You keep going to my old home town Steve,. The pizza looked great. I spent a lot of my early days around that area, the old market was just across the road from where you had your lunch, my Aunty’s place was just up the road from where you were on Valley road. Goce’s bar near Maxims is. Famous gathering place for the locals, probably one of the last left that maintains the traditional meeting place atmosphere of the old days, been in the Gove family’s hands for some three or four generations. Thank you again Steve, you keep taking me back to my childhood places of many years ago.
Yes I remember a few floodings, it seemed like a regular occurrence, the valley would be like a river all the way down Msida road. To be honest I look at all the infrastructure now built along that road and am amazed it hasn’t been carried away. In regards to that part of Valley Road where you were. The Gove’ family used to own a tile making factory just down from where the old markets were, which later became Mc Donald’s and down the road the football club had their clubhouse ,were not far from there next to the tile factory was a smithy who also used to shoe horses, I can still smell the smell of burning bone as he set new shoes on a horse.

That is such good value for money. All that pizza would serve a family.. the slices are ginormous! 🍕🍕🍕 When we fly back to the UK we usually take pea and cheese pies to the airport... a lot cheaper than buying food at the airport. Hi Steve, I used to love walking to the Maxims at Poala from Haz Zabbar. I would start at the church in Haz Zabbar walk under the Hompesch gate then wind my way to the store. Back then it used to sell mainly passtizi, I would buy a couple and eat them back to Haz Zabbar, they where the best .
Doing good Steve, the last time I was there was back in the 90's 😁 it was a small narrow shop with huge ovens in the back full of trays of pastizzi . You had the option of getting the once around the outer edge (well done ) or the once near the middle of the tray still a little pale 🙂 I like well done. Cheers
