Very good review, honest and on point 👍 Always remember: Pros use LAB putters, because it’s the leading technology, NOT because they are paid to use them
Thanks for your assessment I have just within the last week taken ownership of a DF3 and as you mentioned it’s not a magic wand I just want it to return square at impact then it’s down to me to get the right line and pace ..I’ve noticed a ridiculous comment mentioned saying that it doesn’t look good so you or anybody shouldn’t use it 😮 the most ludicrous statement ever if it works it works obviously everything needs practice ..if somebody guaranteed me 26putts with a frying pan 🍳 a round I would use it …good golfing and thanks for spending your time on the review 👏👏👏👏
@@garylucas7050 I played in the Porn Ferry Tour so I'm a much better player than you. I make birdies you make double bogeys. Different levels to the game
I'm a LAB putter believer. I have several, actually. I'm glad to see that you are open-minded enough to try it and game it regardless of its appearance. I'm a data junkie and the LAB putter was the only equipment change I've ever made that made a noticeable impact on my score. All of the stats (based on over 400 putts per putter) were better: putts per round, putts per GIR, frequency of 3-putts, etc. Like you said, it's only a couple of strokes per round at best, but it's still a couple of strokes. Why give that away? Plus, your confidence goes way up. It works for me and that is more important than what some random fashion policeman thinks of it. I now use a Mezz Max broomstick. I was never a broomstick putter guy, but combined with the LAB, it's put me at a whole new level of putting.
got a new, Odyssey putter, last year, cured my miss on the low side which happened frequently, but now i miss more on the high side😳 Anyway great video Gen , be good x
One of the best guitarist in the world finished a set when a person approached him and asked, is that the the new “xyz” guitar with “abc” pickups? It sounds really good! The musician put the guitar on the stand and asked, how’s it sound now? If you want to make more putts, put in the time practicing. After that, what Gen said.
Mine is in at the end of the month and let me tell you, it was very close with the Spyder. The LAB just felt better over all in my hands and head. Get those wins girl!
Got one recently. Feels really good and I do make more putts. Still miss easy ones sometimes but that’s because you can still hit open or closed. It’s down to you and your stroke at the end of the day
I had the DF2.1, then the Mezz, and recently changed to the DF3. If I’m honest, I find the 2.1 unweildy (too big to make a stroke), and the Mezz I keep pulling my putts (it was custom to my specs mind you). Finally the DF3 is the most comfortable and I made a ton of putts with it. Some of you find this putter ugly, that’s ok, you do it your way.
I like big putters and I cannot lie. DF3, Jailbird, Alcatraz, Spider, PXG Alan, Scotty Phantom, Cobra 3D Printed, Bettinardi, Ping, etc. The big benefit with a zero torque putter is that left/right dispersion is much better so I get to focus on line and speed which is entirely up to me. It means I must practice and read greens better and focus.
Hi gen, love the review very detailed! I have a question on your setup with this putter as I have gotten one myself and fitted for one too and we have the same grip! My question is that upon setup do you shaft lean to add loft ?
Had my DF3 for 2 months now (Used a Odyssey Marxman for 3 years prior to that) and used the remote fitting, which is great but meant I needed a 72 lie angle and 35.5" shaft so lead time was a little longer, so went with the Accra shaft, a red head and custom sight lines too, as might as well at that point. I track SG with Arccos and I don't need it to tell me the DF3 is much better but nonetheless: Odyssey - 25% 1 putt, 72% 2 putt, 3% 3putt+ (29.1 per round, 1.8 per hole, 2 per GIR) DF3 - 35% 1 putt, 60% 2 putt, 5% 3putt+ (29.1 per round, 1.7 per hole, 1.8 per GIR) Big thing for me is I used to pull putts left, now I don't, I pick a line, it goes there. Big revealer for me and the one that shows everyone who asks me about the LAB on practice greens is the thumbs off drill... It's amazing how different the LAB is compared to a 'normal' putter. Is it expensive? yes, is it worth it? Depends how good/bad your putting is but the way I looked at it is, I would spend that much on a driver and expect it to improve my game, yet I use my putter more times per round and the SG's are probably even more important. Anyway, long time watcher but massive lurker, so thanks for all the vids Gen but felt I had to comment on this one given my own experience.
