Big fan of Sam in this. Actually acknowledging the fact that the putters are a little crazy looking instead of coming up with some marketing line to side step it was refreshing. Seems like a cool guy
Lab owner... this video was really helpful in getting myself back in the right mindset with the putter. I had a "bryson" built armlock that was lights out when I got it and then I started struggling with face control because the lack of torque can sometimes make the head feel weightless if u try to make micro adjustments.... What Sam said about letting the putter do the work absolutely got me back on track with this putter. A few good practice sessions, went back in the bag and dropped a 26 putt round on sunday. 👍
Found Lab Golf at a Club Champion over a year ago using a revealer. I now have a Mezz Max and have seen drastic improvements in my putting consistency. Thanks to Ian and Mike for showcasing Sam's awesome products.
Mezz Max here. Best putter ever. 2 weeks is all you need. Ball more forward. Hand position self corrects. Point and shoot. Longer putts trust the stroke and finish it. I try and comment on all LAB post I see. The biggest advance on putting maybe ever.
Been a LAB user since March 13 2020. Yes, the day before the world shut down. And it has been the only staple in my bag ever. Also, went from 0 to +4 in 6 weeks.
That grinding period with a LAB is reallllll lol however once you surpass it, you’re stroke is unreal! Its even made my putting stroke with conventional putters MUCH better. If you’re curious… i treat it like chipping. All chest and arms in front.
I've had the DF2.1 for about 3 years now. Basically, it's taken me 2 years just to stop trying to manipulate the putter with my hands/wrists. I thought I had a straight back/straight through stroke since I used mallet-style putters for most of my golfing life. However, I actually was making subtle twists/flicks with my hands and wrists to square the face at impact. If you do that with the LAB golf putters, you won't see the benefit of the technology. I think that is why many people initially try them and say they don't like them (as the video showed with Mike's putting). They will require you to change your putting stroke and some people will not want to go through that change, even though you will end up with a much more consistent stroke, at least for direction. Obviously, any putter still needs to allow you to dial in the distance control as well to actually make more putts. I'm a firm believer in this technology and I'm happy that I went through the struggle to change my stroke to work with my LAB putter.
Got put onto lab while watching Bustajack Golf’s videos. Was interesting to see the product for the first time that way. Really cool to see the technical/data side of the game explore this product as well
LAB putters have changed my putting, I had the 2.1 which was fantastic and then switched to the Mezz.1 Max and my confidence on the green has skyrocketed.
I really like Sam, just a cool dude, now one has to try out the LAB putters, makes so much sense and if it helps take of stokes, the looks don’t matter to me. Looking forward to part 2 🎉
Just picked up a Link.1 last week and it’s been great. After 11 years of using a Buttonback NP2 I feel I’m starting the ball on line so much more often with the Link.1.
I bought into the hype about a year and a half ago and purchased the DF 2.1. I didn’t like it at all. Looks and feel. I then purchased a used Mezz in hopes it was a game changer. Did not like the look or feel on that one either. I went back to my Scotty Fastback and played with it since the end of last year. When I saw the DF 3’s smaller profile I decided to give it another go. To say it was the best golf equipment decision I’ve ever made is an understatement. I used it on some practice greens and really started to fall in love with the look, feel and results. I had one Eagle all season back in May. My first round out I made a 25 foot Eagle and shot 72. Went out the next morning unexpectedly because I wanted to see if my 27 putt day was just a fluke. I shot a 74 with ANOTHER 20+ foot eagle! Inside 8 feet putts feel automatic! Just my two cents but couldn’t be happier with this decision! L.A.B. for the win!
I have a Link.1. It took me a long time to adjust to it that I almost threw it away. Now I love it. But every time I get ready for a round, I have to hit a few putts with thumbs and forefingers off the grip to remind me what it feels like to not manipulate the face.
I bought a LAB Link 1 while I was over in England from Scottsdale Golf in Warrington. I received amazing service from them and also their fitter Chris. I am loving the putter it’s turning me from a good putter to a great one. Sam’s comment that take the thumbs off the grip and let the putter take over has just been a lightbulb moment for me the lighter you grip it the better it works. Well done guys PS I’ve had the you spent so much on a putter and still miss a 3’ putt, but I feel more confident and am making more putts than ever before. Thanks Sam and LAB
I picked up the DF three in the PGA superstore at 👥 Myrtle Beach. I thought it felt great and I proceeded to sink four 25 foot putts in a row. That felt strange. I lined up a 50 foot putt on their massive putting green. I made three in a row. I was a little flabbergasted. I couldn’t believe how good it felt and how well the ball roll . Needless to say I wanted to buy the putter right then and there but the price was very high. $559 I just could not pull the trigger with that much money for putter. Maybe someday. But I’m a true believer.
