In the early 1970's, Porsche wanted to race in the Group 4 and Group 5 series but a change in the regulations made it a requirement for them to produce the vehicle for purchase to the public. This forced Porsche to pull the Turbo out of their winning race car and drop it into a 911. And the legend began!
The Porsche 930 Turbo was the fastest production car in the world when it was released for sale to the public in 1975. One of the first Turbo vehicle ever and it was absolutely wild. Porsches 911's found new life in the 930 Turbo and it became a staple for Porsche.
The 930 Turbo was created just so Porsche can participate in the racing series of their choice but the fans LOVED IT! The 930 Turbo was a HUGE success for Porsche and paved the way for future 911's.

I had one of these for 5 years. Still got my life, still got my license!
They are the benchmark of benchmarks.
Having owned a few...I don't unerstand this statement?
Iconic shape, iconic car the 930 turbo. Have lusted after one ever since I saw my first one in 1979. Great content, love your enthusiasm for the 930.
Hey Chad thank you for checking us out and I'm so glad you enjoyed the 930 episode. I was aiming at a GT3 but I cant stop thinking about the 930 :)
Excellent review. Bang on on every point. Lucky to own a 1980. They are docile off boost and then turn into a hell spawn split personality psycho. The pop on overrun. Another feature is the 9 heater controls that take up 20% of the handbook but nothing happens!. Well done. Epic review!
@@vnemax7044 Haha that's funny
I generally think the 930 is one of my favourite looking cars
Yea man its so simple yet so beautiful. Every angle is a good angle. Thank you so much for watching!
@@StudioMotors ofc No Problem, you did an amazing job on talking bout the vehicle, even you just describing makes the car sound so beautiful!
nice!!
Yola 🐐🐐🐐
Im lucky enough to have had my 930 since 1988. Its a 79 Euro model. You and the car become one and its a true experience to drive. Its a very Raw interactive ride. Nice job
I have driven alot of 930s when I was looking to buy.I drove 87 76 89 and 84 and then I drove a 78 Grandprix white 930 there was something different about this car that stood out comparing it to all the others. To me the 78/79 are hands down the 930s are the ones to own.
Love the hips on a 930!
The widow maker! Love love love the 930!
Its beautiful from every angle. And how ridiculous it drives 😂 The 930 really is a special car!
My boss has one of these cars. Looks just like the one in the video. I have driven it many times. It's true what they say. Its fast. The turbo kicks in and you better know what you're doing. So much fun!
This is such a DOPE recap and video, I can watch Dave talk cars all day long!
Dave, another good one!! and I'm not even a Porsche guy and you got me liking this!!!!!!
Great video, such passion
Hey thank you Mike! Appreciate you checking this one out and I'm so glad it sparked an interest in you for Porsche.
Gary from Garage 54 would always tell me "The M-coupe is kind of BMW's 911". Whale Tails and Clown Shoes, BABY!
Great video, great car! Hard to describe what a spooled turbo feels like. Like heaven!
Weapooon. 💪
Some good research provided in this vid 👍
I always loved the whale tail vs. The duck tail. Too many people putting ducktails on 911s even newer models.
great video! from Belgium
Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed it!
On my second 930 in over 12 years. Not for the weak of heart, so visceral and constantly reminds you that you're driving a beast. No automatic this and that, no creature comforts by today's standards. Drive it like you stole it, but only after fully getting to know it. You don't have to make your wife a widow...
Perfect summery of the 930 😁
Such a beautiful car!
QUBUSSSSSSSSSSSSSS 🦾
Love your energy and expressed passion for the vehicle. I dare say that these cars are not as dangerous or as deadly as their reputation suggests. General rule: Don't drive like an idiot and you'll be fine - notably, be sensitive with that brake pedal and unintended hand-of-God boost around corners. In a straight, the car is rock-solid. Those more daring and who know how to drive this car WELL (I'm not one of them!) can make this car just sing around a race track. And yes, to this day, the anticipation and eventual spooling up of that turbocharger is addictive and satisfying each and every time. 😁
Great video production. 👍
Frank thank you so much for the feedback, I appreciate it! I agree with you completely that it's just a gem in the right hands. You have to respect what it is and what is so pleasant about it. When I purchased my first Huracan, I searched hard for a 2WD because that was everything to me in that car. I also owned a 991 GT3 for a few years which I drove like you would want a GT3 to be driven. I hope I'm not coming off as "bragging" but just saying I've gone through some decent sports cars. But... when I jumped in the 930 for the first time, I approached it as if it's my first time in a manual sports car. I literally put aside everything I thought I knew and said "alright buddy, lets get familiar with each other". And even still, when you spend a few days in it in different environments, and start to think "yea, I got this", you really don't! It takes a lot of time and patience to master this car but as an enthusiast, it's a challenge that's so welcome. The car has grip but YOU have to find it, it will do none of the work for you. Just writing this makes me want to hit Mulholland in a 930 haha
Damn i gotta get my money up 😂
There is so much to love about this car.
I would love to just ride in one the slant nose is my favorite 😍
To drive one let alone own one is experience I will never know. When my spine gave out at while I was young my dreams of driving a 911 turbo died. It hurts just going to the store now.
If you are ever in Los Angeles, please get in touch and I’ll do everything I can to give you rides in different Porsches. I’m not sure if you’re well enough to be a passenger in one but I’ll be happy to try and accommodate you
@StudioMotors Wow man that is freekin awsome
This video makes you want to go buy one.
Best 911 ever - AGREED
Awesome video 📹 👏 👌 👍 Air cool life 😎
Thank Anthony! We have some fire reviews lined up and shot, excited to share the ACR 👀
Cool vid - love the passion and the car - sorry to tell you though that the 917/30 was not a Le Mans racer - it raced in CanAm, not at Le Mans at all.
