This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Just the other day I made a post in a raw feeding forum asking for supplement suggestions for my cats in order to fill nutritional gaps. Somebody had responded to me stating that I didn’t need to feed anything other than muscle meat, bones, organs, and some form of omega 3s. I realized then that I had to take everybody else’s suggestions as a grain of salt, and it was up to ME to do my own research in order to provide the best diet I possibly can for my pets. I don’t currently feed raw prey, so I know there must be nutrients lacking. Thats why this channel has been one of the most insightful places for me during this new transition for me and my cats. (They are one month fully raw!) I appreciate the resources you provide so I am able to learn so much more about feline nutrition, and really understand the reason behind why I add every piece of food into my cats’ meals.
I am grateful for all of this well-presented information. I know you're not soliciting comments regarding English, but I am a compulsive editor. "I wish I knew" is grammatically incorrect. I think what you mean to say is, "I wish I had known," which is correct usage. Thanks for your instruction. I have subscribed.

I cannot get my cats to eat whole prey. Even my ex ferals won't touch whole prey. Weird! Everything you put in this video, I wish I would have known when I first started.
(Adding water to kibble) Will be starting raw food diet this week. For now, the Buffalo Blue bag of dry cat food I use recommends to add warm water to the kibble then mix to release flavours and aromas. Something I never considered previously. I add little kibble and water so that when cat isn't hungry anymore the food isn't so mushy for later feedings. When adding too much water it wants to have all that first. I give the wet food first then after about 2 minutes a small bowl of dry kibble as a secondary option. Great videos and information.
My cat would always get the 'hunger pukes' as you mention at 4:37 and no vet could tell me what is going on. Last year I finally divided meals up to 4 times per day for a few months then forgot and accidentally went back to the two times per day and this seemed to clear things up. Sometimes I do leave out a little food when I go to bed in case he gets hungry at 4 am, but for the most part no more 4 or 5 am hunger pukes. yay

@@PawsofPrey Can I ask a question plz, on meat. Im conflicted on human grade meat vs animal feed meat from places that sell meat only for animals. Is it risker getting meat from local farm or grocery store meant for human grade or safer to get it from place that sell meat for animal consumption. Thank you in advance 😊
@@ladyo7254 I once read somewhere (I don't remember where now) that it's usually better to feed meat specifically meant for animal consumption, because it's meant to be fed raw. I have been on edge to start feeding raw because after watching they videos it seems that there is so much to it. Loved the tip about feeding at different times of day everyday!! We are always urged to stick to a strict feeding schedule for our pets, but in truth, do any of us eat at exactly the same time everyday? Would our pets if they weren't domesticated? Your information about stomach acid building makes sense and would help pets not fall ill if for some reason I was a little late or early with feeding them. Also may help with food aggression! Thank you for your informative and comprehensive videos.
Even in the wild they have routines actually (cats at least). Their pray is most active at dusk and dawn, so that's when they have more energy (domesticated ones as well).
It's very normal for your cat to get very active right before feeding time. The brain of a cats works like this: hunt, catch, kill, eat, clean & nap, repeat. So when its internal clock senses that it's time to eat food again, their natural instinct to start hunting kicks in (which is what it looks like on the video). I think they just needed someone to play with at that time :) Hope they stopped meowing though!
Nice.. ☺️ I look forward to your videos every week. 💚 I’m still quite new to raw.. Though I researched for a year before I started I only had my cat for 4-5 months and he’s been eating raw since week two of him living with us. I’m learning new things pretty much everyday. I’m looking forward to putting to use all the information I’ve learned in the past week and a half for his next months worth batch of food. Every batch is better than last. I also found out there’s a independent raw food pet shop just 30 minutes from where I live!!! They sell a very large selection of muscle meats, organs and bones plus other things like kefir, bone broth and other whole food supplements.. That shop gonna save me loads on delivery fee from online retailers. ♥️
I've got a really old cat we just got. I am introducing him to raw foods, while I think he is used to that whole prey stuff cause he was an outside cat before, there are a lot of foods so far he doesn't like. Some stuff if its cooked he won't touch and eggs he hates cooked or raw and he doesn't like liver. I don't know how to get him to eat that kind of stuff. But I just recently started adding bone broth to his hard cat food and he lops that all up, I think that is good for the water he doesn't drink. You can also add it to the water bowl and they will drink more water that way.
