Thank you for sharing your thoughts genuinely❤ I am over 50 and been a journal/ planner nerd since I was 8! Long time😅 I worry that the planner community may be the cause for all the planner fails. Every body wants the same system/planner/planner cover/pens and high lighters....sometimes all a gal needs is paper and pen! Being true to oneself brings out creativity and originality which are gems. I hope you find your happy planning place again❤
no one hates their journals and planners more than influencers. the amount of hopping, overbuying and setups just to never use the book again is insane
Thank you so much for your feedback! I feel like the planner community definitely plays such a huge role in our system content-ness so it’s all a huge learning process 😭 I appreciate you being here! 💕
@@AllTheArtsy not all of us jump around. Many of us found our groove and are content. We might change things up in our system from time to time but we complete them and love to go back over them. Just depends a lot on who you follow I think - bc there’s definitely both being shared. I do agree though that there’s been a lot more hopping the last couple of years. Seems like many focus on what’s trendy or cute (the aesthetic vs function) and many don’t know what the actually need for planning. Just my 2 cents of course.
I am going to be honest here for a moment, I really enjoyed watching your cousin videos. I myself have a day free, which I adore to pieces and is fantastic for my needs, but I really liked seeing the art you produced and how you made the cousin uniquely yours. I never thought about journaling on a weekly section or just drawing all over a planner, but the way you worked your cousin was so inspiring, I even second guessed a few times if I should move to a cousin for 2025 😂. I remember seeing a setup for a 2024 cousin at one point, do you still have that book? maybe going back to what feels right may be what you need right now. I know rings worked for you for a moment, but the fact that your busy schedule flipped the script on them, maybe it was just showing you they aren’t the right system for you after all. As I mentioned before, I have the day free which works great for me since Im more of a journal person, but I have noticed this community has REALLY struggled with finding what works for them. A lot of content creators change their set ups every month (part of it is consumerism and buying multiple products from all the companies, part of it is they want views and need to keep their content fresh), and for better or worse they end up influencing other people as to what planners to get. Resulting in a lot of people at a loss as to what really works for them and their needs. My best advice, turn off other voices and see what your inner voice tells you. We are human, we all go through fomo, it’s normal to look at a new shiny thing and want that, but at the end of the day a planner is just a tool to help navigate your life. It should compliment your life, not add stress and anxiety to it. Best of luck!
@@gabucha26 thank you so so much for this comment! You have so many good insights especially the culture of the planner community and I think as a creator sometimes it’s really easy to get caught up in it all. I think I’ve definitely hit a lightbulb moment with the cousin so that’s how I am going to move forward and I’m very excited. It’s so cool to hear that you enjoyed my previous cousin, thanks so much for being here through all the changes 🩷
Sometimes I feel bad because I’m not having a lot of planner struggles. My planners are working and although they could be improved and better they function and I enjoy them. But my planners I launched for 2025 are a better fit so I’m super excited for them to arrive and set them up! 10:36 Is this your planner or your journal? You keep mentioning planner and work but it looks like a journal. One thing I’ve seen around the community in the last couple years is the number of people struggling with their planners - abandoning them, not using them at all, struggling to find the right fit. But more often than not I see folks trying to mix their journaling and commonplacing with their planning instead of focusing on them separately. All though it sounds nice to combine them and archive them together and aesthetically it looks so pretty, planning is a functional thing. It can be pretty and fun but its focus is function. And sometimes mixing the two and trying to make them one causes issues. Ignoring all the fomo and pretty covers and the stress that causes on finding a good fit - I think shifting the focus to what you truly need for planning and finder that fit is key. Then you can make it pretty or decide to add other aspects with it. Or you can just keep that separate. There’s a reason that lists and a plain notebook and sticky notes can temporarily work for us for planning - bc it’s just about function.
Great point about planning and journaling being together. I realized after trying One Book July that in order for my planner to help me be more productive, it is better for my journal to be in a separate book.
Im so glad you haven’t had a lot of planner struggles! That’s how I was last year so I definitely know the feeling 💕 It’s a planner and journal combined, my brain absolutely does not work if these two are in separate books so I keep all my functional planning information in my monthly calendars and weekly spreads, and all my journaling goes on my daily pages. It’s a system that has actually worked really well for me, the format is what I think I’ve struggled with this summer. I appreciate your input! All this reflection has definitely helped point me in the right direction moving forward. Thanks for being here 💕
@@torionpaper I’m the same, I need them to be one book otherwise I get overwhelmed and won’t keep up with them😅 also the redundancy of it bothers me because there’s always gonna be overlap! I don’t want to write that I went to the dentist twice😅
Thank you for sharing this! As someone with severe ADHD, I know I need a system that is low effort but appealing enough for me to keep using. I’m also a person that wants something even less if the algorithm keeps shoving it down to me. Despite that, I almost caved and bought a filofax due to me seeing it constantly. I’m so glad I didn’t. I already know the TN has been working for me so effortlessly with an insert for my running lists and an insert for my journal. It needs to be as simple as it can be for me to not get overwhelmed for me to not drop the habit. I think we all eventually realize we’re all different and what works for others won’t always work for you.
I’m so glad you have this figured out for yourself! I totally understand the low effort but appealing to keep using. I think for me that will always be the cousin but we will see! Thanks for being here ❤️
I have ADHD too and the one thing that works best for me is a system that is flexible enough for me to change every couple of months. New book, new size, new layouts (hand-made in blank notebooks). I do eventually go back and finish the half-empty notebooks. Whats working best for me right now is a TN because the inserts are slim enough to change regularly.
