Go get yourself a TCU tune addition to your ECU Tune. You’ll notice in most instances an ECU tuned car is barely faster than an OEM car and that is because the TCU is limiting the power actually driven to the wheels
The TCU tune increases line pressure to make sure you get all of your torque and power through the wheels to the ground and it also slips the clutches less reducing wear and increasing the speed and smoothness of the shifts. Launch Control can also be adjusted per customers requests. TCU is more beneficial than just a ECU Tune. Both are the ultimate weapon paired together.
A TCU Tune car is faster alone than just a ECU tune car.

Cool, would love to see an install video for the piggyback box and app. Also dyno runs comparing no piggyback to Race Chip stock mode (to see if they’re are really equal) and then a Race Chip Sport run to see whp gains.

I thought about making an install video, but I actually have a pretty good one on their website already.
I guess I was just wondered why people talk so much crap about these on the form, I think it's just cuz not a lot of people use them but they are very popular on other platforms.

Great video. I appreciate your approach in your videos. How you have not gone viral, I am not sure. On the video. I have an 2016 E63S. I did tons of research like you did on the forums. Have seen your posts as well (Very Helpful). I too was very nervous about the shift. One thing I have seen is people that got the mail order and loaded the tunes themselves seem to have the issue more that folks that went to an actual Eurocharged place to have it loaded. I live near Minneapolis which happens to have a Eurocharged facility. I bit the bullet and had the stage 1 tune done. I guess I am one of the lucky ones and didn’t have the violent jerk in S+. I know what your talking about though and have seen the videos. It’s strange that its hit and miss. I did go ahead and get their TCU tune and frankly to my butt dyno that made a BIG difference. Smoother shifts, faster, and holds much better. HOWEVER, yes its expensive. I knew what I was getting into though. I also had a trans service done at the same time with fresh everything. But not everyone wants to spend $3600 on ECU and TCU tune. I mainly did it because my local Eurocharged has a really good reputation locally. The owner races at our local events etc, so I figured part of the cost is building a relationship. I can call them any time and ask questions. I saw the owner yesterday at an event and he was coaching me on roll racing as he had owned an E63 W212 for a while. Their shop manager also has an 2016 E63. But you presenting this alternative is perfect as another option or alternative. Everyone should have options, and frankly with these cars there are not a whole lot, and the expense really goes up with you look at Renntech etc. I also have a BMW and very familiar with MHD and JB4 etc. I know quite a few people using the piggy back and have had zero issues. If I was in the market again, I would hesitate to check this out. And you are 100% right, not everyone may care about 1/10 or 2/10 etc. I personally end up driving my E63 a lot in “C” comfort as I see lots of traffic and low MPH roads. These cars are not cheap. You can’t expect to maintain it and run it cheap either, if you do buy a Honda. Again great past videos. Please do more E63 content. I used your video and installed the brighter interior lighting that gives more colors. Your video was dead on and saved me time. I swapped out those connectors for the Diodes and that was genius. You have a fan here.

Based on what I've read, your a 💯% correct on the local vs mail order tune. I've found about 28 others reporting the harsh shift; Everyone was mail order (not just EC, but other tuners as well).
So far if your get the tune in person... All good.
For me, price wasn't an issue, as long as it was worth it. If it cost more, I expect more. However, time is a huge factor, unfortunately, my real job keeps me busy 6 days a week. It's simply hard to take a whole day off to drive somewhere for a tune.
As for views and followers... It's a small niche I guess... Oh well

My guess is the CPC module was limiting boost gears 1-3 on the eurocharge tune. I’ve been spending too much time researching this for my W213 MB and I agree with you - I want a SAFE increase in power not the highest numbers. The flash tunes are deceiving because you don’t know if the advertised numbers are ECU tune only or with CPC flash

