About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday, we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
A boat trailer is brilliant. Perfectly balanced, they are.
Buttquacks oh geez dude I'm dying 😂
I'm a retired plumber, and people would always ask me why (male) plumbers, more than any other trade, had butt crack issues (or plumber's crack, as it's known) and the answer is, dude, do you have any idea how much stuff we carry in our back pockets? You got your wallet in one pocket, and every hand tool you can carry in the other! It's no wonder their pants droop! They should be wearing suspenders to keep those jeans up 😂
Reminds me of the old Duluth Trading commercials 😂
Toolbelt! I say this as an experienced sparky's right-hand man. Plumbers definitely have the heaviest tools, but electricians also carry a fair bit. A toolbelt is the best solution for eradication of "Builder's Crack" (as we call it in the UK). 🙂
Suspenders? As in the things women use to keep their stockings up?
maybe that's why mario and luigi wear overalls!
7:00 another benefit to boat trailers is that while they are lightweight and durable, they are also built with low centers of gravity (due to their robust frames for holding boats), meaning whatever you put on it isn’t going to tip.
Alison is such a natural on camera. When she said 🧍🏻♀️ I felt that.
I love seeing Alison as well. Knowing how rare the spottings are...😂
Sweet to see a nice, productive, non-drama day on the Farm :)
I'm really looking forward to the late summer when everything is blooming: Allison's garden, the hoop coop garden, and the Cluckyball lattice garden. Gonna be a lot of happy birds, eating what's growing in and on their house(s)!
I agree, not to mention this year's iteration of the mobile chicken coop. There's lots of cow patties to be scratched through and spread around. Hope Morgan shows that off soon.
The updated happy cow-mobile is looking good! And the cows already half destroying the brushes says they're loving it 😄 I'm really excited about Alison's garden too, can't wait for the tour! 😃
Toby is such a sophisticated gentleman 🧐🎩🐕🐾🦴
A new happy cowmobile will definitely make cows happy! 🐮 🐄 🐮 🐄
So awesome to see the cattle back out in the grass, they seem more content. Funny, I was wondering about that all in one contraption you created, and here we are looking at the new improved version, lol, gotta get those brushes to stay on, they love those. Pigs look like they are adjusting, sure they will be happier when given more space. Can't wait to see Allison's garden as it grows, and to see what she planted this year. Morgan, looks like all is well at Gold Shaw Farm, thanks for the update!🐕🐕🐄❤️👍
I have a little half highland because of you Morgan! I’ve always had dairy breeds before. He’s not quite as hairy as yours and he has little white socks 🧦 😊
Always a good day down on the farm 🐂⛺
So excited for Alison's garden tour ❤
The grass is so beautiful in the fields.
So glad Abby isn't going anywhere. And happy that there may be more Weird Chickens. That means more Zen on the horizon, I hope.
Good thing the cattles are happy now
It was great seeing Pablo
Alison's vegetable garden tour is one of the highlights of your summer season.
Mind you, it cannot be too long until you start planting in the hoop-coop. That's another summer highlight. 😊❤😊
Seeing your two awesome white Dogs just makes this old man day❣......Lol cover there butt quacks....The Boat trailer is a great idea and it also has a wider wheel base.....Thanks Morgan 👍
Nasty old Shoe🇺🇸
It's so great how you're adapting to Abby's unique needs Morgan. Some farmers just see animals, even their dogs, as tools to be used and then discarded when they no longer do their 'job'. It's easy to see how important your animals are to you and how much respect you have for them.
they really love the brushes and the corners for scratching, trees would have done all those jobs in the past.
You explaining how to build the shade shelter for other farmers who might want/need this.
Me: Farmers watch this channel? 😮😂
❤ you sharing your life on the farm!
A dog that savors their food slowly. Now that’s pretty amazing.
Def a good idea for you and Alison to have wellies (Wellington boots) on, when in the garden and out in the pasture. Yesterday my next door neighbour got bitten by a blunt nose viper! Poor guy is still in the hospital today, receiving anti-venin treatment.
I always love the tender care that you have for every single animal on your farm. You can tell just by the way you talk to them how much you care about each one.❤
Hello Morgan. Reminded you many times that there are plenty of newer better versions of those cow scratchers, there are these heavy duty machine driven scratchers now, they are amazing! They also proven to help with milk production. Urge you to look in to new motor-driven cow scratchers.
Ty Morgan hi Alison great to see you baby be look great she's a great escaper
You are the frank Loyd wright of the shade mobile s .😅
Very impressed .very creative .love the cow brushes .on the old one .
Happy cows 🐂🐂🐮🦉
My daughter keeps asking if there is going to be a second Toby dog book, she loved the first one.
Your pasture is beautiful. I can't believe how tall the grass is.
Those baby cows to cute to watch. Thx for sharing your experience
Love your videos Morgan ❣️
I use his videos for homeschool lessons for my kids. Every morning my kids sit down and watch his videos while eating breakfast after morning chores. They love them and we don't miss him only by a few minutes. Even the farm meetings are interesting to my oldest child. So they are great.
