Has anyone noticed, this is just a " voice and piano" number? No fancy fireworks, dancers, dramatic guitars, nothing....just Elton, his voice, his piano and a tremendous song. And yet, he manages to entice us. That takes a huge amount of talent to accomplish, folks. What a star!
He wrote some beautiful songs. The volume of work in the way of genius musical composition from one man in a single career will probably never be surpassed. Combined with Bernie's masterful lyrics, we were truly treated with magic.
What a performance. Halcyon days. Just compare this for a moment with the crap we have today. Reality TV. Good Lord, we watch TV to get away from reality do we not?.
the old elton was a very unhappy person. he didn’t know who he was and he was an addict, as well as bulimic among other things. id say hes in a much better spot than he was back then.
Morecambe and Wise had such original characters. Especially about how they insulted every guest star, usually pretending they never heard of him or her.
Gods were in exceptionally jovial, serendipitous, generous and spirited mood when Elton John and Bernie Taupin were born; Gods proclaimed in unison, 'We give them our generous gifts so they may go forth and touch the tenderest part of peoples' hearts so lovely emotions deep inside ascend from deepest part of peoples' soul to transform their lives!' Simply brilliant, were those two young men who continue to touch our hearts even now. Thank you Sir Elton John for your sumptuous sense of humor with your beautiful voice and magical musical prowess transferring (why not, Sir) Bernie Taupin's simply honest and brilliant lyrics to music that has remained timeless forty five years on.
It's really hilarious, the innocence and child like goodness shines through. Eric and Ernie - so funny, they were so hard working, their dedication is so rewarding to enjoy for us today. Eric Morecambe, I love you!

Thank you so much for belaboring the obvious and engaging in wooden philosophy.
Wow I think what talant it's got strength fabulous
@@deanronson6331 Any time! It´s always a pleasure to annoy a pretentious snob on RUclips.
Elton was utterly adorable and fantastically voiced here.
Centrepoint . How adorable !
Holy cow can Elton play piano. That was an absolutely stunning performance.
theres a reason some people are world famous, talent like that. incredible performance
His singing ability is SOOOO beautiful------- every bit as masterful and gifted as his piano playing------- WHAT A GIFTED MAN HE IS.
True, but whose lyrics?
I was 14 when this was first shown, and Eric makes me laugh just as much as he did then. When he tried to sit on the top of the piano 😅
I was 17 last xmas in UK before emigrating those were the best days of my life fond memories. Great trip down memory lane.
Such a good song, and what a great performance of it.
It doesn't matter how many times I watch it, never get enough of M & W. Enjoy a young EJ, too
He wrote some beautiful songs. The volume of work in the way of genius musical composition from one man in a single career will probably never be surpassed. Combined with Bernie's masterful lyrics, we were truly treated with magic.
He wrote the music, Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Credit where credit is due.
Ooops sorry didn't see your last sentence about Bernie. My bad.
Irving Berlin wrote 1500 songs with scores being number one hits. I don't think Elton John has beaten that, has he?
Try listening to the songs that Prince wrote for other artists.
Elton showing a great gift for comedy here - in addition to his musical talents, of course.
Whos elton?
What a performance. Halcyon days. Just compare this for a moment with the crap we have today. Reality TV. Good Lord, we watch TV to get away from reality do we not?.
They were the greatest TV entertainment in the seventies, such a shame reality tv came along.
That's just it....there is nothing real about "reality" TV. It's all manufactured rubbish. Utter crap and with no entertainment value whatsoever.
Only his voice and his piano... What a genius..
I miss this humble and down to earth Elton.
I agree, I miss the old Elton - what a talent this man has!
@@garylawless3608 The old Elton was suffering from a variety of crippling addictions.

@@garylawless3608 And still has, only now he is happier, and still humble.
There's always someone who has to be negative
Classic.........never tire of listening to this......thanks🇦🇺🇦🇺
Wow! Such a joy to see such a great early live performance by Elton.
Elton has always been the BEST! And will always be!!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴👍🥰
One of my favs from Elton, and sung so brilliantly
Super !!! Merci beaucoup !!! Tres belle chanson aussi !!!
"Sounds like an exit on the motorway!" LOL
Morecambe and Wise had such original characters. Especially about how they insulted every guest star, usually pretending they never heard of him or her.
Brilliant post-Ernie Eric and off course Elton just fabulous
god I'm missing something the best thanks for posting this I remember this
Could really appreciate the piano in this version of the song. A lovely performance
Such a classic. Elton was good & Eric & Ernie perfect.