I’m so glad the TN is working well for you! It’s definitely a staple for so many people and it shows why. I hope you enjoy the 2025 Travelers shopping season!
Thanks for sharing - you are definitely not alone! Preview season will blow up my system every time if I don’t limit my exposure - I just get sucked into some fantasy of the perfect planner/perfect life. But I think it’s fair to say different times in life we need different things from our planners. I started the year in a hobo A5. When that was too much I moved to a weeks. When I needed room to journaling I added an A5 Leuchtturm but didn’t like having two books. Now I’m in a standard Travelers notebook with 5 inserts: monthly calendar + daily log/lists on the left, commonplace book and kraft folder on the right and in the center is my journal insert (middle makes it easy to swap out often or to slip out to write more flat). At least with a TN I can change up certain things and have flexibility without having to start all over with a new system/size/cover. Good luck to you and thanks again for the relateable and honest video ❤
Thank you so much this and your understanding! I’ve definitely limited my access more this year but for some reason still needed all of these changes. Thank you for sharing about all your book changes! I hope the rest of this year treats you kindly in your books 💕💕
Thank you for being so honest and transparent with your planner journey. I've been at this a long time, and it isn't easy to decide with so many enticing options. You probably did the best thing you could have done when you took a break. I think we planners get so caught up in the "new" stuff ( same stuff, different details) and the process, that we miss the cue life sends us: stop for a minute and reflect. What worked? What didn't? When was I happiest and just humming along?( I think you indicated the answer to that, for you) I think you're on the right track and you'll be able to decide what's best when your work slows down, and pumpkin spice is in the air! TFS!
@@abbaschild2499 thank you so much for this comment! I think you are exactly right and hindsight can be super valuable in that way. I think taking a step back has really helped clear some of the noise and I’m excited to move forward 💕 thank you for being here ❤️❤️
Although in theory the SI sounds good one thing that you just showed is that you didn’t like the Papertess Dailies which are undated but do love the Cousin which are dated. Definitely think about that…I know so many “love” the undated “dailies” in theory I see more struggling since using them. They actually need the structure of the dates (even if they ignore them sometimes to add more flexibility) and the idea of having enough or not enough and making them work overwhelms. Just something to think about 💗 There are also other amazing shops that have the same basic format as the cousin as most are replicating that. Some of us have more unique layouts but if you like the Cousin but need something in a different size there’s the Journey planner, the Rosey life planner and aura Estelle too. Since you don’t like bundled the W222 and my planner won’t work for you.
Yes you are absolutely right! After watching this over I 100% agree with you. I don’t like an empty page but also don’t like doing a page per day so just ignoring the cousin dates has traditionally worked best so it seems silly to stray away from that. Thank you for all your input!
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been struggling with the planner scaries - you’re not alone, lots of folks in the community are Going Through It™️!!! I hope you find something that works for you soon and that the autumn is a more chill time for you ❤️
Honestly, before discovering fancy planners like Hobonichi, Traveler's Notebook, and Leuchtturm, I used a simple, inexpensive notebook for my tasks and notes - just a pen and paper, no frills. I miss those days. Now, these planner and journal trends are draining my savings. I was like,.. gosh! What is happening to me.? Smh. For 2025, I vow to stick to functional planning - no more splurging on stickers and excessive planner purchases. Wish me luck!
I wished my brain worked like this! If it’s not pretty, I’ll just abandon it 😂😭 I think if you can find the balance between stickers and minimalism, then you can find something that works functionally for you but still makes things enjoyable 🩷
Good for you for not trying to make “fetch” happen 😂. I hope that makes sense. I love my cousin- it’s only my first year in it, but I’ve been planning for decades. I placed my order for hobo next year, plus I use a Laurel Denise planner system. It’s not a book system, but you could check that out too. Maybe it’ll give you inspo for layouts and helping your brain make sense on paper. Thanks for sharing!
Ooo I’ll definitely check it out, thank you for the suggestion! I’m so glad you enjoy the cousin, it’s truly such a versatile book. Thank you for being here! 💕
I'm shocked honestly by how un-conflicted I feel about next year. Sterling Ink is my favorite planner company, and they're coming out with an A5 Horizontal next year which is my dream size/layout, and it's coming in their beautiful new purple cover, so I know exactly what I'm doing for 2025. I was expecting to have to make some hard decisions about what I was and wasn't willing to compromise but the stars all just kind of aligned. Hopefully they will for you too and you'll find your perfect planner.
I love this for you! That mulberry color is so beautiful so I’m glad it came in the size you wanted. I’m so glad you are feeling in-conflicted, thank you for being here!
For me, rings would be terrible because it isn't aesthetically pleasing and it's not bound. While the customization would be awesome, those 2 factors would not let me use it long term. Plus, I would worry about archiving. I bought the Sterling Ink B6 Academic Planner and thought it would work but I hate it. That purchase was probably due to FOMO. Even after adding stickers etc, I think the Hobonichi has better quality. The Sterling Ink feels light and flimsy. I also tried a Hobo A6 original with the floral A6 notebook but didn't stick to those. I don't really like having 2 books. It seems that I really do love the Hobonichi Weeks Mega and the Cousin. I think Hobonichi is often replicated but never duplicated (if that makes sense) so I will stick with them for 2025. Currently, I am back in my Mega. The Cousin is also where my heart lies, but I don't utilize the weekly enough and it gets heavy to carry. I also tend to get an itch around March and buy the Spring Cousin but I'm aiming not to do that in 2025. To curve that, I might invest in the Hobonichi 5 year ( the new collection is so beautiful) and keep it at home. My everyday will be the Mega. 😅😅😅 Edited to add: I agree with you about the Cousin. There is something about flipping through it. It's so comforting ❤. Hopefully you find what works for you. It's also ok to take a break from planning. Sometimes I do that too.
