He needs to go to the US embassy and get a flight back to the US ASAP. They will pay for your flight but you will have to pay them back.
Once back in the US he can find a shelter and start looking for work with the help of social services.
I do not understand what he is doing in a foreign country without money.
- WW
He is clueless, he has made bad lifeline decisions. Sadly, the taxpayers will subsidize this loser for the remainder of his life.
A loser in America will be a loser in the Philippines.
On the run. Major felon
People don't like in others what they see in themselves.
i changed my mind , he may be legit
Oh man,so many, many losers,i think its pretty funny.
but he still gets to date palm-ala handerson in phillipines just like when he was in the west
This is what happens when broke westerners watch RUclipsrs here who say they can come here and live on $500 a month, or get work, or live a good life on little money. Obviously this guy didn't hear the truth from channels like yours Gio. The Philippines is a very tough country for a foreigner to work unless you have a high set of skills that a Filipino could not do. I would suggest he contact the Embassy and see if he can get a ticket home if he can prove he's indigent.
Yea, he needs to do something soon.
If you're very frugal, have a helpful partner, you CAN live here on less, and maybe even pretty decently, BUT NOT EVERYONE CAN! Also, experiment first, and don't commit until or unless you've worked out most of the details. Even then, proceed SLOWLY. Finally, make sure you have more than one way to access money. I'd recommend a minimum of 3 ways (i.e Credit Cards, Foreign savings account, home savings cash), and an EXIT PLAN, should things go south. Remember the saying: "Only fools rush in, where angels fear to tread."
I don’t feel sorry for him call the American embassy to get him home and he can get a job in MacDonalds He thought he would live on 500 dollars a month and get a girl 30 years younger I worked 3 jobs to support my traveling addiction this guy thought he had a free pass to the Philippines Did he think they had food stamps and rent control Fid he think the ex pates would put him through nursing school
@@GiointhePhilippines Can I get an AMEN!!!
Amen
He has to be a scammer or something else like a total loser. My guess is he just got out of jail or something worse. Imagine, 55 and from the USA and your like this, embarrassing!
Or a troll, just getting his jollies ...
Gio, seems to me this guy did something bad and needed to get out of Dodge. He got on the first plane out. That's why he'd fail a background check. and also why he can't go back . That's my take anyway
Shady character . It's embarrassing what he did , smearing tainting d good images of fellow Americans
Scott,
You took the words right out of my mouth. This guy is in trouble and that’s the bottom line. Good luck!
The guy seems like a scammer to me. He is most likely not even a foreigner or American.
Holy crap....how do you come to a foreign country this ill-prepared. Crazy!!!
When you are FLEEING, trying to stay one step ahead of the LEOs with an arrest warrant.
Fake, fake, fake
1. You bring up the inconsistencies in the story. Can't pass background check for employment but can get a passport? Wants money to get a work visa but is a sketch person to begin with. Wants to be a nurse but doesn't want a student visa? Why? Sounds like student visa would interfere with disability payments if this is a real person.
2. How many 50+ men that lived a life that would prevent them from passing a background check use emojis in their posts?
This is a young person with a fake account trying to get money.
Here's the real lesson for today: Never give money directly to a person you don't personally know.
Yeah, all the inconsistent "details" do NOT seem to add up to a believable story of what is claimed. Going to the USA Embassy would be the logical move unless he is a felon on the run. The question is how did he get there in the first place.
In summation, it sounds more like a fabricated story to get money.
I saw his post too. Checked out his profile. He posts alot of bazaar videos. He is definitely a couple quarts short of a gallon.
Getting here in May and talking both about "not having an ACR I card" and "Trying to figure out how to get a 2-month visa" really only points to 1 thing and that is his story just doesn't add up.
ACR card I believe is automatic after the second renewal of the tourist visa. First renewal is 30 days, Second is 60 days…You will get the identification card during this. This will allow you to get a bank account in the Philippines.