Love your videos! I still need to do my headlight mod based off your video lol. Not sure why you had shifting issues after getting tuned, that is very weird. Still lots of life and power left in yours, but I guess you enjoy playing it safe and I respect that. Mr Exotic car, for future when referencing acceleration “times’, that is how “quick” a vehicle is, not how fast it is. The word “fast” is a reference to actual speed as in mph. You can use quick and fast for 1/4 mi info because you have times and speed. Oh and prior to 2015 the mags did not do 1 foot roll outs. Next, the problem with mail order and even local dyno is that those tunes are done for specific weather conditions that exist either at the dyno shoo or the mail tune they might as you about you average conditions or not and also they need elevation. However I have found a few places that have a tuner that actually self adjust for fuel octane, current “at that moment “ weather and elevation. Those are the best ones to have but those are rare tunes. Also, if you folks with these vehicles don’t have the extra 7-10k in the bank for repairs and such you should not buy a German performance luxury car. Also aftermarket tunes are against the law and there is no such thing as tune that is undetectable if reversed. Once the tune is uploaded, it PERMANENTLY alters some sensors and a few other things that can’t be reversed, so be aware, that’s what dealer computers can pick up. And unfortunately most dealers these days automatically assume performance vehicles have been tuned at some point, which is not a good approach to take, but it is what it is, 90% of people can’t handle a vehicle with over 400 hp safely with things turned off so the best advice I can give is leave it stock, especially if you leased or financed it because those leased or financed vehicles are owned by the companies you pay on it. You don’t own your vehicle. E en after it’s paid off you don’t own it, since we must pay ins and registration it’s technically owned by the state at that point. Just like nobody, and I mean nobody owns private property if is in the continental u s . No one. The gov owns the land therefore they own the property and can come and take it at any time, for any reason, no questions. We can thank SCOTUS for making a law that puts all land in gov hands, no matter what we may think. Sadly. And besides, soon we will wake up and be in total communist, marxist world anyway. We need to boycott all companies pushing this revised communist cyna social credit system, in the us it’s called e s g and it hides under wokenss too.

Great video. If it matters I'll give you my experience of 2014 e63amgs 60k miles. Stock my best times were 11.4 at 125 with brake torque in cold weather with incredible da -1700 or so. I had the car stock for about 50k miles and my car always had a rough 2-3 shift. I autocross.the car over 100times legit over the past 4years and a few track sprints with the same stock tune with the same shift. Than I decided to get eurocharged stage2 tune (no downpipes) and got 10.9 at 129mph! With extremely great DA 30f or so. I also ran a best 8.8 60-130 stock and 7.98 eurocharged stage2 in once again great weather and great DA. NOW for the fun fact my same same with stage 2 tune in 90degree weather ran 8.7 8.9 with bad da 2000 or so. The point I'm trying to make if don't worry about the rough shift it was the original software that came with the car and Mercedes sent an update which made everything smoother. And as for 1/4 times and 60-130 times they are dependent on weather and DA especially in these cars that tend to cut timing heat souckd.

I race mine at a small oval Nascar track here in Virginia every Wednesday that it doesn't rain. I struggled finding a matching set of DOT legal sticky tires. I went with one size bigger fronts & rears to keep the same size percentage off set for the transmission. I have 265/35/19 f & 295/30/19 r on the stock rims. The only matching set I could find at the time besides Hoosier race tires were Goodyear Supercar 3. 220 treadwear. Continental just came out with some ExtremeContact Force with 200 treadwear. The Continentals are also cheaper than the GY Supercar 3s. 🤷 But I actually pretty satisfied with the Goodyears though. The tread doesn't last that long but they have a lot of grip.

Are you worried about bending a connecting rod? I've read our connecting rods are not that strong & adding boost you stand a good chance on bending one. This is why I haven't done any tune to mine. I read horror stories online where people got the "stage 1" & not "stage 2" tunes to be safe from the big guy places & still bent rods.

    • @ExoticCarDIY
      @ExoticCarDIY  2 года назад +2

It's all kind of about a calculated risk. Me and you sound like we are on very similar pages.
In fact, initially when I called Euro charged to get a tune, I specifically asked for a moderate, not aggressive too. They basically said they don't do that, it was stage 2 or nothing.
Previous, I had a CTS-V, people like to boost the crap out of those, and if you blew a motor, oh well you can find a used long block for like 2500 bucks. You blow an m157, they are 60k new, 30k used from the dealer. And you might get lucky on eBay with a high mileage one around 15K.
So yes, while they can make a lot of power, you're accepting a level of risk. I don't think the race chip makes as much power as a typical big name stage 2, and you can adjust it to run when you think it's safe. I've been on the forums about these for years, and I've actually really not seen any bent Rod issues. Usual failure is a cylinder 5 scoring and compression loss.
Having said all that, on my next E63 I probably will not tune the ECU and only get a TCU tune. Many have reported TCU only cars running sub 3 seconds 0 to 60s and half second reduction in quarter mile.
Mini argue that is actually safer for the transmission with the increased line pressure holding the clutches better, and worst case scenario coming if you completely blow your transmission somehow, they're only 8 Grand new I believe, much cheaper used.
      Thoughts?

