Punk, reggae and two tone came along roughly at the same time...It saved Britain and anyone who got involved in he scene and the ANL can be rightly proud .
When I was in high school I heard these 2Tone bands & it immediately clicked...wished I wuz across the pond...people on Long Island were listening 2 the Eagles etc... Loved that 2Tone SKA sound... "Where...did U get that blank expression on your face ?"
Wonderful upload ! I’ve rediscovered these incredible bands age beaky 60. Utterly fantastic all of them. But! Atm I’m jus seriously playing the specials I’d forgotten just the buzz 🐝 they give me.
All this stuff somehow found its way down the M40 to where I lived (outside High Wycombe) around 80/81. All the older lads were sticking their speakers out of their bedroom windows on Saturday mornings (oo er) and playing it until they got threatened with the law. It became the soundtrack to my childhood on my patch for a while. Didn't understand it then but still love it now! It's a sort of nostalgia I suppose because I still get that warm shiver down the spine when I hear it.
The 2Tone Movement sparked an American Ska/Reggae movement starting on West Coast with Fishbone (1979), The Untochables, (1981) The Skeletones (1986), No Doubt (1986), Let's Go Bowling (1986), Donkey Show (1987).
ska was for me very important, great music and lyrics. These bands were dealing with issues that our incompetent and corrupt political, economic and religious leaders don't deal with.
I saw the Selector live in Veldhoven (holland) in 1994. It was fantastic. And yeah, there was a short fight with a small group of racist skinheads.. 20 neo-nazis against 4000 common folk from Veldhoven./Eindhoven. 5 minutes. Then those 20 neo-nazis were kicked outside of that free festival. The selecter were fantastic ! and the festival was also free. Sponsored by city of Veldhoven. Fantasic times.... I am 41 year old now, but still punk/oi!/Anarchist.... Cheers and have a free digital Beer !
God I get sick of American rap (black, there words not mine) culture dictating people in UK when there is such a rich (Inclusive) music scene here in UK ,reggae, dubstep, etc
Had my 2 tone suit and my loafers. Seen the specials September 1980 they brilliant but then wankers in the crowd started chucking glasses at them when they were on their 1st encore. Me and my mate totty got chased through Newcastle by a load of greases earlier that summer.
Big deals abouts individ... borhs from diffrnt... backgrounds and cultures, now broked through... races, it's was going too explovs... any ways thats marvelous too heards this rules has finally opened the flood gates, and i knews then. But realized theys thoughts theys will be famous and richer, not billionaires, if not going too biggers no ways, millions dollars, yes thats will explovs... all depended, too
