To fix the God cards for modern effects only 4 cards need their text adjusted to rebalance them. 1. All the God cards need to say unaffected by monster effects except by Divine monsters. 2. All the God cards need to be unaffected by spells and traps except by one's that specifically list them in their text. Finally, 3. Blaze Accelerator for Ra needs to be changed to have an additional effect added where Ra can't be tributed that turn except by a card that names it in its text. Ie Sun God Unification which gives you LP based on Ra's attack and can get Phoenix mode to summon itself from GY for free. These 3 changes affecting the 4 cards explicitly would buff the God cards to game winning potential towers that are still not the easiest to summon. Slifer has a great passive with the 2K ATK drop since even a game ender like Accesscode Talker would drop to 300 ATK first and then at max possible ATK, be at 6k if you had a Link 6 in GY. Most cases though, it would end with either 2300 again or 3300, meaning you only need 3-4 cards in hand to be over that. Monarchs are probably the best from what I've tested for Slifer due to their immense draw power.
@@davincameron7627 that would be boring.. my suggestion to mimic anime effect but with less text is the gods effect cant be negated and it is unaffected by effect that would move it from the zone it summoned to. it would make them unaffected by: - Destroy - send to GY - banish - return to hand / deck - switch control so to remove it, you have to either punch it really hard, kaiju it, make it face down, have something to reduce the atk/def of the monster.. which is quite plenty in the link monster but ppl tend to not bring it since it less useful than the knightmare.. it would make the gods harder to out but not stupidly overpower and it give some kind of unique effect compared to towers

@6210classick Yeah, it should. Slifer's effect is a mandatory continous effect, so it should happen immediately when access touches the field and not when he activates his link summon effect If it doesn't work like that, that'd be stupid

The way I'd personally do it is, 1.) They're unaffected by monster effects unless that monster's original Attribute is Divine (so they can still use their effects on each other), 2.) They can't be targeted or destroyed by card effects, 3.) They can't switch control, and 4.) Your opponent can't tribute them (but you still can, to preserve your Kaiba roleplay). Very powerful protection, but there are still some fairly well-known cards that can out them and be sided in if they somehow start seeing serious play.
They should get retains and extra deck variants. They do it for Dark Magician and Blue Eyes and Exodia has had multiple retrains. I would also like to see extra deck versions so you can play the god cards in decks you want to actually play.
Bear in mind, that DM and Blue Eyes extra deck monsters already exist in the anime, and they're making variants of their fusions, not creating them from thin air. So retraining the Gods as extra monsters might not be a good idea? But it'd be refreshing to see playable God cards
agree, just make it Unaffected by card effects, except "Diving-Beast" Monster or "DIVINE" Monster Attribute, it will be a good n playable tower, but not OP
The anime God cards are confusing. Rules are kind of fluid depending on which corner the writers have written into but, in general, they are immune to all removal effects and any non-removal effects only last until the end of the turn. I think that would be a good way to make them all towers but have means to weaken them or protect yourself from them.
I'm not sure of they are immune to removal, only particular kinds of removal. I think the general idea is the opponent can't use it, which is why brain control and soul taker don't work (soul taker in the manga is a monarch's stromforth for card effects). Meanwhile, Magical Dimension does work because it doesn't do that. What's an open question is whether Ra would have come back next turn (if he was summoned normally anyway), seeing as the effects only last one turn. It also seems god cards are immune to all traps. Magic cylinder worked on slifer, but magic cylinder is a quick-play spell in the manga; not a trap.
i think it's more consistent in the manga - all card effects "wear off" them at the end of the turn, returning them to the state they were previously in as if the effect was never applied trapped by spellbinding circle and weakened by 700 points ? it's destroyed at the end of the turn and they regain the points special summoned from the graveyard by monster reborn ? they go back to the graveyard at the end of the turn destroyed by card effect like raigeki ? presumably, they'd just come back to where they were on the next turn (we never see this happen because free removal cards like that are banned in the manga)
If they ever did extra deck retrains for the gods, one cool idea they could do is have the extra deck versions be evolved variations like what happened in the manga where obelisk not only changed appearance but also his effects could now effect ra as he was now on the same hierarchy after Atem used divine evolution on it. If they did that with all the gods in their retrains, then that could bring a lot more ideas to the table as maybe them evolved would make it far to give them their old anime effects back like Slifer can now lower either Atk of Def.
I once wrote a Divine Evolution custom card, and it was more or less like a divine mask change that summoned the evolved god from the extra deck. Then Konami made a real Divine Evolution and it's lame as hell.
i still find it weird that, when they decided to give ra only 1 of its 3 canonical abilities, the one they chose to give it was the one that in-universe was supposed to be extremely secret and wasn't even written on the card
Getting rid of non targeting destruction would make going second way worse, as there are more cards than ever that tribute for effect. At first glance it feels good but board breaking begins to get telegraphed.
I have no idea why people are so focused on Slifer having cards in hand for attack as the main issue. Yes, having Slifer at 6000 attack is nice, and it is the cards biggest weakness when going second, but a 6k Slifer dies to fissure just as easy as a 0 atk Slifer. Literally all Slifer needs is the slightest bit of protection so that you can reliably use the floodgate effect. Personally I'd love for the Poker Knights support to be built upon even further. Giving them a link monster that has a Hardened Armed Dragon style effect, where if it's used as a tribute for a level 10/divine monster, the tribute summoned monster gets protection would go a long way to making the Gods far more playable.
It's not even the lack of protection that kills them, it's the "they go back to the gy if you cheat them out" bit. Honestly I would say to just remove that part and merge them with the sacred beast support archetype. Fallen paradise was made for Slifer; a protection + pot of greed all packaged in a nice field spell easily searchable with Chaos Summoning Beast. Lord knows I would rather use Slifer over Uria as he is too slow. Awakening of the sacred beasts already has the recycle synergy with metal reflect slime, now imagine all those life points that could be used by Ra. Sacred beasts on the other hand could benefit from cards like soul crossing which would serve as a kaiju like removal and you could actually make use of Hyper blaze.
The thing is , them going back after you cheated them out was *part of* the protection in the manga. The idea was, all spells only lasted one turn on them, but that includes your own Monster Reborn.
Maybe an archetype based around the god cards? It could be themed around the 7 egyptian priests. Give field presence, hand advantage, and buffs to the god cards that last the rest of the duel
The only buff errata Konami has ever done was making the XYZ union pieces have the same standard Union effects as the ABC ones, and they never done it to any other old Union monster.