They specifically advertise that on the race chip, I never was able to pay enough attention to see if it actually worked. The 550 seems to have a huge leg up on the 63 when it comes to MPGs. They were a few tanks of gas where I just drove highway roads at 60, never really got above 22 which was a disappointing surprise (bone stock) I always hear these people with the 550s getting high 20s. Honestly think the 550 is probably one of the best values out there

    A few things here…
    1. All the tuners KNOW that E63 S AMGs (W212/W213 specifically for the purposes of this post) produce far more horsepower on the dyno than the manufacture claim. I have yet to see an E63 S make anything less than a substantial HP gain when measured on a dyno. This is how they can make their big HP claims. For example, for my W213, Renntech claims *UP TO 773 HP (93 octane). They are making that claim based on their W213 project car pulling 685 HP at the crank (as adjusted). Yes, the 603 HP number on the W213 is pure BS. I have never seen one under 650 HP at the crank as adjusted for on an AWD dyno using a 14% drivetrain loss. So in reality their tune is making 88 HP over stock and probably 40-50 HP at the wheels.
    2. While I agree tuning to the individual car is optimal, most people just want a drop in tune. But, you’re a 100% correct, most serious tuners LOL@drop in tunes. Personally, I think the tunes are scary because of the reasons you mentioned and also because you can’t anticipate the impact on your car. There is always a weak link. The engine and drivetrain might be fine, but the engine mounts aren’t (per your comment in the video on the W212).
    3. Detonation is a real problem and I think is the number 1 reason cars pull timing after a tune. You hear people say, my car is slower after the tune, yup, because the ECU is saving the car from someone’s shit over-aggressive tune. Sort of like that huge hiccup you experienced. Running a big tune on a shit hot California day (where I am) is a huge no no in my W213. When I had a W212 E63, you had to watch IC heat soak as well with the stock air/air ICs.
Weistec is good but I hear their tunes are too aggressive and Renntech is the best but you’re going to pay big money for it.
Drop in tunes are suspect for the reasons you mentioned and potentially harmful as you say.

the 14's have tranny issues when tuned. not sure if you came across it in your searching quite a few people have reported it across fb i seen. my tuner had a 14 ran into the shifting issues after a while hearing others report the same he switched to a 15 or 16 cant remember. no shift issues once he tuned it.

I've heard this as well. So it tells me that this is a known issue which bugs me, since these companies are telling people that they can tune their cars knowing that they're going to have a shifting issue.
So like I said one of the things that they had me try, I actually had to update both the ECU and TCU software to the latest OEM update that eurocharge actually specified. Unfortunately that did not fix the issue.

@@ExoticCarDIY I never actually heard is it software or hardware wise. As far as I know the 15s have the same transmission as the 14. Maybe something with the clutches? Would think if it was software at this point in time somebody would have figured it out

    • @ExoticCarDIY
      @ExoticCarDIY  2 года назад

@@ConstellationGroup I do know the software is different from the 14 to the 16. Euro charges test car is a 2016.
Anyway, because the issue happens during the shift, most people assume that is the transmission. But the dozens of other people with this issue including myself I'll believe it is the engine cutting out during the shift. Whether it's cutting torque, closing the throttle, or cutting the fuel something with the engine is going on during that shift only in s+

I've read a lot about the limits of the m157 on MB world, it does seem like it can handle a lot of power. I definitely don't want to screw one up though, brand new from Mercedes they're almost 60k

Low end torque is what will bend rods. Your tuner can adjust the amount of torque the car gets. Eurocharged with 5Soko TCU tune on stock Turbos, Stock Transmission, Stock Fuel System, Stock Bridge Pipes, and Street Tires is doing the 1/4 mile in 10.48 at 137mph