I have 2, 2 months old kitten and both of them are on raw diet. Is it normal if their stools are dark? I have been reading that dark stool means bleeding in upper GI tract. Or is it because they have been consuming raw meat with some blood thats why they pass dark stool?
I want to feed a homemade raw diet but balancing the meals and adding supplements is to confusing. Also access to optional protein sources is difficult here, since Utah is not raw feeding friendly and we have only 1 integrative vet in the state. The vets her give me grief cause I feed commercial raw and would lose it, if I started a homemade raw, even though they say my pets are in wonderful health. How do you balance the meals? Deal with the vets and find acceptable meats?
Do you recommend an automatic feeder, if you're not around for long periods, during the day? Or should you change the times, it makes the food available? Is there an automatic feeder you'd suggest, for raw/whole prey?
Ik you have a smaller breed dog, but when it come to whole prey for large breed dogs what would you suggest, as ik alot of wild prey can carry many bacteria/parasites.. I using wild prey.. would the freezing for 3 weeks that I've heard about be effective? I'm fortunate enough to not have the dog yet due to military.. but I wanna have a good base of knowledge before starting raw when I get out, any info helps!
My cat can smell the chemicals in tap water, he drinks rain water from the garden or if you pour tap water into open top container for 48hrs, chlorine returns to a gas at room temp and gases off, my cat will drink this.
Agree so much on the first point regarding ferrets! I loosely followed those guidelines starting out but didn’t feel right about them and ended up tweaking it a bit. For example one meal will be whole prey and the next will be “frankenprey” including heart, organs, bone in, etc. As a result I seem to be spared the horrible organ or egg poops some ferret owners often complain about because I never just set down an extremely rich bowl of organs only, lol
I adopted a dog that was being fed kibble and wet food. I switched to a barf diet. He refused eating the new food (both chicken and raw egg) and moved the meat out of his plate. I tried cooking the meat and he ate some of it but seemed reluctant. He was abused prior and is a very skittish dog. What should I do?
I actually found a raw diet kibble! The brand name is nature’s variety instinct the raw brand and it’s a pure raw diet kibble with no extra ingredients! And they have it for dogs and cats! (Beef version) The ingredients for dogs are: beef, beef liver, pumpkin seeds, beef spleen, carrots, apples, butternut squash, ground flaxseed, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. (Rabbit version)For cats the ingredients are: rabbit (including ground rabbit bone), pork, pork liver, pumpkin seeds, carrots, apples, butternut squash, rabbit liver, rabbit kidney, rabbit lung, dried kelp, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, salmon oil, rosemary extract, blueberries, and dried chicory root. The use monomorillonite clay for shape, mixed tocopherols as a preservative, and freeze dry it. And they have plenty of flavors too like beef, rabbit, pork, fish, etc… The point is I think you should definitely try this new stuff because it is amazing! The price for a small bag is about 15 dollars and the price for a large bag is about 30 dollars. .
I have a blue heeler, a blue heeler jack russel yorkie mix, a shitsu, a jack russel, and two great Pyrenees. Could someone PLEASE help me with the meal plans i should do while transitioning into raw? I raise rabbits, chickens, and rats.
If it's literally a whole animal with nothing removed, ground up, it's as close to balanced as you can get besides feeding it whole. If it's just 80/10/10 grinds, then no there are some missing nutrients that will need to be filled!
So interesting thank you. I love your editing skills too! Super entertaining videos and easy to learn from. I’m excited to start feeding my cats raw foods!
What whole prey do you recommend for dogs? And where do you source whole prey? I'm getting a 10 week old mini schnauzer puppy next month, and I want to introduce him to whole prey pretty soon after I get him.
As much as I’d like to feed whole prey I just don’t know if I can pull myself to do it. Rats, mice, rabbits all the little rodents are some of my favorite pets. Rats are my besties and I want my husbands cat to be as healthy as possible but it feels wrong feeding the cat dead rodents when my cat is around my rat cage all the time and surprisingly doesn’t mind the rats (they have no actual interaction but they do look at each other from a distance) but I’d hate for the cat to start seeing my babies as snack options.