I agree with you. Hobonichi can be replicated but can’t be duplicated. There’s something about the paper and the overall feel of the planner. It’s just not the same. It still has my heart ❤️
I know what you are saying about the Cousin being replicated. Most shops seem to just make theirs a version of the Cousin. One goal I had with my launch was designing my own not copying someone else’s design and also focusing on functional effective planning and efficiency.
I agree with sooooo many of your observations! I feel like there is just a certain “magic” with Hobonichi that I haven’t felt anywhere else. I also love the springs start books as well. The mega was my first ever Hobonichi so it’ll always have a special place in my heart. Thanks so much for your input and for being here 💗
I feel you about Hobo. Cousin. When I used it back in 2022, it really became my emotional support journal and I was at my most creative. A very well loved notebook. I haven't had that same feeling since and so when the new year comes, I'll be going back to it because I need my Cousin back in my life. Would you consider going back to it? instead of Sterling Ink even though it's similar but it's not the Cousin. It seems like you really found that journal peace in it.
This is such a cool comment to read! I really do think the cousin has a certain “magic” to it. I think I’m reallllly leaning towards the cousin because even books similar size don’t have the colors/font that I prefer over the cousin so it’s definitely looking like my top contender. Thank you for being here 🩷
The Committee for the Support of Chaotic Planners welcomes you with sadness. I'm also doing a few weeks of dabbling in printable inserts in the hopes that it gives me some clarity
Such an interesting discussion! I’m sorry you were struggling with your planner, but so happy you shared your process. And the commenters have great insights, too! I love how our brains are wired differently - and have to remind myself when I see so much planner content that I don’t need all the toys, just what works for me. Through trial and error, I’ve learned that I need a system that lets me swap things in and out, such as a ring or disc bound planner. And I need to keep my work planner separate from my personal planner. I joke that I want to keep business separate because I don’t want anyone to glance at my planner during a work meeting and see that I need to buy kitty litter, but a more serious reason is that I work in HR and am always conscious that my work notes could be subject to subpoena in the event of a legal complaint. Hasn’t happened, but just the thought is enough! My work planner is a discbound notebook with customized Agendio inserts - 2025 will be my seventh year using Agendio. I use a wire-bound steno pad as my primary capture tool. My personal planner is ring-bound - mostly Wo2P with a combination of other inserts for list-making, journaling, etc. I keep a running task list, but it can be overwhelming to look at, so I use those undated daily Pen+Gear pocket notebooks as a daily satellite where I keep my wellness info and just the things I will or must do that day. Again, TFS your process and your gorgeous journal pages. ❤
Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing!! I have so many similar thoughts about my books and what I need in my system and I think hindsight has really helped with that. Thanks so much for being here, I hope your 2025 books treat you kindly next year 💕💕
I’ve had less planner confusion and the urge to planner hop after reducing how much planner content I consume. Because I found that a lot of the times I was switching up because of how much I liked something working for someone else
I'm all about rings at this point. I've planner hopped for two years. Take note, Sterling Ink, Papertess, Hemlock and Oak, Hoobinichi...I've tried a lot. With rings, if something isn't sticking, I can just switch it out. I've wasted whole planners. Lol. I'm also weird when I make a mistake in a bound book. It took me a bit, but I'll be a ring or disc girl from now on. Good luck with your journey!
@joemarreola5905 the paper is amazing. I still have their notebooks. I just wanted more portability and if I make a mistake I can just replace the page I'm working on in rings.
This year I got into pocket notebooks (which i always thought would be too small for me, but working retail, they're actually perfect). I realized that i love them for idea capture, but not necessarily day-logging (a running record of what I'm doing throughout the day). Just this week i was once again debating what I need and what in a planning-tracking system...and i find the answer in Wal-Mart - their new 3.5" x 5" pen&gear undated daily planners. Enough space to track the things i like; small enough to fit in my pocket along with my pocket notebook. Even if i end up hating it, I'll only be out $6🤷🏾 (I also figured out that this will let me use up all the undated vertical weekly planners i have by back-filling them in a color-coded fashion, to really nail down if I'll spending my time where i need to.)
Ah I love this for you! I’ve heard so much about those pocket books and think it’s such a great and affordable alternative. I also really like the idea of idea capture and not daily logging. Thanks so much for sharing 💕
I get hung up on all the options. Too many choices. I was huge into the KiKi K planner era. Then the Happy Planner came out, but it always felt juvenile for me. I’m a professional business woman and HP, although had amazing options, it wasn’t my jam. I eventually found Moterm covers and crafted my own Lux rings but that didn’t get it either. I’ve been “planner MIA” for the past year. I just cannot with all the styles, options, and sizes. 😢 I’m so overwhelmed with options. I’ve found I do well with a binder, pen, and paper which tells me I may do well with the Sterling Ink or the Cousin. I watch videos like this and I appreciate the unique struggles we all face. 😭😭 Now I’m leaning towards the Common Place. We’ll see! Thank you for the share!