Thank you for the correction Tony, completely missed that. And thank you so much for watching 👍
10/10 RAD
Widow Maker 😈🐋🚘
Great video! I have lusted after the 930 since I was a kid in high school in the 80’s. I just picked up my dream spec. I bought an 82’ Euro spec in Alpine white with red interior! Cheers! Euroasian Bob
Bob that sounds amazing! Huge congrats on the dream purchase mate
Dopes as yola 🔥
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Such a classic! Just like Ferrari, everyone is a Porsche fan
Air cool life 😎 👌
I would love to drive one of these... I'd probably die lmao!!!
Haha but maybe worth it 👀🤣
@@StudioMotors I agree 😎💪🏾😄
Machine gun to a 3 year old. So True. Love it! Great vdeo.
Art !
WHAT ???? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I grew up driving those canyons in the 70s and 80s in a 240z and my boss had a white 930. In 1991 my wife and I escaped our lifestyle in the music business and moved to San Luis Obispo, now at 62 there’s a new Porsche dealership open here and what do they have on the lot A 1998 white 930 ,l know it’s not going to be cheap but as soon as the transmission has been repaired I’m going on a test drive. Fingers crossed.
Man I would love to own a 930 living in SLO. There’s some BEAUTIFUL roads there not infested with LA like traffic. Good luck on the test drive, fingers crossed you get a good deal on it! 😎
No such thing as a 1998 930. Maybe you meant 1988. Mine's an '87...GP White.
@@badgermtn completely agree. I believe it’s either old age and or fat finger syndrome. Thank you for your correction my mistake. 1988 930 here at SLO Porsche and just today I saw a Black 930 driving down Orcutt road through the wineries, but what really caught my attention was the driver ( looked like a 18 year old California girl) by herself. How cool is that, good for her.
@@johnrpizzaguy way cool, probably daddy's 930. I can't see young kids being interested in old technology...but then times are changing. After all, a 930 doesn't have cruise control, LED navigation screen or GPS, and is a million miles away from self-driving.
Bit then I'm older than dirt.....born when rocks were still soft.
@@StudioMotors we do have some really great roads winding through the 280 wineries here in SLO, I grew up in Calabasas driving Las Virgenes , Kanan and Topanga Canyons and I miss them but I don’t miss the traffic after living here 32 years I get somewhat nervous driving around LA. Have a great day!

Thank you for checking us out!
The 930 Turbo is the best looking car ever made.
I agree 100percent
This is not the whale tale it is the tea tray. Whale tale came with 3.3 intercooled engine. I don’t think it is a small car. It is sitting low and wide as hell. Here in Europe you would have difficulties with the parking.
Actually, you have that the wrong way around.. there's no upward lip on this one, so it's whale tail.
The later ones are the tea tray.. clue's in the name.
"t's like giving a machine gun to a 3 year old." 😂
🤣 it really is!
Still just a Volkswagen Beetle on a diet. LOL
I remember when these came out in the 70s and 80s they were only got the Super Rich on par with a Lambo Countach
Yesss, the one and only….🧐👍❤️….!
Great video buddy, really nice USA version 930/3.0, but I hate to tell you that is not a 1975, its either a 1976 or 1977 (there is one major difference between the 1976 and 1977, as well of difference with ROW of those two years, but can't see it in the video), can send you picks of my 1975 #164 so you can distinguish the attributes that make 1975 turbos unique, making them the true "widow makers", cheers !
Evelio! Thank you so much for the awesome feedback. I realize I was not clear in the introduction of the 930 video. The car we shot is definitely not a 1975, it is a 1977 Turbo, you nailed it. What I was trying to communicate is that the first Turbo came in 1975 from Porsche, but this one we are shooting is a 1977 example.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks to your comment I learned something today! Appreciate you Evelio!
""Even My dog is Named Porsche Turbo !!!!
I have a Kokeln turbo on a later 3.3. Boost is pretty progressive and easily managed. Not that scary.
One day...
W video
What is there now? A c8 with a slushbox? Really an automatic with rear engine technology. Give me a time capsule with more swag than anything available today.
Yesss! I’m right there with you. All the new stuff is cool and they go super fast but I want something RAW. Give us something new that’s lightweight, manual, as mechanical as possible with as little computers as possible.
lol ours was classic red with a black whale tail
i have one of these for sale
Ayye
DOPE AS YOLA SENT ME
🤘🤘
is your dog a boxer?
Boston Terrier!
Why only one wing mirror ?
Many of the cars were shipped with only the driver's side mirror. My 76 only has drivers side mirror.
The Le Mans 917 was na flat 12 not turbocharged
Yes, the 917 was a flat 12, the CAN AM version of the 917, the 917/30, was a turbocharged 12.
Volkswagen Beetle front end
Why call it a 930 Turbo? The 930 was the turbo.
Those in the know , KNOW !!!!!😊😊😊
Mine got STOLEN in Miami! Hope it made the thief a WIDOW MAKER!🤬
It was certainly a very fast car in its day.. but there were faster!
❤😂😢😮😅😊😊😊😊😊 bro you got two nice cars, 930 turbo Carrera and the Mustang but the yellow Ferrari and the white viper suck. Porsche is much better much faster and much looking more popular than the other two.
Dude, STOP spreading that mispronounciation of the Porsche-name!
I am not a expert of porsche butt this is the most beautiful car iconic ever love herr a beauty 😍😘💖🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
NO way would I ever drive or be a passenger in a single turbo Porsche. HELL NO. If you wanna die a glorious death, then this car is for YOU.
I’m ok with driving them, but being a passenger is a different story haha
