Totally disagree with the MTBMB ranking. The beats and production is top notch. The theme throughout the album on both sides stayed consistent under the murder theme. The features added to the album. Gave respect to the game by shouting out legends. Yes he had fun and he rhymed a word with orange. Word play is insane. New world record with Godzilla. Darkness entire song was a double. Em dissing like he always does. Brought back accents in Discombobulated. No way this is his 10th best album. A great listen and has some great replay value in today’s taste in music because the production goes hard. Yah yah and You Gon’ Learn are awesome.
I mean its def better than kamikaze and mmlp2 but thats it tbh, yea it stays consistent but conceptually it doesnt come close to his 3 album runs and relapse/recovery. Technically em is better on mtbmb than any album in his discography, but imo it doesn’t capture the emotion his older work does nor does it have the same passion and voice either
@@TheTasterr imo MTBMB recapture everything in term of emotion and his voice to his old work and is better than recovery which felt forced and ungenuine on alot of tracks. Relisten Premonition, stepdad, leaving heaven; stepdad and tell me he doesn't sound like old Em on those songs. The album is inconsistent in term of his concept but that doesn't mean its bad either
Thank you for the Recovery appreciation. That was Eminem doing the pop-rap thing correctly. Quality beats, verses and hooks. All cohesive and every song made sense on the track list. I was cool with it back then (I was 15) and when I return to it I still love it. Number 4 or 5 for me.
@@NFRPodcast recovery and encore are both better than Relapse to me. Encore hate on the internet is baffling to me. That is my fourth favorite Eminem album behind TES, MMLP & SSLP.
For me it isnt correctly! The vibe is the most importent thing for me in Hip Hop and I cant vibe with Eminem screaming his soul out of himself and the pop hooks make it worse for me.
This might be controversial but relapse is my favorite Eminem album. I like how crazy and different that album is compared to his others. MMlp being a close 2nd.
It’s not controversial when you say it’s your favorite, that’s what you like and enjoy the most, now if you said if that it is his best then that would be controversial lol, but Relapse is dope some of his best flows and wordplay, with experimental Sounds. Such a dope album
A few takeaways. 1. I'm over 10 years older than you guys so lived through those album releases and Encore definitely wasn't his most controversial album. It was Marshall Mathers LP. Everyday on mainstream news there were protests over it from various groups and he was by far the biggest artist in the world at the time and the fact he was white and had a specific style lent himself to more fans than most rappers at the time. 2. I absolutely agree 100% with the Relapse ranking and analysis. I know people always shit on it but I think the concept is insane and Same Song and Dance is one of the craziest concepts and hooks ever. 3. I think one thing people often overlook with the 3 album in a row classic is that he also came out with a hit movie (8 Mile) about his life and his signature and biggest song (Lose Yourself) with a whole soundtrack in 2002 also. He was at his absolute peak in 2002 so there was nowhere to go but down. Awesome analysis guys!
TES to me is probably the album with the greatest singles in any music genre. It rarely happens that the singles are my favorite tracks, but with TES it's different. I mean, "Sing for the Moment" and "Cleanin' out my Closet" are in my all-time top 3 Em songs, and "Superman" is in my top 10. And "Without Me" was such a perfect first single, to me personally the best one out of all his "goofy" first singles. I really can't think of another album that had such strong singles. The only one that comes close is MMLP lol. P.S.: I'd love to see you guys ranking Outkast's discography. I believe they have the greatest discography in hip hop and my personal ranking pretty much changes every week.
Honestly it is my favorite album too along with Relapse. There is literally no song in TES I don’t like. White America, Business, Cleanin’ out my closet, square dance (super underrated), Business, Soldier, Say Goodbye Hollywood, Drips (oddly underrated), Without Me, Sing For The Moment, Superman, Hailie’s Song, WTMS, Say What You Say, Till I Collapse, My Dad’s Gone Crazy. Damn I literally said every song.

