I'm watching this in 2021, this clip is from 1974. It still shines and brings laughter. Sad to think they have gone, and those dear people I watched it with too. But it still brings joy.

What a great sport Andre was. One of my favourite Morecambe and Wise guests...and he did it twice! Unforgettable. A fine chap. Sorely missed.

Am I glad to be 56 and to have watched the best comedy back in the 60's and 70's, much of which is still better than today's. This is how it should be done. So lovely to see this again :)

Andre Previn was really unique for an American, as he understood British humour, he understood the comedy of Morecambe and Wise and played it just superb with them, including perfect timing of his lines. The best American guest they ever had on their shows. Eric really liked him.

What is really striking from this - and the Grieg sketch - is how a brilliant musician displays equally amazing comic timing and acting ability. No wonder he was invited back. His expressions and reactions to Eric and Ernie's repartee were worthy of an experienced light comedy actor or stand-up comedian. He could have had yet another very successful career on the stage.

A very different sketch to the 71 classic BUT still funny and was nice to see they didnt use the "preview" line here which was probably for the best

"I'll go and get my baton, it's in Chicago" - this was the line Andre Previn delivered in the 1971 Christmas Show of Morecambe and Wise which gave Eric Morecambe the knowledge that Andre not only knew his lines, but knew how to deliver them with great comic timing. Eddie Braben their writer said, after that line was delivered by Andre, Eric started to relax.

The great beauty of Morecambe & Wise was their running gags that went on for years. Mrs Mills and Arthur Tolcher, Mr Preview, Peter Cushing wanting to be paid, Elephant John and Des O'Conner of cause. But the best was -
"Do want a cup of tea, Ern? Tea urn."
Eric's delight at slipping that phrase into a show was obvious and never criticised, as we all loved it as well.

Great to see this - i wish there was more Morecambe and Wise on youtube. But… i think i can detect a subtle difference in this from the earlier shows: the direction, and framing of shots seems a bit different, the film quality/type seems to have changed, or possibly a slight change in the audio recording in the studio? It’s subtle enough to be noticeable and feel odd, but not enough to be glaring. Interesting…
