lot to do with it.
Well, that was a good laugh. Some of those foods brought tears to my eyes. You both did so well, with both the snacks and the accents. Happy New Year to you both and may the New year bring you good healthy happiness and prosperity. Thank you both for all the hard work you have put in to keep us entertained over the last year. Blessings , Muffy from Oz.

Quite surreal watching this video today since this is the second time in Journey across Japan history that everyone in the team have avoided another disaster. The last time was going to Kagoshima with Joey before Sakurajima erupted after. Hope all is well.
Always love the accent challenges! Lmao you both had great attempts. Happy New Year you guys! Great episode and hope everyone is safe out there with that terrible earthquake going on!
Loved the challenge, it's almost like Sharla forgot how to speak English while trying to imitate the British accent 😂 Great video as always, I was eager to know when the next video was gonna be out in these days :D
I haven't laughed this much in awhile 😂 the commitment to the bit was great. Seems like you both had fun. You should do this again with other guest it was great! 😊
This is one of the funnest ones you guys have done!!! I was laughing like crazy!!! I still can't believe 7 & I labeled it as Salted Squid Guts, so appetizing!! You should keep that as an ongoing challenge food...

Happy New Year to you and Sharla!
Cheers Chris! Enjoy the rest of the year to the fullest!
Happy New Year it will be 10 am here when you ring in the New Year in Japan
Happy New Year Chris ! 👍😁
Thank your so much for all the awesome videos in 2023. I hope you and Sharla have an even better 2024 !
I love how Sharla turned into an old british woman who prioritizes gentle manners, and Chris just sounds like someone doing a commercial ad for US tv in the 2000's, loved this episode!
In the 90s I think haha
Shes canadian xd. 😂
She sounds like a female David Attenborough 😂
An old British woman with a penchant for swearing heartily
Most americans somehow sound like an old victorian woman when they attempt to do a fake british accent.
I love that no matter how hard Chris was trying to do an American accent he still maintains his aggressively British laugh
But from California? 😂
You mean Canadian?
You mean australian?
Like Hyenas, we laugh when we are in pain.
Chris’ American accent almost sounds AI generated 😂
😂. I was gonna say
Love that Sharla asked for a “biscuit”, and Chris gave her his “cookie”
Also the crisps and chips haha
It's what she asked for...
Shes Canweigan not amercurn?
Sharla's body language doing the accent has me reeling. She seems to stand up straighter when she's British.
Prim and proper innit?

I mean Sharla’s normal accent sounds like she’s been hanging out with a bunch of British people to me but maybe I’m crazy

I cannot express how much I was dying listening to Chris’ American accent voiceovers. This was the funniest episode yet hands down. Videos with Chris and Sharla warm my heart.
Hearing Chris do the voiceover in the accent too had me dying idk why lol this was a great challenge!
Sharla just killed me this episode, I was snorting my tea out from laughing with her random accent 😂😂 you guys are very sweet together !
I agree aswell!
They looked liked they have so much fun together. Chris looks so much happier around Sharla.
Well that’s cause whenever he’s with the boys, he’s freezing inside a tent and crawling through an alien bug infested cave

Certainly made me feel better about myself 😅
@AbroadinJapan your American accent was great!
@@AbroadinJapan "Chessy Cod" They really need to start teaching Dairy Products in Japanese schools!
I love that sharla's british accent is near perfect at "it's a bit shit" and "oh f off". It's like she hears Chris say that all the time.
It’s properly “shite”.
Yup!🥰🤣
The accent swap was EPIC! I loved it so much!! You both did great.
Omg the voice over staying in character is mint 🤣
13:19 The "oh fuck off" was so natural, you just know she's heard Chris say it enough to imitate it flawlessly, probably semi unintentionally 😂
Thank you so much for the time stamp! 😂😂
Her entire delivery was both hilarious and pure perfection!
this whole segment was hilarious 😂🤣😂
9:40 Oh deeear, was also good.
Literal perfection lol
it's pronounced FOK OFF...😂
I'm in tears over Sharla's British accent. God this was a funny episode.
Sounds like a middle-aged, middle-class housewife whose only excitement is going to the garden centre.
I've always loved Chris' American accent impression but Sharla's is so hilarious. The person who did that challenge suggestion nailed it.
Sharla's face eating the dried octopus is the same one my cat makes when chewing on an indoor fern.

There’s something about Chris speaking like Pete and Sharla speaking like a stereotypical British person that just brings joy to me 😂
Except for when she swears because then she sounds just like Chris! (I wonder where she learned that hmmm)
He absolutely sounds like Pete when he tries to do an American accent. He seems more animated and expressive too, similar to Pete. I wonder if that is his go to mimmick.
@@choobs8511 Beat me to it. I was about to say that Sharla's "Fuck off" was pretty much spot on!
I [a 70 yo Englishman Londoner] thought Sharla's British accent was pretty damned good!!!

I can never get enough of
Chris doing an American accent! I’m not just subscribed, I’m hitting the bell for this one.

The video Sharla mentioned where she walked around town with Ellen was indeed a fun one.

Chris sounds like every Californian resident afflicted with the common cold, and I love it so much, lol.
glad I wasn’t the only one who heard it
Omg that's what it is, he's so much more nasal and kinda slow like he's got a sore throat with serious hesitation to emphasize anything. 😂😂😂😂💥
Way too nasal lol
I'm pretty sure he's got a deviated septum, you can hear it in his normal accent too but moreso with the American one.
Lol the American accent is so good it’s jarring 😂 also Sharla sounds adorable
Sharla’s posh English accent was hilarious, and then she topped it off by speaking Japanese in it 🤣. Most likely the funniest episode to date!
Seeing Chris cracking up every time Sharla uses some posh british vocabulary to fake the accent is absolutely hilarious. :D
I love how Chris went full method this episode. Bravo.
Happy New Year to the entire Abroad in Japan team for making this holiday season truly spectacular!

What news?
Yeah the earthquakes have been crazy. I live in Ishikawa and we're still having aftershocks!
@CloudyWinter1111 with about 55 aftershocks
Thank god. @deso6741
