I remember the days when traveling used to be much less stressful
I have to avoid Canada at all cost because even if you have a misdemeanor on your criminal record, that’s 45 years old (which I do),, they will pull you to the side and interview you even if you’re going through on a connecting flight, they are very strict. They don’t care how long ago it’s been since your last run-in with the police, you need to have a clean record going through Canada because you have to go through immigration no matter what even if it’s for connecting flight
Excellent info! Thx for sharing
The same happens when Canadians with record going to the states.
That's the problem when people try to go cheap instead flying direct flight to the Philippines
Get the Global Entry for $100 through TSA. Good for 5 years. Shows you’ve gone through an extra background check. Also try not to carry close to the $10k or above in currency. They can confiscate it and can be a bitch and take years and legal fees to get back.
@@rasheedkesington7506 Not everyone lives in LA, Seattle, or Vancouver.
At least the wheels stayed on the plane.
That’s why I fly business class on Philippines airlines. Direct flight. Relax in the executive lounge before your flight. Business class always boards first. No lay over. No delays. No issues.
And no money left when you get there ...
Sounds like Gio had a very frustrating trip but I like how he just rolled with it, good coping mechanism.
Glad your back in your adopted country and your beautiful wife makes the long trip worth it. 🇵🇭
If you can’t afford business class you shouldn’t travel.
@@marvinphillips1326
Says the guy who can afford that mode of travel.
@@marvinphillips1326 I agree that Business Class is the way to go but some of these airlines charge way too much. Philippines Airlines Business Class is one of the worst business class seats you can get. A year ago they had reasonable prices but now…it’s crazy.
Much more complicated than the old days.
Yeah with post 9/11 for sure sucks now
Canada......can kiss my. Used to be a great country but a certain party took over a few decades back and I hope they're happy with what they have now..
As far as long travel the cheap way always gets you wishing you hadnt been cheap! If I cant afford business class I don't go until I can afford. 100% worth it.
Thanks for sharing your trip home
Yes, business class all the way baby, plus the airline lounges.
Aa a Canadian well I'll say don't let the door hit ya on the way out 💪. We are very happy.
Yes sadly Canada has become a shithole.
United started non stop service out of San Francisco. You should seriously consider it.
I fly direct out of la California
That is a great flight. Highly recommend also.
Not very price competitive. So no deal
Non stop is worth a little more. Every time the plane lands there is more chances for things to go wrong.
Lost luggage. Missing connections. No aircraft available for the next leg .
Non stop 👍🏻
When you try to cut cost on your travel this is what happens.
On korean airlines. A beautiful korean lady was looking after her mum. She saw i was struggling a bit so she looked after me. Respect to her.
Wot's the rest of the story?!
😜
Exchanged digits? FB friends now?
they were checking if the seasoning was truly greek 😂😂😂
And is it an alternative to adobo.
😂😂
Hilarious 😂
I've flew into both Cebu and Manila, going to the Philippines. Cebu is very much less chaotic.
One way , Vancouver, 1.5 hours Hong Kong layover, Cebu , total 17.5 hours, $585 US .
Good deal. What airline?
Gio, I am glad to hear that nothing major went wrong.
,II've dicided that it is so much better to get a direct flight anymore < So much less hassle !! This is one flight you'll never forget for sure !! Welcome back !!
Just back to USA from the Phillpines and I flew United from San Franciso to Manila nonstop the only drawback bring that that flight leaves San Franciso around Midnight. Korean air is good airline.
About a week ago I flew direct from SFO to Manila with United and had NONE of those problems. In fact, while on the flight, when we were two hours out from landing, they came on intercom, and started telling everyone they might want to fill out their eTravel stuff, or it might be a problem for them. LOL
The trouble with multiple air connections with different airlines is that if one sector is cancelled or other issues, you can lose your bookings on the subsequent sector airlines. Best stay with one airline. I go with Singapore Airlines to Europe, two sectors but one airline. If there's a typhoon etc, the airline will sort out everything with no penalties.