@@GenevieveLingGolf I think it’s because I struggled initially with lag putting as it felt so different off the face to my Odyssey. Also been playing a lot of different courses as of late, all running at different speeds, so I think that’ll sort itself out.
@@GenevieveLingGolfI've heard lag putting can be a bit more difficult for some in the beginning because of the big difference in feel. This detailed info supports that.
@@GenevieveLingGolf Felt like I needed a follow up after the last round I played. 23 putts 🤯 - 13 singles and 5 two putts. Insane stuff. I'd had a round with 25 putts before but this was next level - 100% upto 9ft, 50% thereafter with a few long bombs thrown in from 25ft+. Shame my driver was massively off, so the putting just saved the card but I will follow it up by saying that my average putts per round is down too.
Thanks for great qualitative 6-mos. review on the LAB, but as a pro you should be able to provide quantifiable metrics like strokes gained by using this new putter over your older one. If you’re not using data (I.e. Shot Scope) to improve your game, then how do you know if you’re actually improving?
This df3 looks nice in person. Has a real premium look despite people not liking the looks of it. Think the original look put a bad image to the putter
Great video! When you push your putts, what is the main cause for you? I’ve been trying to self diagnose as to why I’m pushing my putts but can’t tell. Thanks!
Have been waiting for you to make a video about it !! Have you had a try with the Link.1? MST has it but only have tried it with the plastic on 😅 it feels more traditional but would love to have your thoughts on it. Have tried the DF3 and Mezz.1 with Impact Golf without the plastic, kinda felt the slanted grip with the Mezz and DF3 felt a little too “hollow” and although it kept the putt on line, was struggling with the pace of it 15ft and above by leaving it short usually. Am using a Scotty now, still undecided on which model to go with but interesting to know the comment you made about how the DF3 is more suitable for someone playing a firmer feel vs the Mezz for someone playing Odyssey because it did feel like that. Mezz had to feel I was taking a huge whack for a slight downhill 18 footer. Did it take you long to adjust to the pace of the putts?
Hey! I have actually never tried the Link so i can’t comment on that. Have you tried the different degrees of forward press? You might prefer one with less forward press if you feel like it was too hollow with too much forward press (I’m not sure what degree you tried, it might be the opposite!). I think for me it wasn’t too difficult to adjust to the speed it was more of an adjustment of alignment with the face but everyone’s different 😊
Did you use the thumbs off drill to acclimatise to the L.A.B. putter? I still find the comments around looks astounding, we should love a putter because it makes putts not because of what it looks like. Yes Scotty C's have a traditional look which we regard as "attractive" but if I 3 putt more with it then it stays in the garage.
I have been trying to sale my phantom 5.5 for a while now because I want a LAB putter bad. I will always keep my super old Scotty studio design but. I want to get rid of my other Scotty Phantom X 5.5 2023 with red Scotty cord grip.
Hi Gen, do you use a line on your ball to match the line on the putter? I’ve tried it with mixed success… I also made the mistake of reading some of the more opinionated comments 😑. As a famous football coach once said, if you start listening to the fans, it won’t be long before you’re sitting next to them 😄
I do for shorter putts but it really depends on your preference! If you find it difficult to align it with a line on the ball, I would say just don’t use one. If you use a line you should be aligned to it 100% and trust that line if not, you’re better off not aligning it and just trusting your feel IMO! 😊
I noticed her putting was great, too, but that stat about the pros, I assume that it comes from all putts that they make and some may have a lot of break and uphill/downhill, more difficult than her nearly flat putt. Again, I was impressed with her putting.

@@GenevieveLingGolf Thanks for the reply to my rueful comment! In the current day of $1000 drivers, $500 for a putter seems reasonable enough, it is after all the most used club in the bag. I've been considering a change from my old Ping Anser, will keep an eye out for one to demo.

Golf tournaments are won on the greens. So as pros, I think we would be the most willing to use the latest technologies that can assist with doing something such as keeping a putter face square or be willing to have a weird putting stance or grip that helps keep the stroke more consistent because the putts are the ones that’s gonna determine our careers. Sure confidence (the mental game) is a part of it like I mentioned in the video but why not have a putter that helps keep your stroke more consistent, which in turn will increase your confidence in your stroke and thus in your putting? I don’t see why that is silly.