Hello. I'm very new to consider feeding a raw diet to my 4-5 month-old kitten. Do I have to wait until my kitten completed his vaccination dosage to start raw feeding? Hope to get a reply from you or anyone who reads this comment that knows!!
quick question do you know any raw food suppliers that ship to uk because I've searched and searched but couldn't find any ( if you need to know why its because we plan on getting a kitten)
@@PawsofPrey I didn't realize I was killing my cat of 7yrs with what I was feeding her. She has developed a problem with her teeth and may have to have some of them removed. Thank you again, your channel has been so helpful, she's finally eating some real foods. It will be a start of a new journey for the both of us. I'm starting to eat real foods as well (Keto), and such. Would it be okay to grind all of her meals, because of her condition? Also, you made a video where you left your mask on, I must say, the curiosity was killing my cat. We would really love to see what's hidden under the mask.
I fed my dog some raw beef and he's now only laying around all the time and has no energy. Did he get a disease? I'm really worried .. i have not taken him to the vet yet because they're closed.
Could u give sum advice on where i could learn how to calculate my dogs raw food intake? Ive been feeding my dogs raw for about a year now, but ive been eyeballing. And i feel like i should fix that to a more calculated portions. Thank u
For some strange reason my kitten hates running water and loves stagnant water from my water plants. I saw her the other day drinking from a hole in the ground outside when a water bowl was literally right beside it 😂
I’m curious about dove, ground squirrel, duck, quail, and goose are a form protein. The done would be good for them too. I have access to these on a daily basis in whole form.
Yes, all of those are good forms of protein and are great as whole prey. I've been raw feeding for 40+ years and the key is variety. Feathers and fur have nutritional benefits too, so don't forget to include them (many people don't).
My puppy throws up anything that isn’t finely ground or chopped (which is hard if I use meat from the butcher) she’s a Pomeranian. She will also have massive diarrhoea if any meat is switched up. Idk what to do ;-;
Each time i get a new dog and transition them to a raw diet they become much healthier with shiny fur, better breath, etc. Cats i never had to because they were natural hunters. My siamese started hunting as a kitten and she bought down a possum almost as large as her. I only discovered its half eaten corpse AFTER i kissed her on the nose 🤮
Hi quick question I started feeding raw and my dog just started peeing like crazy is there anything to do to help with that or anyone that has had the same experience thanks in advance
Oh no. My dog would always choose to it ay different hours but I put him on a strict schedule because I have been told it's best for him and his bathroom schedule 😔😔
Thanks for the tips. You are inspirational. It’s very interesting to hear we should not feed our pets at fix time because I have been told many different ways that dogs are animals of routines and pattern. Same with my doggos they get very anxious when it’s close to their meal time. It’s time for me to rethink how I feed them.
what are some kinds of whole prey I can raise and ethically butcher myself (i have a farm) for my oversized german shepherd (who takes his time chewing bones, and has no restrictions for jaw health)?
It’s crazy that the cats won’t go for whole prey my cat will go outside walk in with a medium size rabbit hanging out of his mouth give it to me and leave . Or hide them under the couch .
As a vegetarian, I'd really struggle feeding whole pray- I could probably stomach feeding my cat a raw diet and I'm planning on it, but whole animals? It would break my heart :( I'd rather spend a little more on supplements than risk squirming myself away from a raw diet, but to each their own!
No shame in that, as a vegetarian I'm glad your willing to fed raw! You can buy ground pre-made whole meals. I buy ground rabbit, with bone and fur.. it's the entire rabbit ground up. It's not gross looking at all and it has almost no odor.. it looks just like ground beef you would get at the grocery store.