Yeah having options is great but can sometimes cause paralysis on how what to use or how to move forward. Sometimes going back to the basics is best! You’ll have to update me and let me know if you try the common planner and how you are enjoying it. Thank you for being here 💕
I'm sorry you're going through these emotions right now 😢 It's totally understandable, I guess I have my 2024 divided between 3 different planners 😅 A6 really doesn't work for me, exactly because of the feeling you described while writting in them, and rings also lasted very little in my routine. Right now I'm planning and journaling at my Cousin, and I'm IN LOVE! The size is just right, I found a different and less time consuming way of using the weeklies, and I feel the urge to have my moment with it every day ❤ So I'll definitely stay with it for as long as possible (hopefully for the remaining days of the year + 2025)! From what you pointed out on the video it seems the Cousin would be a good one for you too, however, you should definitely feel it out and give yourself grace if that doesn't work either! I hope you find planner peace soon! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing! I ended up purchasing a cousin to test out as one of my “experiments” and I am also LOVING. We are only on day two so not going to say all is fixed but it definitely felt like “coming home” and it’s been a great feeling.
Thank you for sharing. ❤ you are not alone I was in the same situation as you until I found the Wonderland 222 two years ago and im going to be getting one next year also... Ive tried their different sizes but I love the B6. It is very stressful to planner hop because as you say it makes you feel lost and not getting things done or unorganized... I love your art I also do a lot of painting and doodling in my planner... hope you find planner peace soon... sending good vibes your way.😊
I’m so glad you have something that has been working for you! I think doodling and painting is so much fun so I’m happy you enjoy it too. Appreciate you being here! 💕
Another Planner Hoppers Anonymous member here. I figure it's a good way to get out my restlessness and have a reset after I've been off work sick, or the seasons are changing.
These are all such great options! I think I like the idea of all these sizes but A5 always ends up being most practical for me. Thank you for sharing 💗💕
I really enjoyed your video - thanks for sharing your thoughts. From watching lots of planners on RUclips, my gut feeling is that planner hopping is self-defeating. The more one hops, the more one feels dissatisfied, but I suspect it's not the planners that are the issue a lot of the time. My personal feeling is that boredom is not resolved by buying more stuff, but by digging into our mental state and working out why we feel we need something else. Most of us are tracking roughly the same stuff, and it breaks my brain that some people seems to need eleventy-three different planners to deal with their lives. @JustScribble made a great point below: splitting your planning and journalling is a wise move, and it can allow you to see more clearly what you really **need** and then what you want. Your Cousin from last year looks creative and fulfilling when you share the flip through of it, and honestly, I have yet to find a better designed book for general life and thoughts organisation.
Thank you for your input! I’m definitely someone who has greatly benefited from hops in the past but moving forward I would like to try and workout my issues in just 1 book and I think the cousin is the best space for me to do that. Appreciate you being here!
Size matters! I was an A6 person for couple years then fail after fail 😮. When I tried a B6 slim it was perfection. Consider size vs types as your searching around. That changed up my planner /journaling life❤ Thanks for sharing your frustrations
It sucks that you are dealing with planner chaos. Hopefully, you will find something that you truly enjoy, even if it's going back to the Cousin. I have found out this year that an A5 undated planner works best for me because I can set everything up exactly how I want it. I love a monthly with a Sunday start, but my weeklies have to be a Monday start. Then my dailies need to be undated so that if I skip a day or few, I don't feel bad, and I can make whatever layouts I want on the dailies. I have enjoyed watching the planner release videos and living through others.
Thank you so much! I’m definitely feeling much better since posting this. I think no matter how much I was a “cutesy” small book, the A5 is my sweet spot. I’m glad the undated works so well for you! Thank you always for being here 💗
IMO, it really was seeing a few of our fave creators change to rings. The fomo was real. Then when we started to think rings was going good and we finally found planner peace, they started switching back to tn or hobonichi 😭 the weeks + cousin combo is always #1 for me
I totally get it! Life changes! I have my work and personal schedule, my kids work and personal schedule and the classic HP boxes are too small for me. In the full calendar! The Big HP is so big, lol! I’m going to try a daily planner. I love rings and discs because I can take the pages out and write and I love to decorate the pockets and pages. But I have a classic HP on standby just in case I need to go back! 😊❤
I’m so glad you have your system worked out! And yes being able to incorporate the kids schedules on top of your own is SO important. Both my kids started school this year so I feel this HARD lol
It’s so interesting how many people are coming back to the cousin as their comfort book! Even before August reveals began, I had the same thought as you, missing how it brought out more of my creativity and was more than just functional somehow. If the Cousin Avec came in English it would be my perfect planner, because mine do chunk up a lot compared to yours! This year I’ve stuck with a B6 common planner full year in a very functional bullet journal style. A part of me is worried that tactile in the moment enjoyment (especially for inks and paints) is gone without the old Tomoe River Paper. Which means no layout will help even if it’s the familiar Hobonichi one. My mental health take a nosedive in July and August too and I haven’t been able to pinpoint why. I am very uncomfortable in hot weather but also sleep terribly in air conditioning so I know some of it is basically a reverse seasonal depression. I’m already feeling the shift to better times this week-Hang in there!