What a great video and it’s great to heard from Mr LAB himself. Biggest issue with putting in my opinion is actually reading greens….once you get that, you’ll be able to putt with anything.
A negative face rotation rate is so amazing, basically trying to stay square through impact! Maybe only toe up putter can do that ? But unlike toe up, LAB do it without shifting the CG of the putter face to the heel, so you are still encouraged to hit the middle of the face! Another benefit of LAB I feel is that it would take the variability of tempo out of place. No matter how quick your tempo is. The face stay square through impact ? I totally intrigued! Gonna have to ask the wife for another birthday present 😅
Fascinating and great interview with the CEO. Recently been fitted into a Mezz Max 1 by Tom Davies at Langland Bay GC utilising Quintix. It was performing night and day better than other putters.
Broom putting tip that's a little crazy-sounding and -looking: left-handed, one-handed only putting strokes. It looks WEIRD, requires slowing the stroke tempo down to about 1/8th with a stroke that's 3x longer, challenges stabilizer and gripping muscles...and teaches you everything you need to know about how to wield a non-anchored broom, and you'll learn why it's even superior to the anchored stroke. Keep sweeping'em everyone! Great video! Sam, you're fantastic and I'm very happy to see how successful L.A.B. is. Cheers!
Sam is a gem. You can tell he believes in what they are doing with their putters. Like them or not, it's obvious that a lot of detail and attention go into them. I've never tried one but will prob grab one soon to see what they're like.
Interesting, i had a bad dose of the yips 15 or so years ago, went to a broom and it was fantastic, difficult on really long putts, but inside 20ft deadly. I had a TIA which wiped my muscle memory, so my neural pathways causing the yips were also wiped. Sean Foley says when giving a lesson, changes take time because of ingrained muscle memory, unless you’ve had a stroke as this wipes muscle memory. I now putt traditionally and it’s wonderful, if the yips ever return i know what club i would reach for. Don’t advocate having a stroke to get rid of the yips, but there’s always an upside to every negative😂
I tried a Mezz .1 at my local golf galaxy before I knew anything about LAB golf and essentially felt everything they claim before I knew what L.A.B. even stood for. A went back and tried it several more times and eventually got fitted online by LAB which was a great experience and special ordered my Mezz .1 with an Accra shaft and I’m so happy with it!
There’s a real reason why these are so expensive. While I could never afford one they totally deserve the price the df is my all time favorite putter I’ve ever used. I don’t care what it looks like personally I kinda like it. If I ever find one in the sub $300 range I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. Literally the last putter I would ever need
Mezz Max worked great for me! Developed a thumbs off grip to let it do its thing. The final piece was starting to game the tour response stripe ball. Note: if you struggle reading the line on putts, LAB will not fix it for you. I myself however wasted years looking down at various high MOI high torque putters swearing at another ball not starting on the line I had in mind just because the frigging face was open or closed. No more of that.
I have used every putter they have... have not tried the df.3 yet. But I can legit say the mezz max broomstick is the best putter out there bar none. As pure of a roll you can get and start line is massively easier to hit
When I learned to putt with out my thumbs on my Mezz max, I basically couldn't miss a putt as long as I got the read right. I feel like any putt from inside 10ft I will be making.
This putter changed my game, the confidence I know have standing over a hard putt alone is worth the price tag haha, I love it, never going back to a traditional putter.
I'm so close to getting a broom stick. I'm a decent putter 32 putts per round. But always have couple three putts or several 4-8 foot putts for par that I miss with blade putter. How much easier is it on shorter putts for you ?
@@muzzleblast88 Since I also am side saddle or face on, I am looking dead down my line, so it is extremely easy. My eyes are seldom misled and there are no misreads due to my eyes being out of position or at an angle where I can be optically misled. I won't say I never miss a short putt, but it is a rare occurrence. My putter forgives a multitude of golf sins.
