In the song Legacy, I believe that effect on his voice was to represent him having no confidence as he was describing himself being bullied in the first 2 verses, but in the last verse, he has no effect on his voice due to him being much more confident in himself being on the attacking position rather than defensive

I've been a fan since MMLP was released, and I agree with you for the most part. However, I do think his lyrical genius really shines in his later albums. His flows are incredible, featuring double and triple entendres, but many of these are hard to understand if you're not familiar with his personal life, feuds, politics, and other contexts. As a Stan myself, I'm biased, of course, but in my humble opinion, lyrically, Kamikaze and MTBM are his best works. Great video, by the way! Keep up the good work, and you'll reach a thousand subscribers in no time.

I'm probably gonna comment a lot. In separate chunks. For the algorithm, but because I'm a geezer I may get to add some different perspective. Slim Shady LP is held and high regard but it didn't really change any landscape as much as ppl like to say, but it did bring a new target audience. The things that you are rightfully admonishing it for, was common in hip-hop at the time; so sonically crossing over one self like that wasn't so uncommon, as for rush rapping to fit the whole verse in was normal (Jay Z and Nas does the same thing in that era). Until rappers like BIG master crossing over bars, and being super specific about rhyme landings. I mean technically Kool G Rap did the same but Kool G wasn't allowed to be main stream and Big L mastered the specific timing in inner rhyming, despite not living very long But Redman (a direct influence for Eminem) and Busta Rhymes perfected a speed version of it in 1998. Out of sync rapping like that didn't become a deal breaker until like 98-99.
I clicked this video on a whim and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. It's nice seeing somebody's opinion on Eminem who isn't a long time fan, through the lens of modern sensibilities. Definitely keep it up, I'm subbed