@@aboveitall9600 You can’t always get a bank account with the tourist ACR. I tried with BDO I think and they refused. Although it can be bank to bank. Seems nothing is standard. I have an SRRV and I was able to get a bank account with metrobank but it wasn’t enough for BPI. BPI demanded a notarized rental contract.
Yup. Either a scammer or an idiot.
Do not ever have your retirement or veterans disability income deposited in a Philippines Bank. The money is theirs and not yours.
One story I heard from an expat is that social security deposits his money on the first of the month, but the bank holds it for another three weeks. And this is just one example of how banks here treat expats. They treat Filipinas even worse.
I think you need full disclosure on that guys legal situation before trying to figure it out for him. The Philippines has jails and they're not afraid to use them.
There are more and more of these guys showing up on the radar here. A lot of that has to do with all of the smoke that gets blown in RUclips videos about "living in paradise." There are more of them on the way.
I think it's the live on less than $500 videos
@@GiointhePhilippinesI don't see the connection, because these guys go on zero a month. How does zero correlate with $500? It really doesn't. They are just not smart, or scammers. $500/month has nothing to do with having nothing IMO.
Maybe you youtubers should help them out since you are the ones baiting them in.
@@MA-tr4ti
That's a brilliant idea.
🙄🤦
That was pure stupidity sounds like he barely could afford the airfare
His story sounds really fishy to me. If there is any truth to it, this guy is a walking disaster, far worse than John. I will not sugar coat this: he had no business traveling internationally, period. He lacks the basic common sense, knowledge or financial resources for it. He got here one day before me (I arrived May 4th) and is already staring homelessness and starvation in the eye. What he needs to do is contact the US Embassy in Manila for repatriation assistance. They will confiscate his passport and hold him financially liable for repatriation costs, but the alternative is he better get used to the idea of fighting stray dogs for garbage scraps and living on the street.
This is the kind of expat that can give us all a bad name. Lightning can strike, and anyone can suddenly find themselves in a tough spot. This is not the case; his problems are all self-inflicted. Plus, I will bet real money he'd drag down anyone that did try to help him and gets sucked into his drama.
I had the same thing happened to me when using my Charles Schwab card at an ATM in the Philippines. The transaction went through and no money came out. I went home, checked my Charles Schwab account and no deduction was made. To confirm, I checked the very next day and no deduction.
Good video Gio - one you should never have to do. Good warning/advice to all those wanting to move to another country - get your shit together!
Nice video Giovanni. That being said the dried and salted fish is some of my favorite food in the Philippines
This poor fella is obviously not the brightest bulb on the tree.
👍😎! Yea I am doing as much homework to put myself in a good position!
Good topic to hear
Stupid has a strong correlation with delusional. You can't ask people to be what they are not.
What an embarrassment……. Your video covered it all. "YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID!"
Lol!!! 😆 Obviously no foward thinking by that actor🎉 Very good topic 👍😉.
I’m 51 and could be retired in the Philippines like many of you are, BUT I don’t want to risk moving there when I’m not totally prepared for anything that might happen. A simple medical issue might be enough to ruin you. I don’t want to end up like these few expats that go broke there. What are they going to do? They can’t work there, there aren’t any homeless shelters, no food banks, and no welfare system. Even if they make it back to the U.S. with help from the U.S. Embassy or from other expats, what are they going to do back in the U.S.? If they have no money, how are they going to re-establish themselves back in the states? They are going to end up homeless here….but at least have access to food banks. Doing almost anything without a well thought out plan usually doesn’t end well.
they can apply for medicaid, ask for housing assistance and live thru their ssn pension. they should not be picky in what state they want to live.in my area ,close to the border of mexico, theyre too many indigent white americans here.some, live in apt ,with room mates or dilapidated trailer homes.ive met filipino retirees here from other states.they dont want to retire in the philippines as their kids are here.i work in home health setting .here in my area there is much poverty .90% of the pop are hispanics .we dont have homeless though .
