Yep, you are correct on that my man. One thing that I do like about RUclips is I get to see these beautiful old country Manor, Estates/ homes being restored and rejuvenated for future generations.
In a generation's time, when the renovation is finished and the landscape matured, perhaps these videos detailing how it all came about will be compiled and edited into a beautiful documentary film.
Great group effort. So glad you don’t have to do this alone. It’s wonderful to see so many people enjoying the work together. Even little Patrick joins in.
There’s a segment in today’s video that made me wonder how much different the operation would have appeared when the garden was originally developed; tools, machinery (if present), dress of the workers and probably no women. Excited to see it planted!
What an earth moving operation. Thanks, Ash, for the discussion of your work and plans. I wasn't getting the big picture. Now I can imagine a verdant wonder to come. So much love in you work together. Thank you for sharing.
Oh my gosh! You were able to get right on it after I left. The weather looks gorgeous and you have more volunteers. I love it Terry, Ash, Jonathan, Tracy and Mark.
Another day of hard work and determination and it’s going to pay off in the long run. Love the fact that everyone just cracks on. The future formal garden is already taking shape ❤
Don’t apologise for the smaller equipment, it’s much kinder to the land. I’m definitely going to buy a landscaping rake and a little curved edging spade, brilliant. Great work gang, it’s looking amazing already💕💕💕
I see Patrick is in charge of the volunteers giving digging instructions by example 😂. Great work by all. You can really see how large the garden truly is now.🎉
LOL...Terry I knew it was you when only seeing the shoes and socks while shoveling and spading. I guess it is a tell tale sign I watch most of your videos. The project when completed will be beautiful.
My dad had a couple of those rakes when I was young to level large flower gardens on our property. They make the job so much easier. Your walled garden is going to be breathtaking and it’s already taking shape.
Thankyou for a lovely video. Relaxing and so exciting to see the shape of the garden coming together. Love to you all for your hard work. It really is paying off❤
Great seeing this huge project progress with the usual hard work of the Dream Team and some enthusiastic helpers. Of course, Lord Patrick demonstrating how it should be done makes all the difference!
Wow, you are all doing such an amazing job. Thanks for sharing the plans for the garden Ash! I can envision it in my mind and it’s going to be so beautiful and serene!🌹🇺🇸
Another great team effort. This project will be a transformation to the grounds. A simple tool makes all the difference. Love as always from County Durham xxx
It's so exciting to see the garden taking shape, all hands on deck with the work, Jonathan doing his fair share bless him 😊 it will be wonderful to see the plants in place, can't wait 😊🎉❤
Hi Everyone, what team work, so glad you have volunteers there helping out ! the formal garden is going to look beautiful! Already from the aerial shots, you can see something wonderful transforming! I think the smaller digging equipment 🚜is just perfect for this kind of work ! Take care lots of love 🥰💕
It was fascinating to watch the design being marked out. It is now fascinating and more to watch the design being dig out. Just wow as the work goes on.
Hello ladies!! Canuck in Scotland here, I am so jealous you get to cuddle with Patrick!! ❤️ sweet little pooch!! Great music again!! Lovely to see the garden take shape. Such hard work and looks hot!! Take good care.
😂I love your channel, seeing all the hard work and great progress. The chateau and grounds are beginning to reflect the time effort and money your family has lovingly put into it. It is so refreshing to see a family working to complete a project such as this restoration. Thanks for sharing , everything looks so beautiful. I can’t wait to see all the plantings, I know the garden will be beautiful.
I'd still urge you to add (home-made) steel edging 3 to 6 inchs deep around all your paths and bed edges, otherwise you'll always struggle to keep those beautiful crisp edges you've been digging out. But what a wonderful project, it's looking so good already. Stick with the 'small' machinery, it will help reduce soil compaction which would not help.
Watching all you folks digging and generally beavering away like mad reminds me of watching the Amish going at a barn raising in the US. Lovely to see people working so hard (and not actually having to take part - very relaxing.
When you lived in the UK could you ever imagine yourselves living the life you live now. More to the point could you believe how much you have transformed the chateau and grounds in a relatively short time. You are all amazing ❤
Great Great Great This is my area of Excitement as I love Gardens! This is where my imagination is running wild with colors and varieties I am so excited for the future.
There's something so satisfying about looking back at the work you've done in a garden, At every stage you've changed the walled garden from a wilderness and now you can start to imagine what it's going to look like, you're not going to be able to drag yourselves away from the top floor windows looking down on it all haha
Love the bare bones of the layout and so impressed with your vision. It will take a lifetime to reach full maturity but it is a legacy and one that your will enjoy every year henceforth.
I am so excited to see the formal garden going in. It’s going to be a pleasure to watch it be laid out, planted and growing. Thank you so much for doing it up right! ❤
Wonderful effort with this group. Digging is hard work but your soil looks quite lovely, rich dark and loose. The rewards will be tenfold. Patrick is doing his fair share ❣️
I like the comment from the person who commented on renting or getting a rototiller for the gardens. I use one every Spring on my garden and it saves on back breaking turning the soil. I really like what you are doing in the walled garden. I think it is going to be beautiful.
I’ve had the very same landscape rake and rounded edging tools for over 45 years. Have used them every time we created shrub and flower beds, laid sod, and of course every year’s garden space. Saves time, and the results look professional! Great work everyone!😅
Ash, I know the gardens are going to be beautiful, I can't imagine though the upkeep of taking care of such a large area with only the 3 of you that live at the chateau full-time. You'll really need a full-time gardener to handle the maintenance of the gardens I would imagine.
Great 👍 work👏👏♥️🤩love to see your fantastic job!! Ash..you are a great speaker 🔈 for your tribe!! Love you guys!! Hugs from your 80 year old Fan 🙏🤩🍾🥂🎊🎉
Garden coming on nicely. It’s great to have helpers too. A massive job, but loving the sheer determination and detail that goes into everything that you do. Perfectionists!💗🇬🇧
That is going to be such an incredible and beautiful space. You have put so much thought into it before you start and you will see the benefit of it each year as it matures , I definitely have garden envy xx
Hi Terry, Ash and Tracy! I absolutely love what you guys are doing! Thank you for sharing with the videos! I live in San Diego! Can’t wait to visit you guys! I feel like I know you guys already because I see you every day! Lots of love Jane & Allan
As someone mentioned it's definitely worth using membrane under the gravel. I would suggest using metal eding to give permanent sharp edges. You can buy purpose made edging which we used initially but to save money we made our own. I used mild steel which i order to my exact height dimension and cut rebarto hold itin place, spot welded and it worked.
Hi All, Another great vlog and another team is back to lend a helping hand. Mark & Scott
The hardest working chateau next to Escape to Rural France with Dan. What grit you all have. Love from Canada! ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you
100 percent
Yep, you are correct on that my man.
One thing that I do like about RUclips is I get to see these beautiful old country Manor, Estates/ homes being restored and rejuvenated for future generations.
Oh my goodness that ground looked so solid. That was hard work. My dad always said get the right tools and it will make life easier.
Dan is a amazing as well🇦🇺
In a generation's time, when the renovation is finished and the landscape matured, perhaps these videos detailing how it all came about will be compiled and edited into a beautiful documentary film.