This is a great and very fair review! Fair play to you! I also LOVE Relapse! So underrated. Eminent men fell off when he took the criticism for that album too seriously and changed him forever!
I'd say that another standout in recovery is cold wind blows, everything from the intro to god's interruption from the hook feels so compact and smooth even with the hard delivery... definetly a top 3 song of the album
Yep, he probably thought the voice sounded weird because of bad autotune, when it's just Eminem messing with layering his voice (I'm not a fan of the way he does it either)
U should also check out other eminem projects like : 8 mile soundtrack, D12 devils night, D12 world, Re-up, ShadyXV, Hell: The Sequel and maybe the slim shady EP. Nice analysis and I really enjoyed it!
You owe it to yourself to read the comments of the official “not afraid”. If you do you’ll get what I mean. So if you have neighbor who is playing too loud on a loop you may want to be patient and realize that somebody may going through something and they are trying to be strong. I always liked the song but didn’t realize until recently what it means for some people. Good video man, thanks
The reason steve berman mentioned 2 albums in his relapse skit was because originally em made relapse, and relapse 2 But after the backlash he got from relapse, he scrapped the sequel and made recovery instead Hes talked about this in many interviews
@blazing_cactus Also, when relapse 2 was scrapped, 5 of the songs were thrown onto 'Relapse: Refill', an extended edition of relapse, and in 2011, a bunch of songs from the relapse and recovery recording sessions were leaked, Back in 2022 em confirmed that even with all the leaks and songs from Refill, there is still a full Relapse 2 album that no-one has heard anything from.
Dude I’m not gonna lie I was definitely ready to hate at around 4 mins in but you’ve slowly won me over!! I’m 26 mins in and I’ve just realised you certainly have a good ear. Relapse is fantastic!! lol.
"Homophobia & misogynist", OK gen Z. Eminem is like a real life MK character, his words is his weapons so he's for a from a "misogynist" if u want 2 1 they will put 🔥 rocks on your spine. But that's rich coming f a guy Progressive saying "I listen to Hip Hop so you don't have to" basically putting people close minded thoughts who never lived in a Ruff neighborhood
Great vid. Relapse is honestly my favorite. If you want to do this again for another artist I would like to suggest Insane Clown Posse. They're real old school and have history with Eminem. Lots of creative music using circus related themes. Funny but can also be serious at times.
Ooh that's tough. I think I'd have to go with The Real Slim Shady. The beat is fire, the lyrics are on point, and the flow is all the way in the pocket. I feel like that song is totally emblematic of who Eminem is as an artist and it encapsulates his persona perfectly
@blazing_cactus that's awesome, I recently learned how to play the beat and or melody on my guitar, and I have to agree with your choice, and soilder and till I collapse are a few of my favorites as far as his older songs
Subscribed. This was a great video. I admit I'm one of those fans that dipped out after anything beyond TES, because nothing has grabbed me since, but you've convinced me to check out Relapse again. For another artist to check out, you can't go wrong with MF DOOM. His songs overall had a light hearted, playful tone to them with lyrics that weren't afraid of being silly, but then when you really start to pay attention to the word play, you begin to realise this dude was one of the best lyricists in the genre. Also his production is the type of stuff I personally prefer in hip hop. Just an all around super creative dude. RIP DOOM.
I’m at the Recovery segment and I’m not sure if you bring this up way later for some reason but Relapse has like a pretty big deluxe edition of 9 tracks called “Relapse: Refill” and I think you’d like to check it out cuz yk…it’s more Relapse Also MTBMB has a huge deluxe edition just called “side B” and I think you’d rly like the last song “Discombobulated.” Cuz it’s kinda just Relapse.
You HAVE to listen to relapse refill, it’s like a deluxe album with new tracks. Refill has 10 and the are just as good or even better than the original relapse
Love the video. Love your commentary, very knowledgeable and interesting with no bias. But just wait for when them crazy psychopats called Stans gonna find out about this. Haha. Anyway, great content man! Have a great one.
Very well done video and great review. Enjoyed seeing your thoughts on these albums. Definitely would like to see more of this kind of content. While this isnt related to hip hop, I am curious to see what your thoughts would be on Jamiroquai's studio albums. While they have done different genres they are most known for doing Acid jazz and funk. I think you might enjoy some of their stuff.
I came in to hate because i thought you would hate, but fair points and criticism. Edit: I finished the video just now. Good job. Great points and I didnt notice any unreasonable or stupid takes.
Amazing review! As far as suggestions for other artists I feel like you would enjoy Kendrick Lamar’s (much smaller) discography and also would like to see your analysis of the beef between him and drake. On Kendrick’s side at least, I feel like the musicality and content would keep you interested
Amazing video! I don't agree with everything, but I do agree with a LOT of it. Really happy to see another Relapse enjoyer. It's probably my second favorite of his behind Recovery. I just love it. The rhymes and flow are next level. And I hate to admit how much I love Buffalo Bill and Stay Wide Awake. And the part on Must Be the Ganja where he talks about name every serial killer in a row, beginning with Jack the Ripper... one of my favorite segments of any of his songs. I think the only song I don't like is Beautiful, same as you. Something about it just isn't to my liking at all. Encore... So I used to hate this album. In fact it wasn't until I gave it a fresh listen when The Death of Slim Shady came out that I actually gave it another chance. And I listened to it from a different perspective on flow. And while I think 90% of the songs are middling to bad, I think there are segments in most of the songs that are just phenomenal. I forget the names of the songs I'm thinking of, but his flow on some of those sections is stellar, still. That's the saving grace for me. Still my least favorite album from him, but no longer my "most hated." Just least favorite. And completely agreed on Evil Deeds having an amazing beat but a horrendous chorus. Good choruses are an issue for him, I think, especially in his later albums, but Encore is so much worse about it. Revival is an album I very much enjoy, but it is probably his most inconsistent album. But man, for me that In Your Head, Castle, Arose one-two-three punch is incredible. In Your Head is one of my favorites from him. I can see why people don't like it, but I think it's underrated as a result. Not the best album, but not a bad one. I would say his flow is pretty choppy, though, frustratingly slow. When people talk about him having a choppy flow recently, I immediately think about that album. Kamikaze took me a few listens to appreciate. I think Nice Guy is one of his worst choruses of all time. But the majority of the other tracks I like well enough. It loses steam as it goes on, though. Music To Get Murdered By is his most unmemorable album for me. I always forget it was even a thing, to be honest. It's fine. But man, other than Godzilla, I have a hard time remembering any single song on it. Very uncharacteristic of his stuff for me. Marshall Mathers LP 2 I love, but I would say it has a Recovery aspect to it in that it went for hooks first and every song sounds so different. I love Recovery, like I said, but something I will say is that it has a lot of inconsistency in sound. It can sound like a completely different album depending on what song you land on. Marshall Mathers LP 2 has that issue, too. It's a minor one, but I think it's an important one to talk about! Death of Slim Shady I have been sort of disappointed by. It has a very "I've still got it, right fellow kids?" feel to a lot of it. But then... he does still have it in some tracks. His flow on some stuff hearkens back to his MMLP days, in fact. But then he ruins some of it by doing that dumb [make a wordplay], [explain the wordplay] thing that he has started doing a little too much recently. Disclaimer: I am still kind of learning about flow, what makes a good flow, what makes a bad one. So I might be off the mark on an objective analysis. But I'm trying to understand better! Anyways. Wonderful video. I love your musical background feedback on it. Melodies, chord progression, production, etc. It's not often I heard that kind of stuff on here!
Thanks man, it's so cool to hear your takes on the catalog! I agree with a lot of it, and yeah it's kinda weird how he likes to explain the wordplay sometimes. That even happens early on, like on MMLP when he says "get it? checking the male? ;D" At any rate, I appreciate you checking out the video. Rock on!
I started listening to rap in the past few years as well, and eminem is tied for 1st with 3 other people for me as the goat. I think the mmlp is his best work but recovery was amazing and is #2, with relapse at 3, and beautiful being the best :) I loved the vid tho
Loved the video dude! I would absolutely recommend Kendrick Lamar's discography. I especially think you'll resonate with To Pimp A Butterfly and Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, but the production, arrangements, and instrumentation across his discography are immaculate (lots of Dre collaboration interspersed). That's not even getting into his masterful wordplay, rhyme schemes, and flow. There's a reason Eminem himself holds Kendrick in such high regard (just check out the story behind how he was featured on "Love Game: in MMLP2).
@@blazing_cactus Awesome! I understand your hesitation to breach a genre that seems to have different priorities when it comes to delivering a musical message too. I think you'll find, though, that depending on the artist you find, you'll see aspects like melody and harmony showcased to varying degrees. Ben Shapiro once dismissively stated that Hip Hop shouldn't even be considered music because it "only has rhythm while lacking both melody and harmony". I know that's not what you were saying, but I just wanted to highlight an example of how some of those early assumptions you had about the genre can bloom into completely braindead takes about the art form. Much love and godspeed on your musical journey!
@@timothyeverett603 wow, Shapiro's really showing feelings over facts on that take. All of the comments on this just goes to show how much hip hop has to offer beyond rhythm
The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are my favorite albums by him. Those 2 albums imo, are peak Eminem. Also, even though Eminem is even a much better lyricist today, I still think those two albums is his best work because everything felt meaningful back then rather than rapping fast and bending all types of words that rhyme together.