@@thetruepatriot7733 I've found out that you're right, you can buy whole prey that has been already ground up for even a cheaper price than separated cuts! :) this makes me so relieved
For me I get my dog's a big box of K9 choice beef Plus..the plus part of it means of fruits and vegetables. I as well give my dogs turkey necks buffalo neck bones duck necks chicken feet beef liver and can't forget the green beef tripe from a pet store. I as well have a big bag of grain free dog food that they get for free range for throughout the day or night if they get the munchies LOL and my all my dogs are a little bit finicky now and again we're sometimes they will enjoy their raw food but once in awhile they will chomp on some crunchy dog food I say my dogs get the best of both worlds raw and grain free kibble
I'm a breeder who raw feeds. Puppies need multiple meals each day, (depending on their age, 3-5 meals a day is recommended) as they require double the calories of an adult dog of their breed. Feeding only one or two big meals to young pups can lead to many health issues, including gastric torsion which can be life threatening.
great video!!! valuable experiences! my dog are such a picky eater... im dreamining about the day that she will accept a whole prey, or even another source of 'new' (exotic) meat... :')
If someone handed you a dead chicken would you know what to do with it? You, a human know that a chicken is food but it it had feathers and guts would you eat it? Same for your pets. They only know dried or canned.
We seriously overcomplicate things. Just feed a variety of whole food, at varied times and make sure there is always a bowl of fresh PURE water. If your pet is dehydrated even though you leave a bowl of fresh water every day, I bet it's tap water, try mineral water instead, our pets are way smarter than us and would rather be dehydrated than drink toxic chemicals like chlorine or fluoride.
Only whole prey what ive found for my dog is different whole fish. I plan to start hunting as a rookie next autumn so i can get even better food for my dog and myself.🙂
As far as I've seen over the years ( living on farms/country or city) it's not that hard to feed a dog a raw food diet other than calories "depends on how active your dog/animal is". Does/cats or animals eat anything that's available WHEN hungry. It's really not this hard. Animal's eat when ever food is available, days could go by (fasting). Stop being so freaked out about food. "Protein, fat, calcium, hydration (Water)- " pretty simple.
Like how she's said that one shoudn't forget that they are resilient but you go on and on about the last details of your pets diets, hope you care for your family and human loved ones just as much
@@cadencesturgeon3561 You dont really need to weight everything etc. Also if the diet was insufiicient in some parts and she corrected them at 8 months of age of the puppy (which is really late), the puppy would already have some problems - small or big would depend on animal. If the puppy didnt have problems it was fine the way it was.

The nutritional gaps was one I wished I did and adding.more water. Now my 13 year old cats has health issues!
Awh :( I hope the issues are treatable
And they have plenty of flavors too like beef, rabbit, pork, fish, etc…
The point is I think you should definitely try this new stuff because it is amazing!
The price for a small bag is about 15 dollars and the price for a large bag is about 30 dollars. .
I would love to read some of those books as well! Could you recommend some please??
I have a blue heeler, a blue heeler jack russel yorkie mix, a shitsu, a jack russel, and two great Pyrenees. Could someone PLEASE help me with the meal plans i should do while transitioning into raw? I raise rabbits, chickens, and rats.
Are whole prey grind mixes with a 80-10-10 ratio, balanced?
If it's literally a whole animal with nothing removed, ground up, it's as close to balanced as you can get besides feeding it whole. If it's just 80/10/10 grinds, then no there are some missing nutrients that will need to be filled!
hello, I'm quite new to Raw feeding. Can you recommend some books for me to read. Thank you a lottttt
can you share your plan
I discovered that my cat likes his dry food more when I mix in a bit of water.
what to feed senior dogs, if i just Started Raw Feeding
Do you add supplements like morning / evening if feeding twice a day. or within that weeks?
quick question do you know any raw food suppliers that ship to uk because I've searched and searched but couldn't find any ( if you need to know why its because we plan on getting a kitten)
There are several raw feeding FB groups based in the UK. I highly recommend joining a few and asking there. It’s a pretty amazing community 😊
Try pro dog raw. Ordered yesterday, delivered today. 🙌
@@God-Almighty ok ty but i can use it for cats right
@@k9crew731 honestly i would imagine yes as it crushed up so cats would easilt be able to eat it
@@God-Almighty ok thank you
Thank you so much!!
God bless!!!

I didn't realize I was killing my cat of 7yrs with what I was feeding her.
Is there a raw company that offers whole prey for dogs?
Many! rodentpro.com / primitivechoice.com / hare-today.com / rawfeedingmiami.com / mypetcarnivore.com
Can you maybe link some studies you found? I'm having trouble knowing where to find more information
Where are y’all finding this whole prey food???