Ah sending you so much love regarding your summer scaries! I agree with sooo many things you mentioned especially about the new sanzen paper! I just think the quirkiness of the cousin makes it so much more approachable compared to other brands and no matter what paper other brands have, if they layouts aren’t right I don’t think it will ever work for me 😭 I hope you get some more clarity soon! You’ll definitely have to keep me posted 💗
Thank you for sharing your thoughts ♥ I wish you all the best for the upcoming last months of 2024 and that you find a system, that supports you and brings you joy. I fell similar in times of stress and think, it's all too much and I want to change my system. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't xD It feels like a never-ending story, where - maybe - at the end of the light the perfect system waits. Currently I have a dairy in an Hobonichi Hon A5, which I'll switch to an Avec, so it can get more bulky. My planning and work stuff is happening in a TNB. My health tracking & meal planning happens in an Hobonichi weeks. AND I have a Leuchturm Bullet Journal for collections, trackers and note taking, which I tried to transfer into Notion, to have at least one book less, but, well ... BuJo was my frist planner system, that worked for me and I'm not ready to let it got 😅I think I need an Intervention >D
Thank you so much for your input! I’m glad you have so many books that can function for different aspects of your life. I wish I could separate mine but I’m definitely a 1 book girlie 😭💕
@@yolandahenry7791 It's a Traveler's Notebook :) I love the system because of its different inserts. I have my calendar, my work stuff, a BuJo on the go and a sketchbook in there :D
@@torionpaper I can totally understand you! I'd love to be a 1 book girlie, but I haven't found my book yet 🥲I hope you'll find a book soon that works for you again and makes you happy ♥
Thanks for your videos and allowing yourself to go at your own pace I was wondering what your camera set up is like? I'm thinking of creating content of my own flavor and have appreciated the simplicity of your videos. Thanks a bunch and happy hobonichi 2025
Thank you so much! All I use for setup is an overhang tripod I got off of Amazon :) I just use my phone to film so it makes everything super easy and efficient. Happy hobonichi! 💕
I know what you mean. I have always had a planner. But I am now retired, my children are grown and I only want one planner . I could not find anyone who had a planner for this time in my life. So l am using a bound plan notebook. I have created a planner that is a real all in one planner for my personal wants and needs. 😊 I have a place for weather. A gratitude place, a daily bible verse, a journal, my to fo list, my tracker, a place to track my meals and a place to track what I am reading. And it is all on one page. It is just right for me.
This is amazing! I’m so glad you were able to tailor and create a book that met all of your needs. I think that customization can be so freeing and something I have also experienced recently with a different bound book system. Thank you for being here 💕
It’s funny because for me a bundled planner is so much more efficient. When I’m planning I can focus on the month at hand. I can still get to my monthlies for marking down appointments and events but my planning is in the present and it keeps me there. It’s also so much more efficient because I’m not flipping back and forth all the time bc it’s all group. I find I use my pages more functionally because of it.
Yes I love the bundles for that reason! I think there are so many pros to having it bundled but for some reason it’s just not clicking with my brain right now 😭
Looks like the Cousin is your jam!😊 I’m going with the Aura Estelle Daily undated next year. I also bought the Wonderland 222 but not sure I made the right decision on that one.😣
@@torionpaper I do like the options. I’ve been practicing both layouts, but I’m starting to enjoy the Aura Estelle layout as an all in one. Trying to wrap my head around how I would use the Wonderland 222 instead of the Hobo weeks in my stash. I prefer Tomoegawa paper. That is why I’m avoiding a lot of the newer planners. That is the main reason why I did buy the W222.
@@Jenscraftsandjournals Gotcha! I am glad you are liking the Aura Estelle I have heard so many good things. I am sure it will all work out! You will definitely have to keep me posted
Your cousin from last year is gorgeous, almost made me want to go back to the cousin but gotta remember just cause it worked for you doesn’t mean it’s the one for me 😂
Thank you so much! I know I need to start prefacing before doing flip throughs because I’m guilty of the exact same feeling when I see someone else in their book 😭
I watched the two hour video from hobonichi with all their 2025 items. I wanted SO MANY things but at the end of the day it will be a Cousin, 2 Weeks and a cover. You know the little smudges on the back of your cousin? Mine are so much worse. Is it because we have pets? Because this place is dusty? A combination? Who knows but it is low-key upsetting. I like the cousin because I can use it or not. One of the Weeks is for money/financial. And the other weeks will be for work. This job or the next, it's stuff will live there. I like compartmentalizing. In the preview I saw a 5-year "gift" box amd almost convinced myself I needed it. I do not. I will not keep up with it. I already do a daily highlight in the monthly section and some days that's just a few scribbled words. I think it's good you've had the opportunity to hop around. It's nice to be able to try new things.
Thank you so much for sharing! I think that sounds like a wonderful lineup 😊 I think the books just attract a lot of dirt/dust unfortunately:/ luckily it doesn’t bother me too much! Thank you for being here 💕
I definitely feel the tension between visual aesthetics and tactile enjoyment. I like a bigger page like A5 for the hand feel, but the wee books are just so cute. I also sometimes wish for one book to rule them all, but often find that all the different needs battle one another. I think at the end of the day it's a problem of perfectionism and my current compromise is to have a purely functional planner for events and to-dos with no pressure to look pretty (currently in the cousin but i think i'm going back to the weeks for 2025 as that has worked for me in the past, but I also keep a digital calendar), then a smattering of different notebooks and sketchbooks to wrangle art, memory keeping, and my rambles. But I don't use page a day type planners for these chaos books as the pressure to maintain them would be ridiculous...instead I just use them as needed/wanted until they are full (though I am wavering on that for the memory keeping...thinking I might do an A6 Techo or Day Free?). All that to say, you are not alone!
Ah it’s like you are in my brain! I feel similarly on so many of these. I’ve tried separating my to-do’s with the other stuff and can never get it to work. A6 is a great option, they have SO many cute accessories this year! Thanks for sharing 💗
Thank you for sure that you are overwhelmed like the rest of us. I was a hobonichi person for four years until I found Sterling Ink. I didn't like the fact I had one day a page. Sterling Ink gave me the opportunity to have my monthly and weekly but have my choice for the daily. There are undated options available now if you want to try it. Just a thought, Also, before I started with SI I purchased a notebook from her to try the paper and to see if I minded making the dailies my own.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I’ll definitely be sure to check out all the options she has this year. I’m so glad you have found a system that works for you!
