      Or
Morgan wakes up in his apartment, and it's year 2017. He's actually a normal human person, who just got this new super immersive VR device from his friend just to test it. Later, he walks to the kitchen and drinks a cup of coffee, while saying "whew, it's looking better then we've expected". The reflection in the glass shows Morgan with nerdy glasses and game developer badge on his t-shirt. As he grabs his stuff and exits his apartment, we can see some advanced VR game projects on some papers lying on the table.
We can see Morgan walking through the apartment building corridor.
Morgan: "hmmph... maybe we could call it.... Prey... yeah :) "
Morgan walks outside and closes the front door. It's a sunny day outside and birds chirping. Credits roll.

    They are NOT Hybrids!
    Spoilers Ahead.....
    .....
As far as I understood, it was not a hybrid, but a typhon with human neuromods or something similar. On my play-through, I found a room with a research proposal determined to bring empathy and human traits into typhons in a similar way to how typhon traits are injected into humans. However, Alex Yu refused to give it any resources and shut the project down. I suspect Alex changed his mind later and started trying to create a Typhon with human Neuromods, and he succeeded.
And if you think Typhon's can't mimic humans, they totally can. I found an interesting way to mess with mimics in the area with the greater mimic that demonstrated the Neuro-disruptor. If you take the object out of the display space, open the small door to that display area, and jump in it in time, the mimic in the room will become Morgan Yu. It is however in a T-Pose, so it could also be a glitch.

What I think was really going on is that they got Morgan's conscience digital copy which was put into a Typhon via neuromod. And if I remember correctly from the game's audio logs and messages, it is even mentioned during playthrough that people's consciences could be copied into a digital form. January, Morgan's assistant robot, was actually just that.
Key thing that was mentioned by the scientist who studied Typhons was that there were observed no mirror neurons, which basically means Typhons have no sense of individual identity and that they are not capable of empathy. They only follow set of strict instructions which I assume are: "breed, seek and assimilate"
That's why last Alex's words were that they finally tried to put what makes us humans into a Typhon - a conscience and ability to emphasize.

    • @jimbodii8958
      @jimbodii8958 7 лет назад +82

Maybe morgan made the operators to preserve human lives, He said it was a literal back up of him. The operators that you see at the last scene are the minds of real humans that are dead. Alex Yu might be dead, if you pause at the right moment near the ending scene where the chair turns or the pictures of what remains of earth show, a frame will show where only the 4 operators remain.
From what I can speculate maybe all humans are dead and the only thing that remains are the operators and the typhons, operators being the minds of people who are dead and doing the experiment to preserve human life.
Alex said that the memories where real memories of Morgan Yu and almost none of it were fabricated, most of it at least.
For all I know earth was already invaded humans was doomed, but Morgan Yu created operators to make sure humans have a way of preserving themselves, but then he was killed, luckily he was able to finish the operator in time and preserve his memories in it, Alex took this chance to experiment on Morgans memory inside January as well as use the technology used to create operators and used it on crew members in Talos-1, use the memory inside January to inject it in typhons and see how they would react, Alex died because he got killed by one of the experiments, while the operators that he created continued his experiments.

I dont know why my brain jumped to that conclusion, but to me it wasnt even a surprise to see.

I played like three times, love this game, but unfortunately the story is the low part of this, i always thought that i was playing a simulation, even when i tried the demo, the game isn't even subtle with this, Morgan doesn't talk when you control they, but they always talk during logs and videos(i felt a shouting inconsistency there), Dahl reprograms the dispensers to fabricate military defense operators when he invades, but if the dispensers could do such thing, why Talos I crew didn't even tried to do such thing when the Typhons escaped containment instead on relying on very weak turrets? Why Danielle Sho who promised to help, escaped alone lauching one of data vaults instead on trying to communicate to get more people to leave with her(if she did it before we even get to contact with her in the window of the crew quarters gym, how she escaped the station since when we launch out of the Deep Storage, she completely vanishes from the game?), and the glimpses you get when you play through the game just reveals that your adventure is essentially worthless, and it's never explained what truly happened in Talos I, what happened to the real Morgan, did the station blew up or was nullwaved, why Alex is the only human there. sounds like everything gone to hell. It's a Awesome game, hell it's probably one of the best of 2017 and the DLC is awesome, but christ the story sometimes feels rushed.

Cody, great video. I do have some questions for you to look into:
    1. Thoughts on what happened to Morgan? Did they use his corpse to make a Typhon? Or do they just have his memories and keep using them to upload to a Typhon and keep running experiments?
    2. Where is Alex and the robots at the end of the game? Another Space Station? Somewhere else?
    3. When does the game actually take place. How much time has passed? Why are the other characters in operators, but Alex is actually there, and appears to be the same age, or is he an illusion, as there is that one frame where he disappears..
    4. What's with the "Survivor's Account of the Evacuation" texts on Talos One? These seem to be describing the Typhon invasion of earth, but those events take place after Morgan's adventures on Talos one.
Just curious about your thoughts on this great game, thanks!

I really, really liked this ending, but the one thing that kind of puts me off a little is typhorgan's hand going all human when you take Alex's hand. To be honest, on my playthrough I didn't even notice it happening, which is odd.
So, what do we take from this? Did the introduction of human "empathy" make the Typhon mimic the human form, or did the Typhon part 'die off', reverting back to human? Humans become Typhon in the game, so I assume the reverse might be possible too.