I fed my dog some raw beef and he's now only laying around all the time and has no energy. Did he get a disease? I'm really worried .. i have not taken him to the vet yet because they're closed.
Someone please help. I plan to go to the vet as soon as I can. Is this normal?
Could u give sum advice on where i could learn how to calculate my dogs raw food intake? Ive been feeding my dogs raw for about a year now, but ive been eyeballing. And i feel like i should fix that to a more calculated portions. Thank u
My videos should help! I have a balancing playlist. But in the next month or so we will be releasing a lot of helpful tools to make balancing easier!
hey can you do a rabbit feeding pls
Hi, their vid is mainly on raw feeding so rabbit diet probably wont work. However I could help if you like :) (I have 3 freeroam bunnies)
My puppy throws up anything that isn’t finely ground or chopped (which is hard if I use meat from the butcher) she’s a Pomeranian. She will also have massive diarrhoea if any meat is switched up. Idk what to do ;-;
Each time i get a new dog and transition them to a raw diet they become much healthier with shiny fur, better breath, etc. Cats i never had to because they were natural hunters. My siamese started hunting as a kitten and she bought down a possum almost as large as her. I only discovered its half eaten corpse AFTER i kissed her on the nose 🤮
woah i never knew about the last one!!!
Quail, rabbit, chicken, partridge, duck, and mice are what I think of off the top of my head!
I just figured out that last tip today & I’m soo happy because my pug would randomly throw up yellow liquid from hunger barfs!
Baby Matsu!!!
where can i buy whole prey? I have a kitten and cant find any suppliers so far :/ i really want to get her use to it while shes still young
rodentpro.com / primitivechoice.com / hare-today.com / rawfeedingmiami.com / mypetcarnivore.com
Honestly I thought ferrets were vegetarians. We'll look at me learning something new
Watching your channel makes me want to go broke and get a dog to feed raw lol.
@Child of Weather To a point yes.
I felt the need to tell you that Dr. Marty Goldstein came on as an ad at the end of your video ❤❤❤
Oh nice lol!
It’s crazy that the cats won’t go for whole prey my cat will go outside walk in with a medium size rabbit hanging out of his mouth give it to me and leave . Or hide them under the couch .
I fed my dog whole prey (I grind those myself) because i dont want to overthink and calculate everything every single meals.
Whole prey as in...? Mice? Chicken? Quial?
@@luqman7107 yes, I brought frozen rats, quails, sand skinks and grind them up. I don't fed my dog grounded chicken because of her itchiness
Use more raw egg and livers and you will cover the gaps. Tx for video though, good to think about these things
Can I feed my medium sized puppy raw pork ribs? 🥺
It's more of a harder bone for a puppy although with supervision sure!
NO BONES
@@thetruepatriot7733, where do you find them?

"Raw Feeding Miami" or "Top Quality Dog Food" are two great companies that ship.
And I wish I knew your chanal five years ago too.
Is it okay to feed once/twice a day occasionally for puppies instead of three times though?
For puppies they need multiple small meals throughout the day, but if that's just impossible for you, just do the best you can.
All the turkey at my store has rosemary extract or "natural flavoring". Is rosemary safe for cats or should I look elsewhere?

Like how she's said that one shoudn't forget that they are resilient but you go on and on about the last details of your pets diets, hope you care for your family and human loved ones just as much
Guts the branded
~__^
I would checkout Dr. Karen Becker if i were you.
Maybe because all dogs are one species
I think you are overthinking it so much! But i guess if you enjoy it and those cuties are getting everything they need its fine !
How is this overthinking? She's literally explaining how to give your pet a nutritionally complete diet -.-
@@cadencesturgeon3561 You dont really need to weight everything etc. Also if the diet was insufiicient in some parts and she corrected them at 8 months of age of the puppy (which is really late), the puppy would already have some problems - small or big would depend on animal. If the puppy didnt have problems it was fine the way it was.
@Sweetbriar Yea weighing is important mainly for new ppl to raw feeding. Wont write more cuz I am writing this for 6th time as my YT reload everytime I finish and want to post comment. If you dont see the overthinking part its pointless for me to point it out cuz you wont think the same if you didnt see it before.