Yes. My ex-wife lives on a small disability pension (not really disabled but whatever) in government subsided housing. She doesn't live well but she gets along. Probably better than most filipinos. (In my darker moments I wonder if she regrets divorcing me or does she think, yes, I'm living in poverty, but st least I font have to put up with that jerk.)
Yes well said
The guy doesn’t have family and friends, he has made some very bad lifelong decisions and perhaps rubbed people the wrong way given no friends. Furthermore, his credit is shot. I am going to guess he was probably running away from America because he had too many issues. There are people like this out there who don’t get it and will never get it. I’m glad he’s not our problem in America, we are paying too much to the freeloaders who don’t know how to respect people.
Gio, I agree that you have to have a plan B and a plan C. You also need an exit plan.
Good info Gio.
Do you recommend a U.S. bank as being easier to deal with?
Are there any U.S. banks in Philippines, with branches?
metro bank are in usa and phillipines excellent service
It took 6 weeks for my bank to simply update my cellphone number on their system so that I could receive SMSs for online banking. I first had to cancel my online banking then re-apply for it, then I was informed I had to enter a new email address, then the clerk started taking pics of my passport with her personal cellphone saying that the bank did not have a working printer/scanner, then had to contact customer service in Manila…then call back to create a new passcode….it was a nightmare!
good video
Yup that happened to good thing I knew her family well
The saying .’up the creek without a paddle ‘ comes to mind…. 😅
Looking for love in all the wrong places looking for love in too many faces makes you end up broke in the Philippines 🤣😂
How is he even still in the Philippines legally after 30 days without getting/paying for an extension? He has already overstayed. He has a deeper, darker backstory, and could find himself in a Philippines prison very soon. 🤷
Absolutely you are correct. It takes a while almost everything to process. You need a steady income to survive in the Philippines, a descent one if you want to stay healthy. Be ready for medical expenses if you get sick or very sick. I think the people away from the city eat less Processed fo.😊😊😊
He should have went to Cambodia its a lot cheaper if he was broke being a white guy would allow him some privileges this guy is Dead on arrival 😂
Bottom line is that not everyone is going to make it. We have all made poor decisions at various times in our lives. The strong takes responsibility, rises up, and makes the necessary sacrifices to recover. I wish this guy well, but he made his mess, and he should clean it up himself rather than asking others to do it for him.
Ahhh be careful thinking your money is better off in the US. I had money in m&t Bank in the US while I was living in the Philippines for 5 years. While I was there in the Philippines someone broke into my house and stole my laptops I called the bank and told them, as to protect my money My bank started asking a lot of questions, I slipped up and told him I was living in the Philippines. From the moment I said that they froze all of the money that was in my accounts and refused to allow me to have any access to my money I had $45,000 in my bank account in the United States. They told me I had to fly back to the United States to get access to my money. When I arrived back at the bank in the USA, they gave me all my money, told me I could no longer be a customer, and escorted me out of the bank like I was a criminal.
Ouch. People need to use WAY more caution about their finances when moving to SEA countries.
Living like that is what you want. A lot of us don't want fancy houses with pools. I can afford way more than that. But I like simple Living. Adjusting to the Filipinos way. Eat rice and meat every single day that I'm there. If I want to live like an American for cheaper, I'd stay in a small town in America.
70% stud…30% muffin lol😂
Geez...what a bind. I have been to PH 3 times and just left the very day he arrived on May 3rd. I am perfectly willing to help a person who is poor...which I had done extensively on my last trip by feeding 85 kids at MacDonalds during Christmas and supplying gift bags as well. But this guy has done the unthinkable. I cannot support the ill planned expat. I did, however, meet an American expat on Negros who gets a paltry $500/month govt. pension and supports his Filipina and her 3 kids. They live in absolute squaller with no electricity, leaking roof and all manner of creepy crawlies coming into their hut at night. I took them for lunch out of sympathy but as I sat there and spoke with him I realized just how unsustainable his plans are. It's a fiasco and it's depressing. PH is not as cheap as one might imagine. It is cheaper but you still must have $$ and this $1000/month budget that I keep hearing about is foolish. Think about medical emergencies or other unseen expenses and also $$ for an outplan if you have to leave. PH is not la la land and it is not free. It can be brutally realistic.
