    The standelayana are like snake plants, they take a long time to root in water. But once they do root, the roots grow at a pretty fast rate. I think frequent water changes make a huge difference, too. Thank you for sharing your repots!! 🥰

    Osmocote plus is OK been using it for about 4-5 years.
    A bit mild and used solely wont really have a noticeably effect. It won't burn plants, but you definitely don't get the same boost as a water soluble fertilizer.
    Were it did shine was in my planted aquariums. In my aquariums it made a world of difference.

  • @dreamsofhoya
    @dreamsofhoya Год назад

    I think I was hearing on the Plant Daddy podcast that slow release fertilizer like the Osmocote needs to be kept evenly moist to function properly...🤷‍♀ I wish I remembered what episode, but it was probably a fertilizer theme. In case you notice any slow down in growth or anything, it could be a contributing factor.
    My micans cuttings take FOREVER to root, but the mama plant responds really well to pruning! It began the size of yours in 2020, and now it's in a 9" pot and very full - even though I've taken countless cuttings. Cebu blue is the same way. Such rewarding plants to grow!
    Thanks for another video, Fern 🧡 Best wishes to you and Olive!

    Repotting is relaxing for me-even watching is relaxing 😉. What do you do if a plant needs to be repotted because it has roots coming out the bottom of the pot but you don't want to upsize the pot?

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  Год назад +5

      In that case, I would break apart the root ball so that I could reshape it to fit in the pot. You could also root prune, but I haven't been so bold as to try it myself 😅

    Regarding osmocote I like it an use it as well as a heavily diluted organic liquid fertilizer (about 1 tsp per gallon of water so not a whole lot) each time I water (Avoid miracle gro if possible). What I see from a lot of Plant RUclipsrs is how to treat pests, however, I don't see many that emphasize how important it is to fertilize! When you feed your plants and keep them healthy, you rarely have to treat for pests and diseases. Pests love to feed on weak plants. I have a lot of plants and I rarely have pest issues just from regular feeding. It's also a lot more cost effective to keep them fertilized vs. treating for pests. 🌱🌿

    Howdy. WF, you're so good with plants. Ten years from now you would be like an expert with plants. I care for a lot of plants. At first it's so exciting and regarding and then it almost becomes a chore and sometimes I want to chill out from them but it never last that long because they need me and I took the responsiblilty to care for them. Oh. But the pleasure of seeing how beautiful they are. It's a part of love. One has to embrace life and yet be detached from it's processes and it's trials and tribulations. And plants can teach us also. 💕 Love your show.

    Make sure you submerge the osmocote into the soil a bit! otherwise it won't act as a slow release.. if you put it on the top it actually won't do much unless the top is always damp. Hope that made sense!! 🥰

    I have osmocote to fertilize with, but I have very little baby plants right now and worry about overdosing. I also use liquidirt to water and I have a myco additive I add to the root (but that's just to help root development and nutrient/water uptake, not actually a fertlizer).
    I love repotting videos :) They encourage me to do my plant chores. But I also loved the clips of each plant being worked on as you made your to-do list, that was super cute editing. And in general, I love your to-do lists in your chore videos. As a list-maker myself, it's very satisfying :)

    I mix my Ozma coat into my soil mix, whatever that ratio is. I think it is half a cap to 1 gallon. Then whatever Ozma coat gets put in my plant when I repot it is the ratio. I have not had any fertilizer burn or anything and I have been doing this for about six months

    I just put my micans and adonsonii on poles and you’re making me want to take them down.

    I wonder- why don’t you just add all fertiliser into potting mix? I always do that, otherwise I just forget 😂
    Recently, I invested in a metal mesh and made some proper moss poles. Like meter long and for my Adansonii I went bold- 15 squares 😮. It took tonn of moss, but it looks so so good! And the plant literally loves it- it’s growing twice lush and makes me so happy! I you don’t need to worry about watering- just pop up a water bottle and done. Metal mesh makes it really stable in the pot. Why I didn’t do it sooner? (Guess because I already bought a plastic mesh, ha)

    Oh my! I have been trying to figure out what my tri lobe philodendron is... the store said it was a smithii but it looks nothing like it.. what it does look like is a pedatum but im not 100% so this leads me to wonder how to take care of it.. so far (i have had it for a month) its grown 2 new leaves. I LOVE my osmocote but I had originally bought it for my orchids

    Oh I use a lot more osmocote than that! We drop in way more all year round here in South East Asia, because we got sun all year long and never stop fertilizing. Love that stuff. I just put some extra CalMag supplements in my water to boost nutrient intake but the osmocote does the bulk of the heavy work 😝👍🏻

    How do you keep track of when you Osmocote? I fertilize lightly every time I water because I can never keep track of when I last fertilized, but I sure see the appeal!

    I can only find ozmocote that has plastic in it near me /: I do love using earthworm castings when I don’t want to fill my fertilizer and my plants seem to enjoy it

    Hello Fern, thank you so much for your video. Can I ask a question? I just can't get my monstera adonsonai to grow, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm always too scared about when to water it, does it like a lot of water, does it like being on the dryer side? Does it like bright light or does it prefer to be in the filtered light?? So many questions. Thanks so much Fern

    Your plants are so beautiful, I can see the approach to buy less and focus on current babies is working. Are you planning to extend your no buy to next year?

    Your Peru is so nice and dark green. How much light does it get? Fun video! Thanks! I use Osmocote all the time inside and out. I never measure, so I can’t help with that. But I do still use complete liquid fertilizer too, if I’m in the mood! Plants love it!

      Thank you! It’s near a south facing window, but pulled back so it only gets some dappled sunlight and mostly indirect light.
