I am 73 years old and saw Pink Floyd live several times. I am so gratified to see younger people appreciate this music since it does not exist any longer.
The music still exists and grows and grows. It will never die. Saw Floyd twice and the memories will be with me forever. And generations will discover the music again and again ❤
Me too, having been born in the 50's brought out a huge rift of benefits, one of them was being the perfect age to go to this concert and really appreciate it first hand 🤩
say them before they were big in a 3500 seat theater - for that time the light show was unbelievable This one - as you get older and every kind of stuff happened you do get comfortably numb its like oh darn this again over and over again
I just want to say 'thank you' for not interrupting this masterpiece, but especially the second solo by David Gilmour, which has been said by many to be the best guitar solo ever performed live anytime, anywhere.
I have joy in my heart when young people are introduced to Pink Floyd, often reacting in disbelief. Comfortably Numb features what many people have dubbed the greatest guitar solo of all time. Many fans call this their favorite song of all time. The truthfully try not to overthink it. The meaning of the songs often change is one grows older, reflecting upon their own mortality. At times these masterpieces are almost too much to take in. But you will get it. In time
It's also a tribute to founder Syd Barrwtt after he left in 1968 due to his worsening mental condition. Much of Waters's lyrics and the themes in Dark Side encapsulate post-World War II British anxieties.
I was at that concert (and 2 other nights) and the air was electric. By the time they got this (it was the 2nd encore) they had been playing for 2 hours and 10 minutes. Note also that NONE of band moves from their place: they don't need to, they just let the music do all the talking. PLEASE - do yourself a favour. Grab your self some nibbles and your beverage of choice, take yourself to a darkened room and watch the entire 2 hour 40 minute concert in its entirety. You will not regret it and you can thank me later.
I was there aswell at earls court 1994 that was put originally VHS now DVD, I've seen Floyd six time's from 1975 to the last time here at Earl's court 1994 which was like the cherry on top of the cake, and out of the six time's I've seen Floyd five of those times they played comfortably numb..
This is why a lot of older people don’t like new music. We are used to hearing real singers playing real instruments, real creativity, and original, none of those things exist anymore
I disagree. Have you heard Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence? If not go listen to it and come back and tell me what you think. Their version has made grown men cry. Literally. If you have not heard it don't comment till you have. lol
One of the beautiful things about Floyd is there's so many layers to it. The lyrics are genius, and the music soars beyond the limits of language to describe.
It is always fun to see someone react to this for the first time, how could anyone expect such a performance? On the lyrics, the story goes that they are partly based on Roger Waters' having to perform on stage after he had a weird reaction to a medication he was taking. But I think that experience was used to convey something far more important--what you referred to as detachment. There is a lyric in Comfortably Numb that is one of the saddest ever, "The child is grown, the dream is gone."
As someone who saw Pulse concert twice, and have seen many of the classics over many years, I can still say the Pink Floyd concerts were and still are the best I've ever seen! Insane amount of talent these guys had and they created music that is still the best even today!! Amazing band!!
@@ColKurtzknew No way, because the impact of the visual effects and crowd reaction to the live performance is far more intense than listening to Clair on the studio version. That can come later...
As a 56 year old man, I have to agree. :) The quadraphonic sound at the live concert in Adelaide in 1988 had me looking around. It was like the guitar was right next to me.
This may be my favorite songs out of all their great music. The 2nd guitar solo is one of the greatest ever. I'm a 74 year old rock musician who has heard them all. Great reaction. I'm happy that you recognize greatness! ❤❤😊😊
It was a flashback to when he was a child with high fever. Then he is not feeling well before going on stage with the band, and gets that feeling once again after the doctor gives him a little shot to help him through the concert, bothe times he describes it as feeling Comfortably Numb (( a little high , but without pain) . This song was based on Roger Waters true experience as a child who got really sick and then as an adult, As well.....Comfortably Numb. So, it was written in early 70s when it was psychedelics in pop culture and music. The lead guitar is David Gilmour, one of the best guitarists and a soothing voice, and great harmonies. Great band. 👍 ❤
30 years ago this month I got to see this tour 4th row seats. Best concert ever. Great reaction, the whole concert should be watched, won't be disappointed.
To me Comfortably Numb is about those times in life when you're going through something so difficult that your emotions shut off and you're left feeling numb. I think really it's a song which can have many interpretations. My brother has a very strong reaction to this song because it reminds him of when he was suicidal. And I know people for whom the song very much speaks to overdosing on drugs. It's an incredibly beautiful song. It's so dreamy and comforting, but also has this underlying emotion that is bursting out and proving difficult to contain. Musically it really fits the idea of repressing intense emotions.
Detachment is a good way to put it. There is a whole story behind where this song fits into the story of the album (The Wall), but on its simplest level, yes as you get older and pain inflicted on you (both from others and from yourself), you lose that innocent wonder of childhood and become detached from your true self. There is much more to the context of this song of course but I think on that level we can all relate to it. The “pin prick” is a doctor giving him an injection of whatever to make him feel enough euphoria to get him through a performance, but it can be taken on more symbolic levels as well. Such is the magic of Pink Floyd.
