Whether you are from Oklahoma or not, it gives all Americans goosebumps with pride of our America.
Yes ma'ame, you got that right, especially nowadays as one political party is ripping this (once great just a few months ago) nation at the seems. This is an icon of true AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM, and yes, 'goosebumps' to the max, have hard time keeping composure watching and listening to this.
@@Ken_Weber_organist Delusional.
true !! Very true
@@mayena no not delusional....one party tried to steal an electrion, committed treason on Jan 6th with an attempted coup, and wanted to reinstall an orange con-man... all against the will of the American people
@@miamidolphinsfan You are listening to msm. Not good.
I could cry. The chorus is so amazing and the harmonies... it's just so PERFECT!
This is one of the greatest musicals ever written. Rogers and Hammerstein were geniuses. They composed music “for all time and all generations”, now and to come!!!
Yep---when they died,' musical theater ' died ! There were some exceptions, sure enough, 'Westside Story', 'Oliver', ' My Fair Lady'. spring to mind. What mainly sets them apart, from modern offerings, is that virtually EVERY song was memorable, and of the highest quality, the lyrics carried the dialogue along. No infill what so ever. People could and would, sing them on the way home, and for weeks after. Everyone who was anyone, wanted to record those songs. What's more, we still love then after all those decades. As for ''musicals '' today ? your lucky if there is just ONE memorable song. Instead, we get mass chorouses repeating a boring souless shouty noise.
There is nothing like driving across the plains of Oklahoma with the windows [or top] down on your car and playing this song. This version is as good as it gets. Bravo.
+Mike Luck fyi---Oklahoma in summer is "humid as all fuck"...I don't recommend it. As the saying goes..."something a Jew wouldn't wish might not wish on Hitler."
+Glenn Leahey you just got to get used to it.
yup. It's "much the same" in Norther Florida, when my aunt's lived for years. "You gotta climatize. You gotta climatize. Drink the (sulpher) water."
Glenn Leahey Go to California!
Being able to get out of Oklahoma after 22 years of growing up there is even better!
The chorus is unbelievable. Sounds exactly like the original record.
Knowing how hard it is to mix sounds together, my bet is that what we hear is a prerecorded track already mixed to perfection during months of hard work, but what the public hear is the live version, possibly with some added parts of the recording to improve the weaker sounds.
@@thomasdahl3083 I was a BBC engineer and I can tell you is that all classical, light classical and musicals concerts are 100% live at the Proms with no added recorded parts. There has been the occassional pop oriented concert with limited use of a backing track but that is looked after totally by the musicians themselves. With classical concerts It's all a matter of getting the audio balance right while the full rehearsals are in place and this is sometimes not until the day of the concert. The musicians get little time to rehearse together but it certainly concentrates their minds.
These proms are absoloutly brilliant. Keep them coming, let them be a new tradition. John Wilson and the orchestra are FANTASTIC, as are all of the Singers. I look forward to this prom every year now.
I hope for your sake this comment was ironic. The proms have been going since 1839 !
@@brianrenate I didn't mean the proms as a whole, I'm well aware how long they have been running for. I meant, in particular, the John Wilson Orchestra concerts being part of the proms.
@@OrganMusicYT 👍
I love how they sing "sky" at 2:11 absolutely amazing
Glorious. Just glorious. Thank you for the music, Rogers and Hammerstein.
It is amazing to me, just how music can so fill you with absolute joy!!!
Beautiful beautiful rendition! A huge round of applause for the chorus.. amazing!! :D
the way Julian belts out the middle section is simply sensational
SIMPLY WONDERFUL AND UNFORGETABLE!!!
What a spectacular performance ! Beautiful !!
Love love LOVE the chorus! :')
Agreed. I think the other singers also became a part of the audience. Chorus is equal to the movie - maybe better.
This is one of those showstoppers where the chorus just about outshines the main principals.
How'd they get the women's voices to do that!?