I put a DF.2 in the bag around 12 months ago after going for a fitting and I think I’d describe it as “I get this but I gamete quite got it just yet” as opposed to love at first sight. Don’t get me wrong, in the fitting process the numbers spoke for themselves but out on the course after delivery, I wasn’t quite getting it right particularly pace wise (that’s why a lot of others who have had L.A.B putters get rid and go back). However… cut to 12 months later and my putting has taken on leaps and bounds and u really can’t see ever using anything else. Sure. It’s not the prettiest and they make no secret of that. But of the 70% of people who go “no I don’t think I could use something like that” I reckon 70% of those who give it a try you “you know what… that’s realllly nice” My advice to anyone who goes for one. Put your old putter in safe keeping for a few months and just figure it out like they say in the video. It’ll come. And when it does, it’ll make your old putter feel trying to guide a sledgehammer
I was thinking about switching to a Mezz 1. I was trying one while waiting for a club fitting, and it felt like I could do no worse than a 2 putt. But the price tag for a lefty club was $550
Great video guys! Sam is very insightful, and his putters represent a perspective on the true science behind putting. Would love a deeper dive into Broom vs Armlock next! Thx guys
I tried the DF3 on a high quality indoor putting green at a big golf retail store. I putted with it for well over an hour and alternated the DF3 with my gamer Odyssey Ten mallet. Bottom line is that I didn’t putt any better with the DF3. Maybe this was too small of a sample size and that it would take days or weeks to adapt my stroke to it, but I don’t think so. I get the lie angle balance argument. It makes sense from a physics standpoint, and it’s surprising that it is just now showing up in the putter market. But here’s the thing: at the velocities that a putter head is moving the moment of inertia (MOI) is so low as to be pretty much insignificant. What I mean is that when I accelerate my toe hanging mallet putter the MOI and associated torque of putter head is easily controlled by modest grip pressure. In other words, the acceleration torque that LAB putters aim to control is essentially insignificant compared to putter grip pressure and other micro twisting movements applied by the hands. Therefore, IMHO, the most significant improvements in putting come from refining one’s putting stroke, not by buying a $500+ putter. That said, if more pros start using LAB putters, I’m open to giving them more of a try.
I tried a Mezz1 but I didn’t like how it felt over a few rounds. So I traded it for a Phantom 5.5, but my putting was way worse. Then I went back and got me a DF3, and wow. But I had to get over the shape. It is weird. Now that I’m used to it, the only other putter I would consider is maybe a broomstick style. I’m sold on the technology and how it can make putting more consistent. Obviously you’re not going to make every putt, but knowing that face is going to stay square all the time really gives a lot of confidence. Try a DF3 if you haven’t.
Ive just bought the DF3. Worked really well in the fitting process and was suprised how much difference it made compared with my current putter TM spider GT. hope it works as well on the course 😂
Really interested in trying out the broomstick. I get hot with one putter and then lose it after a while until I get fit into a new one. I think this might be the end all, just a hefty price to not have the ability to try it out on real greens
Love my DF 2.1, for nothing less it shows me that if I allow the putter do what it does I putt much better. I am also a heads up putter the stability is unmatched.
Trying to decide between a link and a mezz max. Really like the look of the link and that’s My preference at the moment, my only thought is I might find the Mezz easier to line up? Got a second fitting next week on grass rather than in a studio.
I owned the Mezz and while I was able to hit it straight I have issues with distance control when using mallets. Moved to the LINK and have never looked back.
recently got a LAB DF 2.1, can't stress enough what Sam said you need to give it a while to get out of the way of the putter and just let it do it's thing. After that it comes down to reading greens and rocking your shoulders. When I'm missing putts now it's down to alignment, or I'm trying to mess around with the putter and not letting it get square. My buddies laughed at first when they saw it, but after I started draining massive putts the laughing stopped real quick.
My only complaint about LAB putters is that it totally sucks when I need to use a non-LAB putter. I completely agree that if people had only putted with a LAB the “best way of putting” would be very different than current conventional.
I'd love to play the Mezz or Link, just too firm for my personal liking using a X model ball, if they ever worked out some kind of insert and could balance it all out, I'd hand over my money
Really enjoyed the conversation with you and Sam. I have the Mezz Max and only played 6 rounds with it and Sam’s comment that you really need to let yourself figure it out makes sense. I can’t wait for spring to come and become friends with my new LAB putter.
I recommend new owners putt with their eyes closed for a while on the practice green. Neutral set up, then close eyes, concentrating on moving the shoulders only. When there's nothing to look or peek at, the stroke tends to fall into place faster.