Maybe a Sterling Ink in a B6/A5. You can do the horizontal or vertical. It's the same paper in the current Hobonichi. It has more size options than Hobonichi. Personally, I need the dated pages so I can't do sterling ink but the notebooks are fabulous.
Sometimes options aren’t a good thing. I try to limit planner hopping for financial reasons. 2025 I have a Passion Planner for scripture, and I’ll be getting a cousin or a B6 SI. I like dated dailies so if I do that I’ll get her dated stickers to make it easy.
I think ring bound IS a lot of work because you have to pull the pages out. I'm in the A5 Sterling Ink dateless half year and I'm really loving how freeing it is.
Seems like you need more a journal than a planner. Ring planners are good on the go, just people don't realize that small rings are more convenient than big rings. I used the pocket filofax finsbury and loved it, it has very small rings. Pocket is very convenient to carry with me everywhere. I'm thinking about going to the personal size, but with very small rings too, like in the filofax saffiano. What I don't like in the rings is printing, so I decided just to use the grid paper and use it as a bujo. It's very freeing - not to be boxed in by preprinted paper. Also what I don't like about the personal size is that the pages are too narrow for me, so I might use the Franklin Covey Compact size instead, which has wider pages.
I’m glad you have had so much success with ring planners! I love the flexibility and portability of them for those very reasons. While it may look like I need more journaling, I need a lot of planner support to help me organize my 2 jobs and kids. Thanks for being here! 💕
I feel this a little too much. Been struggling all year too, tried so many systems (including digitals) and nothing works. But considering I am in a mental health clinic right now, maybe the planners weren’t to blame. It’s hard to make sense in a chaos and to find things that work.
Sending you so much good vibes your way! It can be really hard to problem solve when there are so many other factors to consider. Thank you for being here 💕
@torionpaper it really depends how you structure yourself but if you get overwhelmed with the huge daily pages on the cousin, the day free is undated so you don't feel the pressure as much
It’s so hard to find myself happy with a pre printed planner. I don’t have time with a toddler to be doing it but I literally just take one hour to set it up. I think seeing things makes people not happy. I went into a bujo and deleted insta and I have been daily journaling and planning for two years. I think this planner community over complicated everything.
I’m so glad you have something that works for you! I think the planner community can be really helpful and also really confusing sometimes but that’s kinda just how it goes 💗 thanks for being here!
I'm trying to not think of 2025 planners 😆 I get seasonal depression in Winter and the fog doesn't really lift until March so I structure my year a bit differently and I only get frustrated when I try to fold myself into Jan - Dec planning also I'm more of a notebook keeper than a planner. I DO plan just in notebooks because my concept of time is 'different' I'm more quarterly and I'll roll quarters toward a goal and it doesn't matter to me which year they fall in for certain things. I do have a short list of planners that worked best for me but I don't know if I'll even start in January.
I feel this! The winter months always feel so different for me so I completely get where you are coming from. I’m glad you’ve found something that seems to be working for you! Thanks for being here 💗
Ahhh don’t apologise for planner hopping, everyone goes through it from time to time. I might be selfish in hoping you come back to the cousin, but I would say just enjoy playing around and experimenting. You will find the right thing soon. ❤
I'm in a planner rut as I call it. I don't like any of my planners. I purchased a Hobonichi Weeks and started dabbling in it. I don't know what it is. Maybe this was truly just a planner phase for me. 😞
Ah I’m so sorry I know exactly how you feel and am sending you all the good planner vibes! Sometimes it’s helpful to step away for a couple days and come back with a fresh slate. I hope it all works out for you!
Totally agree with you! I wrote out my definite needs vs wants and made a list and that really helped cleared some things in my head. Wishing you all the best for your 2025 book(s)!
@@torionpaper yeah that’s the thing is the dating. If you did pick an undated option, you could buy the dating stickers and date like a month at a time??
Hello. What is your problem??? I can understand because I went through writer's block for 3 months til I just started copying my personal Bible faith scriptures.
i think it's time we all knowledge that hobonichi may have made some sort of witchcraft to make people feel unsettled without it, because from all the planner creators I follow the only one that seems to be in a happy place is in a cousin right now 😂😂😂 someone should investigate 😅
I’m going to be real honest here: I started watching your videos when I was trying to understand if I could use something similar to hobonichi (spoiler: I’m not going to, not a planner girlie) and… you have never seemed so calm, content and overall sure of yourself and your place as you were last year using the cousin. I’m not a big planner person, I know close to nothing about them, except what you creators say about them and your experience in them, but I feel like lots of people that feel content and safe in a planner have this… fomo, almost, I guess, seeing others change and hop around, and just… it’s okay to want to try new stuff, obviously, but sometimes I feel like we, as humans, forget to remember our strengths and safe spaces are important too, for fear of “being too comfortable” in a situation and get… looser? Less interesting? What I’m trying to say is: sometimes doing the brave thing is also recognising and doing the safe and “as used to” thing. I hope this makes sense and helps. In a few words, if you don’t want to read all this nonsense up there, if you feel happy and calm and comfortable and content in an hobonichi, go for it. No regrets. Let others do what they feel like they need to do, and do whatever you need to do to get back your balance. All the love and support ❤, love your videos and your honesty. Life is tough, but so are you!
This makes all the sense and thank you so much for taking the time to share your observations! I agree with you on so many things and think I have a much clearer picture moving forward 💗 I appreciate you being here (even if you aren’t a planner girlie lol) and really appreciate your feedback!
