If she has extended family absolutely they will be getting large portions too. That's just how it is here. She'll have to work and make ends meat like the most of people
I am almost finished building here. My wife will always have a place to go if she wants to go "home" after I pass away. It's my way of taking care of her.

Usually the only thing that keeps the young girls tied to you is there dependence, by the way that is probably the same thing that keeps you guys alive,
that is why the western girls are so hard on you, they are independed and have different expectations.
One thing is that a house needs to be restored constantly, are you guys not having regular tropical cyclone events? And the banking stuff, ever thought about security and trust in banks? Even in the west banks are going broke.

A close friend of mine has filipina wife of 10 yrs. They had loved each other deeply and he build her a house in the Philippines. Recently, they have been fighting and she's kicked him out twice now and says the house is hers. They made up but its obvious to my friend that there is no longer any appreciation for ANYTHING he has done for her or her family. No matter who is at fault for the relationship failing, he is left with nothing if/when he leaves...which he may do. Many will have a happy relationship until the end BUT it is not always the case and sometimes you can't see it coming. Some women/men change with time. So its never really about building a house...but about KEEPING a relationship...
Once you build that house, she no longer needs you. If she has no money, she will sell it
Love doesn't need to be conditional. He can leave her. Life is short. I would have no regrets building that house.
TRUE love is supposed to be unconditional. In marriage for better for worse. If it's conditional then it's based on desire for something.

Good point. But what if Paul and Mae just want as much privacy as possible during their years together. A duplex might feel like having roommates, especially when they want to enjoy time outside in the backyard, front yard or anywhere on the property outdoors.

good info, on the car… what i did was, i got my wife and her friend to take driver’s training together, paid for both, they get twice the education that way, when one is driving with the instructor, the other is in the back seat still learning. because they were partnered, there was friendly competition and both got their license and my wife drove for 16 years with no issues. Pay to have a licensed trainer teach them.. it is worth every peso.. Keep up the good videos!

I live in Costa Rica. Foreigners can own land/property. I bought a simple house here in my name. San Jose my taxes are $300/yr. And so it is up keep/food/health ins./Elec. Now married, almost 20 years. My wife is like yours in the sense of how she will survive once I am gone. So i built a second story with two mini apt. That is her pension and I will leave her some cash. Will is made out so the transfer to her will be minimal Like you just looking ahead. We are all on the conveyor belt of life.
Paul, in my case i waited for a man from the US for 9 yrs. He didnt let me get a job learn new skills or study all i did is wait for him. Yes he financially supported me. I saved up n bought a property n built a home for us when he decides to finally come home to me until we broke up last year. He is never coming to see me and i gave up waiting. I was devastated n didnt. know what to do , no job no savings with a mouth to feed. Nothing.
This year things got better, i got a job, not much of an income but atleast i can pay my bills n able to buy food n send my son to school. God is so good to me. I am
Blessed.
I see this over and over again, if it takes a man a very long time to come to Philippines, in most cases he isn't ever coming. If he is not able or willing to come in a reasonable amount of time, need to find one who is. Two years is plenty, in my opinion. God watch over you and your son.

Build with screws as nails work out of wood over time. Don't have eves with large overhang as they catch the wind and fires start there. Have steel shutters on windows because in high winds flying objects can even be a big danger. Insolate the ceilings. Get fans that have balanced blades so there is no wobble. Wish I was there to design a solar system for you. Cheap to do. Catch as much roof water as you can and store. Drive a 5 ft. copper ground rod in the ground for the electrical system where the electricity enters the house. There is much more.
Basically decent suggestions accept the screws thing. I brought nice deck screws from the States which are fine for the softer wood. However they mostly build with Coconut lumber (coco wood) which is at least as hard as oak and twice as dense. Unless you pre-drill every hole almost the size of the screw, which diminishes the screw advantage 50% of 3" deck screws will shear off. Not to mention the nails they use here are 3x's as thick and 10x's as strong in shear strength.
Also a rapidly driven nail in a hard wood that shrinks over time will hold up.
Besides the extra labor to pre-drill and the unbelievably expensive screws here compared to $15 worth of nails for 30# makes nails the way to go.
That said, only our semi open garage is wood/Crete but our new addition is 100% crete!
Also eves are almost exclusively Crete and provide important sun and rain protection.
You are truly a stand-up guy and love her deeply; enriched her life beyond her expectations; and treated her extremely well. Her life story has been extremely hard. Her love for her sister is truly beyond reproach. I knew she had a heart of gold, used money as a tool and she isn't a materialistic woman. (clothes not included) She is honest; hard-working knows the value of the Peso at 15 and when she met you. IMHO what matters now is that you are both happy and take care of each other. I'm "TRULY" happy for you both. Hell with the trolls. You are both rare finds. Keep on keeping on!

