Francis still took almost 15 shots per game that first year with Van Gundy. It had alot to do with two things: Franchise drafted Yao Ming, with the NBA interest in China, they wanted Yao to be the face of the team- Yaos shots and points went way up when Francis was traded and secondly they had an oppurtunity to get Tmac, it was a good trade with having lost some athleticism by that time, the team improved almost right away improving from 45-37 to 51-31. I dont think it was Van Gundys doing, but it's hard to argue with the results

I don't have time to make wise cracks about those people who fell you. When you make millions of dollars you see the amount they signed for not what they take home, those people have agents, financial advisors, that doesn't include they homes, cars or whatever they have. C.Web mention that trading one player from a team can be the downfall saying one player could have more impact even if hes not a star... trading J.Will from Sac to Memphis for Bibby had affect on the team but they lucky was able to get over it but still wish j.will was there

    • @elliemyers6435
      @elliemyers6435 2 года назад

That's true, but the kings improved after they traded JWill, because Bibby fit their team better. Better shooter and not as much of an Iso player that Williams was. Adelman's offense was so reliant on ball and player movement that it was clear JWill wasn't gonna work out there.

Very well summarized and excellent job at presenting key facts about these players or coaches that the media or others tends to “sweep under the rug”. Stevie Franchise IMHO was one of the most dynamic and athletic guards ever to play the game. 👏🏾💪🏾
He use to dunk on anyone even 7 footer with ease. He never really had a consistent Jumper and his basketball IQ as a floor general was lacking. Feel so bad that he did not have consistent mentors or father figures to help guide him and keep him on track to helping him reach his greatest potentials.
Also great job on highlighting ex-coach JVG stunting his growth and development. Funny commentator but horrible at managing and developing players. Being from Chicago and lifelong Bulls fan, I’m glad he never won a ‘Chip since the Bulls dominated the Knicks in 90s. Sad that Ex-coach JVG helped lead to his demise. 😔 I didn’t realize hat him not coaching in NBA like his younger brother Steve Van Gundy, was due to his INABILITY to relate, lead and manage players personalities, and not to him just only wanting to be a commentator at this stage in his career.
I appreciate all your due diligence on all the players you post videos on... esp, why they “didn’t make HOF” 👊🏾

Francis reminded me a lot of Darrell Griffith. A rock solid, albeit undersized shooting guard who was known for his top shelf athletic ability.
Griffith ended up become quite an adept 3 point shooter and a more all-around player until a knee injury robbed him of his spring. Francis basically left the game as basically the same exact player he came in as. Yeah, the athletic ability was quickly leaving him by the time he was 28 but his style of play never changed..
He was a fun player though.

Man I gotta tell u something.
I only found ur channel like maybe 2 months ago (RUclips just wasn't a place I went for my sports).
But I'm so glad I did, cuz I'm prob same age/era as you, prob a little older (just turned 45), so I love seeing a lot these vids on guys I loved and then had a "oh yeah what ever happened to THIS guy?"
But for some reason, no matter how big a fan I was of a player, I almost never cared about their off the court life. And I am learning so much about some of these guys, I just had to say thank you.
For example, I never liked Steve Francis, hated when my Knicks got him
But I always knew he was at least kinda nice with some things he could do, so when I saw u did a video on him, figured "yeah whatever DID happen with Francis?"
Add him to another list of guys I never knew had huge off the court problems, including somehow 2 og My all time favs, Kenny Anderson and Vin Baker.
As a washed up, better off dead, savagely unhealthy addict/former addict, who has lost just about every thing over my 45 years, hearing these stories really hit home and I have so much respect and a different view of these guys--- a better view

there's 2 sides to putting your everything into basketball. it works for some (it even worked for him) but you gotta be prepared for life after. it only takes one injury for you to be on the unwanted list. steve francis will always be one of my favorites but this is a sad, sad story.

I have talked to & helped Steve Francis on two or three occasions. I worked at a DMV type office in central Houston for 20 years. Back in the pre covid days the office was always packed. The customers would have to get a number and wait. I was the only guy working there at the time. All my coworkers were women who didn't know basketball or basketball stars. He knew that. I would be helping a customer and look up and there was this tall (6'3") guy standing in my field of vision. At first I would not recognize him then I did, it was Steve Francis.
He was smart. He didn't want to wait so he figured out since I was the only guy working there and probably a Rockets fan I would recognize him and cut him through the line. Steve was right. That's what happened. I could go into other details, but I won't. Best wishes to Steve Francis.

I respect the man and the player. Demons get the best of you when you have nothing in your corner or no-one in your corner. You hear them voices and just want to be alone, so you kill the thoughts with be partying, loud music, anything that gets you high, and basically that needs no thinking to do. I respect him and his recovery 🙏

He was a head case the minute he said “I’m not going to Vancouver” when he was the second pick by the Grizzlies in 1999
The Rockets 🚀 traded half the roster and a few firsts just to get him on the team
Good NBA all star caliber PG
Overrated flash in a pan ball hog who could never make his team better
It didn’t help that Jeff Van Gundy was the coach in 2004

Stevie Franchise... had some of the craziest cross over and dunks. Will break your ankle if you tried defending him 1v1. Could shoot the threes as well. I use love watching his game. So sad his career didn't reach height it could have.
