I always remember the spitting image shows where Donald Sinden kept saying how he was a "Sir" and the hotel he was booking into said "Sir"? I have no booking for a sir Donald Sinden, only a Donald Sinden.. so funny. I love the little puppy bit in this clip :)

Barry Cryer and John Junkin were the script writers for their early Thames TV episodes but were later dismissed by Eric and Ernie.Eddie Braben was brought in after 1980. Thames TV let Eric and Ernie down with poor production values and scripts. If they had retired after 1977, then who knows they could have enjoyed a renaissance in their careers like Frankie Howerd enjoyed in the early 90's.

    Script by Eddie Braben? Wonderful!
A marked improvement on the pair’s earlier sketches.

Braben didnt write this, He stayed at the BBC until 1980

Look at the 77 christmas show and then look at this sketch from 10 months later. Eric Morecambe looks about 5 years older.

+dlamiss That is what a serious heart condition does to your health. In 1979 he had a massive heart attack and had to have surgery to save his life. The surgery gave Eric five extra more years of life.

"It is all based on fear" - this was a line he always used in interviews. You could take it as his approach to comedy or to life or to both.

Leonard Rossiter, Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, Arthur Lowe, John LeMesurier, Arnold Ridley, Harry H Corbett, John Laurie, Edward Sinclair, Peter Butterworth, Arthur Brough, Harold Bennett, to name but a few between those years you mentioned who died.

Although Eric and Ernie were without their writer, Eddie Braben, their producer, John Ammonds, or the (then) incredible backing of the BBC, they were still better than anyone else and they still are.