Great advice thanks
Security tends to target single men travelling alone.
They also harass men traveling alone with a one-way ticket.. There's several reasons why somebody would buy a one-way ticket but they apparently think the worst and harass you instead
Sounds like normal travel that gets chalked up to experience. All airports have different triggers and they change over time.
One thing I've found about ticket cost, is that the between bigger airports are usually cheaper. Google flights can help you with finding the cheapest route, then wait for the price to be good. My upcoming USA airfare RT from Clark to Chicago is $1300, just 1 stop and 22 hours. Got a one way Rent a car to my final destination.
Both EVA and Korea air are good. I fly out of Texas so I overnight in SFO or SEA and continue on the next day. It takes the edge off. From there it's one stop and it's straight into Cebu. This last time I flew EVA return and had an 8 hour layover in Taipei, that sucked. I'm looking forward to trying Philippine Air. I understand that they've just started some direct flights. Not sure if they're into Cebu or Manila.
It's nice to break up the trip with an overnight.
Next time pay up and fly direct or "1" stop. No more local trains!! 🤣. And they say it's more fun in the Philippine's!!🤣. Welcome back to the PH!! ~ Peter PS- Go Cathay Pacific trough HK- Best Layover and short flight!!
I agree...came back last year on Cathay Pacific...absolutely awesome. That is who I am using from Boston to Manila in September.
@@bookrampage Me too, Melbourne AU to Hong Kong layover then Korea all by Cathay Pacific
Glad you made it back safe. Sounds like an interesting trip back for sure.
Philippine Airlines flies directly from LA to Manila and Alaska from Vancouver direct to Manila
Seattle too direct to Manila
Love your Video's Gio! :)
Welcome back gio ..we also just got back from 2 weeks break in Australia. ❤❤
Holy crap! Mishaps? You sure someone doesn't have a voodoo doll of you somewhere? lol
Geez! What a fiasco! 😂
I always fly direct.
Taipei and incheon are awesome airports. Came through them multiple times. Flying back into Cebu in Oct. Flying through Singapores Changi international. Gonna be a 16 hour flight but is what it is.
Just finished a round trip to the U.S. Direct flight on Philippines airlines to LA from Manila, economy. Paid an extra $120 to get an empty seat next to me. Well worth it as a guy in the row thought he would lie down and sleep next to me. Told him a firm no. Then a direct flight back from SFO to Manila on Philippines airlines. Everything was smooth.
Dang man! You had quite the adventure returning home.... Glad none of it was too serious!
Just rolled with the punches.
Glad you made it back Gio, I don't envy you for the traveling. I used to do it for over a decade and got sick of the hassle and all the arrogant security, attendants, agents, border guards and whomever was involved.
Once I was flying home to Canada with Air Canada and in YYZ, after clearing immigration, I went downstairs to get mu checked in luggage and a small hound dog walked up to me, all excited. This arrogant middle aged woman followed with a superiority complex, informing me that I might have suspicious stuff in my luggage. So she sent me into another room where my luggage were dissected and turns out the that dog smelled the one remaining sandwich I didn't eat on the plane. This was in my carry on bag tho, My Gf made those for me for the long trip. Told the officer that I had like 9 of those to start with. He asked me where is the rest (idiot) Told him "it's in my belly, cause I ate it all and I can throw the last one in the garbage, which I did. They wanted to fine me over $850- for this, but I talked my way out of it. SO long story short, Do not take any food with you, especially spices or meat products. They will pull you a side. Canadian security also scans you and rolls your hand for drugs, if you have substantial cash on you. I learned this the hard way. Always have a few apples and a water bottle and before going thru security check, empty the bottle and place it in their bin. Once you go thru security, just re fill it at a bar or washroom. Apples are ok and security cannot confiscate empty bottles. Go figure
We also went already from NAIA terminal one to NAIA terminal 3. But we just took a grab taxi. Absolut convenient!