Thank you for sharing,
so good to hear that. God bless you 😊
7:12 "Um... excuse me, farmer man..."😂❤
Re: cattle unscrewing bolts: if ordinary lock washers don't do the job, try glopping on some Loctite threadlocker. The regular "blue" kind (works with ordinary tools) would probably do the job. Worst case, the heavy-duty "red" kind requires a blow torch to remove 😀
I was afraid the cattle would poke their eye on the bolt once the brush fell off
Since you have the happy cow mobile where you want better forage you may see if there is some kind of seed spreader you could attach to it and somehow automate...
lol, “to cover their butt quacks “. 😂😂😂
Hi! I love your videos! So you mentioned keeping the calves on the farm and then breeding them with Artificial insemination; what about the grand calves? Same thing or would you put them what is their grandfather or using AI for them too, thus keeping a third generation? I love seeing how considerate you are with your animals and being so creative with material you normally wouldn't use on a farm but finding a purpose for it.
thanks for another great video, abby dog is doing fine, hope she can live out with the cattle
Just a Few Acres here on you tube may give you some ideas on your cattle and birds. Pete keeps his generational farm in upstate New York, sharing all the successes and fails as he goes along. He manages a small herd and birds for fun and profit with great insight and humor. :)
Love the colors on the babies!
Thank you for sharing! Always enjoy your videos!
Thank you happy family-xxx
Morgan - I've got a solution for your problem with the cattle unscrewing the carriage bolts on your happy-cow mobile. It's a product called "loctite". It locks nuts onto bolts so that they don't unscrew easily. It comes in two "flavors", red and blue. The red is "permanent", for things you don't expect to unscrew. The blue is not as strong and is for setups that might need to be changed. I hope this helps.
Morgan
Great video., thank you for it
Linda from Ct
You maybe can add some dry firewood for them to brush against on your trailer. Just something which still has strong bark but is already drying so being quite light
One way to secure large nuts to a bolt to make it resistant to unthreading, is to use two nuts back to back on the bolt. Thread the two nuts tandem fashion, and touching each other, on that nut, (so that they jam together). On another subject. Have you tried using new, discarded carpet scraps for the cattle to rub on?
Your farm now definitely has its own culture and routine and it's so fun to share it with you through your videos. I will admit I'm a bit partial to Abby and I love it when you declare that she's here to stay! As you point out, perfect LGD or not, she is a great companion to you, and even more importantly to Toby. I do believe that he feels like his dog life is going well when he is part of a pack and Abby provides that. Give both of them an extra pat and "Good dog!" from me.
Abby be like "talk all you want, but don't stop petting" lol
Morgan, I truly enjoy the videos you make about a your days on your farm. You work hard and take such good care of all the animals. I like seeing that. In one of your videos I watched, you mentioned that you were thinking of adding different animals to your farm some day. I think that's great. I would like to mention two or three animals that you might consider. 1.) How about a couple of donkeys? They are effective herd protectors. They are also hard-working, strong animals to use for tilling soil, or pulling carts, etc. They generally have a good temperament and are good around people. 2.) How about two or three goats? You know their milk is tasty. 3.) How about meat rabbits? I have eaten rabbit before, taste just like chicken, lol. I also thought of some plants to consider planting. .) How about blueberry bushes? Lots of people love them. 2.) How about getting an established Christmas Tree Farm going? I live in Texas, and they bring trees down from northern states to sell. Last Christmas I went to a Christmas Tree Lot and there was a four to five foot tree with a sweet little price tag on it for $135. Needless to say I went home and put up the usual artificial tree I own. But, I think it could be a very profitable crop in a few years. Well that's all I have, I hope you don't think I was being pushy. I hope the best for you and Allison 'cause you're good folk. Have a blessed life!
Your shade machine is great!
It is wisdom to set Abby up for success and realize what her strengths and weaknesses are.
Learning hands on is the best way...Your doing great..❤😊
Damn it Morgan when you said AI my mind went to the usual... guess I've become conditioned to that...
I'm so envious of that rhubarb and for that matter the rest of Alison's garden! If I had the space to grow anything I'd be happy to have such a lovely garden.
3.0 would be nice with some solar panels and a small powerstation.
Butt quack! 😂😂😂😂 Good one, Morgan!
Bigger diameter wheels will make it lots easer to move.🇺🇸
I think you should do a nighttime video of the cattle to see how they respond to Toby and Abby suddenly running around and barking when they alert. It would answer the question to how they react to the dogs while on duty. Do they startle? Do they do a bit of running around themselves? Or are they used to it and totally ignore the dogs? You could have a friend or neighbor approach the farm from a distance to set them off if you don't want to wait for something to happen.
structurally better with more diagonal bracing. squared structure only allows pivoting around the joints, which will probably occur as you move it, and loosen the screws. the diagonal bracing can reduce that.
