  • I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order! 😜😂😁
I'd be grateful if you could give the video a 👍and subscribe if you're new to the channel.
In 1971, the pianist and conductor Andre Previn was invited to perform in a sketch which involved an orchestra: the serious-minded maestro playing straight man to Eric and Ernie.
As a composer, Previn worked on films such as Gigi, Porgy And Bess, My Fair Lady and Irma la Douce - and he won best music Oscars for all four.
He later left Hollywood to conduct orchestras and was principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1968 to 1979.
But for many, Previn is probably best-known for trying to help Eric Morecambe as the British star attempted to perform Grieg's Piano Concerto during a sketch.
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, known as Morecambe and Wise, were an iconic English comic double act, working in variety, radio, film and most successfully in TV. Their partnership lasted from 1941 until Morecambe's death in 1984.

The timing of Morecambes "rubbish" at the end.... perfect. He waits, finds the small hole in the laughter and slides it into the gap. Glorious.

@Firsteerr Lastmwwew You nailed it mate! Half a century later and this is still making people laugh! I know I can't watch this sketch without enjoying every moment of it and I have seen it dozens of times. Andre Previn just seemed to fit in so seamlessly with Eric & Ernie that it was pure comedy magic! British comedy, at it's very best.

No smut, no swearing, just perfectly timed superb comedy, still so funny today as it was when it first aired. Thank you Andre Previn. Who could have ever thought that such a straight laced, serious, internationally renowned conductor/composer could have such a brilliant sense of humour. You played the part to perfection, no corpsing, brilliant facial expression, and a complete foil to Eric and Ernies remarkable comedic talents, despite the members of the orchestra creasing up at the antics. Absolutely wonderful. Without a doubt the best performance of any celebrity who appeared on the Morecambe and Wise show. Look at Eric when Andre says he has to go to Chicago to collect his baton. The timing is spot on perfect, and Eric realises straight away that Andre has that comic timing, and that this performance is going to be beyond exceptional, as it was. All three in Heaven now, what wonderful music and happiness they brought us, and now to God and the angels too. Timeless.

Eddie Braben, pure, pure comic genius. Eddie's parents were natural comics, his father told his mother in their house living room "Come away from the window, people'll think it's a pet shop!"