U should also check out other eminem projects like : 8 mile soundtrack, D12 devils night, D12 world, Re-up, ShadyXV, Hell: The Sequel and maybe the slim shady EP.
Nice analysis and I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for the recommendations! I recently watched 8 Mile and really enjoyed it
“Cause I have zero doubts, that this whole worlds bout to turn into some Girl Scouts”
That is certainly one of the bars of all time
You owe it to yourself to read the comments of the official “not afraid”. If you do you’ll get what I mean. So if you have neighbor who is playing too loud on a loop you may want to be patient and realize that somebody may going through something and they are trying to be strong. I always liked the song but didn’t realize until recently what it means for some people. Good video man, thanks
The reason steve berman mentioned 2 albums in his relapse skit was because originally em made relapse, and relapse 2
But after the backlash he got from relapse, he scrapped the sequel and made recovery instead
Hes talked about this in many interviews
Ah. Thanks for clarifying
@blazing_cactus
Also, when relapse 2 was scrapped, 5 of the songs were thrown onto 'Relapse: Refill', an extended edition of relapse, and in 2011, a bunch of songs from the relapse and recovery recording sessions were leaked,
Back in 2022 em confirmed that even with all the leaks and songs from Refill, there is still a full Relapse 2 album that no-one has heard anything from.
u missed the side B of MTBMB
Its deluxe edition of music to be murdered by not a separated album.

Phenomenal video. Thanks man
Thank you!
im so glad you like MTBMB, i love that album
Oh bud we have a long way to go.
Great vid. Relapse is honestly my favorite. If you want to do this again for another artist I would like to suggest Insane Clown Posse. They're real old school and have history with Eminem. Lots of creative music using circus related themes. Funny but can also be serious at times.
Sounds interesting! Thanks for the recommendation
Great vid, would love to see the same thing but for DMX albums 🙌🏻
WOW. That's a lot of info! Good job.
Thanks for checking it out!
If you had to pick one single song to be your favorite, what would it be?
RIP DOOM.
Thanks for watching! I'll definitely check out DOOM
props for stepping out of your comort zone
I’m at the Recovery segment and I’m not sure if you bring this up way later for some reason but Relapse has like a pretty big deluxe edition of 9 tracks called “Relapse: Refill” and I think you’d like to check it out cuz yk…it’s more Relapse
Also MTBMB has a huge deluxe edition just called “side B” and I think you’d rly like the last song “Discombobulated.” Cuz it’s kinda just Relapse.
Great commentary & analysis.
Good job man !! 🎉🎉🎉 keep doing
Thanks man!
Damn that was an awesome review
@@nathansacramento thanks dude!
You HAVE to listen to relapse refill, it’s like a deluxe album with new tracks. Refill has 10 and the are just as good or even better than the original relapse
Yo you deserve so many more subs keep growing man ✌️✌️❤
great review, definitely do a follow up vid on his upcoming album this month :)
Love the video. Love your commentary, very knowledgeable and interesting with no bias. But just wait for when them crazy psychopats called Stans gonna find out about this. Haha. Anyway, great content man! Have a great one.
Thanks so much dude! Have a good one yourself :D
DONT YOU DARE ATTACK BEAUTIFUL
I KNOW BRO THIS DUDE IS DELUSIONAL IT IS MAYBE THE BEST SONG ON RELAPSE
@@daravenboi its insane.
i just realized that insane is also a song on relapse no i meant that this song is insanely good
I came in to hate because i thought you would hate, but fair points and criticism.
Edit: I finished the video just now. Good job. Great points and I didnt notice any unreasonable or stupid takes.
Phew! Glad to hear it
Amazing review!
That even happens early on, like on MMLP when he says "get it? checking the male? ;D"
At any rate, I appreciate you checking out the video. Rock on!
I started listening to rap in the past few years as well, and eminem is tied for 1st with 3 other people for me as the goat. I think the mmlp is his best work but recovery was amazing and is #2, with relapse at 3, and beautiful being the best :) I loved the vid tho
I already have listened to all of his albums including d12, compilations and bad meets evil
Honestly, it's about damn time Relapse got a little more love. It was never as bad as people made it out to be.
I'll check those out, thanks!
