    About Me (Evan):
    I moved onto our century old family farm with the goal of turning the land back into a self-sustaining homestead using regenerative agriculture practices. I want to set up long term food systems that will provide my family with food security for the next 100 years.

    I live in a very windy area, at high altitude so the wind is ferocious sometimes. You think this concept could handle it?

    • @TheNorthBranchWI
      @TheNorthBranchWI  Год назад +1

      That is tough, I’m not sure. This one made it through some storms with really high winds, but idk how it would hold up where you’re at.

      I'm leaning towards a cattle panel hoop structure instead of poles. We've used cattle panel hoop houses for critter houses and they've handled 80mph straight-line winds plus the usual 40mph winds/gusts coming from all directions at all times. The extra support that 4' spaced poles seems to make a difference.

    Was the cedar what you had available or was it because of its fungal properties?cheerz from NNY

      We got those boards from the hardware store. And it’s either cedar or pressure treated for the foundation.

    • @youresoakinginit2113
      @youresoakinginit2113 Год назад

      Yep! Cedar, Cyprus, Teak and Redwood have similar properties that naturally resist infestation by bugs, including termites (which probably make it OK to put the wood in direct contact with the soil, usually a no-no). Also refuses to rot, mold, mildew etc. Mother Nature is a wonderful thing! 😊
      That said, teak is not the best in sun, as it kind of dries out and falls apart at the seams, as it were. (Witness the beautiful teakwood patio furniture sold at my favorite now-defunct two-name "outdoor living" store... it was known to fall apart if not treated for sun exposure. Who wants to do maintenence on a hoop house? Not Me!)

    On a walk to the shops, had noticed more people then I knew had been growing their own food in one way or another.
    Had taken a short look years ago.
    Now the possibility of this becoming a reality, I am on the hunt for you guessed it Green house videos, will start on the design phase, giving the beds and composting time to rot (plenty to do).

    • @TheNorthBranchWI
      @TheNorthBranchWI  Год назад +1

      I am not even sure for this one. It was a few years ago at this point so it is probably not even comparable sadly ahah But the pole bender was the biggest investment, followed by the plastic. And then the poles are 10-20 I believe depending on what you want to do. But this is what I would recommended if you are trying to build the least expensive greenhouse possible.

    Is it possible to build this hoop house on a slope?

    • @nikkiwilder660
      @nikkiwilder660 4 месяца назад

      Probably if you keep one side of the poles poles unbent. I'm not good enough at math to be able to figure out where the arch would be bent but you could probably dig it out.

    • @nikkiwilder660
      @nikkiwilder660 4 месяца назад

      Figure it out* not dig.
      Although some digging might have to be done, idk.

    Don’t understand where you got the metal pipes from and don’t understand how the wiggle wire goes into the pipes ?

    • @TheNorthBranchWI
      @TheNorthBranchWI  Год назад +3

      The poles are from Home Depot. And you attach the c channels on the front and back hoops, pull the plastic over the channels and snap the wiggle wire into the channels and it holds the plastic in place. I wish I had better footage of the wiggle wire.

    • @1FishinAddict
      @1FishinAddict 10 месяцев назад

      Gotta buy the channel and screw onto the pipe for the wiggle wires.

    • @TheNorthBranchWI
      @TheNorthBranchWI  Год назад

      Hi there, sorry for taking so long to see this. This was a few years ago for us, so prices have changed dramatically. But depending on size I would say you could build a pretty large one for a few hundred dollars. The bender and plastic is a big expense. But once you have a bender you can scale up the size for not too much more.