For the cowmobile scratchers. I wonder if you could get some pipe and pipe fittings and make it like the same basic design as a towel hanger if that makes sense. Where they attach to the wall on both ends and come out a few inches with a bar between them to hang a towel on. I wonder if it would be heavy duty enough to put the scratcher on a bar of some kind in the middle, just a thought
Morning for Australian, Morgan I would like you to have a look at pemberton farm videos about the calf birth and watch what he does to help the mum, it may help you out
Betty rubble is absolutely adorable she is a very beautiful girl calf
groan.....*butt quacks! 🤣
The cow mobile looks good! It could possibly use a little thicker shade cloth for more protection from the sun. 🤔 That was a great "dad" joke! Butt quacks! It had me laughing! 🤣
@@chadschmutz147 Do you?
I strongly believe Abby would benefit from being trained to herd the pigs. They're at a good size for it right now (none of them is snow white, either), it would let her be in your line of sight more easily (as opposed to the upper pasture), and she would probably learn important lessons without too big of a risk of being trampled.
The Cowmobile 3.0 looks pretty good. I was wondering if you could find larger brushes, rather than the small ones ; it'd probably be harder to unscrew them.
Is the hatching video planned for June ? I can't wait for the new chicks :)
Morgan are you going to let the chickens out to spread the cow droppings & some fly control? Get the used huge brushes from the city sweepers, they change them out & city gives them out & you slide over a pole in ground, the cows love to scratch on those hard bristles! 😊 love the AI idea.
I know that willow tree is frowned upon. But it's fast growing. And self pollarding with cattle.
Hey! What is that harness looking thing hanging on the happy cow mobile? I don’t think you explained that one. I can’t get over how much the cows are using it. I was raised on a dairy farm and I don’t think my dad ever had even a scratch post but the cows did have access to wooded areas.
Angles, you need angles, triangles are strong, squares are weak, add some angle supports across it
Ey Moran, since I guess you already with your experience with Abby came to the conclusion that she is most likely than not not a good farm dog (altho a good companion as you say), wouldn't it make sense to start looking for an actual farm dog to do the duties she was suposed to do? Now your area of work is expanding and an actual good farm dog on the top of the pasture with the cows and the free ranging chicken seems that would make a ton of sense. And dont even get me started on the extra pastures I remember you were working on.
Betty Rubble is as cute as a button 😊❤
Morgan, what is the cloth loop on the happy cow mobile? You didn’t mention that.
Looks like you need your fly traps out there again.
If one of your Scottish Highlands have another heifer, could you name her Betty Brown? 🐮
Change center of gravity and make it wider + u can put weight at the middle for stability like a ship
You should add some hinges to the top so that you can just flip up the arms and don't have to tie the shade cloth evertime
The west coast guy would use LOCTITE on the brushes.
For future small build projects, use triangles. Rectangles are not sturdy.
Should shape it like a boat on the trailer and rename it the SS Shade!
Your comments about the shade sparked a memory of my granddad's farm and seeing the cows peaking out from under the trees in the summer. You'd never find them in the fields in the hot weather. Vermont might be more comfortable. I watch a number of wildlife channels, including some horse stables with breeding. You'd never see them allow stud mounting. Too much danger to the mare. It is interesting to see the science and technique that goes into the insemination process. With the cost of the thoroughbred sperm and the short window, they have to make sure it's done right.
Have you ever found critters hiding in your pastures before the cows mow it down?
If Betty Rubble is pretty and a nice specimen- keep her!
I wonder if you'd have an easier time with some of the lumber being replaced by aluminum pipe, which is both lighter and stiffer.
Have you seen the water tank hut Jason from Sow the Land built I keep thinking something like this would work good for your cows.
Morgan, love your ingenuity. I am wondering, however, if the new mobile cloth covering broad enough to create enough shade for more than 1 cow? I don’t see a lot of shade.
I can't believe you didn't put up fly paper on the cow mobile.😮
Was curious if you deer hunted on your property. Just morbid curiosity
Those cows are big and that over hang is quite small. How do all those cows fit in that shade? Love the idea and we know they love to run up against it but from the naked eye it looks a little light on the shade capability
You did put glue on the complete piece of lumber to only use the glue an each end? You did hey!
You learn as you make mistakes.
The algo deleted my comment, so look up boar taint if you have a male pig. You don't want that for meat.
Do you have any plans to plant shade trees in the top pasture?
Sticking with the Betty theme...Betty Boop?
That is very good. I am farmer from indonesia
Did you figure out the reason for the baby bulls passing? Maybe something to do with the rubber bands?
I simply *need* to know what the giant tube sock loop is.
How are the new pigs doing?
you should build an arm on the inside of the frame of the trailer that you can get inside and pick up from the middle (sort of like a horse drawn chariot of sorts in like ancient Rome) instead of having to awkwardly pick it up from one side and drag it, then chop off all the trailer hitch attachment components that aren't needed any more and are just adding weight...
Do the bulls get a shade also?
I need a new garden gate, will you give details? Or are you going to purchase one?
Would you try harvesting the male pigs and keep the female if she becomes pregnant?? And try raising the babies up for future harvest?
Tell Allison she should cut down the flowers on the rhubarb