So sorry to hear all those troubles Gio. No more stop over ever again. Rest up well as you get home. Your wife will be happy to see you
Hi Gio,..great 👍 video on your trip back to the Philippines.
Sorry 😐 that you had some "mishaps/hickups" on your trip.
Hope that you arrived well at Dumaguete.
Take care and stay safe.
why so many connections? Fly to LAX and then to Manila?
Yes, flying from the States to the Philippines can be an adventure. I have flown on EVA great airlines but a 7 hour layover. My wife prefers PAL nonstop to Manila, but we had a 9 hours delay at JFK due to the plane out of the Philippines being delayed. I have taken the shuttle, but from terminal two to terminal one, thank God no hassles other than waiting for it. You will be home soon. Take care of the great video.
Why do they scan your laptop? What does it do? I heard someone tell me they made him open his phone and they looked through his phone. Is that even legal?
Yea, I was wondering if they were going to ask me about that.
It's Canada where you have no rights
They scan phones. PC etc and copy everything for the TSA anc security reviews and they see e everything on ur PC or phone in the duplicate they already got from ur pc etc. A a fukn ruthless violating people right.
I’m not sure about Canada, but looking through your phone, laptop, tablet, etc in the U.S. …without a warrant is a violation of your 4th Amendment rights. They can test those items for various things, but they aren’t supposed to look through them.
I imagine you could refuse the security looking through your laptop unless they have a warrant. But, I’m not sure.
Incheon, Haneda, and Narita are my favorite airports!
I'm so sorry for all the bulshit you went thru. This is what it is now. not like before. I hope you're ok and arrive safely to see your wife. Welcome back to the Philippines!!
interesting
Its more fun in the USA... safe travels..
Oops on onward ticket, Oops on etravel form. Korean Air is a great airline. My layover in Incheon was always 4 hours there from Florida though, can't sleep on those hard benches either (don't get any sleep in the air). lol...doesn't look like you got much either. Glad you made it back otherwise as am sure all your subscribers are. Rest up Gio, seeya laterz...Jim
I am taking pb&J, pancake mix and tortillas. Hope no issues.
You are a patient man G.
I booked a room at I believe it was Wings when I had a long layover in Manila. It was in terminal 3 upstairs. The flight check in was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Decent room for a decent price. Had shower access and was fresh for the final leg of my flight.
May of 2023 I traveled to the Philippines. Cebu is where I ended up. Had all of my stuff in two carry-ons. No problem on three different aircraft from two different airlines. Head back home a month later and one of my carry-ons is suddenly too big. It had to be checked. Different airlines, but the exact same type of plane. I tried telling the ticket agent that it would fit just fine, but once they get something in their head you are going to do it their way. On that trip they were still checking covid vaccinations. No one has ever asked for my etravel registration until I've arrived in my destination country (Philippines). And half the time they don't even ask for it there. They've always checked for an onward ticket before leaving the states.
Good day from Vancouver.
Cebu to tpe to Chicago. Fastest route eva air. About 21 hrs total time
Glad you made it back safely. I live here in the Philippines also and will not fly in or out of Manila anymore. I fly out of Cebu on Emirates. It might cost a little more but it is worth it
I've learned my lesson
My gosh Gio! What a brutal itinerary! We are all pleased you returned home safely.
I can't do all the layovers. Chicago to Incheon, then Cebu. Cheers!
Never again for me.
Definitely a "Do not try this at home" trip!
So did you get the seasoning through customs? I avoid going to Canada.NAIA is a nightmare. Transferring between terminals is a huge hassle. Glad you made it back safely. Take care.
Yes It did
You were lucky with the spices. I had similar instance going through Singapore. They wanted to open container to inspect. When I got to Manila they wanted to inspect it also. BUT because the seal was now broken I was not allowed to keep. The joys of international travel.