The Eminem Show is my number 1 Em album. That Steve Berman Skit says it all. When Steve told Em it was the most incredible thing he’s ever herd as he got shot by Em. This album is in my top 5 rap albums
I feel his albums artistically got worse overtime as a result of him getting better and better as a rapper and lyricist. But now he’s so good and technical that not much people can relate to it anymore. Regardless, he still remains one of the greats. He still records daily like it’s his 9-5 job. You never know if he might surprise us in the future.
I understand where your coming from and I don’t fully disagree. The only reason I disagree on it is just because of my own preference on my own enjoyment from his albums.
I disagree. Saying his albums got artistically worse because he became better at the art doesn't make any sense. What makes Eminems later albums suffer, is that they fail conceptually, he tries his hardest to experiment with a new flow that is incredibly sloppy and his beat selection is just not good. And...he doesn't really seem to care 😕
I dont understand how you can say that a he is getting worse at rapping by getting better at it. When could people ever relate to his music and in what ways?
I'M SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY SAID RELAPSE IS UNDERRATED AND CRITICS PUT IT DOWN FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON! Honestly he never should've apologized for that album, it's incredible.
I still like Recovery a lot. Overlooked in my opinion, that's a top 3 Em project. In my 100% honest opinion, I think I like Recovery the most out of all Em's albums. His best is either Eminem Show or MMLP.
Recovery is a white boy classic dude. Not Afraid, No love, love the way u lie?! Space bound, 25 to life, talking to myself, going through changes On fire, won’t back down, WTP All Great&arguably classic (hot take) That makes up for the misses to me 9/10
@@godlike3605 I would rank what I've heard from Kamikaze last or up there. Slim Shady LP isn't good to me really. Encore is the worst album probably. Relapse it's 75% trash then some great songs. My favorite song Underground is on there as well. There is no hits from Slim Shady or Kamikaze I care about. Encore had like 3 great hits no good other tracks really. And Revival is just solid. Plenty of good songs. Not many bad ones
*The thing is MTBMB/SIDE-B is New Gen Eminem Stan’s (like myself) favorite album because it has so much replay value! Top lyricism, great beats/production, memorable hooks and overall a fun project. It’s honestly my top 2 favorite project from him (I’m 16 btw).* Kamikaze is also dope af. I’d put these two above MMLP2 And Recovery personally… honestly he only ever had two duds in his discography (Encore/Revival and they weren’t that bad like many say, they’re overhated) like many legends in hip hop. Pretty consistent tbf
Ooft trust me, sit down and actually listen to TES and MMLP 2, at least give those a go. They both have the best of Eminem, Production, Lyrically insane and story telling.
The Eminem Show rarely gets the love it deserves. I feel like it’s always coming 2nd or 3rd to SSLP and MMLP. The Eminem Show is one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s Eminem really maturing as an artist and delivering some of his most personal tracks. He still gives us the theatrical “Slim Shady” alter ego on a couple tracks, but this is a much more serious listen. It has iconic production from Dre and Em, incredible writing, and smooth/motivational flows and delivery.
Really like the content guys! With every announcement I've gone through every album and relistened every song you've mentioned. Lovely experience to go back to them
Ive always loved Relapse but my favourite Eminem album has to be The Slim Shady LP his flow on that album just breezes through perfectly brilliantly written!
Having Kamikaze at 9 is soooo crazy to me especially after all you said about it. Yeah it wasn’t really a full project but fuck it it was an awesome project. Definitely should be higher than Infinite.

Relapse one of the most underrated albums of all time honestly. Has such a cool theme with all the darkness and shady concept. and lyricism and flows and beats are dope asf. He gets deep with almost every song and every song has a purpose/ theme.
Relapse from my first listen has always been my favorite. Objectively it’s definitely not his best but I’ll forever be not only my favorite em album, but one of my favorite of all time
Mtbmb according to me was great. He had crazy hooks and rhymes on it. Probably not his best but I wouldn’t give it 10th. My ranking- 1. MMLP 2. ‘Em show 3. SSLP 4. Relapse 5. Mtbmb 6. Recovery 7. Kamikaze 8. Mmlp2 9. Encore 10. Infinite 11. Revival
I agree. The album is not Perfect and the concept (murder through music, stories and bars) could have been executed better but gosh I love hearing him having fun again, something he didn't have for a long time. Every since Recovery he always made album in response to his previous and for that he just wanted to make music for himself and his fans and I respect that. Not to mention the production which is his best since Relapse and the flow. The flow throughout this project is what got me cause he sounds in perfect control of his voics and cadence, something he lost during the mmlp2 revival and even kamikaze era where he was too much aggressive while here, he is calm but still passionnate and emotional in his voice and he sounds so young, i'm not joking eminem sounds 10 year younger on this project than any project he dond in the past 10 years. Very solid project imo. Also Stepdad is underrated as fuck. It's a rollercoaster in term of storytelling, violence, imagery and emotion. The beat and the hook aren't the best yes but they work with the concept of the song, just like the concept they are made to be disturbing and reproduce the mindset of a young kid. Top 25 eminem song period along with Premonition and Never love again.
I personnaly don't agree with their placing but I respect their opinion and I think they have fair points for each project except for MTBMB which I feel they kind of got wrong.
You guys are young but spot on with ranking! I was 14 when my mom bought me the slim shady lp... diehard eminem fan... slim shady #1 for me then mmlp... and the rest of your list is the same as mine! Great job guys!
Happy to see Relapse getting it's dues. Super underrated. I really think the reason that it was hated at the time (other than the accents) is because of the timing. He was coming back from a hiatus and people just wanted to return to before and instead he subverted expectations with a dark concept album. People just weren't ready for it at the time
i kinda agreed when this video dropped 2 years back. Now after binging on eminem discography for years, i think except revival and half of encore rest all are totally listenable and has immense repeat value. GOATed discography.

