Here with Western because I just turned 21. I have years of experience with 34 foot trailers , but none were CDL loads. I wouldn’t call it “run on opti idle” it’s not running anything. It’s shutting the truck off and the truck shuts itself off to conserve fuel and monitors the battery level and the temp that the carrier sets, either one of those it triggers the truck to turn on for a very short time. It’s unacceptable I left Crete after 3 weeks with that crap and the CPAP rules they had.
That's not the problem no one to teach the average driver how to survive in the winter with the truck off till in the morning plus in the summer spring roll the window down fall put more clothes on cut truck off in the morning roll windows down until you start moving that's how you win plus the drivers that's being hired aren't built for trucking
In the winter it’s cold and the summer it’s hot. The sweet spot is in the 47 to 65 degree range. Even at 70 the truck can get a bit warm to be comfortable

I'm not a truck driver but I do know trucking isn't the only business with these kinds of employers.
It would be interesting to investigate their maintenance facilities. If they are this tight, I'd bet their cutting OSHA and EPA regulations. Those fines can put companies out of business.
I worked for them years ago i kept my truck clean on my dime wheels polished and i was always clean cut shaved and professional i had a 100% on time record i was a 5 star driver they treated me like garbage. Im surprised those assholes are still in business.
Every driver that works for them deserves what ever these companies give you. Being complacent doesn’t always mean better- I’d rather struggle as an owner op than to be treated like a GAWDDAMN dog.
I love this gig. I have a wife but even though my new guy pay isn’t the most spectacular in the industry it’s still much better than what I was making which helps with that long separation. And I’ve been “home” ONCE” in almost 4 months. But yeah, even getting up and at em around 1 am or even 2 or 3 at the latest it sucks when a scheduled appointment time is later in the day, but I’ll either call Dispatch to see if I can drop or pick up early or use my best southern yankee gentleman charm and usually early isn’t all that big a deal but depends WHAT your dropping or picking too. Sometimes the product has a specific order of movement due to warehouse physics….
When i was an owner operator, used Amsoil, truck always started, I didnt sleep well with my truck running. Had an arctic sleeping bag, 32° was comfortable. Single digit temps, let it run.
Have a Merry Christmas 🎄 Good Guy Glenn ‼️
My Vietnam Vet boss when I worked in construction: "the heat is in the work"
My Korean War Vet boss when I worked in fabrication for modular processing equipment: "the heat is in the work"
My Desert Storm Vet boss when I did airline cargo handling: "the heat is in the work"
My 25 year old female boss when I worked in warehouses running tow motors and cranes: "the heat is in the work"
So, yeah, there ya go little buddies! The heat is in the work 🤷🏻♂️
Hahaha. That is true in physical labor. But not curled up in a bunk.
😅😅😅😅😅
I wouldn’t call it “run on opti idle” it’s not running anything. It’s shutting the truck off and the truck shuts itself off to conserve fuel and monitors the battery level and the temp that the carrier sets, either one of those it triggers the truck to turn on for a very short time.
It’s unacceptable I left Crete after 3 weeks with that crap and the CPAP rules they had.
Basically any Lease purchase is that way soon as you get close having the truck paid off what happens "hey come lease the newer truck" every time
Good luck working at Western Exp
Always unload and reload every morning
Sounds to me like some drivers need to get electric heaters.
“I don’t know why the batteries are dead🤷♂️”
That's not the problem no one to teach the average driver how to survive in the winter with the truck off till in the morning plus in the summer spring roll the window down fall put more clothes on cut truck off in the morning roll windows down until you start moving that's how you win plus the drivers that's being hired aren't built for trucking
Western Express trucks are white. My company's trucks are black or dark blue. Try sleeping in that without the a/C on
Is it worse in the winter when it’s cold or in the summer when it’s hot?
In the winter it’s cold and the summer it’s hot. The sweet spot is in the 47 to 65 degree range. Even at 70 the truck can get a bit warm to be comfortable
Thats rediculous, thankfully I was warned about them and I listened!!!
Bull theu can spec the trucks to shut off when they are made at the factory . If you want to work.for cheap rate carriers then you get what you get.or like me just buy your own truck and do what you want too.
Idling seriously adds up, especially with 1000s of trucks. That said, you're right, drivers are replaceable.
I guess they gonna have to get a bunch of blankets then 😅
IF I can't Idle the truck for heat in the brutal winter. Then don't do 48 States OTR long haul! Do the Regional routes California to Arizona, California to Nevada, Utah to Arizona, drop and hook only no live load and unload, terminal to terminal only with 3 star hotel accomodations.
What of you set your cruise control but I did that with a peterbuilt I had it would shutoff but if I set cruise control it stayed on all night
Optimal idle sucks. I can’t stand everything about it.
Why can't Welfare I mean Western Express invest in APUs on their trucks I mean especially in winter they are worth the money not the epu but diesel fired apps are worth it
What about engine oil fuel dilution?
They have bunk heaters don't they?
Yes . Everyone does !
@@AMTruckin 🤣 i was hoping so!
The trucks have Esbar Bunk Heaters. OptiIdle is for AC
Put a Western Express corporate 'metro suit' office-type in a heatless cab one nite outside Cheyenne in January---& things would change like NOW !
Sounds like a good way to go out of business. If the boss is home in a warm bed, the driver's should have one too
I have a Cascadia at Western and I have no heat
You didn’t suggest a portable heater in the truck ?
I’ve tried several portable heaters and none of them work
What do you suggest we use as a portable heater?
Thanks for your informative video!
Bunk heater. If they don't have them get a room and sue them for the bill.
My truck doesn't idle unless it's above 90 or below 20. But opti idle works fine. Bunk heater works great. I don't see the problem. Truck 3yrs old. Never had battery issue. Not sure what your problem is. I have a 22 cascadia.
Hmmmm, Coleman Propane Catalytic Heater to supplement(we did in Deuce & 1/2s in the Military)....LOL
All they have to do is make those shippers cancel all contracts and make one National Load Board to give owner operators direct freight and Watch how these MAGA CARRIERS BEG For You To Drive Their Trucks!!!!
Wow! I didn't know they could do that 😲 that's scary!
What about a bunk heater most Freight liners have them
