I love the humor but Edmure feels like a comic relief. In books Blackfish wanted to help him and Edmure gave him the bow after he missed the 3rd shot. Also he said it's not a shame to miss and Edmure needs to hear that.
It’s comic relief but also communicates that Robb’s army is faltering. Since the show can’t spend as much time as the book has to deliver massive amounts of exposition and develop hundreds of minor characters, some plotlines and character relationships are condensed or simplified so they can be conveyed cinematically and in a compressed timeframe. People are bitching just because this is different from the books but it serves its own purpose in the show, which is an adaptation in a different medium lol
@@gatotsu2501 They just make Edmure look pathetic. And i didnt feel like it's a subtle nudge to anthing, only for giggles. Which is funny, but i just kinda feel bad for Edmure all the time.
I hated the adaptation of this scene from the book. in the book Edmure missed the shot because he was overcome with grief, and his uncle kindly takes over from him, reassuring him there's no shame in him missing the target. he doesn't shove him aside or treat him with scorn. and catelyn at the same time has nothing but love and sympathy for her brother and the pain he's in while taking over responsibility for the riverlands from their father. erasing these nuances, reducing the characters to caricatures, is one of the reasons the show fell apart once DnD ran out of pages to adapt and why the changes to existing material continually fell flat.
Haven’t read the books and absolutely loved the scene. If shows/films were direct 100% faithful adaptations of books they were based upon then what’s even the point of making them…

Am I the only one who thinks that Robb Stark looks more like a younger version of the Blackfish than Ned? He was described as having Tully features more than Stark ones.
this scene in the books was SO MUCH better. Blackfish doesn’t shove him, he tells Edmure there’s no shame in missing, because Edmure’s riddled with Grief.
When it was the best show on television, when everything was being judged by it, it was the gold standard... and it fell so hard, the good years just seem hollow...

It is so much better in the book for this scene. Sad that the show use Edmure as a comedic / clumsy character. He just lost his father and is the new lord. He is super tense and deeply sad. In the book, Blackfish support him kindly to shoot the arrow mentionning that this happened to his father as well before.
He nearly hit the boat, ppl are making fun of them but that's a really difficult shot to make. This scene displays no oafishness, merely that he is average or slightly above average in archery skills.
The show tries to portray him as incompetent in this scene. In the books, he keeps missing because he can’t stop crying, and is hungover from the night before which he spent drinking in grief.

Look at the surrounding additional cast. So many of them pass for Tullys.

Why because he can't hit a moving target with a bow and arrow? Can you do that?
A butchery of the character from the books, who failed because he was in so much grief he couldn't hold the bow properly.

There is something so childish and petty about this scene. It shows the character flaw in the writers that ruined the later seasons.