This is one of the most wonderful Proms I've ever seen - wonderful performances. Julian and Sierra's version of "If I loved you" made me cry. Fantastic :-)
I know all the words to this and I only saw it once. Thank You Mum for leaving the radio on all the time. It was 6KG and had to cover a wide range of people - that was some incredible music education!
What a great video. Such amazing vocalists singing a song from “Oklahoma” with joy and passion!
Perfect! And the cheer at the end is just as uplifting as the rest
Musically, this is absolutely glorious. Stylistically, it’s so British…which is okay, it just makes me chuckle. Well done at any rate.
The Queen's favourite song!
What's incredible is that the movie version still sounds the best. And this is a room full of immense talent.
Pure sunshine
Love this version with so many excellent singers.
I am so happy listening to the music no matter how often I play this orchestra. BRAVO BBC Proms.!!!
It's one of Queen Elizabeth's favorite songs, so they knew better than to mess it up! ;)
One word brilliant.👏👏👏
As an Okie ex-pat this gives me goose bumps.
Make someone happy
This song with this chorus….wowza.
I love the BBC Proms. This is fantastic. Thank you for posting this.
While the BBC Proms may have a great cast, there is nothing like watching this musical at any Oklahoma high school. Just about every Oklahoma high school does this musical every three to four years, if not annually. A lot of costumes and stage props have been reused for over a half century. And the best stage prop ever for a musical who even wrote lyrics to present it, thanks to Oscar Hammerstein, is the surrey with the fringe on the top... You will be surprised how competitive Oklahoma high schools are presenting this stage prop...
Brilliant ochestration! The way in which this ochestra meticulously delivers on the original scores is breathtaking. Better than the original.
All I can say is OMG love from Australia
Me encanta esta cancion y esta version es magnifica gracias por subirla
The 'Henry Wood promenade Concerts' were later referred to as 'The Proms' after his death in 1944. The concerts are held at the Royal Albert Hall in London every year from July till about September. Most of the performances are of a classical nature from popular to the obscure. In recent years there has been 'special evenings of film and light orchestral works and from the Musicals. The famous 'Last night of the Proms' is for popular/patriotic music. The shows are shown all over the world.
Saw Anna-Jane Casey last night as Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot, really fantastic.
fantastic evening, hope they do that again. well done
chills from 1:43 to the end. wow....
Best state song there is.
if oklahoma ever came back on broadway, they would make up the perfect rivival cast!
Saw Kim and Julian tonight in Dublin. Amazing.
The red head's accent is genuine. I'm guessing Tennessee or Texas. Anybody know her name??? I love this version. It makes me want to sing along.
Kim Criswell singing first, Rod Gilfrey second & Sierra Boggess third, they are all American. The Julian Ovenden & Anna-Jane Casey from the Uk
Thanks for the info!!!@@CDB8939
Groovy!
I've got this non-stop on repeat. Amazing performance! Anyone know where you can buy this version?
I’m sold!
Fantabulosa!
"Oklahom-ar", lol
But really, this performance is still great and the chorus nailed it!
Ikr
They still did ok though
Well they're doing the whole show this year so we'll get that again. Dont know who the leads are yet tho
Yes, we know they are, but the John Wilson orchestra is new to the Proms.
@mountainrover yes, yes it was!
What is he saying on .49 seconds Hawk? (Oklahoma), the home where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
Ooooooooo-k'-lahoma
Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain,
And the waving wheat
Can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, every night my honey lamb and I,
Sit alone and talk
And watch a hawk
Making lazy circles in the sky.
How'd they get the women's voices to do that in the choir????
I thought that was john bishop at first!
lots of great people from Oklahoma James Garner- Maverick, Reba McEntire and the great one the Mick, Mickey Mantle, Brad Pitt well I don't know about great, oh and I almost forgot my mother too, she's from there until they moved to Texas and had me, haha
Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Will Rogers, Toby Keith and Wiley Post to name a few more.
I have read it on Wikipedia that this was also a celebration of Jewish culture and homeland.
Is this right? Can someone tell me about it?