I'm sure you are happy to be back in the Philippines. I'll be heading back on July 23rd. I fly on Starlux which is a Taiwan airline. They're pretty good and not as expensive as others flying in and out of LAX. Gio when is the best time to purchased the onward ticket? I've never used it before but wanted to try it this next trip. Thank you
I have never travelled on Air Canada or have a stop over there
Gio you got my vote! I think they are my 2 favorite airlines. But I am not sure if i want you as a Travel buddy . LOL
how bout flying into Clark? do they have the connecting flights you need?
Yes Clark has flights to Cebu
Yes, some
If your in a hurry in Manila it's faster if walk to the terminal nice path
Gio...have you ever had a layover in Doha?
No
Seriously, thanks for making my trip back to Michigan from Ecuador next week to visit family for a few weeks seem like a couple of commuter flights. I will not be complaining at all ....absent a lousy neighbor on the plane😉.
At least the bin door broke and the cabin door didnt blow off. Is that a tablet or PC you are viewing? Beside you. Looks compact. Thanks for posting
Phone
man, one day I want to be like Gio and travel the world with no job! nice life! go for it
How many flights was that Gio?
I'm looking to get to NY in August. Its looking like Cebu to Taipei to NYC. Just two flights (China Airlines)
5
That South Korea airport has great internet if you ever have a long layover there like I did on the way to the Philippines.
I feel your pain or frustration, whatever you want to call it. I have been flying back and forth from here to the US every 4 months for the last three years. It has become a drain on my finances and my body. It's not bad the first few times, but after trip 5 or 6, it starts to become tiring, especially if you have to haul a** across the entire airport to catch your connecting flight. I have tried several airlines. Qatar, Turkish, and Delta. None them compare to Korean Air. Korean Air is just better in every way , specially the airport in South Korea, as you mentioned. If you have a long layover, they have a nice sleeping area for transfer flights. It's free. The only thing is it is sometimes full because it is open to all. They are by far my favorite. Unfortunately, they partner with Delta for the last hour flight to my hometown. But otherwise, I use Korean Air the rest of the way. I have had many of the same issues you have talked about. The different airlines have swapped stuff in my bag. I asked, and they said it was for explosives. I have also been asked to step out of line for various reasons. Some airlines allow 23 kg some only 20 kg. So that and the return ticket. I also used onward from your link. Works with no difficulty at all. Quick and easy fix. Also, most Korean Air aircraft have USB charging ports on the seat now. So, I do not worry too much about trying to charge my devices. Anyway, I am glad you are home safe.
Korean business class all the way baby!
Also need to use the airport lounges it makes your journey more enjoyable.
Definitely the business class lounge food is pretty good and it's another good place to wait to your flight. I like to go to the sleeping lounge area after grabbing some free food in the business lounge. All around makes the journey way better.
I have made this trip from Chas, SC to the PI, 11x in the last 2 yrs.
I refuse to go around my ass, to get to my elbow...
I like Delta/Korean (8x), but you have to catch a Grab to another terminal or a hotel on arrival.
Now lean United (3x) from SFO to Manila non-stop, because it lands at NAIA T3, Belmont and Savoy hotels are 2 mins away over the Resorts World airbridge, no Grab or taxi is needed, and Cebu Pacific (also T3) is my preferred regional airline to get around the PI.
Too many "problems" can arise on that many connecting flights.
And Manila is one raindrop from you missing your flight as you try and change Terminals from arrival to departure, stuck in traffic, while a scooter rider argues with a Jeepney driver for 2hrs, about a $.27 Hello Kitty sticker that fell off the scooter fairing, when he tapped the mirror as the scooter is lane-splitting....
Shorttime hotels behind Kenny Rodgers Roasters on Roxas is good economic way to rest between flights. Take a taxi from airport.
wow that's allot of layovers & stops going from the US to the Phils
How long were you in transit from the time you left the 1st US airport until landing in 'Duma ?
Maybe 26 hours
Hello Gio, Im in Dipolog City right now. I have always used Delta Airlines to Incheon and then Korean Airlines to Cebu for all my trips. But it cost me over $4100 this time. OUCH. I will find something better next time. Dumaguete was a nice place for a couple of days too. Take care.