I'm actually addicted to Gilmour's second solo. I've listened to it several times and it never gets old. Mind boggling to think a human being can be that freaking good on the guitar.
Best guitar player ever. Some might be faster, technically better or whatever but nobody is as tasteful in his solos as him and convey so much emotion through 6 strings of metal and wood.
Good reaction. The entire Pulse concert was the pinnacle of a live performance that every band/artiste should seek to emulate. Perhaps you could react to the entire concert from stat to finish, one piece at a time? The exception to that being the part where they perform The Dark Side of the Moon album in it's entirety. That would need to be done in at ,least two parts.....
Shine on You Crazy Diamond live at Pulse should be next, then High Hopes from the same concert. Then go back to their earlier days and watch "Echoes" live at Pompei.
The Pulse concert was epic. The last The Wall tour was insane. They thrive in a live setting even above and beyond what they make you feel on a recording.
Welcome to the world which was formed our teenage years. We were spoilt with such talent as Pink Floyd and we are living the sensation of hearing such magical music, for the first time, through you, - for that we are truly thankful.. A great reaction Sir!! Keep up the great work.
I think we made our point. 😏 You are definitely on the right path... Detachment from reality. The song is from Pink Floyd's double concept album called "The Wall", considered a masterpiece. It is about a rockstar going slowly insane.. Becoming detached from reality. The whole album tells a story. This song appears about 2/3 of the way in. Good call! This is why I implore you to listen to the studio versions first as their extraordinary live performances tend to distract from the lyrics if you've never heard the song before. And Floyd's lyrics always have something to say. Not to mention the extra dimension of sound you get with a pair of good headphones. Check out the studio version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" 1-5 next. Good job!
I grew up in the 70s. I saw Pink Floyd in the Atlanta, GA Stadium with some slightly older friends drinking Tequila Sunrises. There was a plane on a wire that whirred quietly, errily down from the top and seemed expxlode into the stage as they started the song “Brick in the Wall”. It was nothing short of majestic.
Great to see you appreciate one of the greatest bands ever. From the same Pulse collection, please check out the LIVE version of TIME, and also SORROW. Have fun!
Great reaction! Thank you for not pausing during the solos! Pink Floyd has so many greats it’s not even funny. Another couple of bands that I think you’d enjoy are Rush (start with Tom Sawyer) and Dire Straits ( start with Sultans of Swing live Alchemy). There are so many more.
Everything about this concert is amazing. Sorrow and One of These Days are both bangers and The Great Gig in the Sky will break your heart. I look forward to more of your reactions to PF. 🤘🏽💜
I’m 62 and you’re doing a great job with passion. On XM radio they had an interview with the drummer and he was blown away the younger generation understood the lyrics like you did but it didn’t deter them. All of Dark Side of the Moon was jamming in 1969 and was so far ahead of its time it’s crazy. My 4 years of high school there wasn’t a kid that wasn’t getting high and listening to dark side of the moon. I still fall asleep to that album to this day. I think you’re doing a great job keep on truckin man ! Floyd and Zeppelin are the two greatest that started in the 60’s and other freak out of deep purple as well !
No worries here about your pausing, although you will get more from listening without pausing too often. I'm here to experience your reaction to the music I grew up with. I can have a listening experience any time with my collection. (I'm trying to picture us in the '70s lifting the turntable needle every several seconds to replay something. LOL) My first recommendation is the studio version of "Roundabout" by Yes, which barely beats out a great tune from my favorite band, Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, "Firth of Fifth." If you love Pink Floyd, there are countless deep and winding rabbit holes awaiting you. Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing this great reaction. It was so good to see your genuine emotions and admiration for this performance. It still blows me away after more than 40 years of hearing the song. This is no doubt one of the best performances of it that I have seen. I really hope you continue to explore and enjoy more of Pink Floyd's legacy of their art and professionalism. Perhaps I would suggest songs like "Sorrow", - "Run like hell", "On the turning away" or "High hopes"; - All are worthy and wonderful performances. Thank you again.
I love your reactions, there is so much more Pink Floyd for you to go at, please do, you will be so much emotionally richer for it and you will have heard some of the best music ever written and performed. Try Echoes Live in Pompeii and play all of it do not cut if off in the middle there is more to come.
I am 42, grew up with PF, have my nest memories with my dad watching the Pulse Tour and this is an entire rabbit hole you need to go down. YOU PAUSE AS YOU WANT TO SIR! I loved how much you paused Time to understand the lyrics. That's part of the journey. Do yourself a favor and watch the Pulse tour. You won't be sorry.
It's 3 o'clock in the morning and im on highway 101 listening to the dark side of the moon album the song was (on the run) and I fell asleep and the alarm clocks from the song (time)goes off and wakes me up. That song saved my life.
Bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (ummagumma) and saw them live for the first time in 1971. Saw them 4 more times. Pink Floyd is for me the BEST music of all time! Nothing even compare to them.

You just witnessed the greatest guitar solo in rock history. Every guitar wants David Gilmour for Christmas... I was fortunate enough to see them on this tour. It was EPIC! When you react to any other PF songs, please do them from this same Pulse Concert. Absolute perfection...
What i love about your music reaction channel is you've got the thing. The music bug. When the sound waves hit just right and for a moment that song is your whole world.
My very first concert was Pink Floyd when I was just 8 years old and an older brother took me to see them Perform the Dark Side of the Moon way back in 1973.
This song is from the album that went on to be a feature movie, The Wall. The entire album is incredible! The movie is a great way to understand the meaning of every song. Comfortably Numb is about the main character, Pink, who OD’s in a motel room. (Pink is the lead singer for the band the story revolves around.) The band’s manager finds Pink in his hotel room and couldn’t care less that he’s dying. He’s more concerned about getting him to the show and fulfilling obligations. A Doctor Feel Good is summoned to administer counter measure narcotics. Lyrics like “A little pin prick.” “That’ll keep you going through the show.” Pink remembers his near death experience when he was a child while Doctor Feel Good administers the narcotics. As a child he takes an infected rat as a pet. “When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt like 2 balloons.” Again, for more clarification on songs from The Wall, watch the movie.
I think the trick by David Gilmour is, that he unfolds his guitar solos very slowly - especially the second solo on Nunb - there's no 'Look how fast I am, dudes'. Gilmoure takes his time and let the music talk. Thank you very much for that, Mr. Gilmoure. And thak you for a very good voice.
I am from a small northern region of a big country, like Alaska but without English, this song struck me as a child with the music, I did not know the lyrics, and when I watched The Wall and translated... I'll tell you, it's the sweetest song about it.
David Gilmour is a master at his trade. The man can sing and play that guitar like nobody's business. The man can play multiple instruments plus writes and composes.
Love watching the reactions, I'm 61 this is what we grew up with would really love to see you react to anything off the Pink Floyd album animals trust me you pick

I listen to it, I love pink Floyd, I'm 65
David Gilmour. Sings like an angel and plays guitar like a God. We are blessed to have him among us.

My very first concert was Pink Floyd when I was just 8 years old and an older brother took me to see them Perform the Dark Side of the Moon way back in 1973.
I’m from the North East of England, you from across the pond in the U SA , but music has no boundaries or borders , thank you for your great reaction
I love that you include so many different kinds of music. I've been listening to Pink Floyd for 30+ years and this song still makes me cry.
Kudos for resisting the urge to stop and comment! You showed the respect this great performance deserves!
the album 'the wall' was a rock opera, ever song connected to the next. Maby the single best album of its kind
Well done man! I saw that show live in San Antonio in 1994. That performance was once in a lifetime!
That, my friend, was one of the greatest solos of all time.
welcome to the machine :D
This song is from the album that went on to be a feature movie, The Wall. The entire album is incredible!
The movie is a great way to understand the meaning of every song. Comfortably Numb is about the main character, Pink, who OD’s in a motel room. (Pink is the lead singer for the band the story revolves around.) The band’s manager finds Pink in his hotel room and couldn’t care less that he’s dying. He’s more concerned about getting him to the show and fulfilling obligations. A Doctor Feel Good is summoned to administer counter measure narcotics. Lyrics like “A little pin prick.” “That’ll keep you going through the show.”
Pink remembers his near death experience when he was a child while Doctor Feel Good administers the narcotics. As a child he takes an infected rat as a pet. “When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt like 2 balloons.”
Again, for more clarification on songs from The Wall, watch the movie.
He’s coming to LA and New York in Oct and Nov. Last time to see him live. Most incredible concert I’ve ever seen in 2016 last time he toured.
I love your reaction. Thanks for loving this music as much as we old do.
High Hopes from the Pulse concert is great also. And Great Gig in The Sky
It never gets old
Pink Floyd, Everyone is sitting, He music has the best stereo separation of all bands.
Thanks for your great reaction! This track is awesome!! Well done no stops
Liked your reaction and comments. Well done mate, from Canada
LIKE I SAID PISSING with tHE BIG DOGS ty PINKY !
One of my favourite songs
It's the Greatest of all Time
Thanks very much hadn't heard Pink Floyd in a while seen them few times & they are that good Hello from Scotland.
You are awesome for realizing how great this was going to be and not stopping.
David Gilmour is a master at his trade. The man can sing and play that guitar like nobody's business. The man can play multiple instruments plus writes and composes.
This song never gets old. Absolute masterpiece!
Love watching the reactions, I'm 61 this is what we grew up with would really love to see you react to anything off the Pink Floyd album animals trust me you pick