It definitely sounds like you miss the size of the cousin, not just the layout. It's the only A5 you've shown in this video, and it seems like the planners that aren't working right now are much smaller (B6, A6, personal). Maybe try out some A5 size pages and see if it helps. Just a thought. 🤔Hope things settle down for you soon!
@@hannahclark8313 after rewatching the video I 100% agree with you! I think I’m going to try cousin again and see where that takes me. Thank you for being here 💕
That’s what I’ve heard! Mine wasn’t too bad and was pretty cheap but yeah I’m not loving the feeling of it compared to other “cracked” or imperfect leathers
I don't think I have summer scariest but every summer I fall out of love with my planners. The reason I found is that when summer comes, I have so much more life outside and a lot of things planned that I don't have time to spend with my planners. And then I start getting anxious of not being able to fill my planner and it just snowballs until I'm left paralysed and not able to do anything. What I managed to do this year was buying am avec July-December and since I have done that, I am back on the planning train. This made me realise that I need a planner that works for me when I am having those times rather than having a planner for when I am less busy. Watching the Hobonichi preview has helped because I have decided to use a weeks mega. I think the weeks is not as demanding because there's only 1 week per page, but I also have the extra pages for when I am feeling the itch/need to write more.
Thanks so much for sharing! It’s awesome to be able to notice those patterns and plan accordingly. I’ll probably do something similar as next summer approaches. What color Mega do you think you’re getting this year??
Honey! It's a planner, not brain surgery! Please let yourself relax and enjoy the process again-IF and WHEN you want to! No pressure! You're too young for all this stress!
If you’re not opposed to undated planners, Sterling Ink and Planner Monkey Co both have great options in varying sizes. I have one of both since I couldn’t resist a sale (😂) and am enjoying the PMC a lot. PMC has a bunch of seconds quality (the ones I got were seconds and I legit can’t tell) for a great price right now in a lot of sizes. I’m a Sterling Ink stan so I’m always going to recommend them lol. The only planner I’m really considering for next year other than Sterling Ink is the Aura Estelle or Papertess because I miss the old school planner feel of having grouped months and weeklies. I hope you’re able to find a new planner home (for however long it serves you, then hop on around 🥰) soon ❤
I’ll have to check out the PMC! I feel like I have a love/hate with undated because it gives me freedom but like tooo much freedom sometimes 😂 ai think it’s just a me problem but I’ll definitely go check them out! Thanks for being here 🩷
@@torionpaper I agree it can definitely feel like too much freedom lol. This is my first time setting them up for a new week and month so we’ll see how long it lasts lol. PMC also have regular notebooks that are really good and also discounted on their site.
SO TRUE❤ I plan to keep being a journal girlie when I’m 50 too ✨
no one hates their journals and planners more than influencers. the amount of hopping, overbuying and setups just to never use the book again is insane
@@AllTheArtsy right :´)
I am going to be honest here for a moment, I really enjoyed watching your cousin videos.
That’s how I was last year so I definitely know the feeling 💕
It’s a planner and journal combined, my brain absolutely does not work if these two are in separate books so I keep all my functional planning information in my monthly calendars and weekly spreads, and all my journaling goes on my daily pages.
Just something to think about 💗
There are also other amazing shops that have the same basic format as the cousin as most are replicating that.
You’re artwork and pictures throughout are beautiful
Thank you so much! I appreciate you 💕
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been struggling with the planner scaries - you’re not alone, lots of folks in the community are Going Through It™️!!! I hope you find something that works for you soon and that the autumn is a more chill time for you ❤️
The Going Through It Club !!! Glad I’m not alone 😭 I hope you have been enjoying your book 💕💕
We have many seasons- forever changing, like our layouts, our needs, our inspiration. 😊

Edited to add: I agree with you about the Cousin.
@@kqxx Exactly. I finally came to terms with that this year. It really does have my heart. ♥
Yeah I think this is super helpful! I deleted Instagram last year and it was super beneficial for this very reason
Rings has been so great for me so I 100% understand the appeal and am so glad it’s working for you! Thanks for being here 💕
What didn’t work for you with the Hemlock and Oak?
@joemarreola5905 the paper is amazing. I still have their notebooks. I just wanted more portability and if I make a mistake I can just replace the page I'm working on in rings.
@@vernabailey3671 Ok thank you. I’m using it in 2025 and just received it.
Even if i end up hating it, I'll only be out $6🤷🏾
(I also figured out that this will let me use up all the undated vertical weekly planners i have by back-filling them in a color-coded fashion, to really nail down if I'll spending my time where i need to.)
Now I’m leaning towards the Common Place.
Yes I agree these are great times for a reset and I have totally felt this before! I appreciate you being here 💕 shout out to PHA members 😭
I discovered two things this year, I love B6, Standard TN, and Vertical Weeks size for calendars/ planners. A5 is great for me for memory keeping
Appreciate you being here!
fantastic video, watched and enjoyed till the end 😊😊
I appreciate you!! Hope you had a great weekend 💕
I’m definitely overwhelmed by all the new planners coming out. I might just end up just using a composition notebook lol
Honestly this is a good call! It’s overwhelming for sure and I’m not sure what the solution as a community is
Size matters! I was an A6 person for couple years then fail after fail 😮. When I tried a B6 slim it was perfection. Consider size vs types as your searching around. That changed up my planner /journaling life❤ Thanks for sharing your frustrations
Will definitely keep this in mind thank you 💕
It sucks that you are dealing with planner chaos.
Then when we started to think rings was going good and we finally found planner peace, they started switching back to tn or hobonichi 😭 the weeks + cousin combo is always #1 for me
The weeks and cousin is such a staple combo! As a viewer myself I know exactly how it feels to see all the creators start to change around 😭
3:58 the cat picture lol 😹, I have one similar of my cat and now I need to look a place for it haha ♥️✨
It’s a random cat I found on Pinterest and I just couldn’t resist 😭😭
What is TNB?