The saying is "Trust but verify!" Also, take into account other possibilities such as the improbable but possible, such as Mae pre-deceasing you. It would seem wise to consider the above suggestion about lease(s) and get the advice of a local lawyer.
With a lease you might be able to control who and how many she could move into the house.

Outstanding! Consider adding a 1or 2 detached rooms/studio apartments. Anther way to potentially generate income and/or you could use it has your Man Cave.
Paul PLEASE show Baby Mae this comment. -- Baby Mae, if you love Paul then please consider getting a lawyer to prepare a 25 year lease for Paul on the house AND "making" him sign it. That would protect Paul just in case anything unexpected might happen to you -- I know nobody wants to plan for the unexpected/'bad' scenarios, but it is a simple and caring gesture that you could offer Paul in return for all that he is doing for you. Paul I think what you're doing is smart (you are protecting yourself from the potential demise of the dollar), especially since you're including solar - 10kw IMO ;) and building a home will do as much to secure your future as Mae's. @@jacked6 If the couple is married at the time of purchasing land/home then the man's name will be on the document. If the woman should pass away, he still has the right to live there for I believe one year. The guy would have to sell it.
I will also build a home with my Filipina. I look at it as she earned it by the way she treats me. She is really good to me and my family. My mother really loves her. She has never asked me for a green card or anything. She told me when we first got together, I am not interested in going to America--she has traveled all around the world. I totally get it Paul, My wife (a filipina) and I have been married for 42 years. We are heavily invested in a house and land in Cebu, Petalo San Fernando to be exact. Since neither one of us can own land in the Philippines, because she is now an American citizen as well. I have come to love my wife's family over the years and consider them as my family as well. So of course when you care, love, and trust my extended family as I do it is only natural that you would want to ensure that they have all that they need. This includes a house to call their own. So, I totally understand exactly what you are talking about. God bless you and your lovely wife.
Your Filipina wife has the option to reacquire her Filipino citizenship in accordance with RA 9225 and become a dual US/Filipino citizen. Once she obtains Filipino citizenship, she can own land. Something to consider.

Your wife can file for dual citizenship, and she will be able to buy real estate in the Philippines.
if she's naturalized us citizen she can avail of the balikbayan privileges. balikbayans can own up to 1 hectare of agriland and 1000 sqm of residential lot.

I applaud you Paul for your unselfish demeanor with your wife's future. Many guys wouldn't worry about their partner since they won't be there anymore. You found gold in them hills, and you aim to keep it. I've been following your vlog for many years and have enjoyed each and every one. I'm 74, and plan on being around until 90ish. It's in my family traits. I'll be in Cebu come feb and hopefully will enjoy a good life in the Philippines. I'm not looking for a partner, I'm used to being single, but I think I'll get a cat for a companion. I hope you reach a ripe old age of 90, the longer you can with your wife the better.

That's kinda depressing how she went from being 15-years-old and forced to be a work "mule" laboring 12 hours a day, and earning just 300 pesos/day! Just to support her sister's college costs of all things...then to becoming your retirement "project" over the last five years...well at least she now has a house in HER name coming! Good for her she earned it, and congrats on one year of marriage!

Some times dangers come from unexpected directions, you just need to have her mother have different plans for her life. once she is set, her family might begin to act.

"Truly believe"? Based on what? You're able to see the future? Not trying to be a dick here but how about a little reality. Most of the comments here are based on Paul and Baby's current state. What happens if heaven forbid Baby passes a week after Paul buys her the property? Her parents and/or siblings inherit 50% ownership of the land and house. Do you also "truly believe" they would let Paul stay? They would have every right to move into the house and use the land however they want. They don't get half the property, they get 50% ownership of the entire property.

Hi Paul to save you time and money and give you a very comfortable home I recommend EPS panel.
Please research about this materials. SRC panels has some clips on You tube. I already build my home with earthbags prior to knowing EPS panels. I used the later to build my guesthouse and it is a great material. Check it out before you spend too much money. Do not use hollow blocks too hot. Congratulations. Nobody will be left in a rough financial state.

You CAN own property in the Philippines. Married to a Filapina for 5 years, you can become a citizen, and ask any Attorney, naturalized citizens can own land.
You can become a "naturalized citizen" not a "Native Citizen" so look at the laws again
@@colinmoon8097 I have. Every attorney I spoke with said naturalized citizens can on property. The Philippines law does not make a distinction between naturalized and native born citizens, regarding the ownership of land.