I don't buy this. He can go to his country's embassy and ask for assistance so that he can return to his country.
Best to have a retirement income. Like Social Security. He should have waited to age 62. If I scene him there. I would tell him to go to the Embassy or Counslate.
If real, seems his life has been little more than a long series of bad decisions. No reason to think moving to a new country will change that. Folks like this will never plan or prepare for anything.
He needed a return ticket to enter the Philippines. Also to be a licensed RN there is a criminal background check. He's obviously avoiding the USA otherwise the American embassy would loan him a ticket to go home as part of their consular duties but he would have to pay the money back and most likely they would hold his passport while giving him an authorization letter to travel directly to the USA. He's seven years shy of collecting early social security at a very reduced monthly amount.
The embassy is mot going to send a homeless person back to america too be homeless here. They wanted to know where you are going to be staying...and yes they will verify it. I experienced it so I do know this much about repatriation process. Only thing is I was not homeless in PH.
This is because some experts say come on out, you can live great on 1000 a month and get a job online teaching English working for cambley
Must have got his advice from Mark T, lol
Yeah and it appears that young and old alike are hopping on that YT gravy train
Hey gio did you get injured when you were in the army
How many videos have I seen that warn of going broke in the Philippines. Have a emergency fund an a exit strategy
Interesting story but the guy needs to contact the embassy and go back to their home country. Regroup and try again if that makes sense.
Retiring in the Philippines or any other country takes detailed planning. You need a continuous flow of money to survive in a foreign country, otherwise, you'll be in trouble.
I am in late 30s and work as a software dev remotely. One of the best jobs to have for remote.
Maybe you are one of those computer jerks who keep on creating new versions that are worse than the previous versions.
Some kind of scammer that what the facts tell.
'You should have a Plan B' - This guy didn't even have a Plan A - it is the epitome of 'hit and hope' mentality.
😄👉 LUV UR T- SHIRT, HAPPY 4th IN PASIG CITY SHOUT - OUT ....👈..💭
Thank you
Can you please name the institution you worked at?
Fool. Or a scam.
It's unfortunate but completely self inflicted if true.
How did he get into the Philippines in the first place? Don't you need to prove financial capability when you apply for the visa. I had to do that here in Canada.
No.
10:49 I don't think PH is really all that much less expensive, as much as it's at a MUCH lower quality level, and that's true for just about everything. Energy (electricity and gas) and food at the grocery store seems just as expensive as they are back in the US. Perhaps restaurant food is cheaper, but then it's also "cheaper" (reoccurring theme here). Cars are every bit as expensive here as they are back in the US. Houses are cheaper (though you're not getting the same quality either), but then you're not allowed to own land, so that benefit is greatly mitigated. Grab is a LOT cheaper than Uber (thank God, as you don't want to have to drive here), but it's nowhere nearly as punctual or as convenient. You better always be ready to pay cash, as setting up gcash, and connecting it to Grab is a mistake, which means you're going to be living at the ATM (which is NOT convenient here).
I don't think these PH blogs are particularly honest about how many sacrifices one has to make moving from the US to PH. What it's like not trusting the water, how much of an on going inconvenience that is. What it's like not being able to have a real conversation with just about anyone, even though they "speak english" (I promise you, a 6 year old native speaker understands better than these people do, and try having a meaningful conversation with a 6 year old). The safety standards here are abysmal, GFCI is an idea completely foreign here, despite the fact they put plugs literally in your shower (to say nothing about the roads). What it's like doing business here, how much friction there is at every level, how no one stands behind anything. I bought a **BRAND NEW** fridge from a department store, it died within two weeks (though apparently it only came with a one week warranty), you can't conduct business over the phone, so you're forced to drag the fridge back to the store you bought it from, just for them to tell you they aren't going to do anything. Then there's the fact the quality that you're used to, from even "cheap" American consumer goods (like you'd find at Harbor Freight) is at a level far above what you're likely to be **able** to find to buy here, and if you want to find real quality, good luck. Of course, you also have to not value your time here, because every thing here will take 2 to 10 times longer to accomplish, if you can accomplish it at all. God forbid you need emergency services.