There’s a segment in today’s video that made me wonder how much different the operation would have appeared when the garden was originally developed; tools, machinery (if present), dress of the workers and probably no women. Excited to see it planted!
Yes! Very different and a lot harder!! 😊
Be great to see a topographical map , so to see if the topsoil came from the surroundings. Theres so much awesome soil in there.
I am always so impressed with all your hard work, team effort and commitment to the chateau! ❤️
What an earth moving operation. Thanks, Ash, for the discussion of your work and plans. I wasn't getting the big picture. Now I can imagine a verdant wonder to come. So much love in you work together. Thank you for sharing.
Only you guys can make all that hard work into a beautiful video!!! Your walled garden will be absolutely amazing!!! Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA
Thank you 🙏 😊
Oh my gosh! You were able to get right on it after I left. The weather looks gorgeous and you have more volunteers. I love it Terry, Ash, Jonathan, Tracy and Mark.

That sun umbrella at a jaunty angle on the tractor made me smile. God you haven’t done Trojan work on the garden to get it this far.
Tip of the cap to your volunteers who have brought their expertise and backs to help your garden look amazing.
Back breaking work, will be beautiful in the end

The big roles of lucurne hay will hinder weeds and provide fertiliser and protection for the plants.
Love the bare bones of the layout and so impressed with your vision. It will take a lifetime to reach full maturity but it is a legacy and one that your will enjoy every year henceforth.
Those dormer windows, being restored and painted, really sets off the exterior look of the chateau.
I am so excited to see the formal garden going in. It’s going to be a pleasure to watch it be laid out, planted and growing. Thank you so much for doing it up right! ❤