And to think the original show was called "Green Grow the lilacs" and then it was changed to "Away We Go." those two titles don't have much appeal so I'm glad they renamed it Oklahoma. funny how great musicals start out and then end up.
can tell this was done at Royal Albert Hall by the huge pipe organ in the background
If I didn't love Tamierra and Team Ramierra so much, I would so ship Julian and Sierra! So cute!
Rod Gilfrey looks like Thomas Haden Church.
Hahahahah he says Oklahom-ar because he's brittish.
Are all these singers British, I wonder? If so, they sure got their cowboy accents down pat! :-D
I seem to remember there's a mixture of both.
The first 3 to sing are American.
@Conortastic not at all - HOLY Handsome... I'm going to OKLAHOMA ...
Thanks for all the comments. Moved me so much that I now live in Oklahoma.
The Beeb's politics are pathetic, but their entertainment is excellent. Thanks, guys.
A rousing performance, as expected from the BBC Proms. The only sour note is the largely unconvincing Oklahoma accents of the soloists, especially the woman with the big hair ("closer to God" as we say in the South.)
I think those accents are just built into the show. Most Okies have a neutral Midwestern accent
Kim Criswell is American.
Scott Mathews
yes it's true that Okies have a mostly Midwestern neutral accent but you're forgetting about Reba McEntire which sounds pure Texas she's from Oklahoma though sometimes you run into a mix in Oklahoma and the Texas or Southern accent does standout, it just depends
I grew up in North Texas on the Oklahoma border, plenty of us really do talk this way. :-)
I have in-laws in OK who we see regularly. Biggest difference I see is that they say "pop" instead of Coke.
That's how it's done!! Just saw the new version of Oklahoma and wept at how terrible it is.
Show
I find it annoying how he says "OK-..." when it should be "Ohhhhh!... Klahoma..."
Like Julian better in this than in his version of Being Alive, he has a self-satisfied schtick which fits curly really well, but not so much Robert
The Southerners accept thid messages
Only 10% of the original. Sorry guys but you just didn't cut it. Listen to the original record. Thank you.
funny, cuz if i remember correctly, the trail of tears led to oklahama, a pretty crappy place that Andrew Jackson used to store the native americans
bbl11
maybe so it might have been creepy until they struck oil there like it was Saudi Arabia and then everybody got rich.
Mascagni
@Dalriada35 orchestration - learn to type!
Mr Ovenden joins the long list of tenors who just can't seem to hit the raised supertonic note ( D sharp in this key) in the phrase 'and the wind comes right behind THE rain', that Richard Rogers wrote. Why the hell not? The chorus manages to do it correctly at 1.57.And where was the music coach or accompanist or Mr Wilson himself? Didn't any of them notice either? It's the one NON- diatonic note in this song and singers just. can't. do. it. They sing the normal tonic note D natural instead. It is these little melodic tweaks of the expected note that give some of Rogers' melodies their piquancy.
Paul Barrett it is like when someone sings "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'", and someone sings a B-Natural on the first "Morn" instead of s B-Flat! Drives me nuts! By the way, his last name is spelled "Rodgers", with a D in it! 🎵
Don't be so picky, This is the Proms, these performers have had no more than 2 or 3 rehearsals for this one off concert, and this number was one of around 15 pieces performed. Julian may have just had an off note.
OHHH--JUST LISTEN TO THE GIRLS WHINGING, I KNOW JUST WHAT YOU MEAN LUV--M'MM
Excellent. Too bad about the tenor, though.
I was not so lucky that I was not born in Oklahoma
wasn't this a great show
OK is so windy you can barely walk. Brown, dusty, and windy...the song is so much better lol.
The original musical and movie are so much better than that POS that came out in 2019.
As a former producer myself …..what in the hell is the point of doing this “live”? Who Cares?!?!?!?? And it’s risky and very expensive. And creates all sorts of problems.
Embarrassing that England has no uplifting equivalent musicals.
@BBC - you've misspelled 'Oklahoma' in the description...FYI...