Like I could keep going on and on, the reality is, moving here is basically a downgrade in almost every way, as it injects friction and lower quality in basically everything you do, and it touches every aspect of your life. Sure you can travel cheaper, and if that's the key to your happiness, traveling from one underwhelming place to another, then this might be the place for you. But you're going to be roughing it everywhere you go, on one level or another (and usually every level). If you love camping, and you want your life to be one big hot muggy weird summer camp where you're the odd man out everywhere you go, and there is always an understanding barrier, PH will be a God send. If on the other hand you think you're going to actually "exceed" an American lifestyle, but do it for less, here's a hard fact, an American lifestyle is simply not for sale here at any price, and you can go broke trying to get to one. So I don't think you're "living a much better life for less," you're living a lesser life for less.
If he was smart enough to come to the Philippines more or less broke without doing any research on job prospects or anything then not anything can be done. Make him a sign to wear broke foreigner looking for rich Filipina and send him to the province and see if that helps. Hehehe
Hey Gio,the guy needs to get to the U.S. Embassy so he can het a ticket back to the U.S.
Teach English online about $10 dollars an hour for the lowest paid opportunities…..Mechanical Turk MAY be an option but it pays very little but it’s in USD.
He’s made a lot of mistakes but it’s not anyone else’s responsibility to fix.
If you do not have a pension, I think 200-400K cash after the age of 60 is reasonable to retire on in the Philippines. 100K will last between 4-7 years. Average life exp is 73 for males. He likely has 20 years left. He needs 300-400K without any SSI or Pension.
Getting a job at 50 not easy in the Philippines spending too much on Bars and girls ends up Broked not a good idea His lost banks charged 4 dollars per used atm
i think he posted all that to see what the reaction would be ......there is to much ...have nots...
I periodically hear of someone who heard you can live in the Philippines for $500 per month and they come here with a few thousand thinking they're going to live on that for the rest of their lives, or that they'll figure it out later. C can you survive here on $500 per month. Yes -- most of the locals do. But if you come from America or europe, you just wont want to live that way. you could live better in the US on welfare. And even if you are willing to live on $500, do some basic arithmetic! If you come here with $10,000, that will last you 20 months. Then what? If yours thinking you'll get a job here ... Typical job pays maybe $400.
Personally, I didn't come here until id retired and had reliable income from social security and investments. If you need to work for a living, have it lined up before you buy your plane ticket.
The obviously mentally impaired guy has no problem . Embassy will repatriate him. Sounds like he eill be arrested 😢 on arrival.
Go to America Embassy for Help to get back to USA 🇺🇸, they have a program for you
This is not really a proper topic for a video because anyone can use common sense and analyze this guy's situation. It is true that it's difficult to get a good job in the Philippines as a foreigner as I tried myself in Cebu, and I have over 20 years of teaching experience. However, I actually felt good that Filipinos were hired first as the economy there is in such bad shape - people need jobs!
You should only stay if you have a monthly income
Na this guy probably a criminal, escaped to Philippines, probably got a warrant out for him in USA.
For the life of me, I will never understand why these dudes come over here early in life. They’re too early to collect Social Security what little pension they have is usually never enough they never have a nest. They don’t even have a credit card or two the fall back on that would get them back home, they just simply come over here thinking since it’s a third world country. It’s only gonna be a couple bucks a day to live like a king and they find out that they’re terribly wrong. This is why I always tell people do not come over here unless you have a minimum of $2000 coming in every month until the day you die have at least $50,000 in a nest egg and if possible, have a fistful of credit cards, but at least have three of them for sure with enough credit limit to pull your ass out of a bind
I agree with having 50k USD for emergencies however do not agree on $2k USD min per month, I live well on $1600 per month and my rent is 20,000p per month have my asawa and child that I cover, all depends on life style you have, this is my take.