I remember how hard I laughed years ago when L.A.B. putters came onto the scene, and the putter was described as "a toilet seat for a chihuahua." Mine's arriving Tuesday via FedEx. 😏
drove 2 hours to get this.....4th attempt at lab. after putting for 2 hours i just couldnt do it. i liked the smaller look, but ultimately my putting way worse than most other putters. oddly i had much better luck with the blade version. almost pulled the trigger. it was oddly super light compared to df3. ended up with evnroll neo..er8
I’ve been thinking about LAB putter or VOID putter replacing my current one in the bag. I’m curious if there’s even a comparison. Or if VOID is too much of a startup.
I’ve come to the conclusion that testing the LAB putter this way can cause issues. You get too focused on micromanaging the face to be perfectly straight. It wasn’t until I putt on real greens with slopes and all that I used it properly. Once I did that the proper use was automatic. Just take it back how far you want it to go and release it. DF 2.1 is in the bag now.
I would prefer a smaller footprint size and think perhaps they need to use some Carbon at the back to offset requiring so many weights and reduce the head size substantially
Haha - gotta love Sm - Tour players do not want to be made fun of for pulling a giant space ship out of their bag 🤣I love all my LAB Golf putters including the Star Fleet
During the Monday live, Sam explained there is no such thing as a straight back straight forward. The key is have the the putter face square to your path (arc) the entire path and that is what it is designed to do. Question - is the amount of arc / stroke path influenced by the lie angle? I was fitted to 65° does this mean my arc should be more pronounced than say a 70° like angle? Not a physics expert so would appreciate an explanation.
Mostly, yes. The only ways to get your path exactly straight back & straight through are: 1. Extending your arms as you go back, then pulling them back in as you approach the ball 2. A 90 degree lie angle (which is illegal) That's the magic of the broomstick - getting to the edge of the rules and very close to a passive pendulum with no arc. I use a Mezz Max and one of the things I had to get used to is NOT fighting to keep it from opening (relative to my line) & trusting that it will close back up on the way down, because it does. The no-thumbs drill is a great way to get past this mental block, which is why Sam recommends it. Sam is a great guy. He'll even directly reply to questions on the GolfWRX forums. I think his putters will continue to gain popularity & at some point LAB will get bought out by one of the big four or PXG.
So the arc that the putter head draws on the ground is pretty irrelevant. Weather you're at 65 or 70, you still want to feel like the SHAFT moves on plane. The arc will take care of itself. Seach "lab golf putting board" and you'll see what i Mean.
I personally couldn’t quite dial my distance in based on feel. And I think that is more important than line. Perhaps it’s the weight as I’m used to lighter putters. Is there any fitting for pace control? Thanks
@@samhahn6950Would it be possible to get down to around 330g? I typically play putters between 34-35in. The model I tried at the time was the DF 2.1 but I'd prefer a shape more like the Link. Thanks for the response, Sam.

I use a broomhandle L.A.B. putter and I couldn't be happier with it. Looks be darned, my "branding iron" is more like a magic wand.
But of the 70% of people who go “no I don’t think I could use something like that” I reckon 70% of those who give it a try you “you know what… that’s realllly nice”
My advice to anyone who goes for one.
But the price tag for a lefty club was $550
Just do it. You'll keep it way longer than a similarly priced driver.
Worked really well in the fitting process and was suprised how much difference it made compared with my current putter TM spider GT. hope it works as well on the course 😂
new putters for the boys?. Club Champion full bag fitting booked next Monday, feels like Christmas as a kid again
What a timely video! I am looking at the LINK.1 and sent my video in to L.A.B. for their remote fitting.
I got my results last night and placed an order for the LINK.1 with the Accra shaft.
The putter head acceleration should be near zero. I love the sound of their blade putter, beautiful. I would love to try it and the mid size one.
Yaaaaassss I love some LAB putters
I wish I never tried a LAB putter, can't get it out of my mind, going to have to get one....
Just tried one today. I didn’t want to like it, but I left the store totally captivated by it. I just completed the fitting video.
Also love the fact Sam’s luggage is in the background. Guy is a model for every single business leader.
What's the performance differences/rankings between each head? The DP3 or the Mezz / Mezz Max heads is what I'd be interested in
I owned the Mezz and while I was able to hit it straight I have issues with distance control when using mallets.
Love my lab putters. Have 5 of them.
Me too!! Hahaha
Love the 2.1 for sidesaddle putting
Incredibly stable putters. Great putter line great company 🥊🥊
Great product. Highly recommended
SAMMMMM! Great Video fellas! Love my L.A.B. putter!
What makes me want one is that they are different and look really good
Been considering making the jump from a Scotty. May have to do it this year.
I need to see more about these grips, totally unique idea! #lovethat
The 2deg pistol grip is amazing.