Thank you so much! Do you not like those options or is just one not working over the other??
I feel the same way Tori. I'm not sure what I'm doing for 2025. It's so stressful to not have a system that works. Hope you find something soon.
I’m so sorry you are feeling similar! It’s such a tricky feeling to navigate. Thank you for being here 💗
Make a list of things that have worked and what has worked. Write every system you used . It helps
Thank you for being here 💕
I love the Sterling ink common planners because the dailies are undated
@@torionpaper I hope you find your happy place too!
Maybe a Sterling Ink in a B6/A5. You can do the horizontal or vertical. It's the same paper in the current Hobonichi. It has more size options than Hobonichi. Personally, I need the dated pages so I can't do sterling ink but the notebooks are fabulous.
Definitely have these on my radar! I feel like secretly I need dated pages too even if I don’t follow them. Thanks for being here 💕
Have you tried creating your own? Kayse from anchored women has a wonderful system that is very customizable. Might want to look at it
I’ll go check it out! I was making my own inserts but that takes a lot of work so became a little tiring 😭
Good to know that I'm not the only one who does this!
You are definitely not alone!
Sometimes options aren’t a good thing. I try to limit planner hopping for financial reasons. 2025 I have a Passion Planner for scripture, and I’ll be getting a cousin or a B6 SI. I like dated dailies so if I do that I’ll get her dated stickers to make it easy.
Those sounds like great options for the year! I agree sometimes having so many options makes it more confusing
I think ring bound IS a lot of work because you have to pull the pages out. I'm in the A5 Sterling Ink dateless half year and I'm really loving how freeing it is.
If you have small rings you don't have to pull anything out
I agree with this statement. And if I didn’t see the slitting the holes hack, I probably wouldn’t be using rings today. 😂
I’m glad you are loving the dateless! Surprising pulling things in and out isn’t hard it’s all the printing and formatting and punching 😭
So refreshing to hear genuine planner struggles - very relatable. Where did you get your PaperTess B6 clear cover from? 😇
Thank you! The one shown is the Lauren Phelps design but I’ve also bought one from Nisha Fernando Designs that I reallly liked 💕
@@torionpaper Thanks so much! 🥰
It sounds like you’re having Hobonichi Cousin withdrawal. It really is a great system. Hope you find your planner peace soon! ❤
It is such a good system! Thanks so much for being here 💗
Seems like you need more a journal than a planner.
Thank you for being here 💕
I think the hobonichi day free may work for you, structure to a point but not overwhelming
I’ve never tried one so it’s definitely been on my mind as an option!
@torionpaper it really depends how you structure yourself but if you get overwhelmed with the huge daily pages on the cousin, the day free is undated so you don't feel the pressure as much
Not having the months and the weeks/days together is why I’m getting the Creffective planner this year
I’ll have to check them out! I heard they came out with a really great pocket notebook this year as well
Maybe grab an undated sterling ink? Those are in stock and would help you play with it before committing to a full 2025 layout!
I’ll definitely look into those! Thanks for being here 💕
It’s so hard to find myself happy with a pre printed planner.
Appreciate you always 💗💗 I think going back to the cousin is what it’s looking like it’s going to be 💕
I'm quite devoted to my B6 common planner, but since moving in with my bf maintaining the trackers and using it day to day have gotten quite difficult
I’m so sorry that’s happened for you! Tracking can definitely feel tedious for me in different phases of the year. I hope it all works out for you 💕
@@torionpaper new quarter starting in a few days means getting back on track feel way more do-able
I like your planner ❤ 😢 I want it
❤️❤️
The 2025 previews have been a bit overwhelming. I am an A5 girly, but been doing Basics to see what I want in the new year.
Totally agree with you! I wrote out my definite needs vs wants and made a list and that really helped cleared some things in my head. Wishing you all the best for your 2025 book(s)!
I was desperately hoping this year that hobonichi would make an a5 version of the original with no weekly pages
I guess the only thing close to that would be the Day free? But then you’re still having to date the pages :/ thanks for being here 💗
@@torionpaper yeah that’s the thing is the dating. If you did pick an undated option, you could buy the dating stickers and date like a month at a time??
True! Definitely something to consider
I love your cover
Thank you!
Hello. What is your problem??? I can understand because I went through writer's block for 3 months til I just started copying my personal Bible faith scriptures.
I honestly have no clue that’s how we got into this mess in the first place 😭
i think it's time we all knowledge that hobonichi may have made some sort of witchcraft to make people feel unsettled without it, because from all the planner creators I follow the only one that seems to be in a happy place is in a cousin right now 😂😂😂
someone should investigate 😅
Literally! Their marketing team needs a raise 😭
Thank you for being here 💕
@@torionpaper Wonderful! Hope it goes well. 🙂
The classic / cross Filofax has a bit of a bad reputation for peeling and cracking sadly
You have to do what suits you!
It’s nice but seems like anything smaller than A5 can’t be truly functional.
I think it definitely depends on life circumstances but I’ve notice for me the A5 seems to be the most flexible!
I hate all of my planners too 😅
Sending you allllll the good vibes that you feel better about your books soon!! ❤️🩹
You work for the Olympics?!
I do! It’s been a busy summer 😭
Honey! It's a planner, not brain surgery! Please let yourself relax and enjoy the process again-IF and WHEN you want to! No pressure! You're too young for all this stress!
Appreciate you! 💗💗