Pure presumption on my part Gio ..the choices this fellow makes in the Philippines is the same as in the states ..so regardless of where he is physically located, he doesn't use his head. Sorry to be blunt but if his post is 100% real, he used NO logical planning going to and/or staying in the Philippines ..his best bet at this point is: Getting on his knees and betting the one upstairs for help as there's not alot of sympathy for pure ignorance. Good video, hope others pay attention!
No money no honey fool😂
This guy has what I want, his age. I have what he needs and want,$7600 monthly. I am 65 and feeling too old.
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." - Friedrich Nietzsche
He should have went to Cambodia instead. At least he could get a job teaching English there
If you have a online job in america im sure they can work from there,
I'd say he's a hot mess but that would be an improvement. 😢
There is no criminal background check required to receive a U.S. passport.
However, country can require a criminal background check. A passport doesn’t automatically mean you get into a country.
Should be.

Yet another sad story of a expat with no income stream.
Not a SAD story, just another story of an expat with no income. Only a moron leaves the US with all of the safety nets, picks up and moves to another country with no income.
This is not a sad story. This guy did something really bad in the US and he’s not telling you.
Hi Gio, I agree with keeping your retirement funds in your U.S. bank for easier management, but I thought that if you lived in the Philippines that the U.S. bank might close or freeze your account. So I intend to give them a U.S. address for mail, correspondence, etc. But are you doing anything different in order to keep your bank acct active in the U.S.?
If he came unable to live 2 months...
I have over $500k saved and still afraid to make a move overseas 😬
500k at around 5%, in a time deposit, is 25k more or less per year. You could be fine, depending on your budget. If you get social security, in a few years, you’d do fine. In the smaller cities you will find apartments from $200.00 to 500.00 usd, per month. I have an apartment for 6,000 pesos per month. I’m lucky! But I pay on time, with direct deposit to the landlord. I’ve had the same apartment for over 8 years and same landlord. I also pay my electric and water by direct deposit, to the landlord. I take pictures of the meters, do the calculations, and then send the money. It’s a very small apartment, but I’m happy with my girlfriend. Also I take care of all minor repair expenses. Good relationships mean a lot in the Philippines.
Good luck!
This story is complete BS!
It smells like a scam Gio

I will gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger 🍔 today
He probably watched one of those 500usd budget videos and became inspired. 😂😂😂 The last thing the Philippine's need is another poor expat.
He must have taken yours and Reekay's boot on the ground advice and just came to the PH. Why waste time prepping online when he could find lodging, transportation, girlfriends and possibly employment by just walking around?
Sounds like another convict
I mind my buisness

RN means right now in the kids slang. Not a registered nurse.
Don't I feel like an idiot now lol
@@GiointhePhilippines Trust me I only know because my daughter texts that to me sometimes. “I’m at the school RN”. Keep up the good video Gio.
Gio, most of the Vloggers outside of Steve in Cavite are strangely silent about any concern of the rising tensions and military build up between China and the Phils. it seems like one should be prepared in case something touches off a hot conflict limiting flights, communications, money transfers, shipping, etc. Are you prepared for the possibility? Any thoughts? Do you think there is a heightened risk over your prior years stay?
@@johnclark1469 Gio has a good attitude of not worrying about what you can't control. But I rest assured that it's unlikely that WW3 will start over fishing rights. There's plenty of fish in the sea.
if ever China wants to invade another country, then its Taiwan first. im 100% sure that filipinos are not worried about ww3 starting in our country. otherwise, well oiled filipinos should have fled already .its business as usual!
People like this, if true, are giving expats a bad name.
This guy just might be a scammer? Maybe huh