Wow, looking forward to the broom handle testing
My only complaint about LAB putters is that it totally sucks when I need to use a non-LAB putter. I completely agree that if people had only putted with a LAB the “best way of putting” would be very different than current conventional.
Bingo
I like the companies try new ideas, but get him a TXG hat with a better bill! 😂
I’ll give it a roll. Who wouldn’t want to at least give the concept a go if it means a few less putts.
I'd love to play the Mezz or Link, just too firm for my personal liking using a X model ball, if they ever worked out some kind of insert and could balance it all out, I'd hand over my money
100% agree. Ping and oddessey are so soft off the face
Is there a difference between Lie Angle Balance, Edel Torque Balanced, and maybe the old Odyssey Backstryke and toe-up? Thanks!
I'm definitely going to look into the mezz and link.
Just ordered the new df3 can't wait
Really enjoyed the conversation with you and Sam. I have the Mezz Max and only played 6 rounds with it and Sam’s comment that you really need to let yourself figure it out makes sense. I can’t wait for spring to come and become friends with my new LAB putter.
Definitely search for "lab golf thumbs off" and "Lab golf lag putting" here on youtube to accelerate the learn curve!
I recommend new owners putt with their eyes closed for a while on the practice green. Neutral set up, then close eyes, concentrating on moving the shoulders only. When there's nothing to look or peek at, the stroke tends to fall into place faster.
They embrace the science instead of cosmetics appreciate all the work boys and girls
I need one of th horseshoe putters in a flat/ matte purple
I remember how hard I laughed years ago when L.A.B. putters came onto the scene, and the putter was described as "a toilet seat for a chihuahua."
Mine's arriving Tuesday via FedEx. 😏
drove 2 hours to get this.....4th attempt at lab. after putting for 2 hours i just couldnt do it. i liked the smaller look, but ultimately my putting way worse than most other putters. oddly i had much better luck with the blade version. almost pulled the trigger. it was oddly super light compared to df3. ended up with evnroll neo..er8
I love my link.1. It’s not going anywhere. Don’t feel like their is a better putter imo
Great video what CC studio is that?
I’ve been thinking about LAB putter or VOID putter replacing my current one in the bag. I’m curious if there’s even a comparison. Or if VOID is too much of a startup.
AVoid
Thanks for this vid. What are the dimensions of the new DF3 putter head?
I’ve come to the conclusion that testing the LAB putter this way can cause issues. You get too focused on micromanaging the face to be perfectly straight. It wasn’t until I putt on real greens with slopes and all that I used it properly. Once I did that the proper use was automatic. Just take it back how far you want it to go and release it. DF 2.1 is in the bag now.
I had the big starship version and loved it but hated the look. How ever this d3🎉 looks and maybe…… what was the shaft in that d3?
I tend to forward press as a trigger , I play an evenroll . Would I be able to forward press with the df3 ?
I would prefer a smaller footprint size and think perhaps they need to use some Carbon at the back to offset requiring so many weights and reduce the head size substantially
Great video 👊⛳️🏌️♂️
Haha - gotta love Sm - Tour players do not want to be made fun of for pulling a giant space ship out of their bag 🤣I love all my LAB Golf putters including the Star Fleet
These putters are good, I got a link and putted great last year lol
During the Monday live, Sam explained there is no such thing as a straight back straight forward. The key is have the the putter face square to your path (arc) the entire path and that is what it is designed to do. Question - is the amount of arc / stroke path influenced by the lie angle? I was fitted to 65° does this mean my arc should be more pronounced than say a 70° like angle? Not a physics expert so would appreciate an explanation.
Mostly, yes. The only ways to get your path exactly straight back & straight through are:
1. Extending your arms as you go back, then pulling them back in as you approach the ball
2. A 90 degree lie angle (which is illegal)
That's the magic of the broomstick - getting to the edge of the rules and very close to a passive pendulum with no arc.
Thanks
Mostly gotta feel it out but we do offer different weight options. Which model did you try?
@@samhahn6950Would it be possible to get down to around 330g? I typically play putters between 34-35in. The model I tried at the time was the DF 2.1 but I'd prefer a shape more like the Link.
Thanks for the response, Sam.
A buddy has one and I tried it yesterday. I hit like 10 putts in a row from about 5 feet. With my putter I hit 3.
Sooooooo did you buy one??
@@ianfrasergolf called my PGA store to get fitted but they didn’t have it. Looking for one
I’ve played the DF2.1 for a couple of years and will never go back to a conventional putter. #LABrat