Unpopular opinion: if Encore, relapse, recovery, revival, kamikaze and Music to be murdered by were his only albums, he’d still be top 5 lyricist of all time. People compare his new stuff to his old, always forgetting, THIS IS THE SAME GUY.
Coming from a huge em Stan, I can understand how people don't like albums like revival and encore. But mtbmb rlly is a good album and I don't get how people hate it

As a little kid the recovery album was the first album i heard and even today i still bump the whole album number 1 song i bump the most is talkin 2 myself
The SSLP is the rawest version of Eminem’s crazy enough, I think a lot of MMLP was recorded during the same sessions. I’m surprised I didn’t hear anything about 97 Bonnie & Clyde or Kim. S a kid, Kim scared the F*** out of me.
I think the one album that does get overlooked because of how different it is I recovery. Yes he went down a different road but I think it was a fantastic and my personal favorite album
for me it's (and I probably have the weirdest list for you guys lol) MMLP2 - this album has some of the best combinations of music and technical/deep lyrics, and overall just has some all time BANGERS: evil twin, bad guy, berzerk, wicked Ways, groundhog day, and so on. This album is his best imo. Relapse - the beats in this album are absolutely amazing. Yes the topics can be a little gruesome, but the flows, rhyme schemes, and even the way he bends words in accents to help him rhyme words that don't rhyme already in the way Relapse did is actually fucking amazing. for example in stay wide awake. That last verse is something else. Would be an instant top 1 if not for 'insane'.. wasn't bad, just.... makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Chorus rocks tho. TES - this is where I was introduced to em and I honestly like it a lot. It shows how he's grown as a person and some of the songs themselves just sound like he's just having a fun time, while at the same time giving us a message. Recovery - deep as hell album. Helped me with my mental issues and helped me smile through my darkest, which, hey, was the point after all. I love this album to death, especially songs like "You're never over" (rip proof), "Cinderella man", "on fire", "not afraid." And so on. MMLP - angry em fills me with anger, but I love it. Obviously his most controversial album to date (for good reason). Not much else to say other than I like the album. SSLP - definitely a good way to Jumpstart his career with both anger, ambition, and humor. Especially role model man lmfao. PSA: next albums aren't necessarily "BAD" albums for me, but definitely include albums that didn't click right for me with the exception of MTBMB MTBMB (side A) - phenomenal album, I love the display of lyricism and the speed rap is music to my ears, bars everywhere man. Music choices were a little eh for some songs, which em definitely helped me get through. 8/10 Kamikaze - good return to form, not much else to say. Encore - it was definitely a messy as hell album but even messy albums have those few songs that clicked with you, and that's what encore did. It had some pretty good songs (1 shot two shot), some deep songs (like toy soldiers), and some funny songs (ass like that). Kinda a messy mix of all three as an album but I can agree it's definitely a step down from his previous three. MTBMB (Side B) - I'm sorry but this side of the album was kind of weak. Yeah, of course there's a plethora of bars, which obviously are crazy good, but MAN, I did not like his music choices. Trap beats? Really? Discombobulated, Zeus, and Alfred's theme were they only ones that I actually really really liked. Other than that... ehh. I'm glad he seems to be having fun though. Revival I've only listen to one song so I don't have a good opinion on it yet. Same with Infinite.
i respect the ranking for the albums. i would do encore, revival, mmlp2, relapse, infinite, kamikaze, recovery, mtbmb(side 1 and 2), mmlp, slim shady lp and then the Eminem show. i feel even tho it's a compilation, the 8 mile is also really good.
The Eminem Show The Marshall Mathers LP Relapse The Marshall Mathers LP2 The Slim Shady LP Music To Be Murdered By Recovery Kamikaze Encore Infinite Revival TES is probably my favorite album OAT.
I don't know why people say recovery is mid just because it has pop singers on choruses. Eminem is still the beast there and the whole sound of the album was epic. Top-5 Em's discography no doubt
Everyone forgets that without the SSep, SSlp and MMlp, rap is not what it is today. This dude broke down door’s unimaginable. Music is not it is today without Em. He took freedom of speech to a whole other level.

