Double the number of electrical outlets you are currently planning. It is so much cheaper to do it now than to add them later. I learned the hard way…

I agree! Better to have too many, than not enough outlets. You may want to rearrange your work spaces in the future and will want more outlets!!

29:25 Great work! You and your dad work great together.
One suggestion (among the choir of advice). Consider an attic vent fan to keep the air moving. Attic vent fans are inexpensive and while the walls are open easy peezy to place an outlet in the attic space. That will help with the effectiveness of the conditioning solution you install in the main space.
Looking forward to seeing your final reveal!

I recommend looking into a Splitter...for Heating & Cooling... 1 should work well enough for your quiltng shed. You don't need to share a window for A.C. They are very energy efficient. You probably will need a cement pad for the sitting large AC unit. & the Splitter has a small tube for draining the condensation to go outside. Talk with your current Heating & cooling service!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your progress, Miriam! It looks great, and you are making so much progress. I noticed that it doesn’t look like you put any outlets on the window wall. Before you get the walls up, I would suggest adding outlets under each window. If you put a chair by the window to have a quiet reading space, you might need a task light and an outlet would be handy.
When we redid our basement for my sewing space, I put one outlet on the short walls and two on the long walls. Your long walls are quite a bit longer than mine, so I would suggest planning out where you might be putting your shelving units, where you are going to be using your iron, where you will need task lights, where you might need a space heater to take the chill off in the winter and a fan in the summer to move the air, etc. Then add more outlets to accommodate those items. It is better to have more outlets than to run extension cords and power strips. One can never have too many outlets! I can’t wait to watch your progress.

    I love watching
your new studio come to life!🎉 I love your ship lap ideas. We recently remodeled our house. Its over 100 years old. We used a super great product on our walls and ceilings. It's a plywood bead board. It's not a flimsy paneling type of bead board...it's literally like 1/2"-5/8" thick. We were able to put it directly over the insulation. We used it vertically on the walls and then the opposite direction on the ceiling. I sanded all of it with an electric sander and primed it and then painted it. I wish I could show you pictures. It's beautiful. Mainly though, it is sturdy and functional. In Illinois the building code requires drywall behind paneling fir fire retardant purposes. So we did not do that bc the plywood breadboard was stiff enough to support light fixtures etc. We loved working with it. We got it at Home Depot. Our quilting skills were great for measuring and making templates.

I discovered you just a few weeks ago as knock off my sewist rust and get back to quilting. This is such a cool project to follow with you! (I also wondered why you sounded like me and you mentioned MN - ding ding!) 😊 I just wanted to comment how much I’m enjoying everything I’ve seen on your channel so far. ❤

Thumbs up all the way to you and your dad! I'm loving the process (that is where the magic happens, even in quilting, in my opinion). I'm a redhead and, yep, my face flushes red no matter how I try to control it from not. We are rare, beautiful creatures! Wishing you all the best!

When we did our laundry room we found a product that was a rubber type of vinyl it was in a plank like hardwoods an looked like hardwoods once laid. I am really pleased with it. If it gets wet it won’t get ruined. Congrats on your studio.

I am so excited about this series of videos. I have been trying to come up with something that would work for my needs and I think I’ve just found it by watching your channel. This is such a great alternative when your house doesn’t have the space for a sewing studio.
I am disabled and in a wheelchair (and I have to lay down very often), this would allow me to recline my electric wheelchair with plenty of room to do so. Of course, I would have to enlist the “help” of my family with the construction.
I have been walking in my calling as a worship pastor for most of my adult life but, that changed after a complete abdominal wall hernia formed. Since then, I have felt a loss of purpose. Guess what, Heavenly Father has given me a new purpose through your channel and others like yours. I am so thankful for this. I really enjoy the generosity associated with (and my newfound love of) quilting. He is truly always guiding His children.
One question, did you have a concrete pad poured under your building? If not, how did you do the foundation?
I want you to know that God uses you to bless many. May God bless you and your household tenfold. 😊

Love seeing you and your sweet dad work on this. Looks like Obie enjoys pupervising your dad.
You are both very talented with your construction! You're right. There are some similarities between woodworking and quilting....sometimes glue is use with the wood, too. 👍

This was so sweet to watch. My dad is also really handy and has worked in construction, although his experience has taken a toll on his body, so his ability to help with the physical labor part is pretty much gone. But watching this just made me so grateful that I still have him around, because I could totally imagine him and I tackling a project like this together if he didn’t live in another state. He and I have always bonded over our ability to make things. My mom is a techie who doesn’t get it, but he and I love working with our hands. I’m really excited to see the next video whenever you post one! You’re getting to do what I’ve always wanted to, so I’m living vicariously through you right now. Happy you’re able to build a space you’ve always wanted!

I hope you have space for sewing buddies to come over. I think some vinyl flooring would be great for a waterproof option. Ugh this is so awesome!!!
