Morgan, I hope you don't get any negative feedback about selling your 3 weird chicken chicks. I'm proud of you. You are a working farmer not a hobby farmer. I was raised in a family of working farmers and they would have laughed at the idea of not treating their farms as a business. Good job and it will be fun to see if there's more little families of weird chickens in the future. Go, Mr. Frizzle! By the way, the poem was fun!

I'd like to second your comment. I understand that as a type of public media star Morgan will receive criticism and worse no matter what he does, but it gets to the point where it's completely ignorant and pathetic. No doubt someone(s) will have a judgement, like "How dare you do what you want with your own farm and livestock!" 🙄These human troll bots need to get a job, life, whatever, just get off the internet😄

Actually I thing selling those 3 chicks was a good idea. Hobby animals can quickly become a money pit for a small farm like yours, so finding a way to balance their upkeep is the best option in the long run. Plus they were a little too young to live safely with the mature birds in a limited space over winter.

    • @Nphen
      @Nphen Год назад +9

The weird chickens just went from a hobby to a business. Morgan's goal will be to get as many weird chicks as possible next year, knowing that he might only keep 2 or 3 out of 20 or more. Selling the rest at a premium would pay for the whole operation and more, meaning any eggs he gets over the rest of the year are profit. I wanted to see those 3 awesome weird chicks grow up, but I'm glad Morgan realizes the value in breeding them now.

Sadly, Andy died suddenly in March, and I haven't had the strength to watch this channel since, until today. I'm planning to try again when I have my own footing. Long live love for the animals, vegans, vegetarians or otherwise. Your balance of business and compassion is such an anchor. Wish I lived in Vermont so I could come and say hi. Just take your days one at a time. My joining a Wellness Centre Gym and beginning Tai Chi for my mental health I really slowly did regain a new me to help my grieving ( still cannot believe it is over 8 years since my husband had to leave us because of his terrible illness as it feels like yesterday still).

Good decision on the chickens. Even as someone who now just has a small garden and is probably going to re-start keeping a few chickens in the new year, I know from my previous smallholding experience that you always have to think strategically and manage a flock for the long-term. So sad as it was, I think selling the chicks made perfect sense. By the way here in the UK the term Cider can ONLY be used for what you call "hard" or fermented cider. The other (non alcoholic) stuff we always call cloudy apple juice. I would love to see a video of you making some hard cider.

At 14:25 that black commercial hose is clearly kinked from being bent over that pallet like that. This could have caused a pressure buildup which ruptured your other cheaper hose. Make sure none of the lines are going over a wall like that or bending that much. The weakest hose or fitting in the system will burst when your pump turns on. If you've had low pressure in part of your system, that might be the culprit.

Next time, when gathering geese, collect them at night. They'll roost and nest down at night. Get them into a smaller concentric circle to harvest them. Or put them into your empty chicken coops and grab them from there. Also, clip their wings so they cannot fly before harvesting starts. This will make the annual mass extinction event, plausible and easier for you.

Grandpa still does it every yr just like the maple syrup though the production level is cut back significantly compared to 20 yrs ago. If some more of the kids, grand children and great grands would come and help we'd be able to give some to just about everyone in our family and friends circle but me, my one cousin and one uncle are the only ones that still come help Grandpa w the work all yr long. So we still get cider and enough maple syrup for the year. ❤

On your live stream I mentioned that yes chickens can have issues when inbred. My neighbor is constantly trying to hatch his eggs from inbred chickens hatching success is not good. It pained me to get rid of my 4 yr old rooster who I used this past spring for the next generation of breeders. Found homes for my roosters..if that wasn't so I don't want to know!

Freshly pressed, unfiltered and unpasteurized Apples in the U.S. is Apple Cider. Filtered and Pasteurized, the cider becomes Apple Juice. The filtering and pasteurization increases shelf life and the product is sweeter because the bitter solids are removed.

Geese make Excellent Watch Dogs!! When I was a Residential Garbage Man my customers had two geese and when I pulled up in the truck, boy did they make a racket. Which would get the dogs going including the neighbors dogs. So if they pattern to you because you were there when they hatched well….

Do you have any Amish communities out there? My great-grandparents live in an area with a lot of Amish families and it's always interesting to see how they live. I love how quiet it is where they live as well, very relaxing. Night and day difference from living in the city.

In general, the Amish (the kids, at least) don’t have much respect for property lines when they wander the area. Their hard-wheeled farm implements and carts tear up the road, but (in this state) they aren’t required to get license plates, so they put no resources toward maintaining them. Their feed store drove our local feed store out of business. And land prices in their neighborhood have shot upward, raising the property taxes locally. Many used-up horses get sent to slaughter. They are polite and respectful, and willing to lend a hand to help a neighbor in need. Like with most neighbors, a mixed bag.

I love the weird chickens! Alas..Your not raising movie stars! You do what you have to do for farm to survive and thrive. Never apologize for what farmers have to do. You have to do it. Keep up awesome content I really enjoy viewing from Las Vegas.

Just passing this on, why not use the goose feet for broth? It's really rich stuff and full of good nutrients. Pair that with the waste meat from processing rice and dog safe veggies and you have an AMAZING food for the pups.

You’ll not be disappointed unless the place noise is so loud you can’t hear well. I never noticed plane noise particularly until during Covid time. The take-offs and landings especially, but the rest of the time, too. Pretty darn loud.
Have a great long long trip!

You do know that goose down can be sold, and may people use them in crafting, down quilts, or pillows. You might want to check the cost of buying goose down online to see if that is something you could do. In europe middle ages (herd storys of goose herds?) geese were priced for their down and it is havested from them during the spring. It doesn't hurt them because they are shedding winter down.

I wish you would buy some Houdan chickens, not just because they are crazy beautiful and would give you great big hens (average about 6-8 lbs) but to hear you talk about the Houdan Hens... An old Saki story, 'Sredni Vashtar' had a Houdan hen as a part of the story (One of my favorite stories, read or listen to it 👍)