I agree. Top 5 for me
Facts! Top 5 for me has well for all the reasons you're mentionned.
The beats suck mate horrible trap rubbish
Thank you for the Recovery appreciation. That was Eminem doing the pop-rap thing correctly. Quality beats, verses and hooks. All cohesive and every song made sense on the track list. I was cool with it back then (I was 15) and when I return to it I still love it. Number 4 or 5 for me.

This is probably the best and most thorough video about Eminem's albums I've seen, you guys deserve more views!
This might be controversial but relapse is my favorite Eminem album. I like how crazy and different that album is compared to his others. MMlp being a close 2nd.
Not controversial at all! One of Em's most creative bodies of work and his best produced record🙏
Top 3 album for sure.
Relapse is my 3rd favourite.
Wished he experimented more like he did with Relapse.
It’s not controversial when you say it’s your favorite, that’s what you like and enjoy the most, now if you said if that it is his best then that would be controversial lol, but Relapse is dope some of his best flows and wordplay, with experimental Sounds. Such a dope album
Dropping 3 classic LPs from jump is legendary. He set the bar so high, it was inevitable for his work to go downward.
Love your take about TES. Also, we have a lot of discography rankings in the vault. We’re gonna be coming back with major heat..

@@lucascoxe8718 they are so critical because they hold him to a god like standard
And...he doesn't really seem to care 😕
i dont think thats case, so many artists talk about a life normal people live and fw it, ems lyricism has just gotten drastically worse and whiney
I dont understand how you can say that a he is getting worse at rapping by getting better at it. When could people ever relate to his music and in what ways?

Unpopular opinion: Music To Be Murdered By Side A + B is in his TOP 5 Albums

Happy to see Relapse getting it's dues. Super underrated. I really think the reason that it was hated at the time (other than the accents) is because of the timing. Solid ranking boys, my favorite em album is tied between the Marshall mathers LP and The Eminem Show
Thanks Nic! Those are definitely both masterpieces
for me it's (and I probably have the weirdest list for you guys lol)
MMLP2 - this album has some of the best combinations of music and technical/deep lyrics, and overall just has some all time BANGERS: evil twin, bad guy, berzerk, wicked Ways, groundhog day, and so on.
PSA: next albums aren't necessarily "BAD" albums for me, but definitely include albums that didn't click right for me with the exception of MTBMB
MTBMB (side A) - phenomenal album, I love the display of lyricism and the speed rap is music to my ears, bars everywhere man. Music choices were a little eh for some songs, which em definitely helped me get through. 8/10
Kamikaze - good return to form, not much else to say.

Pretty good ranking overall. I can never decide between SSLP, MMLP, and TES for number 1. It’s always changing but I think I’d put Recovery at number 4 and maybe relapse or encore at 5. Also loved MMLP2 but anything after that I don’t even care.
24 years old, been listening to Eminem since middle school, my lineup goes like this
1.The Eminem Show
2.MMLP
3.SSLP
4.Relapse
5.MTBMB
6.MTBMB2
7.Kamikaze
8.Recovery
9.MMLP2
10.Revival
11.Encore
Not Afraid was my intro to Eminem, Recovery was the real beginning, constant listening to throughout 7th grade as it was his newest work it didn’t take me long to though to find TES, MMLP, SSLP Relapse. I remember the hype for MMLP2 and it was crazy, After 2-3 years of listening to his old stuff and Recovery i was finally in the hype of an upcoming Eminem album
Been Waiting for anything about Eminem.
What's your top 5 Eminem albums?
@@NFRPodcast I mean I can't give them numbers actually but these are the albums which are my favorite:
The Eminem Show, Recovery, MMLP2, Kamikaze, MTBMB.
My all time favourite Eminem song, maybe favourite song of all time is remastered Infite originally from 1996 and the whole Infinite album is pretty good in my opinion
Infinite is extremely good!
Infinite is his most underrated album.