    • @xXMustPlayGamesXx
      @xXMustPlayGamesXx 7 лет назад +9

I think it's a pretty basic symbol that the typhon has full empathised with humans. It's mentioned in the game how the typhon aren't like humans in that they can't empathise with anything, or at least not humans - becoming one with us suggests a large amount of empathy.

I guess that is meant to be the message there, but it still feels a bit weird. A visual representation of something that's been more subtly worked on is kind of weird. Like seeing a rainbow in the sky over earth, and having Alex say: "you know, kid..I think it's gonna be aaaawwwwright!".

@@Toasty2I hate to be that guy but often times, you don't get your reflection in video games because the real time render of a reflection like that (moving and getting very close) would affect performance quite a bit and cause a massive fps drop. • @Charcu2

You miss the little touch developers added to the game, the ending (if good) reveals you are in another simulation (Yeah basically a simulation inside a simulation inside another simulation). The last choice is in fact the real test you are facing, whether after all those experiences you are willing to help humans or not. If you decide to kill them, you would probably be executed instantly and you would die thinking you killed while in fact they were testing you for a last time making you think its finally the real world.
A clever idea since you could have realised one way or another you were in a simulation all that time in the station while the final revelation barely gives you 5 minutes to realise the whole enviroment is "fake"... Simulating the real room, almost fully, where you are would definetely make you think you are out of the simulation.
    Fascinating idea indeed

yooooo so quick simple theory here. alex says the whole experience was morgans memories on board the ship.
from this we can safely assume that morgan did save everyone on board talos1 and used the nuerowave device as a cannon ending. thanks to the memory of those people surviving and the fact that we wake up a typhon having had a human neuromod installed. BUT this has a major implication. this means morgan partook in every neuromod available.
this doesnt really change the ending unless even the final scene is a memory but i highly doubt that as the ending is made specifically vague for a sequel opportunity.

I don't think it's a hybrid, i came across i diary that suggested putting human mirror neurons that make empathy into a typhon, thus giving it human emotions. that's what I think you are. A full-blown typhon, but with the feelings of a human

    * What were the ''Real Morgan'' tests about? It's known that he went in for an extended testing period, which is considered unusual. They also switched from weekly testing to daily testing.
    * Why did they start testing on Morgan on a daily basis? For how long? They had a couple of days on the whiteboard.
    * Did Morgan create the Operators (January, October, December) during this weekly testing? Was he just utterly confused, but still had access to all facilities inside Talos 1? There are some documents and audio logs that imply Morgan was active on the station in between tests (during weekly tests I suppose), but for example Mikhaila states that she thought he was earthside (this is after they switched to daily testing?)
    * Were they testing Typhon power neuromods (mimicry, remote control) on Morgan? Maybe they switched to daily testing here? This seems likely because you fail all the tests no matter what you do in the beginning, and there are mentions of changing the tests to ''spooky action'' (at a distance) and I think something to do with mimicry?
    * Did testing of these Typhon power neuromods have something to do with why the Typhons ''attack''? Or did it start with the first Neuromods? Aliens were discovered a long time ago, but the introduction of Neuromods definitely seems to be a catalyst. I seem to have forgotten most of the lore about Psychoscopes, I'll read up on that!
    * Neuromods were being smuggled out of the facility.
Thanks for the vid, especially the first part about he history was pretty good, I was fuzzy on that. Where did you get those animations?

Its probably too late now, but the typhons didn't have a self identity, and the ones that "borrow" human bodies to become phantoms are caught saying one liners. But it is established that they do it purely out of the shadow of the once human dna, memory, or mind they devoured.
They don't actually talk and mean what they say... at least not until the very end when you're trying to get the arming keys.

Late for the party but I figured this out. Preys entire plot and meaning is in the inkblot image. If you look at one side of it, it looks exactly like the brain found on the monitor screen at 'The Hidden Place' computer. If you look at it that way the image represents two minds connected in the center which means Alex didn't create Typhon neuromods but made a Human neuromod to link into the Typhons mind allowing them to experience and feel human emotions which they were incapable of. Our character is a Typhon/human hybrid and the entire experiment was based on seeing if Human neuromods could be implemented to make the Typhon understand us. Weather or not Alex succeeded though is another question as the ending is ambiguous.

No complaints at all except that I can only imagine it would have been a lot better as a next gen PS5 era game.
The engine didn't do the ideas justice and it's time for the next gen anyway

I have another theory... All this visions during the game not the "Typhons trying to talk to you", many times we hear explanation that Typhons doesn't have mind in any way similar to ours, they are too much alien, and that we don't even exist for them. So there no reason for them to talk to us, they just don't need and actually just can't do that. No, this is real Morgan conscience in you trying to tell you not that this all is simulation, but that this last talk with Alex about conquered Earth etc after post credit scene is a lie too!!!
We saw in this visions same scenery of Earth that Alex showing to us in the end with and without coral in few fast flashes, and Morgan's! voice (same gender as you choose) tells us that they lying to us. We know that simulation is restarting every time Alex doesn't get result he wants, so what if this last talk is just part of another bigger test/simulation, who knows how many times we having this conversation, maybe part of Morgan's mind installed in Typhon and that can actually perceive existence of time itself (Typhons doesn't know concept of time at all) starting to remembering previous "versions" of this conversation and trying to tell us about this. Plus Alex doesn't seems like guy who gonna risk his life trying to convince alien monster he himself created, he's to smart and calculative for this. And it's not gonna be first time when simulation ending up being part of another bigger simulation, and continuing this scheme can become the "triple plot twist"!!!
    Sorry for language..