Hi Gio, I saw your Amazon list of great items, question, does the USA Roku stick work in the Philippines? or is there actually a special Philippine Roku stick??🤔
Well, actually it's better to get the Amazon fire stick international version
I really like EVA
Seattle to taipie to cebu. Easy.
Get some rest buddy....you look pretty beat!!! Welcome Home!!!
One time, back in my day, I was returning to US after a fun 3 month climbing season in Nepal. My luggage was typical outdoor gear. At immigration they searched my backpack. In my kitchen stuff they found a few old bouillon cubes all wrapped in foil. Alarms were sounded and soon I was surrounded by 4 cops and hustled into a private room. The cops thought they had found the motherload and I was a cartel kingpin . The whole process took an hour and was almost laughable. I tried to tell them up front. In the end they realized I was just some granola hiker type and let me go.
Still better than connecting through Manila!! :-)
Wow Gio, I remember that part of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, I've sat in that area a few times myself, I know you're happy to be back "home".
Yep, fly from anywhere to LAX then LAX to Manila non stop via united or Philippines airlines…done. I think you can go from San Francisco to.
I did E travel registration on internet last time in February. Are doing the form again?
Yes when you return again
When it rains it pours
Korean Airlines is awesome
Good thing you got out before the travel bans
OMG. Didn’t they see that the seal wasn’t broken yet? I guess I was lucky. I brought the same stuff along with a big bottle of bbq dry seasoning and didn’t get checked. By the way that Cavenders is made right here in Arkansas and it’s the best. Great on fried cabbage among other veggies
6 weeks ago, I had a heffer at SW Airlines in Houston try to argue with me that I was "Required" to have a return ticket to the United States to board. Sorry, this one has escaped the rate race!😂😂😂😂
When a country gives a permit to an airline. The airline agrees to certain requirements. One of which is to require passengers to show proof of an exit ticket to that country. Airlines are subject to large fines and can lose the permits to fly if they allow one way tickets. This process helps said countries with immigration laws. Basically they get the airline to screen passengers for them.
It's the hoodie:)
😂😂
That sounds stressfull , yea win I go to manilla philippins, I'm going to do one flight from Atlanta Ga , I hope
Since Covid flying is not the same. Plus flying multi airline can be a night mare.
I am off to Korea end of July for a short visit. What is Korean E Travel requirement ? I am Australian travelling from Australia.
i always fly delta or american from wisc never had that many stops . ohare to tokyo to minila its about 26 hrs
Last time from Wisconsin we did MSP to Tokyo to MNL, was a good trip
As an airline employee I enjoyed this one. But the busted door trying to shove your bag into the overhead by the FA takes the cake😂.
??? How do you book tickets now? Through Eva and Korean Air separately or a 3rd party booker?
3rd party. Skyscanner
Painful 🤔
Yeah direct is best I paid a bit more but worth it it's all about your time
Manila is a good airport they can have that happen at any airport
Damn, that’s a crazy connecting flights. I feel so lucky to live close to SFO. Philippine airlines to manila then connecting to Panglao. On the bright side, you don’t have to go work the next day.🤣
Wow, Gio. The trip hasn’t been easy so far. I’m so surprised the security took so much time testing the Greek seasoning. That is weird. Scanning your laptop seems unusual too. What are they looking for - images of child pornography?? Then trouble with your carry-on luggage, etc. Boy, you’ll be relieved to finally get home!
Not sure what they were looking for.
Wow you had a run around crazy. I use Surfshark from you over 2 years now. Happy your back home safe. Get your coffee from your friend 😂😂😂
Please consider to vlog an explanation of _simp_ . I'm unclear about simp. Has the simp met his girlfriend ? If a man helps support his girlfriend, is he a simp ? What is the definition of _simp_ ?
Everyone seems to have the definition of it.
I normally fly direct LAX to Manila with PAL. I’m leaving the end of the month and decided to save money with 2 layovers. Hawaii and then Tokyo. I’m hoping it all goes smoothly 🤞
How much money are you saving?