Lovely, lovely stuff. Thank you.
it's weird everything on RUclips is all eleven years old now. A very young Elton John. Wow.
Excellent. Brilliant.
Oh I love the blue 💙 moves album
So wonderfull
How gorgeous that Steinway sounds
Do not be fooled...SOMETIMES, A Steinway is a Yamaha (or whichever piano the artists prefers), with Steinway lettering.
@@Misano-Red But Elton used only Steinways during 70s. He actually played steinway until 1993.
Brilliant.
How can two men waiting for someone to take off their coat and sit down be so funny??!!?
I don't know it just is I guess it's funny and cute becuase it's Elton lol
You could ask how some other comedy shows are considered funny.. Friends, Bottom, Seinfeld, Absolutely Fabulous etc..
It's really hilarious, the innocence and child like goodness shines through. Eric and Ernie - so funny, they were so hard working, their dedication is so rewarding to enjoy for us today. Eric Morecambe, I love you!
It's like Tommy Cooper walking on stage and having the audience howling with laughter before he has said a word.
lol timing!
Great talent, no wander he is still a great performer.
He N eeds Love and to be loved His Voice is very sad he cry to be accept and respect
watching this today in the year 2021 Aug 31
Beautiful. Song starts around 13:00 ❤
“Its my mother’s favorite, that. If she was out there there’d be tears in her eyes.”
“Why?”
“She can’t stand me.”
Morecambe was an incredible personality
t. rosenberg Ha, Ha. Very good.
legend living !
A very , very young Sir Elton
He's just in from doing his GCSEs
I love the way they crack up over the name ‘Elton’.
He sings with Love
Gold!
He Lost here Love of His live in this time he Was such unhappy Man My goodness my Heart
Ernie Wise was the best straight man ever.
"Ethnomethodology seems to be the hardest word."
Once there was GREAT Comedy, where as it all gone?
Poor Elton John.
I presume that's Watford's colours he's wearing.
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
yes. i have one too
Spoiler: He was actually just a football fan that got lost. "Piano? Yeah I play a bit...", and the rest was history.
I always thought Elton was short?
He's got 6" lifts in his shoes..
the british are so funny
Boom in shot at 4.25!
song starts at 13:00
Louie Neira cz
I loved them there is no one like them today ant and Dec are good but not like them
Elton doesn't look short here
He wasnt/isnt all that short, more like medium height, as was Eric.
Those platform heels...
Never realised! Its E.J. tall or were M&W short arses?
He was wearing 6 inch lifts. I was looking at his feet when he came out (pardon the pun) from behind the piano.
5:39 "So we'll do that then-"
"No."
I was fews months old 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Elton was friendly with Groucho Marx who called him John Elton and himself Marx Groucho
Pardon me, WELL is what I was attempting to spell.
Great lyrics from Bernie.
Hilarious is what this is.
A very young Elton John! A wonderful song! Terrible glasses!
Actually EJ was known for his bizarre eye glasses . The ZOOM pair he wore on top of the pops I can still see in my minds eye 40 + years later .
Madman Across the Water, perhaps Don't Shoot me I'm only the piano player....you can keep the rest
His songs sound 10 times better when it's him and the piano 🎹!
I don't know if this was already commented. But "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" wasn't released until about 1980.
FALSE. It was released on 1976 album Blue Moves.
And then it was released 1st November 1976 as a single.
It was released in 1976!
È impossibile per lui suonare il pianoforte con questi due.
Povero Elton! 😂
con el smoking se parece a Taron Egerton
i have no money for dental plate oven bathroom or prosthesis
Im glad they had the good sense not to ruin Elton's beautiful song with some of their nauty pranks
Gosh could it be that they were consummate professionals who knew their business?
go fund me
